No Sleep/Wake button option under Settings

I just had my ipod nano replaced, and there is no Sleep/Wake button option under Settings anywhere (In Music, etc.) I had no problems finding it and setting it up in my previous nano (need to useit for the next song option when I work out.) Did Apple go away with it?

The sleep/wake button can be used for the following functions (according to the indtruction manual pdf file you referenced) - "
Music settings let you customize how you listen to and play back music on iPod nano. To see these settings, tap the Settings icon on the Home screen and then tap Music. Here are the Music preferences you can set:
"Sleep/Wake Button
Choose whether double-clicking the Sleep/Wake button pauses or plays the current track, or plays the next track."
I used it in my previous iPod to play next track (a great option for a runner, instead of having to use the touch screen.)
However, the new iPod I was given after I started having issues with my previous one after a few weeks of use, has no way to assign any functions to the sleep/wake button, as there is no icon/option for the sleep/wake button under Settings/Music, at least not in my new iPod.
Hence I am wondering if it is a glitch in my particular iPod, and I need to get it fixed through Apple, or, given all the issues people seem to be having with sleep/wake button getting stuck after a few months of use, they decided to just disable any fuctions for it, besides the basic sleep and wake.

  • IPhone 5 sleep/wake button replacement programme.

Just wondering if anyone ha had difficulty getting their sleep/wake button replaced under the current programme.
Currently Apple are refusing to repace my button due to the fact their is cosmetic damage to my iPhone (the phone is in perfect working order otherwise apart from the sleep/wake button)
Apple claim the button can only be fixed once I've paid for the cosmetic damage to be repiared at over €210. I've said i'm fine to recieve my phone back with the same scratches at I sent it out with but they won't offer me the option as they may need to replace the entire phone, however this isn't my problem.
Apple only say the phone needs to be in working order to be eligbible which it is.

I've just been to the Apple Store Genius Bar with the same issue.  Although there's a small scratch on the corner they classed it as normal wear and tear and it's now been sent off to Holland (!?) for a repair.  The process was quite long, involving the iPhone being wiped and sent through diagnostic checks (to make sure that the phone didn't have any other problems and to verify ownership I assume) but they gave me a loan phone and it's now sent off - turnaround is about a week.
It does seem odd if minor cosmetic damage voids the replacement programme - the only thing I can think of is if it was a ding or dent then that's evidence of being dropped - but like the situation with over-sensitive moisture detectors a few years back it does feel like it's Apple trying to wriggle out of a warranty repair (or in this case a recall issue) by applying the letter of the law rather than common sense.
Just one further issue was that when I checked my serial number at home against the 'replacement programme' https://ssl.apple.com/support/iphone5-sleepwakebutton/ my phone came up as "not eligible" but when the genius bar entered it in their mac-book it said it was eligible!  Probably just me entering the serial number wrong so I don't know for sure.

  • I was eligible for replacement for my iphone 5 under the sleep/wake button program. Took it to apple store and they declined saying hardware failure. I am baffled whether apple is serious about customers. They manufacture defective goods and we are stuck!

The issue started just out of warranty. Had powering on problem and did not want to spend money on repair. After that the phone crashed and refused to power on for 4 months. Now I am eligible for repair but apple store declined saying it is a hardware problem and beyond repair. I am not able to comprehend the attitude of Apple. Obviously manufacturing sub standard products is their fault and we are paying heavy price!!
The company is obviously gonna lose in the long run!!

No it is not user damAged. I would like to clarify that this piece had problems like bugs, power on and off and charging issues. It used to heat up a lot while in use. It is defective iphone to begin with. Now when iphone acknowledges there is a problem, why not replace??
If the phone was not operating as its supposed to initially you could of had the phone replaced under the 1Year Warranty. Apple is only Fixing phones with strictly "sleep/wake" button issues. i.e. if your phone has other issues other than "sleep/wake" you must fix those on your own (if out of warranty) prior to apple fixing the sleep/wake. However if your device is under warranty they will give you a new phone.

  • My sleep/wake button is stuck, out of warranty options?

Alright, my iPhone 4's sleep/wake button became stuck last Sunday, and hasn't popped out at. I have an appointment on Sunday with the Geniuses but since my phone is out warranty, I'm expecting my wallet to take a hit. Are there any options available in relation to repairing my phone instead of paying $200 for an out-of-warranty replacement?

you can always google to see if there's an iPhone repair shop near you and see what they charge.....

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipad dipped in water and sleep/wake button not working properly?

My son dipped my ipad 2 in the water bucket for like half a second the ipad, before this ipad was out of battery and was off! i quickly took it out dried all the excess water and even used a blow dryer to dry it,after a quick dry i tried to swtich it on and everything is working okay till now except the wake/sleep button, its not locking the screen or not switching off the ipad. it did turned it on but its not locking the screen or turning off the ipad!
when i tried reseting it from the general menu in settings it turned off and then the apple logo kept on coming for like 5 seconds and then going away this keeps on happening till i dont keep a hold off the sleep/wake button to switch it on or till the ipad runs out of battery, then if i hold the wake/sleep button to turns it.
One more problem im facing as soon as the ipad turned.it gives me power off option everytime then iv to cancel it to use my ipad.
so the main question is my sleep and wake button is turning on my device but not working while its on,what would be the problem and whats the solution?
p.s. i was tensed about it so i quickly turned it on to check whether its working,i know i shouldnt had turned it on :/
currently my ipad is off and iv put it under a fan to dry, thinking this might might help but im feeling it wont now its too late:(

    Hello:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
That resets the iPad.  If that does not work, I am afraid it has been damaged by the "water dip."

  • How to go about Iphone5 sleep/wake button replacement program in Saudi Arabia

The sleep/wake button of my iphone5 doesn't work. Aware of the replacement program but literally no help from the service provider in KSA. It's been 4 months since my warranty expired. Any ideas anyone?

My iPhone 5 falls under both Battery and Sleep/Wake button replacement program. It was given to me as a gift by somebody and I found out that the country of purchase was US. Most of the time we can get Apple product in the market that originally purchased in the US and then brought and sold to different countries. When I contacted Apple Technical support for my replacement, I was told that I need to send my phone to US for this repair. I am currently in United Arab Emirates and don't know many people in US whom I can send the phone to take it to the Apple Store for repair. Since Apple has authorized service providers and Store in my country of residence, can you please provide the solution in this regard that is much more convenient than sending the phone to US?
Will await a simpler solution and reply.

You were given the solution already by Apple, why do you feel you need to ask again?
    There are no international warranty.
Your two options 1. send it to someone in the U.S.  2. fly to the U.S.  that is all.

I recently updated my ipad wifi only to the new ios 6.1.2 and initially I had the auto cover lock option which can be seen in the Generals tab, but then it stoped working!! Before the update, the auto cover lock worked fine. So after trying all the options, I then did a complete reset on the ipad and now its gone all together from the General tab!! I can no longer see the "auto cover lock" option.
The iPad cover lock is for when you use a cover with magnets in it to lock and unlock the iPad when you close the cover or open it. Try running a refrigerator magnet along the sides of the iPad and see if that trips the iPad Cover Lock back into the settings.
That is not the same thing as the iPad Auto Lock setting which allows you to set an allotted time before the iPad goes to sleep.
You can try resetting all settings to see if the Auto Lock feature retinrs to the iPad.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. This can be a little time consuming re-entering all of the device settings again.

If it is one year old minus one day it is still under warranty. If it is more than a year since you purchased it then yes, the warranty has expired.
Millions of iPads have been sold. Most continue to function long after their warranty has expired. Check the many requests about updating the iOS on the original iPad on these forums and you'll see that there are many iPads still working after three years. My iPad 2, which I had for over two years is still working well for my son in law who took it over from me when I bought a new one.
Given that there will always be a few iPads that fail early. Most of those will be covered under warranty. But some will fail after the warranty has expired and before the owner expected it to. I'm sorry to hear that you are in this category. Take your iPad to an Apple store and have it looked at. They will provide you with alternatives, one of which is to purchase a like model to the one that failed at a discount. You can then know your options and make the best choice for you.

  • Sleep/Wake Button Weird - Not Working?

My brother kicked my iPod touch 2nd gen off of the couch and I didn't see how it landed, but the Sleep/Wake button is not working now and acting weird. It seems sticky and doesn't click easily, but when I press it, it doesn't lock the screen at all. Sometimes if I click it multiple times in quick succession it gives me the option to turn it off, or it will give me the same option to turn it off if I just press it once. Does that mean it is sticking inside the iPod? Because you normally have to hold it down to turn it off, but I'm only clicking it once.
Snd once, after clicking the Sleep/Wake button many times without anything happening, I pressed the home button, but the screenshot had been activated somehow. I ended up taking about 30 screenshots of my calculator before a boy in my Geometry class fiddled with it a little and I finally got back to Home. What does that mean?
Will Apple help me? What should I do? Can it be fixed? I just got it for Christmas, about 5 months ago, so my warranty is still going.

It may be a mechanical problem, it may be software. Do a restore through iTunes and see if the problem persists.
As for your warranty, if your touch shows any signs of "abuse" they won't repair it under warranty. You can try taking it to your local Apple store and see where you get. Just be carefull about what you tell the Genius.

  • IPhone Sleep/Wake Button Stuck

My sleep wake button is stuck. There is nothing else wrong with the phone. I know it is not covered under the warranty because it was dropped, however, I am extremely annoyed to find out that after not being offered insurance for such an expensive item, (I will not even get started on how I do not comprehend that it does not exist)they do not offer any services to fix the phone either. It is really irritating to pay so much money for a product and not recieve any help when you call the company. I was on the phone for 2 hours today and was told there was nothing they could do. I even offered to pay for them to just fix the button, but that was not an option. Clever solution to refunding early owners $100.

AT&T does not offer insurance on any of its high end smart phones.
AT&T does not offer any repairs on the product. Apple handles all repair services. They will fix the phone for you, but the fee is substantial ($250 for the 8gb phone).

  • Sleep/wake button works, but not when iPhone is asleep

I just upgraded from an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 5. When my phone is asleep the top wake/sleep button is unresponsive. The home button will wake the phone up, and once it's awake I can use the top button to wake/sleep the phone. But if I sleep the phone (not turn it off but just sleep it) and wait about 30 seconds, then the top button becomes unresponsive. I've tried holding the top button and that doesn't do anything either.
I do not have Applecare for the phone, nor is under warranty.
I tried the Apple top button replacement web site, but it reports that the phone isn't in the serial number range of affected phones.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Hi Craig Volpe,
If you are having issues with your iPhone's sleep/wake button not waking the phone up when it has been asleep for more than 30 seconds, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
iOS: Force an app to close
Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • My daughter tried to open a game on her Ipod touch and the screen went white and I can't get it to do ANYTHING...I've tried holding the sleep/wake button and it does NOTHING, still only a white screen.

My daughter tried to play the My Horse game on her Ipod touch that she got for Christmas and when she opened the game it said something about sending "push notifications" and gave the choice of "don't allow" or "ok"...we chose "don't allow". After that the screen went white and now we cannot get the Ipod touch to respond to anything. I tried holding the sleep/wake button to try to restart it and it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions to get this device working again???

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If that doesn't work, try a Restore:
From iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad.
There's more that you can do.  Post back if none of the above solves the problem.
By the way, I always allow "push."  That allows the app developer to "push" information to your device rather than waiting for you to ask for it.  However, "don't allow" shouldn't cause the problem that you're experiencing.
