No LAN/Ethernet on Touchsmart 600

I just put a 7200rpm disk into my 600 and rebuilt the OS using standard Windows 7 distribution.
However my Ethernet connection doesn't work at all, even worse it doesn't show up in device manager at all. It is enabled in the BIOS.
I recall Windows update installing some new drivers.
If I try and install the HP drivers for Nvidia Nforce I get an error:
your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update. Update has been cancelled (9996)
Cheers,
greg

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem, no Lan ethernet, it dissapeared after a windows 7 update and I have never been able to have it back. I tried to reinstall the drivers, checked the bios (lan is enabled) nothing in the control panel and when I connect it to the modem no lights are on... Idon't know how to open the computer to desinstall and reinstall the lan/ethernet, it's a real problem and I've no solution at the moment despite hours on tne net to find an answer.
If you find the solution I'm really interested in it !!!
Thanks

  • WiFi on TouchSmart 600-1350

I have a wireless network in my home and my desktop (HP TouchSmart 600-1350 Desktop PC) was connected to it and now it is not.
I have tried enable the wireless network (not found), I have disabled the ethernet connection (which there is no place to connect an ethernet to my desktop), and I have restarted my router and still nothing.
I have other comptuers and devices on this wifi network and they are all working fine.
    How do I fix this?

    Hello AngelicMarine:
You reinstalled the software and drivers for the 802.ll LAN wireless . It still does not work. Things as you know eventually burn out. This means your wireless card is bad. No they are not easy to replace. Where you able to locate the port for internet cable?  If so then that's  is all you can use untill you call HP Direct Support and have them replace the wireless card and service your computer for any upcomimng hardware failers. I would not trust a thrid party computer repair shop breaking down the computer. To much is envolved just getting to Lan module one mishap could damaged your motherboard or bazel screen.  Yes you are out of warranty the HP Derect Support will give you a set price for the replacing the Lan module it comes with a 1 year waranty. This is the good part if your computer comes back with any kind damages to it.  HP has to and will fix them free of charge.
My HP Touchsmart 600-1050 went in for a motherboard replacement the computer was returned to me damaged it had deep scratches in the bazzel screen and the touch screen was not working in sections so they had to replace it also the back support leg was cracked.  They spent more money on this computer then what it is worth just in parts alone.  Another poster is in the process of getting a new computer because HP Direct Support damaged it beyond repairs. Rember to always ask to speak to supper visors and do as little with phone tech operators . I am not allow to post HP's contacts here in forom moderators hate it. When call HP Direct support dial extension 79 ask to speak with the CTO, He will see to it that your computer is fixed.
These computers are nothing like the old computers were like. It's bad enough just replacing the Optical drive . Have you ever removed the back cover of your computer?  The Lan module is at the bottom and the antenna for it is near the web-cam.  That's a lot of layers to break down lots of tiny screws and parts to  remove and put back not an easy task.

  • VIDEO/LIVE TV Playback stuttery/jumpy after 20min on WMC, Win 7, Touchsmart 600-1070a

A few weeks ago the playback of either recorded or live TV on my Windows Media Centre in Windows 7 on my HP Touchsmart 600-1070a PC started becoming jumpy after about 20 or so minutes of viewing.  I turn WMC off and back on, but it still lags about 20 frames behind the audio playback, which interestingly is still smooth and even.  I initiated a complete system restore back to factory settings which I thought might fix the problem.  Unfortunately the problem is still occuring.  Just this morning though, I received a message on my desktop saying: "Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered.  NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver Ver 186-60 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." Could this be the problem?  I have run HP diagnostics, and there are no errors appearing, although there really should be at least some indication as to why the image begins to lag behind the audio.  Also, my digital TV signal could not finish as it could not receive a channel.  My digital antenna was working fine until a few weeks ago when this stuttering appeared.  Interestingly, watching a movie online also gives me a jumpy, stuttery playback after about 20 minutes.  Can anyone help?  Many thanks, Olga

    Hello Varonte
Are you running Windows 7 32bit or 64bit? Have you tried updating or downgrading your video card drivers? Based on your first post it sounds like a driver issue. Since your video card driver is reporting that it is crashing is one symptom and the delay in video and not audio also indicates it may be video driver related.

    Hello raysananto
Do you have Windows 7 32bit/64bit? I would suggest updating your video card drivers as well. As I stated above the problem sounds like a driver issue.

  • Cant install any driver for Hp NVidia gt230 on Touchsmart 600-1055

Last few years I bought a HP Touchsmart oversea when I travelled to US then I brought it back to Australia. First couple months it was fine then one day I turned on the PC then It is just black screen after the window 7 boot screen then restart after few seconds. It keeps repeating that process unless I go to Safe mode and remove its NVidia driver and replace with window standard driver ( Video Controller VGA compatible) then I can boot up the window normally but cant use any program that require the delicated graphic card. I have tried hard to find its driver from every resources that I can find on the internet including Hp website and NVidia webiste but still again no luck. for 3 years I still cant find the driver for this that can make it working. What happened? is it my graphic card physically fault or because the software isusse? I forgot to mention that I even try to use the DVDs that I orders from HP USA and try to factory recovery but it is still having the same issue. I try to install many different version of window in cluding win 7 32&64 bits, Window 8 pro 64 bits then STILL NO LUCK. So could anyone please tell me what happened and how to fix it cause as I am aware that HP australia not support for HP USA product and I dont want to see my expensive desktop become a brick.
    Thanks

I understand that you are having issues where you cannot use the higher end graphics card installed in your HP TouchSmart 600-1055 Desktop PC. The issue you are describing appears to be a physical issue and I think it would be best if you contacted HP technical support for repair options.
US support link to contact options for HP products purchased in the US.
Outside of US support link to contact options for HP products purchased outside the US.
Now just because you purchased the computer in Australia does not mean your warranty is not good in the US. I am providing you with a link to theHP Global Warranty and FAQs, which states the following:
HP Global Warranty covers HP products at the level of standard warranty offered in the country in which it is used. For example, a product purchased in country "A" and moved to country "B" receives the current warranty coverage provided by country "B" (if that product is marketed or supported in country B)
This means that your computer  receives the same treatment in the US as a computer sold in the US. I would recommend you contact HP Technical Support to have your issue addressed.
I would like to thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • TouchSmart 600-1050 - Graphics Problem with MS Outlook

I have a TouchSmart 600-1050. When I open MS Outlook, and then open the Calendar in a separate window, the window opens as non-maximized and everything is fine. When I maximize the window (I start in Week view), the tasks below each day do not stretch to fit their now wider column. It's as if the graphics don't recalculate for that screen element. Once I am maximized and see the problem, I have to switch to another view (e.g. Month or Day) and back to Week and it will fix itself. Feels like a graphics problem, underpowered chipset or bug in driver (?).
This was not a problem on my HP Desktop I had before, and it is not a problem on my 3 year old Lenovo ThinkPad X60. All are running W7 and using Office 2007.
Any ideas? The graphics driver is up to date according to HP Update and Device Manager.
    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. I tried both of your suggestions and the issue occurred in both. I've never noticed the sub-content not maximizing properly in other apps, but haven't tested thoroughly.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    - Should I checked a different way to see if I have the latest drivers?
    - Is there any way for me to upgrade my 600-1050 with the graphics card in the 600-1055? The 1050's "Mobile PCI Express Module" is open/available. Could I buy the nVidia GeForce GT 230 that comes with the 1055 and hook that up?
Only reason I suggest this is that the graphics seem sluggish to update at times.
    Thanks.

  • HP TouchSmart 600-1070a lockup from overheating?

    I'm repairing a Touchsmart 600-1070a that has suffered a fall from its desk (damaged the on/off switch, but that's fixed), already replaced the HDD which had bad sectors.  There appears to be a lot of  cumulative small hiccups including;
    * sometimes will not even bring up the screen on powerup, remains black despite the fans running, power-LED on.
I suspect this was a gfx module issue or connector issue, as I loosened and forced the GFX module back into its connector and then unlocked and reseated the LVDS graphics lead and it -seems- to have solved the issue for now.
    * when running, will intermittently crash Win7 and at which point the chipset heatsink region is exceptionally hot (about 50'C) and that is with the metal backing plate still attached.
For this, I'm not sure what approach to take.  There's a substantial gapping between the heatsink for this chipset and the metal enclosure which is filled by a thermal-carrier pad.  My suspicion is that the pressure of the rear-stand against the metal backing actually forces the chassis-pad-heatsink to bond, but I'm thinking now that the pad probably is due to be replaced as or another option sorted out as things are just getting too hot
Anyone else encountered a similar problem?
The  GPU and CPU radiators have all been cleaned out with compressed air / brush and are working fine.
(picture showing the exposed mainboard without the metal backing enclosure.  The heatsink in question is the orange one located at the center of the mainboard just near the memory.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I placed a layer of thermal transfer padding that is normally used between transistors/MOSFETs and heatsinks, about 1mm thick, on top of the orange heatsink - seems to have now settled the system down, played a full length DVD and YouTube video concurrently without crashing.
    So now we have  chip|heatsink|transfer-padding|pale-transfer-thick-padding|metal-backing.
A little bit more active cooling would have been nice in the form of a fan somewhere, but so long as it doesn't crash I suppose.   Metal enclosure is about 49'C around the location of the heatsink now.

  • HP Touchsmart 600-1370a Black Screen

Touchsmart 600-1370a  product no. BU140AA Win 7 64 Bit A few weeks ago the PC would give prolonged beeps when turned on, so I would power off and on again and sometimes beep would continue or it would start normally. Whilst watching a short video clip the screen flashed and went back to desktop and a menu box popped saying NVidia graphics recovered from error (exact words not remembered) I then went to the website for my graphics card and downloaded updated driver and installed. This problem continued on and off, and then whilst working in photoshop the program shut down saying not enough memory to perform task (I have 6 gig ram installed). I checked devices under control panel and everything said working (no errors). Yesterday morning I turned on PC and it beeped, I turned off and truned on again and it didnt beep but I get nothing on screen its just black. The power on blue light is showing and the hdd drive light is flashing orange and I can hear the fans working, but get no sound nor anything on screen.
I purchased this pc in Jan 2011 and always kept up with windows updates etc and used the HP tuneups as required. A few months after initial purchase my BDROM drive was replaced under warranty as it stopped working. And now its out of warranty I cannot get my $2,000 computer to run. I have never plugged in any external items except for an ehd for file backups and sd card for photo transfer.
I also scan regularly, antivirus/malware updated

    Hello KDesigns,
Like i said before, your model has a separate video card installed in to a MXM slot.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02542149&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=428...=
If you remove this video card, you can try to use the onboard integrated video, (
Integrated Intel HM57 express graphics)  check your motherboard details:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02017992&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=428...
If you do remove it by yourself, then you can see if the problem is resolved, and you can decide if you a buy a new card or you use the onboard.

  • Upgrading the HP TouchSmart 600-1120 Desktop PC

soooo im really unsatisfied with this comp (but it was a present so i cant return it and spurn the family member that got it for me) and would like to upgrade it to a better gaming machine
    am i correct that the
    Intel® Core™ i7-840QM Processor
    (8M Cache, 1.86 GHz)
is the best CPU i can use without some form of extra cooling?
im currently also looking at the
    Intel Core i7 Mobile 820QM 1.73GHz 8M PGA988 CPU - SLBLX
since ive found it for as low as $300 compared to $600 for the 840QM (any suggestions on where i might find a better price?)
also according to hps support site the motherboard contains an expansion slot for
One Mobile PCI Express Module (MXM) socket
    MXM version: 3.0, type A
    <35W
Used for MXM graphics card included with selected models
is it correct to assume that this slot is currently empty and compatible with a  nVIDIA GT 240M N10P-GS-A2 1GB MXM A VGA Card ?
also ive been told that this card alone would need a fairly expensive semi-custom cooling system. unless the 600-1120 has one installed for an existing graphics card ( which it doesnt correct? )
im also under the impression that the GPU is actually intergrated into the motherboard?  does this make installing this new graphics card a waste?
and finally i plan to throw in
    G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Laptop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-8GBSQ
this is because im unsure of what exactly is in the memory slot right now (its the factory 4GB stick) if anyone has the information on this so i could by just one stick of the same brand instead of buying 2 new stick that'd be awesome :-).but its not a big deal as the difference is only about $30
    thank you for your assistance

Check with HP sales on the MMX video card and see what is offered.

  • Heating problem with HP TouchSmart 600-1050sc

    Hi There..
Got this recurring problem on my HP TouchSmart 600-1050sc. (No changes made to org. config)
Every time i open more then 2 browser windows, or set up more than one game client, the cooling fan goes into a frenzy. ;o(
On my old stationary computer, I would rip the computer apart, and clean all cooling modules with cuetips and a small wacuumcleaner to bring down overheating, but on this mashine it's not the obvious task. (Well seems like it would be a humongous job)
Anyone have experienced same problems, and have a clever solution ?
    Kind regards,  Agger

Below is a is an HP Support document that will demonstrate how to find your computer's product number. I

  • DVD burner no longer working on Touchsmart 600

I hope this is the correct forum. I have a Touchsmart 600 series and my DVD burner no longer reads DVDs or CDs, either digital, music or video. When I attempt to burn a DVD through Windows Media Player, WMP goes through all the motions of burning it but the CD is still blank. It had been working intermittently up through September and stopped working in November. The DVD burner didn't always work since I got the machine 2 years ago. Sometimes it would stop reading the disk but would work after a reboot. Now it won't even do that.
I have updated the drivers for it and it didn't seem to have an effect.

  • Windows 8 Installation Issue on HP Touchsmart 600

I have been having this issue all day long and cannot figure out a fix! I turned to this website because I didn't think that it would be feasable for somone on Microsoft's side to help me, but I have Windows 7 currently installed and am just trying to do an upgrade. It is  my work computer, so there is no way that I can do a full restore , so that is out of the equation. When installing Windows 8, it completes the installation as normal, but when it goes to do what I assume is the first boot up, it takes me to this screen and it says, oops, something went wrong during the installation. Windows 7 is being restored on your computer... And it is back to boring ole' Windows 7 for me. Can anybody provide me with some sort of solution or easy fix. I'm sort of computer savvy, so I might understand some things, but if the solution is really difficult, you might have to get basic with me. LOL
Thanks in advance for the help guys, I would truly appreciate it.
