No Safari Bookmarks Preview Images

Hi,
some of my Safari Bookmarks in Cover Flow Modus don't show a preview image.
They just seem to get lost from time to time. And I always had this problem. With every OS and Safari, no matter which version.
How can I assure to always have preview images of my bookmarks or trigger that they'll come back?
Thanks,
Melros

Ok, interesting to hear. Thank you.
But it never felt like Safari would do it automatically. And beside, why should the cache be "full" by sometime? There's enough space on the drive.
But here's a solution I just found out for now:
After deleting the cache (and I guess it would also work for single sites without an recent preview image) I just opened the page again and let it fully load. Then the preview image is back again.
So I did it with all my folders now and it seems to work again. But sadly again not for all. There are still some with no preview images in between where even reoping the page doesn't help.
Quick tip for user who are trying this method: You can simply right click on a bookmark folder and open all bookmarks in tabs. So you won't have to open every single one.
Future solution idea for Apple:
I wish Apple would take care about it automatically. (if they already do we see that it doesn'r properly work yet). So that the images just won't get lost in the first place or at least offer a kind of "refresh all bookmark previews".
From now I'll keep an eye on when they get lost again and will get back on this post if I find out something new about it.
So thank you Carolyn for you help here! : )

Empty the Safari cache and see if that helps.

  • How do you disable WEBPAGE PREVIEW IMAGES in Safari 4?

Since I checked the 'show webpage preview images' immediately after upgrading, I've been losing hard drive space like there's no tomorrow. Every time I visited a few sites for the first time with Safari 4, I'd lose 10 MBs. After a few days I lost over 200 MBs and had enough of it. So I went to Reset Safari and noticed that now you could 'remove all webpage preview images' without resetting anything else. When I did this, I got all my space back.
I don't see anyway to undo this feature. Top Sites and Cover Flow like integration with bookmarks are nice if you've got a big screen and hard drive.

I know this thread is "answered", but I'll chime in.
I locked the said folder, and it worked fine. However, this error was marked repeatedly, ad infinitum, in the console log, for every single page I visited:
<Error>: CGImageDestinationCreate destination parameter is nil
It was getting so out of hand, filling my console.log, I had to unlock the folder.
Is there a way to lock the webpage preview cache folder, and not have Safari write to the log?
    Thanks

  • Display bookmarks as image previews

I don't suppose anybody knows if there's a way (or perhaps an extension) to display my bookmarks like image thumbnails instead of just text descriptions? It'd be much more helpful. I don't mean showing them as favicons, I mean a preview of the home page, for example.

I"m not aware of any browser that supports that thumbnails for bookmarks.
Top Sites may provide a workaround for you >   How to manage Safari's Top Sites | Macworld
You can have as many as 24 url's in Top Sites.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the General tab.
Select 24 from the Top Sites Shows:  pop up menu

  • HT6074 safari preview images

how do I get safari to update the preview images automatically under top sites? (ver. 7.0.1)?

I have 24 sites pinned to the window that are mostly webcomics.
safari used to automatically update the images and put a star in the upper left corner, but that was a few versions back when I had 10.6.
now I can't figure out how to get that to happen on the current version, I still have the option to manually update, but I would like it to happen automatically every time I open safari

  • Safari 5 doesn't saves webpage preview images

Safari doesn't saves webpage preview images. It only save images for my Top Sites pages.
When I look in my history cover flow I only see blank Safari symbols (except history from my Top Sites webpages)
Well I really want to see full cover flow.
    How can I fix this?
By the way, the Reader feature really cool and very useful.

By the way, I finally gets history to be saved. It fixed by Safari 5.
Yes, I saw your post on that one ... at least some incremental progress is being made ...
There's an area of Discussions (available only to the level 4 or 5 users) where we can post information about trouble we see out in the "public" forums ("Notable New Technical Issues"). I've been updating a thread on this issue with your progress so far with this. (I'm not sure if the Safari developers watch that though ... but just in case, I've been stashing info about this there.)
In the meantime, it's probably worth submitting a bug report via the "Help > Report Bugs to Apple" or the Apple Bug Reporter thing (if you've registered as an Apple Developer).

  • How to permanently stop Safari Webpage Preview Fetcher process?

Since the Safari Webpage Preview Fetcher process takes up to 10% of my CPU on occasion and and it uses bandwidth and it's just dumping loads of images into ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.safari/Webpage Previews is there a way to permanently stop this process from ever starting up again?
I've blocked it with Little Snitch to see if it that stops it but I don't think it has. Has anyone successfully stopped this process for the long term?

i'd like to permanently stop that as well.

  • Strange graphics issue when looking at JPGs in Safari and Preview.

I am having an issue in Safari and Preview under OS X 10.4.11. I have the exact same issue in both Safari 3 and 4(beta). The blacks on JPG images aren't black they are a dark brownish grey, all other colours show up properly. If I open the same website in Flock everything looks fine. If I download the image and open it up in Photoshop the image also looks fine. To make it even stranger if I open the image up in photoshop and re-save it as a tif file and open the tif file in Safari or Preview it looks normal. It just how it's handling JPGs!
See the following link for an image showing the issue... note the dark brownish grey colour around the watch:
    http://c77ilw.blu.livefilestore.com/y1p66KB-yBArvIBleY3s1wGZ8EgAyxRd8VLnJ9XA9zJz gPUgIBbvM5aSqPz59g1nC5TehmACKYCw/Picture%201.png
Now look at what it's supposed to look like:

Any ideas? I've tried googling everything I can think of about this issue and haven't found anyone with the same or similar situation.

I believe it to be an issue with how Safari and Preview are displaying colours under OS X, the strange thing is about 4 weeks ago I had not problems with Safari displaying these types of images and can't think of any settings I changed around that time. Safari under Windows does not show this issue and it is not showing the issue on a different Mac running Safari under OS X 10.4.11 either, so it has to be a setting somewhere that inadvertently was changed I think.
Again it is only showing on black and near black colours no other part of the image is affected.
Below is a link I made in photoshop comparing a screen grab of the issue (top half) vs a downloaded copy (bottom half) of the image with raised curves to accentuate the difference for those who may have darker gamma settings and are having trouble seeing the problem.

    thx alot indeed

Before I share the app I use I have something to say.
You have lousy forum etiquette. You constantly post asking things you could easily do research for yourself, both here in the Apple Discussion forums and on the web. You rarely show any appreciation for the help people give to you by marking their posts as Helpful or Solved. In fact you rarely even return and mark your original posts as Answered, you just ignore them and move on to post another question. You obviously don't read the links people provide because you ask another question that has usually been answered in the link.
You received a printed User Guide with your Mac and there is a Help utility in the Finder, as well as many OS X and 3rd party apps, in the Help Menu, that answers many of the questions you post. There is a Google search box in the upper right corner of every Safari window that has a toolbar, I, and I'm sure others here who assist you, often find the answers in barely a minute by typing the topic in that search box and pressing enter.
Most of the apps you ask about are available at Version Tracker. It also has a search box. Plus the apps are arranged in topics, as well as the newest postings.
Please go back and mark all your previous posts that are answered, as well as, show some appreciation to the folks who helped you with answers and suggestions.
I use ThumbsUp. It is free, a Universal binary and available on Version Tracker. Go to the Preferences/Create and choose the Icons for Originals. Then you can highlight groups of photos and just drag & drop them on the ThumbsUp Icon in your Apps folder and it will open and start creating a Photo Icon for each photo. Small groups are almost instant. I have done as many as 150 in one drag & drop.

  • Safari and Preview have color space recognition bugs

I found that both Safari and Preview have problems when viewing photos taken by a Canon DC. By default, the Canon cameras use sRGB for their digital still images. But Preview cannot recognize it and would report "ColorSync profile" as "-" in "Tools/Get Info". I guess that Generic RGB profile is applied in such a condition. If the file is opened by iPhoto or Photoshop, the color space information is recognized correctly. And if sRGB profile is manually assigned to the image using ColorSync Utility, Preview/Safari will give the same vivid color representation as iPhoto/PS do.
The image below can be used to do the experiment.

When previewing images by clicking on the thumbnail in an Event for example, I've been finding that many images preview in a 'zoomed in' way so only a small part of the photos is previewed in a highly magnified view.
Initially I could find no cause. Then I tried right click - Edit and on the affected images, always get this warning:
"Image Cannot Be Edited - This photo was previously edited with another application or with an early version of Iphoto. Duplicate this photo to edit it." and a "Duplicate To Edit" Button is displayed.
The external Editor defined for iPhoto is Adobe Photoshop Elements.
Now, I reckon the MUST be others out there affected by this same apparent Preview bug, yet my searches have not revealed any answers.  Also seems impossible to find a contact number for adobe???

Spotlight lists items and shows preview images.  BUT what about showing the path/location address of an item in my computer.
Especially important if I've put the item in the wrong folder and what to locate it without multi-steps. iMac OS X 10.5 was more useful.
Old OSX Spotlight function automatically displayed path/location within the machine:  e.g. desktop/folder/sub-folder/item.
Can I make Spotlight show the path?

Press option-command and the path is displayed at the bottom of the little preview window.  Press command-return and the enclosing folder opens.

  • Previewing images in forms 11g from the server

    Hi All,
i need your help in this issue please
i've just migrated my application from forms 6i to forms 11g
there is a function in my application that i used that previewed images that exists on a network drive that are used in an image gallary
now i don't have this setup as the application is hosted on the weblogic server
i want an alternative method that i can use to preview the images from the server
    the old way was:
read_image_file('.\default_image.jpg','any','preview.image_preview'); --this shows a default image if no image was selected
if :search_results.file_path is not null then
read_image_file(:preview.image_path||'\'||:search_results.file_path,'any','preview.image_preview');     -- this shows the image that we retreived it's name from the database but it exists on the file system
    end if;
i've configured the webutil but i don't know what method to use
also another functionality that i lost in the migration is opening a browser window to preview the final article that the editor entered using my application
    the old way was:
    declare
         url varchar2(1000);
    begin
         url:='http://10.100.100.197:55/allcontent/allcontentimages/'||:SEARCH_RESULTS.FILE_PATH||'';
    WIN_API_SHELL.WinExec('"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" '||url||'',
    WIN_API.SW_SHOWMAXIMIZED,TRUE);
    Exception when NO_DATA_FOUND then
    MESSAGE('CAN NOT FIND THE FILE');
    end;
now ithe WIN_API_SHELL is not working as i'm on the server side and i don't know the alternative
    please advice

    Hello Nivin
If you want to read an file from local drive or from netwrok drive then before reading images please make sure that do you have full rights and have you mapped that network drive .
after that you use read_image_file built in(). secondly you configure WEBUTIL package.
please visit the following link for configuring webutil.
I configured my webutil package from this link and its worked fine.

  • I am unable to get same preview image colors in Bridge and Lightroom

I am unable to get same file preview in Bridge and Lightroom. The Lightroom preview image (in both the Library and Develop) is more de-saturated. But the exported/saved jpegs match. If I try to match the Lightroom preview image to the Bridge preview image, the resulting Lightroom  export colors are off. I have tried this with images with no changes and with changes and the result is the same. I have Lightroom 5.6 and CR 8.6. I am using the latest version of Bridge.
I contacted Adobe support and followed all instructions to try to fix but the problem remains. This comment was made after several solutions were tried, including updating Lightroom. :
Adobe: there would be little difference in case of preview of Bridge CC and Lightroom 5. However, after exporting it would be same. Both use different technology at the background and work in a different way. The preview which you see in lightroom is not the actual image but incase of Bridge you see the actual image ( original ). That's the reason there is a color variation between previews.
Me: But how can I then use the Lightroom preview to get accurate colors when processing a RAW file? If I do adjustments to the RAW file in Lightroom it looks different when exported. That doesn't seem to make sense when Lightroom is designed for photograhy
Adobe: Please check in develop module of lightroom.
Me: Nothing changes in the develop mode. The image looks the same as in the preview/Library mode.
This screenshot shows the unmodified images in Develop (Lightroom) and ACR (Bridge). The color differences are significant.
Lightroom exported jpeg file, unmodified from preview image in Develop (which looks like Bridge preview image not the Lightroom preview)
Bridge saved jpeg file, unmodified from preview image in ACR
Any suggestions on what I need to do to Lightroom to make it show accurate colors. If not, I don't see any point in using it to process files.
    Thanks, Marie

Bridge is just a browser. It displays according to the embedded color profile but assumes sRGB for all untagged images.
In Lightroom library previews use Adobe RGB and in Develop the working space is Pro Photo RGB.
The real question is why use both Bridge and Lightroom. Stick to one, not both.

  • How do I delete ALL Safari bookmarks?

I am currently using a MacBook Pro with OSX Lion 10.7.2 and Safari 5.1.2 and would like to know how to delete ALL Safari Bookmarks.
I have selected the various titles under Collections and selected all the bookmarks on the right and deleted these.  However, not that there is a Bookmarks section on the left just as there is a Collections section.  The bookmarks under this Bookmarks section are the one's I can't seem to delete all of without selecting each individually.  I believe these bookmarks might have been what was imported from my PC bookmarks when I converted.  However, I would like to be rid of them and there are a lot to remove.  It would be very nice if there were a less time consuming way to accomplish this task.  I've gone to find this plist file that I've seen mentioned in the support archives and I don't know if I don't understand the structure of Macs well enough but I can not find the plist to remove.
Please help!  I don't understand many acronyms and such that responses typically include so if you have a solution for me, please be very specific.
    Thanx

don't know if I don't understand the structure of Macs well enough but I can not find the plist to remove.
    Quit Safari.
Click a clear space on your Desktop. You'll see Finder top left corner of the screen.
From that menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this in exactly as you see it here:   ~/Library/Safari
That will open a Finder window for you.
Move the Bookmarks.plist file to the Desktop.
    Relaunch Safari.
That should remove all the Bookmarks from Safari.
If you want to re import those Bookmarks at some point, with Safari open, from the menu bar click File > Import Bookmarks.
BTW... when you are searching the Finder there are two libraries. One is root the other is user.
The    ~ (Tilde) character represents user:   ~/Library
    No tilde:  /Library     is root
