No longer able to use non-apple lightning to 30 pin adapter cable with IOS 8

Do any of you use an Apple iDevice with a digital transport docking station to get your music from your device to your speakers using an external DAC?
I have an Onkyo ND-S1 which was great when using my iPhone 4S plugged into the dock sending digital audio through to my active speakers with built in DAC….
But since upgrading to an iPhone 6, running IOS 8.1.1 which has a lightning port, I purchased an aftermarket ‘lightning to 30-pin female adapter cable’ to continue using the dock with my new iPhone.
It doesn’t work. The adapter is not approved by Apple and somehow they have managed to bork all non-apple cables, ie it won’t charge, it won’t send digital audio. It’s essentially useless. Now, this is a cable that was manufactured & marketed specifically to allow iDevices with a lightning port to connect to digital transport docks, and I believe that it used to work with IOS 7.x, but it appears that with the rollout of IOS 8.x, Apple has done something that renders all non-apple cables redundant.
Apple sell their own £30 adapter cable, but that has its own DAC built in to the unit – now stupid question time: If I used one of these cables, would it (a) Do nothing, just like the non-apple cable, (b) Convert the audio to analogue, then send the converted audio to the speakers (by analogue cable only), resulting in a lower quality reproduction?  Or (c) Would it bypass the DAC in the cable and send the digital signal to the speakers?
Does anybody have any experience of this?

If the 3rd party adapter doesn't work it is because it is a counterfeit device The manufacturer has failed to licence the lightning technology from Apple ergo it does not work
Of course the Applr product will work ,infact most of the copies in very very small prin tsay in advert it does not support sound intended for charging only

The fix is to log into your current account. Go to appleid.apple.com and change the primary email and apple id back to the old email address (doesn't matter if you have it any longer). Once the change is made, then enter your password for that account on the device. Once you get in, go ahead and go back to appleid.apple.com and change it back. That fixed mine.
need to edit this to clarify a bit

  • Apple Lightning to 30-Pin Adapter and 1st generation connector

Will an Apple Lightning to 30-Pin Adapter allow an iPhone 5 to charge from a 1st generation connector? When I plug my old iPhone 3s directly into my 2006 Lexus LS430 connector, the iPod function will work but not charge. This is apparently because 1st gen connectors didn't have a USB charge capability. I'm hoping the adapter will correct that.

As I suggested above ,the first iPod had a firewire connection ,as did the next ( I have one)
I also had the first Bose sounddock which was designed for the first iPod and required the afore mentioned adapter to work with my iPhone 3G
As I said to charge the iPhone 3G you need the  adapter to change the 30 pin wiring from having firewire to just USB as everything is today
    Look at
as an example ,this is the type of adapter you require to change the car live connection to support the iPhone 3G
If you then also want to use an iPhone 5 you will IN ADDITION require the lightning to 30 pin adapter

  • APPLE LIGHTNING TO 30-PIN ADAPTER MD824ZM/A

I have just bought a new iPod Touch 5th Gen.
Will the "APPLE LIGHTNING TO 30-PIN ADAPTER MD824ZM/A" let me connect the iPod to my surround sound, which has a 30 pin dock, and allow the music to play through the system?
Have been doing some searching and have seen varying answers.  The APPLE LIGHTNING TO 30-PIN ADAPTER MD824ZM/A cable is not cheap so I don't want to be paying out for something that will not do the job.
    Thanks

Thanks - hadn't considered the surround controls controlling the iPod so handy to know

will the lightning to 30 pin adapter work with the irig midi interface?  Want to record guitar with garage band on ipad mini. need quick/easy way to connect USB to ipad mini

From both? Interesting. I like that though. I am looking for the controls to be on the iPhone rather than the stereo as it ***** finding songs this way. And yeah, $39.00 is a lot for this, and it is only roughly 8" long. Oh well, I will need it, so I will have to buy it. Thanks for the message back!

  • Will the lightning to 30 pin adapter work with ihome

I was wondering if, while using an iPoud Touch 5th Gen, a lightnight to 30pin adapter, and an iHome, would it charge and be able to play music? I saw something saying you won't but i wasn't sure if that was credible. Is there a way to make the iHome work with it if not?

The overview for the adopter says:
This adapter lets you connect devices with a Lightning connector to many of your 30-pin accessories.* Support for analog audio output, USB audio, as well as syncing and charging. Video output not supported.
Thus it supports audio, charging and some other functions but not video

  • Will the lightning to 30-pin adapter work with my 2008 Volkswagen Jetta?

I have a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta that came with an iPod Adapter in the center console. Has anyone recently tried using the lightning to 30-pin adapter with one if they have one? Even if it isn't a VW Jetta? Maybe something older or 2009? I want this and I am getting the iPhone 5 soon, but I don't exactly want to spend the $39.00 to see if this would work. Anyone have any experience or at least know if it would work?
If it does, where are the controls used from; the iPhone or the stereo system in the car still?
    Thank you in advance.
    Kyle

  • Will the lightning to 30-pin adapter work with 2009 VW Jetta built-in iPod dock?

I have a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta that has an iPod dock in the center console and I'm trying to listen to music from an iPhone 5S.
Theoretically the Apple adapter should work with the VW iPod dock and my iPhone 5s. Can anybody confirm it? Also, will the adapter be able to charge my phone while connected?
The ultimate goal is to get music from my phone play through the car's sound system. So another related questoin: is there a way to connect a bluetooth/wireless adapter to the iPod dock and stream music via iPhone 5S's bluetooth feature without modifying the car?
What do you guys do and what are my options? Thank you in advance!

No idea about a VW but my 07 BMW Z4 with BMW fitted iPod connector works fine with the Genuine Apple adapter using an iPod 7 with lightning socket play and charge

  • Iphone 5S lightning to 30 pin adapter - too short to keep on the case while using it! :(

I just realized the adapter I need to connect the media station on my car (Audi A8) can only be used by taking the phone off from the case (Iphone 5S case blue color) : why the pin cannot be done a little longer, so to avoid taking the case off every time I need to recharge or to listen to my music ?
    This make no sense...
The cable supplied by Apple is not suiting at its best when the cable from Belkin is pefectly working, I don't need to take the phone off from the case if I need to recharge!

Because that is the way Apple designed it

  • Lightning to 30 pin adapter

I currently have a 5th generation 30GB ipod that I use in my car with a cables to go 3.5mm to dock connector audio cable.
I want to upgrade to a 32GB ipod touch and I was wondering if I use the Apple lightning to 30 pin adapter and connect it to my cables to go cable in my car will the touch give me a line out signal the way my current ipod and cable does so that I can listen through my cars audio system?
    Hope this makes sense.
    Thanks
    Frank

I ended up cancelling my order for an iPod touch 4 and instead ordered an iPod touch 5 32GB.
I received my iPod touch 5 yesterday and tried using the Lightning to 30 pin adapter in my car with the Cables to Go 30 pin connector to 3.5mm cable connected to the AUX port in my car and heard nothing through my cars stereo system.
Fortunately when I ordered the iPod I also ordered another 30 pin connector to 3.5mm cable by Comprehensive and when I hooked up that cable in my car it seemed to work perfectly. Not sure what the difference in the cables could be, but I think I will pick up an extra one.

  • My Lightning to 30 pin adapter (Apple A1468) replacement

My Apple lightning to 30 pin adapter (Apple A1468) stopped charging my iPad after 4 months. If I take it into an Apple store, will they replace it? It is a genuine Apple product which I purchased from Amazon. I no longer have the box it came in and I can't seem to find any information on if it has a warranty.

All that stuff is on mine as well. The reason I had a suspicion is because the item link on Amazon from where I ordered it no longer exists... but I do remember it being advertised as a genuine Apple product when I ordered it (and it was fulfilled by Amazon) especially since I did my research and made sure not to get a generic since I read some pretty awful reviews on the generic adapters.

  • Case for iphone 6 plus with lightning to 30 pin adapter?

I recently upgraded to a iPhone 6 plus from an iPhone 5.  I have been using the square lightning to 30 pin adapter to adapt the 30 pin plugs on both my bedside clock radio/dock for overnight charging and in the glovebox connector in my 2013 VW Jetta.  I had no issues connecting the plug with an Otterbox Defender on my iPhone 5.  However, there are very few cases on the market right now for the iPhone 6 plus, and the Otterbox was not readily available when I purchased the phone 2 weeks ago, and I'm also not so sure I want to fork over the $60 since Apple isn't recommending the Otterboxes anyways.  I'm not sure I buy into the Lifeproof concept, although I know some people love them.  The Tech21 cases also have to be ordered, and don't have integrated screen protection like the Otterbox Defender.  Admittedly, as careful as I try to be with my phone, I am a dropper and need a protective case.  I ordered a cheaper Caseology case, but it does not allow the lightning to 30 pin adapter plug to attach, so I cannot charge my phone on my bedside dock or in my car with the adapter.  I looked at the Spigen cases online as well as several others, but none of them seem, from visual inspection of the online photos, to have the large opening that the Otterbox for my iPhone 5 did that allowed the adapter to be connected.
Yes, I could buy extra lightning cables and reinvent my whole charging system, but I have found the cables to be not nearly as durable as the adapters (I've gone through many cables in the last two plus years, but still have the same two adapters.)  I would rather find a case that accommodates the adapter.  Any suggestions for cases that will allow the adapter to be attached with the case still on?

Have a look at cableJive they make the dockStubz which might do what you are looking for
