No smoothness in PDF scrolling in preview

Hello,
I bought a MBP retina 13' mid 2014 (2.6GHz i5) a month ago and i am currently using Yosemite as my OS. I would like to know if there is any issue with the low end retina MBP's or not. Because the PDF reading using Preview is sluggish even in very light pdf files.
Thank you!

  • Editing pdf files in Preview painfully SLOW with mavericks! Why? How to fix?

Editing pdf files in Preview is painfully SLOW with Mavericks! With mountain lion everything was so smooth .... Why? How can I fix this?

I stopped using preview. Adobe Acrobat Pro is running fine ... this is not a solution to the problem though. The question remains open: why is preview not running as before?
    Why did I upgrade?!

  • PDF Scrolling in Safari

Pdfs scroll very badly in Safari. It is jerky, very sensitive, too fast. This has come up before in the Communities, but the solutions I've found either don't work or aren't relevant after OSX updates. In preview scrolling is well behaved.  Any update solutions?
I am using a Magic Mouse on an iMac running OSX 10.9.1,  Safari Version 7.0.1 (9537.73.11).
Same problem on a MBP (same setup).
    Thanks

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Printing problem with PDF graphs from preview

Whenever I print PDF files from preview or from safari, some graphs print incorrectly, although they are displayed correctly on the screen.  This only happens with black and white figures and either a negative image with the black and white are reversed is printed or the background of the graphic just prints as a black box.  Colour elements are unaffected.  This doesn't happen when printing the same files using Adobe Reader or Adobe Professional.  Any suggestions for tweaking this, or am I going to have to start using the Adobe plugins instead?

Please try it on Adobe Reader version 10.1.0 ,  Please note that this forum is for Adobe Reader on android and not for PDF Viewer.

  • In Safari how do I open a .PDF file in Preview instead of Adobe Reader?

When a pdf file opens on my computer in Safari, it opens with Adobe Reader (v. 7.0.8). Until recently, I could right-click on my mouse and and a drop-down menu would appear with the option to open the pdf file in Preview instead of Adobe. That option has now disappeared from the drop-down menu. Can anyone explain how to get back the menu option to open the pdf file in Preview? Thanks. David

My computer automatically open PDF inside the Safari
window, but I wish it would go back to opening it
externally via Adobe. (maybe we should trade
    computers:-)
Anyway, we have the same question.
How do we control whether PDF launches internal to
    Safari, or external in Adobe?
This is what I would like to as well. I often have a lot of pdf files I need to open and then save to my hard drive. When I click on a pdf file on a website Safari opens it and then I need to right click in the document to open it with Adobe. How can I get it to open in Adobe the first time without having to right click after it opens in Safari?
    Thanks!

  • Viewing PDF Files in Preview

Since I upgraded to Leopard I am unable to properly view certain pdf files in Preview (Adobe also has some challenges). This is not a consistent problem. Certain pdf files open fine. My graphic designer just sent me a brochure that she created in CS Illustrator and I can see some of the graphical elements, but none of the text. After opening the file I also have to force quit Preview. I had called support a few weeks ago and they instructed me to reboot and reset my parameter rams. This sometimes helps, but shutting my computer down every time doesn't seem to be the best solution to the problem.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Preview supports only the open source PDF standard.
Adobe Acrobat Reader the latest version supports almost all PDF files, unless you don't install custom fonts that certain people sometimes add to their PDF.
They should be careful not to do that, as not everyone has the same font library.

  • Problems viewing Combined PDF's in Preview

I work primarily in Photoshop CS5.  All of my work is created there.  My problem arises when creating and viewing compressed PDF's using "Preview" on Macintosh.  The text is very funky.  But as expected, Acrobat itself displays all files flawlessly.  My PDF creation flow is as follows.
    1.  Save Photoshop Document(s) to individual Photoshop PDF's, without layers so I keep only one image and my vector data. (I always resize and save my documents appropiately for their intended use.  I keep all file sizes to a minimum when creating a document for email use.)
    2.  Using Acrobat, I combine/merge my files, selecting the appropriate compression method for its intended use (Small, Medium, Large)
When I use the Medium compression in Acrobat, I encounter no problems through "Preview".  All of my text appears as it should.  Works great, but I'm left with a 26MB file.
When I use the Small compression in Acrobat (suggested for email) I have all kinds of problems with my text in "Preview".  I would love to use this option as my files sizes are half of what they are at Medium compression.
I know that "Preview" is not a replacement for Acrobat, but Mac's default application for opening PDF's is "Preview", and many of the users that I deal with are not equiped with any Adobe software.  Is there a fix?  What is Acrobat discarding when it compresses the file for emailing?
I might add that the small version that is not displaying the text, still contains the text (I'm able to select it), it's just not visible.

The problem isn't with what Acrobat is discarding, but what Mac Preview is doing with the data available. The problem is with Preview. You cannot make a silk purse with a sow's ear. If Preview is doing a terrible job rendering a perfectly fine pdf, that Reader displays appropriately, there is nothing Adobe can do.

  • Issue saving edited pdf file on preview

    Hi
I opened a 5 page page pdf file on preview and just wanted to save the last page and delet the others.  When I am done, I am not able to save, or save as or cancel. When I click on save as a page for save as came on but disapeared without i could change the folder name and then it frooze.
    Thanks for your help.

First, you need an app capable of reading PDFs but that's not the issue you should be addressing. You cannot upload PDFs to job sites using Safari. Safari allow this ONLY for videos and pictures.
To do what you're asking, others have suggested using an alternative iOS browser called iCab Mobile or iUploader (iTunes links). Both should help you.

  • Images in PDF scrolling open?

If I print an image-heavy presentation from Indesign (or powerpoint) to PDF the images in the PDF  scroll open - looks unprofessional. How can I get the whole page to open at once?

    Hi Ruth,
Open the PDF file in Acrobat and choose File > Properties > Initial View.  Make sure 'Magnification' is set to 'Fit Page'.
    Save the document.

How to I set an internal link in a PDF document using Preview?  After setting a link under the Tools/Annotations menu, the link doesn't work and no detailed instructions are provided via the Help menu other than it showing the pull-down menu selection to make.

No.  I am able to use the other features such as underlining, highlighting, adding rectangles and oval and save those changes.

  • Why don't pdf open in Preview, it asks where Adobe Acrobat is located? I never used Acrobat and do not want to use it.

I am using Safari 5.0.5 and open a page that is a PDF and only a black screen comes up and asks where I have Adobe Acrobat. I do not have Acrobat and want to use preview. I looked in the Safari preferences and there is no place to set it so PDFs only use Preview. Please help!

  • Note function on pdfs opened in preview

When I add notes to pdfs opened in preview, they are placed in the middle of the page and text. Is there a way to move these around so that they don't cover the text?

Ah, you are right. I left the highlight function on, so preview wasn't allowing me to drag the notes.

  • Encrypting PDF documents in Preview

If you try to encrypt a PDF document in Preview by selecting the encrypt checkbox in the Save As panel, you might find that when you re-open the encrypted document, any forms that you filled out in the document have garbled characters instead of the text. This appears to be a bug to me.
To encrypt a PDF document that contains a form that you filled out with the Preview application:
    1. Choose "Print..." from the File menu.
    2. In the sheet that appears, choose "Save as PDF..." from the PDF button in the lower left corner.
    3. In the Save panel that appears, click the "Security Options..." button in the lower middle of the panel.
    4. Complete the panel that appears according to the security restrictions you want.
    5. Save the PDF from the Save panel in step 3.
When you open the document back up, you will be prompted for passwords according to the restrictions you specified. The document's entered text should be just as you saved it.
*Warning: If you choose to password protect the ability to print the document, and re-open the encrypted document and try to print it, it asks you for the password. Even if you enter the password, the document won't print. The encryption permissions in the Inspector floating panel for the document will also say that you don't have the ability to print. Seems like another bug.*
I would think that encrypting a document should also give you the ability to password protect it. Having to act like you're printing the document seems unintuitive. I hope these bugs get fixed soon.

No sense posting here unless you have a problem. If you want to report this to Apple, either send Feedback or send bug reports and enhancement requests via its Bug Reporter system. To do the latter, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • Can't combine two PDF doc in Preview and save under different title.

I regularly used Preview to combine two scanned pages into a single document and them save them under a different name using "Save As..." With Lion I get a unhappy run-around within Versions and can't save the combined document. I wound up placing the two files in folder and zipping it for transmission via Mail. What is the procedure under Lion with Versions, or how do I disable Versions? I can track my documents quite adequately without Versions.

See  post in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3437156?start=0&tstart=0
You can combine PDFs directly in Preview, but the interface is a little tricksy.
First open the sidebar in Preview.  If your existing PDF has only one page, there will be just that one thumbnail.
The key is to drag new files onto this thumbnail/icon, not below it.  If you drag below it you'll just show two separate docs in the same preview window-- but if you drag on top onto it it will highlight and the two files will combine.  Then you can hit save.

  • Problem Creating Internal pdf Links In Preview

I am trying to create internal links in a pdf file within Preview. When I "Set Destination" to a particular page within the file, the link always goes to the page after the one I set. The strange thing is that when I view the same file on a Windows PC it works right. Any ideas how to fix?

Did you ever find out why this happens? I am having the same problem and so is another mac user I know. We can't figure it out!
