No signal at all after installing solaris-10 x86

After successfully installing Solaris-10 x86 on my sytem when I try to boot , there is a Sendmail alert that "My unqualified host name sleeping for retry" and after that there is no signal on monitor . though CPU is running and accessing hard disk. This leave me with no option.
System is not on the network and having Pentium-4 processor and 915G chipset motherbord.

I'm guessing your X11 is misconfigured. You need to make the settings match what your monitor can display.

    hi;
I faced that problem when I was a beginner on solaris as you were. I tried to install solaris to my windows installed x86 based PC. in my fisrst few attempts ý always saw that message, afterwards somehow I managed to install solaris to my PC but this time windows failed.I think that is because of the inconsistencies between those OS but if you need to install solaris you can use VM ware workstation with this software you can use both OS without problems.

  • Strange problems after installing Solaris 10 u6 on 64-bit PC

    Hi all,
I have run into some very strange issues after installing Solaris 10 update 6 on my 64-bit PC (it's almost new). The problems are with graphical applications and desktop environments based on GTK (so it seems, at least).
I have installed Solaris normally, following most of the default options and choosing the "Entire Group" software packages installation. However, after the first login I've seen that:
    1. No user creation process was offered to me and I had to login as root (I find it pretty strange)
    2. After logging in as root into JDK system, my screen went blank for a couple of seconds and then the system threw me back to the login screen.
    3. Logging into the old CDE environment was possible, but launching Firefox from there (using a command line terminal) wasn't. It gave me the following error message:
ld.so.1: firefox-bin: fatal: libmlib.so.2: open failed: no such file or directory
ld.so.1: firefox-bin: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/bin/firefox/firefox-bin: symbol gtk_init: referenced symbol not found.
It's very strange because GTK toolkit and JDK environment are supposed to be the core functionalities provided by Solaris. Does anyone have an idea what's going on?
    My system sum-up:
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Quand Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz
RAM: 2 Gb of DDR2 SDRAM
Motherboard: MSI MS-7529 (Intel G31 chipset)
    Monitor: AOC LM725
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT
Hard disk: 2 Western Digital HDs (SATA) 320 Gb each,
1 Western Digital external USB HD MyBook Essential 2, 500 Gb
DVD drives: 2 LG DVD drives (SATA)
Network card: Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC
I use my system in the following way:
On the first hard disk, I have a one-partition 32-bit Windows XP SP3 installation (ported from my old computer).
On the second hard disk, I have a functioning Fedora Core 9 installed on the first half of the disk's space (the installation is self-organized into several Linux partitions, e. g. /boot, /swap etc; I am a newbie so I don't know too much about Linux partitioning - only specified to Fedora how much space it could use for its volume group). I installed Solaris onto the second half of the second disk.
It has be noted that my USB external drive seemed to conflict with the network or graphics cards during the Fedora installation and caused it to hang sporadically, so I installed Fedora with this disk detached. I also detached it when I was installing Solaris, though it seems to have not influenced the problems I experienced. I also have attempted installing Solaris before I did so with Fedora, but had the same issues.

Well, it seems that the cause of the problem was that my DVD image was just corrupted - I didn't check it vs MD5 codes supplied by Sun assuming it went automatically OK. I downloaded the image again (this time it was OK), reinstalled the system and successfully logged into JDS. However, I am still puzzled why Solaris doesn't offer to create a default non-root user during the installation process.

    Hello All,
    I'm having trouble installing Solaris 10(x86) u4 8/07 on a new Dell OptiPlex 755.
I have also tried installing opensolaris 9/07 Express Dev snv_70b with the same issue.
I tried disabling all unnecessary hardware in the BIOS as well.
After GNU GRUB loads and I select Solaris install after about 20 dots.... I get:

No SOF interrupts have been received
this USB EHCI host controller is unusable

I am only installing Solaris 10 - no other OS will be on the HD.
Is there any hope for getting SolX installed on this machine or should I return this hardware and by a different model? I have to build 2 pc's with SolX for development boxs.
    Thank you in Advance,

    Hi Experts,
I have multiple optiplex 755 Systems and facing the same problem.
I am not able to install Solaris either 8/07 or Exress 9/07.
can anybody answer with useful and working solution, on how to solve it, I mean 1. How to get Solaris 9/07 or 8/07 Installed on an Optiplex 755 system
(basically one with PC1/2 missing for keyboard and Mouse)I am a genuinely concerned guy, so please don't mind the rudeness in this question.

  • Hard disk problem after installing Solaris 10 u5 on a Sun Ultra 24

    Hi.
After receiving a new Sun Ultra 24, shipped with Solaris 10 u4, the first thing I did was installing Solaris 10 u5. X wouldn't start but that was not a big problem and installed it in text mode. Installation went fine but, when the system starts, a single beep is heard and after some seconds some warning message appear on the console, before the "Hostname: ..." message, informing that some read operation on my hard disk had timed out and were aborted. The system then starts up normally. The only other anomaly is that the diagnostic partition in unbootable.
I ran the hard disk tests from the tools and drivers CDs and all of the tests were passed. Solaris 10 u4 was working normally so I'm wondering if this may be a bug.
    Thanks for your help,
    Enrico.

Thanks anyway, I discovered what the problem was: a bug in Solaris 10 u5:

  • Timefinder mirror  BCV issues after installing Solaris Cluster 3.2

I just installed Solaris Cluster 3.2, and since then, my BVC's will no longer mount. I have a case open with EMC already, just thought I check and see if anyone here has ever ran into the same issues and found a fix. The BCV job runs just fine until it comes to the time to mount it under an alternate location. This fails which I initially assumed was because SC needs the diskgroup to be registered. However, I have BCV's running on other servers that use SC3.2 as well, and they work just fine. If anyone has any past experience with this, please let me know how you overcame the problem.
    TIA...

Did a rebuild with current patches, did not run JASS or an in-house hardening script on the nodes and I get the same result.
I think I might have a bug issue with the bge driver or something.
On the first node before running scinstall all nic lights are lit.
After that first node reboots from scinstall the nic lights stay lit until right before the CMM messages begin appearing on the console. At that point the interconnect lights go out and stay out physically.
No errors were detected with sccheck or in the install logs for the cluster.
I tried a rebuild of the cluster nodes using a switch (ProCurve 2626) for the interconnects rather than an ethernet cable or cross-over cable.
I have a hme interface in my V210 and V240 and I am going to use that for one of the interconnects to see if it matters.
Basically at this point it is definitely not something physical (bad cable, bad switch port, etc) but something in the cluster configuration from scinstall that is not digging the interconnects and keeping the cluster nodes from conversing.
Since the cluster isn't working anyway I can do a clintr enable node:port,switch@port and see that the ports and switch ports show as enabled by clintr status does not show an interconnect active and the physical ports are not lit.
I do see references to bgeX/0 unregistered in /var/adm/messages but I haven't found information as to what this means or what to do about it exactly yet.
Closest thing so far is this:

  • Hd won't boot after installing solaris 10

I installed cd1 for Solaris 10 for x64/x86. Then I rebooted as I was instructed by the setup but the pc won't boot the hd. Am I doing something wrong? How can I boot my hd to solaris?

Having just installed Solaris 10 u1 on a system myself recently. This version now uses a different boot loader. So it may help others to know which version you are installing. (maybe it's opensolaris?)
Also, the drives on these systems are first partitioned using the DOS "fdisk" type partitioning. You basically create a SOLARIS2 type partition and build the "format slices" inside it. If this Solaris partition isn't marked as "active" in fdisk you will get no place fast. So check that first.
Usually the install does all this for you but depending on how you did the install it may not have.

  • Panic loop after patching solaris 10 x86

I have installed a number of patches on to my server and think I have messed things up somehow, wrong order, not in single user mode, missing dependencies, not rebooting, etc...
After installing I rebooted and now am stuck in a panic loop. I have gathered as much information as possible below.
The server is a Sunfire V20z running Solaris 10.
If anyone can interpret the below information and point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated.

I am seeing something similar to this, but I can bring it up and it crashed after a random amount of time. Any ideas what patches could have caused this?

  • Please help installing solaris 10 -x86

Hello, Im a total newbie to solaris, can someone please help me installing?
I download solaris-10 x86 and I joined the 5 iso files and burnt the dvd, it appears to be OK, but when I boot the dvd all I get is the command line
    GNU GRUB Version 0,95 Grub>
according to the installation notes it is supposed to boot into a menu which allows various installation choices.
How can I start the installation from the command line? or is there something missing from the dvd?
the dvd has 20,023 files) (44,216 folders) (size on disk 3,57GB)
    Thanks
    Tom

  • Installing Solaris 10 x86 under VMWare

I got Solaris 10 x86 release 03/05 installed and working under Windows XP VMWare 5.0. I tried to install under Windows XP VMWare 4.5.1, but there was strange behavior: JDS freezes when mouse is clicked on anything on the desktop. Strange thing was that this did not happen until well after the install and using JDS for a few days.
I think it may have something to do with the X VMWare video driver. By default, it seems to choose VMWare 0405; I changed this to VMWare SGA Virtual Display. Seems okay now (using same virtual machine and install of Solaris).
Any other notes anyone has to add?
    Thanx,
    GB

I noticed similar issues, but if you have a window open like an xterm, you can Alt-TAB and regain control. I am not sure it is the X server, but would love to know how to troubleshoot it better.
It seems that if you are clicked in a window, you will be forced to type in that window. But you can open a new X client (like xterm), but you have to Alt-TAB to get to it. Once you cycle through using Alt-TAB, it appears that the mouse control returns.
I have not been able to consistently reproduce it. I have VMware 4.0 and high resolution display by setting up Xorg.conf.

  • Installing Solaris 10 x86??.

    Hi Folks,
I am new to Solaris and have been trying to install a copy of Sol 10 x86 to VMware workstation 5.5. When I start the VM it boots the solaris dvd fine and
    then the following happens....
    Loading Stage 2.......
(The screen hangs at this for about 2-3 minutes)
Then I get the grub command prompt.
    grub>
I presume I have to pass some commands to grub to install solaris though I really havent a clue. Any information or pointers would be much appreciated on this one. If I hit the tab key I get a list of grub commands though dunno which to use?.
    Cheers in advance...
    Barry.

    Any
information or pointers would be much appreciated on
this one. If I hit the tab key I get a list of grub
commands though dunno which to use?.Something serious has happened. Unfortunately, I don't have any good techniques for how best to proceed at this point.
