No longer able to import CD's into iTunes

Hi,
I have a customer whom with I set up a music server running iTunes.
This has worked fine for the past two years, no problems at all - he has nearly 25GB of songs on there and about 20 playlists.
The problem has now arisen where he is unable to import any more CD's
When he puts a CD in it appears correctly in Windows Explorer and you can see the tracks on it.
You do not get prompted to import the CD.
It no longer appears on the left hand menu as a CD from which you can choose tracks to import.
Interstingly when you click File - IMPORT you can select and import individual tracks but not multiple.
I have tried a new CD drive and it has the same problem. I have also updated to the latest version of iTunes and he still as the same problem
Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

This just started for me too. Isn't there a fix from apple on this? This is in apple's software, not the computer. I can import cd's through the burner but it says disc burner or software not found when trying to burn one.I tried several things but one of the solutions listed is to uncheck the cd text button but my cd text button cannot be changed(faded but not gone)I've tried to repair it,uninstall and reinstall, update drivers, new gear driver software, slowing burning speeds to 8x or less but this seems to be a software issue. Help!!!

  • Not able to import protected CD into iTunes on MacBook Pro

    Hello,
Tried to import a protected CD and it failed. See Screen shots. Was able to import into Windows Media Player on a WinXP system but it added a licence folder to the location where the Music files are stored.
Have not tried to import using iTunes for windows.
    Anyone can help?

The more details you can provide the esier it will be for us to help you.
Is this the CD by Goyte?  I see no reference of any kind online to it being protected and usually it be be one of the first things people would mention. Not many CDs have protection since this resulted in a very bad name when Sony tried it a while back. This is the original, store (or online) purchased plain audio CD?  If it is of some other type such as something with original WMA files then those could quite well be from protected downloads which cannot be legally converted.  Nor can they be played on a Mac (I don't think Flip4Mac plays protected WMA).

  • Not able to import .motn files into FCP

For some reason I'm not able to import .motn files into FCP. While in FCP, I use "send to motion" and uncheck the embed box. After motion opens and I add my motion content, I get the following error when trying to import the .motn file back into FCP "File Error: 1 files(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown". What is strange is that I'm able to create another test FCP project with different media, and everything works fine. All tests and media are done on the same drive.
I'm using the latest updates of everything FCP 5.0.4 and motion 2.0.1
    Any ideas anybody?
    Thanks!

  • When trying to import a cd into iTunes

When I import a CD into iTunes,
after a few songs, the download freezes and my computer no longer recognises my drive d.
The D drive (DVD/CD rom) seems to have disappeared.
Since the computer does not know that I have a D drive, the DVD/CD rom will not work.

Ok, obviously no one has a definite answer for this, but I found several different suggestions on the net. I tried all of them, and none of them have worked for me. So I still cannot import CDs with iTunes. Instead, I am now importing CD's with Windows Media Player, which works just fine, then adding all of them seperately to iTunes so I can have the music on my iPod. it takes less time to transfer this way, than to force quit multiple ties over several hours to maybe get one CD imported.
In case the suggestions of others work for you, I did a google search on "iTunes freezes when importing CDs"- it brought up a lot of pages, with a lot more complaints than answers , but the easiest "fix" was to turn off error correction in your prefences. Since I never had error correction turned on, that didn't help me. The other most cited "fix" was the following link on Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421 . Though I never get an error message (iTunes just freezes), I tried it anyway. Still no success.
    I hope this helps some!

I have just bought an Ipod and am having trouble importing my Cds into Itunes !!!

Does anyone know how I can import the complete tracks and how I turn this Itunes intro setting off ?
    Thanks Owen0069

    hi Owen!
let's try checking up on some of the simpler possibilities:
You can't import or play music from an audio CD in iTunes for Windows
these resources might be helpful with that:
Updating the drivers on your Windows PC
toonz: Where to find firmware for your CD/DVD drive
... but if no joy, post back with your itunes "help > run CD diagnostics". one of the clever folk might be able to spot something in those.

  • I am having problems importing some CDs into iTunes on a laptop with Windows 8. Most CDs import without problem. The ones I can't import can be imported into iTunes with Windows 7. Does anybody know why this problem is occurring?

I am having problems importing some CDs into iTunes on a laptop with Windows 8. Most CDs import without problem. The ones I can't import can be imported into iTunes with Windows 7. Does anybody know why this problem is occurring?

First-off, this seems to be a general problem with 10.4 (across all the operating systems of which I am aware).  Unfortunately, I cannot provide a permanent solution but, if you need a quick fix, this will (hopefully) work for you.
For some inexplicable reason, iTunes no longer recognises standard Windows paths.  For example:
    Y:\Music\Buddy Holly\Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3
The end result is that it will import a playlist with no content.
It will, however, recognise the equivalent Apple paths which look like this:
    file://localhost/Y:/Buddy Holly/Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3
It is possible to convert your existing playlists using a few basic replace commands in something like Notepad.  In my case, I made some code changes in my music manager and now generate two sets of playslists (one standard and one to accommodate iTunes).
Forgive me foir stating the obvious but please remember to make sure that the disk / path containing your music is accessible when doing the import otherwise you will probably get a blank result.  Note that you can do a bulk import by selecting all the (revised) playlists and dragging them onto the iTunes sidebar.
I am sorry that this is not a "clean" solution but it will work if you are in a bind.  The only alternative of which I am aware is to wait for Apple to fix the problem.

  • Can I import CD's into iTunes from an external Firewire CD/DVD player?

The CD/DVD player on my iMac G4 broke and just wondering if I can hook up a cheap external Firewire CD/DVD drive (with RW capability) to my iMac and still be able to view DVD's and import CD's into iTunes?
Thanks for any answer to this question.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Yes - connect the ext device - open iTunes - load a CD - it shouold appear in the left most column of iTunes under Devices - rip away.
To use that same ext device to burn then go to iTunes prefs>Advanced>Burning and select it from the drop down menu.

  • Automatically import a CD into iTunes

Hi, How can I automatically import a CD into iTunes with all versions: AAC, AIFF, Apple Lossless, MP3 and WAV without needing to import them one format at a time? Thank you, Gabor Fulop

Thanks for the additional info.  When you say that "The format that these machine need is either MP3, WAV or AIFF" do you mean that they can work with any these formats, or that each has a different requirement - one needs MP3, one WAV, one AIFF, etc?  In the first case I'd just choose the best compromise between quality and portability (which would probably be 320kbps MP3) and use that.
In the other case, the best you're going to be able to do in iTunes would seem to be:
Import the CD to iTunes using WAV (this gives you a "master" lossless copy)
Change the import settings in iTunes to AIFF
Select the imported songs, right-click and select Create AIFF version
Change the import settings again in iTunes to MP3
Select the imported songs again, right-click and select Create MP3 version
This is still pretty clumsy as you'll end up with three copies (one WAV, one AIFF, one MP3) in your iTunes library - which doesn't, without using right-click > Get Info, allow you to see which copy is in which format.
I suspect that your needs are probably better addressed using other tools - based on what I'm familiar with (and I'm not claiming these to be the best available), I would:
use EAC to extract audio data to WAVs - this gives you the WAV version for your backing music
use Foobar2000 to associate metadata (artist, title, album, etc.) with the extracted data
use Foobar2000's conversion capabilities (it has plugins or extensions for just about every audio encoding out there, both lossless and lossy) to create AIFF and MP3 versions  - this gives you the AIFF and MP3 versions for your backing music
import the MP3 versions alone into iTunes (assuming that you want to use iTunes as a media player and to sync content to iDevices) - I've said MP3 here rather than AAC since unless you're using high-end equipment (which, as a musician, I appreciate you might be!) the nominal quality benefits of AAC over MP3 are marginal at best

  • I am importing a cd into itunes and it is creating 4 different albums. How can I get it all in one album?

I am importing a CD into itunes and it is creating 5 different albums.
1 album for most of the songs and 4 other albums for single songs from
the CD. How can I get itunes software to put all the songs into 1 album?

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • Error message when trying to import a CD into iTunes

I get an error message when I try to import a CD into iTunes that says the disk cannot be found. I recently requested to uninstall Tune-up because I kept receiving annoying messages to purchase the software. It looks like Tune-up is deactivated, but now I can't import music. Any suggestions?

Without much to go on I think your drive is having problems.  It may be something minor such as dust which could possibly be removed using a drive cleaning disc (computer supply store or CD store), or it could be an irregular error in a laser, or tracking, or loose cable, or...
One way to eliminate any iTunes possibility is if it is consistently doing this with a particular CD then try an alternative ripping tool such as XLD or Max.

  • I can no longer drag music from my computer into iTunes.

I updated iTunes to the most recent download and installed the newest update on my iPhone 4. Now I can no longer drag music from my PC into iTunes. Not even into a new playlist. None of my settings changed. Please help.

    Try
    - Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, that may not work and you will have to wait for an iPod or iTunes update.

Why does 'User not registered for online use' show up when I try to import a cd into itunes? None of the cd info shows up either.

Well, the format I upload from the camera is "video clip" or "video for Windows"...sometimes I've converted them to avi format, too. But as I said, it never even lets me get that far...I never get to even select a clip. As soon as I tell the program to "import/clip" it freezes up before I can even go to the folder that the clips are in. It has only begun to do this recently, and I'd never had any problems like this before. Last night I tried it again, and I clicked "open composition", and it froze when I did that too.
I'm not sure how much more specific I can be about the details of the clips, since I'm positive it has nothing to do with the clips themselves...I'm running Windows XP, though...Home Edition Service Pack 2, Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz, with 504 MB of RAM. I have had the automatic updates turned on since I did my last reformat a couple of weeks ago. Could it have something to do with some kind of an update it may have done?

    Trevor,
When you say your superdrive rips, the import speeds are typically around 20x, what encoding method and bit rate are you using ?
I imported another CD and watched for what import speed numbers were displayed. Routinely, they hovered around 8x and sometimes up to 12 or 13x, but never higher. I was told by someone at our local user's group meeting that ripping at AAC 192kbps was a double-pass, I think that was the words they used, and therefore slower. ( Many members thought 7 minutes to rip was typical ) I'm not so sure if that means the drive will only spin at half it's rated max speed ? Anyway, I walked over to my son's PC with the CD and ripped it at AAC 192kbps to his iTunes library. The numbers I saw were from 18x to frequently 23, 24 and sometimes briefly to about 26x. His drive has a max of 40x. By my reasoning, anything that would cause iTunes to rip this CD at a slower speed, whether due to the encoding rate or the CD's surface condition, should affect both computers equally, yes ? Yet the drive on the PC performed on average at twice the rate of the iMac. I think it's safe to say the rip speed is comfortably within the operating margins of both drives.
I'm not yet fully convinced this is normal for an iMac. My CD are in excellent shape. I'm the only one who uses them and I handle them with about as much care as the old audiofiles used to when they handled their vinyl LPs ( well, at least not as far as wearing cotton gloves and sweeping the dust off ). Most of them have absolutely no visible scratches or oily finger prints on their surfaces. I might experiment and see what rates I get if I use MP3 or a lower bit rate for AAC.

I have plenty of space on my hard drive (500GB), but when I plug in my iPhone there is a window stating the pone cannot be backed up because of lack of disk space. The same occurs with attempting to import CD's into iTunes. The hard disk was replaced recently in order to gain extra memory. Is there some sort of limit set up from the original hard drive causing this problem?

Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
If Disk First aid is unable to complete the repair you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer.
