No S-Video to TV output on PowerBook?

I know this is a MacBook Pro forum, but I didn't get a reply over at the PowerBook forum. Hopefully there's someone with PowerBook knowledge in this forum.
Yesterday I tried to hook up my sister's old 15" 1GHZ Ti Powerbook to her TV. The TV was black. No audio or video. I used an s-video/3.5mm stereo plug to scart cable. As per Apple's instructions, I rebooted the Mac and turned the TV off. I also played with different resolutions, including 640x480. During a reboot, the TV doesn't show any signs of getting a signal (no flicker etc).
Her TV is PAL but I didn't find anywhere in the Display settings where I could change the Mac's output to PAL or NTSC. Her TiBook is running 10.5.4.
Does anyone know what I could do to solve this. Also, could someone who has successfully connected their Powerbook to a TV through the S-Video output, tell me the proper procedure to do so. I just feel as if I should enable the S-Video output somehow but can't find any settings for it.

Daft suggestion, on my old PBG4, I spent a fair while in a similar position, the scart adapter had a slider on the top - this specified the convert direction - needless to say I had the slider the wrong way.
If that is not applicable, then make sure you have selected AV, and cycle though AV, incase there is more than one AV channel on your TV, as I am in the UK, my TV is also PAL, so that shouldn't make a difference.
If the mac finds the extra display, then screen goes blue, while it sorts itself out, if this doesn't happen, the mac is not 'finding' the TV.
Hope it helps

  • Wrong 'mini dvi to video' adapter for my 12" Powerbook 1.33

I recently bought the M9319 mini dvi - video adapter for my 12" Powerbook 1.33 to find that the mini dvi on the adapter is a different size to the one on the computer and the adapters supplied with the computer.
I've been doing a bit of research into this and it seems a bit of a grey area. Apple have not made it clear in advertising this product that it is only suitable for the newest 12" Powerbooks and even state that it will work with a 1.33 machine in their following article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86507
Has anyone had a similar experience, or suggest an alternative product that will work? Did Apple make an older version that works with the 1.33?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Graeme.

Just took the adapter to my local Apple store and they identified it as a mini VGA to video adapter - not what it said on the packaging!
I've noticed a few posts with this problem, so just double check before you leave the store that the packaging matches the product.

  • Discoloring of mp4 videos in html5 output

I am using Adobe Captivate to be able to publish to html5. As swf is incompatible with html5, I have to use mp4 videos. However, the videos are somehow discolored in output. Can anyone tell me why this happens, an what I may do to fix it?
The image on the left shows the video in html5 output. The one on the right is taken from the editor.
There is no difference using event or multiple slide mode for the videos.

What do you have set as your slide quality settings?  Perhaps you need to increase it.

  • S-video or composite input into powerbook

    Hello everybody,
I was wondering if there was a way to get a game console, such as a playstation or gamecube, to hook up to my powerbook; the television in my house is often busy and this is the only other monitor available. Thanks for your help!

You can find a solution with a device from elgato. This is a non-free option though. Now, if your console had FireWire output—that'd be a different story.

  • Late 2007 MacBook Pro S-Video adapter no output.

I've troubleshooted everything I can, so hopefully one of you can help me!
My Fiancé's mom has a late 2007 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion. She has an older tv, so I was wanting to mirror the display so she can watch Netflix on her TV.
After digging around on the Internet, other users said the APPLE M9267G/A adapter solved this problem without the need for a converter box, or upscaler. Needless to say, it doesn't work..
I've tested the cable, port on the computer, and they both work. I've tried running just the yellow Composite video out instead of the S video through the video in on the TV, and a VCR... Nothing.
I used my old Powerbook 1.67, which has an S Video out to the TV, and it works perfect. When I plug the adapter into the Powerbook's Dual Link DVI port, same port as the MacBook Pro, it doesn't work..
I chose S-Video, even though the TV has Component inputs, because other forums said it wouldn't work without an expensive converter box.
They said this would be the solution.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Same problem, though with an early-2008 MBP. Things worked fine with 10.6.x and as soon as I went to 10.9 the external display stopped working.
The first time I plug in the adaptor (whether or not there is a video cable attached) the screen goes black and nothing shows up on the external screen. When I unplug the adaptor, I get the display back on the MBP but it's at low resolution and it has put me at the general login screen. When I put the adaptor back in the second time, it essentially locks up the display to where it is black and no key presses or adaptor removals brings the display back. I have to reset the MBP by holding down the power button. I submitted a bug report too, but have no faith Apple will do anything. Big fail, Apple.

  • MacPro, BlackMagic Intensity Pro video card and output to HDTV

    Hello folks,
I purchased an Intensity Pro card a little while back, but haven't actually gotten to use it. I captured most of my video material through firewire. I have a MacPro and I'd like to view photos from iPhoto, renders of my 3D work and possibly stream Netflix to my HDTV. Both of my DVI outputs from my ATI Radeon card feed my two desktop cinema Displays, leaving the DVI output from the Intensity Pro card open. Before I go an buy a DVI to HDMI adapter from Apple I want to know if the Intensity Pro DVI port only works if I'm in editing mode with Final Cut or Adobe Premiere or will it output anything at anytime as it it was just another graphics card?
Thanks so much for any help,
    Brian

    hi,
ihave bought it and am using it with my quadcore g5 2.5 ..
for now i switched back to canopus because its much more stable and not
"touchy" when i jump around in the timeline...
but this may have a lot of other reasons ..
with finalcut its very nice ans stable, i think the drivers have been written
to be compatible with fcp rather than logic.
I wantd to have the picture for an HD Movie in Llogic but now i prfe to have
    stability,
    bets regards,

  • External Video: Is dual output possible?

    Hi,
Does anyone know if there's a way to get Final Cut to send external video to more than one source at a time? Like, for example, through the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview & a Blackmagic card at once.
Sorry for the odd question, it's a suite setup my boss is working on. I'd be very grateful for a yay or a nay.

You can't do DCP and output to a capture card at the same time. You have to choose one or the other. BUT, the capture card can send the signal to more than one device...so SDI to one, Composite to another, HDMI to another...

  • Participant Video & Presentation Content Output to same Display Window

When a dual screen SX20 joins a call and shares presentation, the content and participant video appears in the same window as a single participant, instead of having presentation appearing in the other screen. (Refer to attached picture)
When the sharing is done by other participants in the same call, it appears fine for everyone, (including the SX20) with participants on the left screen and presentation on the right screen. This also appear fine for the SX20 in question.
Is there any configuration or mis-wiring that could possibly cause this?
    Thanks!

    Hello Dereth -
Can you tell us how the endpoint in question is configured?  Also, what is the endpoint, the one in the image isn't an SX20?
Check the following, it could be that the monitors are configured incorrect.
Configuration Video MonitorsThis should be set to Dual.
Configuration Video Output HDMI [1,2] MonitorRoleThis should be set to First and Second receptively for monitor 1 and 2.
Also, how is the call being established (H323/SIP, point-to-point or MCU), and does it do this with any call connected to this particular endpoint?  It could be that it can't open up a dedicated content channel, the result being that it will show content within the main video channel.

  • Audio monitoring follows video to Firewire Output

I'm a new FCS/Soundtrack Pro user but have been using ProTools LE and HD for some time.
When I select Video Out Firewire to view my video on an external monitor my audio monitoring follows and feeds the firewire device instead of my internal Mac outputs or my DIGI-002R.
I only want to view the vision on the monitor and keep my audio outputs playing through the DIGI002R. Is there any way of achieving this or am I missing something in the setup?

  • Cannot find my Satellite L350-10H - external video full HD output

    Hello Everybody.
I have a problem with my satellite L350-10H when I try to attach a second external monitor in full HD.
In fact Im only able to duplicate my Notebook Display with the same resolution (1440 x 900).
The System don't allow me to set a Full HD Resolution for my Samsung External Monitor.
I don't think can be a limitation of the Chipset because I can do that with all my oldest notebook I have at Home.
Now the strange thing is that when I try to search for a driver in the Toshiba website, my model just don't exist !!!
I put the serial number and the website don't recognize the model, then in the list this model don't exist.
It is: *TOSHIBA SATELLITE L350-10H* - OS WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM
Someone have also this model? How I can attach a full hd monitor?

    Hi
First of all, if you would take a look on the Toshiab European driver page, then you will notice that the driver search form does not contain any sub model numbers but series numbers this means you have to check the model number and then could find the right drivers.
As far as I know the notebook Sat L350-10H belongs to PSLD0E series.
You can find the drivers for this notebook if you would choose L350 PSLD0E.
    Easy. Isnt it?
    Now back to your video output;
As far as I know there is a Mobile Intel GL960 Express Chipset.
Ive got the same chipset and I can use the external monitor perfectly.
But I have installed the Intel graphic card driver in fact the preinstalled driver on my notebook didnt contain some resolutions
Therefore I recommend checking the Intel page and to download and install the driver for Mobile Intel GL960 chipset.
After new reboot you should check if you could choose the resolution.

  • Could not read boot block (input/output errror) powerbook g4

    Hello
My friend gave me a powerbook g4 and a copy of osx lion, I would like to install it but the internal hardive is not available within the "select Destination" area of the  installation process. I tried to repair the disk which is labelled Disk0s1, but shortly after it is underway i recieve this message.
**/dev/disk0s1 could not read boot block (input/output error) Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit. 1 non HFS volume checked, 1 volume could not be repaired because of an error.
Within disk utilities the Disk01s is grey, I can try to repair it but the above error occurs. Do you know what the problem is and how I can fix it?

Since you are going to install system fresh, it sounds like, you should erase the drive.  Boot from the installer disc, then select the language but do not start the installer.  From the menu bar, you should have either an Applications or an Installer menu. From one of the menus, you can then start Disk Utility.
From the drives and volumes pane, select the internal drive hardware listing.
This will now allow you to partition or erase the disc.  Now click the Erase tab and select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format and then click the "Erase" button.  You can name the volume that will actually be created, like for instance "MacintoshHD" or whatever you want.)
Once the erase has completed, you need to check the information for the hard drive at the bottom of the window.  Be sure that the partition scheme is Apple Partition Map.  If for some reason it is something else, like GUID, you won't be able to install MacOS on it.  You will need to click the Partition tab, click the "Options..." button and select Apple Partition Map, then click the "Partition" button.
Once this is done, then you can quit Disk Utility and you should be able to install Tiger on that HD.

  • Editing a video created with iMovie on powerbook...

I edited and made a bunch of videos on my G4 Powerbook using iMovie. I forget what version was on it, but I was still running 10.2 on my powerbook. For some reason, on my new MBP, I cannot open the video to edit it in iMovie (iLife 08). I can import the whole video (.mov format) and edit it that way, but there are a few that I never exported to quicktime (and donot have a .mov format) that I want to go in and change some titles and add clips. Is there a way to do this?

Do you have the original iMovie projects and media, rather than post edit material?
iMovie edits natively DV Stream codec media. .mov is just a container for video, audio, etc.
Also you may wish to look at iMovie HD (from iLife'06) which is available for download from here "http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html" for iLife '08 purchasers.

  • Why does my Premiere preview video not match output video? Colors, sharpening, saturation, etc.

The right side is Premiere. The left side is Windows Media Player. My export settings are attached.
WTF? The actual output is way more grainy, oversharpened, higher contrast, and oversaturated. The same thing happens when played with VLC and YouTube.

The problem is you're not using a properly calibrated external TV to judge the quality of the video.  You really need that stable reference.  Computer monitors and software players just won't do.
Computer monitors are more than up to the task of judging end results of encodes and exports.  The encode the O.P  is producing,  is for the purpose of display  on a computer monitor.  What value is using a "TV" for this purpose? Definitely do not use a CRT TV for any QC purpose.  CRT tubes even on the best of reference monitors had a useable reliable life for QC purposes of about 2 years.  They have not been produced for a lot longer than that now.
You may have a point about the various software players.
    @the O.P
Do you check your export by using the OUTPUT TAB in the Media Encoder?
Your settings appear to be perfect for the purpose (as long as you have Un Checked the 'Use Previews' setting)
If this is checked it uses the NLE preview files to encode your export.
What was your second screen grab taken from?

  • Video to external output - Satellite Pro L20

My L20 has recently stopped outputting video (DVD programmes) to an external projector. Frames, etc are fine, but no programme within it - just a blank space. Other screen output is not affected. Everything used to work fine.
I am not aware of having changed anything on the machine.
    Is this hardware, settings, software?
    Suggestions welcome.

    Hi
I think its only a setting issue.
Something similar happened on my notebook.
I started the WinDVD program to watch DVD movies and then I have switched to the TV.
This was wrong procedure! Its important and necessary switching to external monitor firstly and then to run the WinDVD program!
Maybe its the same issue! Check it!
