No sound in my imovie

I made a little movie with my digital camera.
I imported it into iMovie. Now I want to cut it and insert other things (it's for practising, this is the first movie I'm making).
But there is not sound. I cannot hear me talking. How do I know where to cut it, if I can't hear anything?
This is my second attempt. The first time I just followed the instruction, cut and inserted, added photos, Ken Burns effects, at the end I added sounds. That sound can be heard, but that's it.
So, I decised to start anew. Trying to figure out how I can get my voice heard so I can edit it better. The first time I just cut around, it was not important. This time I want to make it a bit better.
Help?

Hi WolkeSieben - if it is a digital still camera that also makes short video clips, then its format is probably MPEG2, which is not natively compatible with iMovie. You need to convert it to DV format or MPEG4 for the audio to be heard. This needs some other software:
MPEG StreamClip (free):

Apple MPEG2 PlayBack ($20):

  • How do I send only the sound track from iMovie to Media browser?

I need some wild sound for an iMovie 09 project I'm working on in Garageband (working on the soundtrack). I want to take some wild sound from a clip in iMovie and export it to the media browser so that I can use it in the project in Garageband. I detached the audio on the clip in iMovie and tried deleting the video, but it deletes the detached sound as well.
Any tips, tricks, or solutions on sending just the sound from iMovie to the media browser would be much appreicated.
    thanks

With the project open, from iMovie's menu select "Share > Export using QuickTime". For the Export option select "Sound to AIFF". Give it a name and select your Save location. As far as I know, you can't save to the Media Browser as this is contained in the project's package contents folder. So save it to a convenient location (such as your Desktop) and navigate to this from GarageBand. It's probably best if you firstly move the file to, say, your Music folder or iTunes before using it in GarageBand. Otherwise, the links may be lost if you later move it from the Desktop (whereas you are less likely to move it from Music or iTunes).

  • Normalising Sound Levels in iMovie

    Hello,
I have an iMovie project which is a video/audio interview between two people. Unfortunately the interviewer's mic is far quieter than the interviewee's. Is there a way that I can normalise the sound levels within iMovie so that the volume is consistent?
    Thanks!
    Tom Ewer

The only way to do that is, if you have iMovie 11, view the audio levels under the video clips and manually change it each time the people switch talking.

  • Video and sound stutters in imovie project, made up entirely of stills with voice-over and music. I'm using iMovie 9.0.4 on a PowerBook 2GHz running 10.6.8 with 274 GB of space free. Size of project is 588 Gb.

This particular project is made up entirely of still photos with Ken Burns moves and dissolves between each photo. As I got further into the project, the voice over audio started stuttering, and now it hardly plays at all with a motorboat sound when it does play. I've also started added music with the dsame audio problem. I'm running on a Mac PowerBook 2GHz using System 10.6.8. I have IMovie version 9.0.4. The project file size is 588 Mb. I have 274 Gb of hard disc space left. I have shut off all other running programs and even disconnected from the internet, but nopthing seems to help. I acts like it's a memory problem of some sort, but all other applications run fine.

  • Re ilife 11: I bought it so I could manipulate the sound WITHIN an imovie clip. The sound track in imovie 09 fluctuates wildly following export of the movie. It seems that ilife 11 in fact does not have improved controls. Any suggestions?

Can I transfer my files to the apple movie "pro" system instead? I forget what its proper name is. With that programme like the old imovie of '05 approximately, you can grab the sound track within a clip and manipulate its volume up or down.
I need to do that to compensate for the coder problems in imovie 09 and 11 soundtracks.

This can be done quite easily in iMovie '11.
Firstly, click on the waveform icon at the bottom right of iMovie's window (also at the lower right of the Project window) - shown here:
You will see the volume level line within the waveform. For the section you wish to lower the volume, click and drag across the waveform so that it is highlighted with a yellow border. Now you can drag the volume line up and down. See the following example, showing the different volume levels:
TIP: Set the thumbnail slider (next to the waveform icon) to half a second - this will show more detail in the waveform, with each thumbnail representing half a second of video.

  • Apple gives response on sound loss in iMovie '11

I phoned up Apple 'Care' about the reported sound loss/sound syncing when exporting clips.
Apple are not aware of any problems with the sound on the latest iMovie update. He suggested I look at my settings, and "Search on Google".
    Great help.

  • "Newborn" sound track in iMovie - what song is it?

The iMovie sound effects include one called "Newborn".
It's a jazz piano arrangement of some old standard, I think.  But what is the song?
I'm wondering if "Newborn" refers to Phineas Newborn, though the piece doesn't seem to be in his style.
Here's a youTube video with the music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2s1LaIbBFvM
    Thanks!
    Hal

The D. D. Hanke song is based on the Newborn track.  I have found a couple of other instances of this.
Shine Your Light seems unrelated, I agree.
But, just to clarify, I am trying to identify the song being played in the Newborn track itself.  The Newborn track is all jazz piano, so you can't tell what song it is unless you happen to recognize the tune.  I am guessing from the style that it is a song written between say 1920 and 1960.
Is there some way to ask Apple who is playing the Newborn track?  Someone must know that, because Apple bought the rights from that person.
    Thanks!

  • Working with HD content and Milti-Channel Sound AC3 in iMovie 08

I am trying to figure out how to edit video content I exported from a VOB file that the audio is in AC3. I have used tools like StreamClip to export the file into a QT MOV format, but there are no AC3 options. So I DEMUX the audio to AC3 and try to add that to iMovie 08 and still no luck. Looks like 08 does not support m2v format.
What I want to do is I have a number of HD/SD media that all have 5.1 Surround and I am simply wanting to merge them together into one big clip, with maybe some fine tuning of the clip length nothing fancy, but I want to retain the AC3 5.1 Surround sound content. Any ideas? I have FCE will that help me?

I am trying to figure out how to edit video content I exported from a VOB file that the audio is in AC3.
AC3 content is not editable in QT applications.
I have used tools like StreamClip to export the file into a QT MOV format, but there are no AC3 options.
MPEG Streamclip by default down-mixes 5.1 (3/2) AC3 down to stereo. (Other options include: Front Mix, Surround, L/R Ch., Center Ch., LS/RS Ch., and LFE ch. which can then be exported as stereo or mono.)
So I DEMUX the audio to AC3 and try to add that to iMovie 08 and still no luck.
As stated above, iMovie '08 does not support AC3 as a compression format. In addition, iMovie '08 cannot access third-party components so even if you have an AC3/A52 component installed, it will not work. Further, even if it did support AC3 compressed audio, iMovie '08 itself only supports stereo audio.
Looks like 08 does not support m2v format.
iMovie '08 will support M2V video content in an MOV file container if and only if all P- and B-frames have been converted to I-frames making the file equivalent to a Motion-JPEG video clip.
I have FCE will that help me?
    Not Really.
What I want to do is I have a number of HD/SD media that all have 5.1 Surround and I am simply wanting to merge them together into one big clip, with maybe some fine tuning of the clip length nothing fancy, but I want to retain the AC3 5.1 Surround sound content.
In the end, all of the various possible work flows depend on how you plan to play the content. This, in turn, determines which work flow is best suited to your needs. Basically you can convert and then edit in QT editor applications or edit in MPEG Streamclip, (save,) and then convert for a final target use/device.

  • Copy right on sound effects in iMovie

I just got a strange email from youtube. They claim a movie clip of mine contains material which possibly is the property of "GoDigital MG For a Third Party".
I only used sound effects and music from imovie. Isn't this material free to use and publish in my movie clips?
Does anybody know more about this? I cannot find any indication of the copy right inside imovie.
It also states that I don't have to do anything, my clip is still available world wide but they could advertise on my page.
Thanks for any help in advance. If this meant trouble I would remove the clip. Its only a holiday film. Or I would move to Vimeo.
    Cheers
    Chris

  • Sounds disappears in iMovie '11

I'm helping a friend who has iMovie '11.  We took 20 still images and put them into a new iMovie project.  We added sound. (The tune is in iTunes and appears listed in the iMovie window.)
We adjusted timing of images and transitions.  It ran perfectly.  We closed iMovie and opened it a short time later to listen again.  Although the green sound background is present and the tune is listed at the top of the menu, it is not heard.
I checked the Help menu.  It mentioned something about checking a clock to see if the sound had been muted.  We couldn't find any clock icon.
Any ideas of what is going wrong?
    Thanks.
    Mary Lou

I tried your suggestion but I failed to continue holding down the Control key.  When I finallydid a control/click on the green music background and kept that key down, I was able to "delete selection".  Then I reattached the music and it is fine.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How do I import an Amadeus Pro sound file into iMovie?

I am fairly new to the Imovie 08 program and have a few questions.
I've made the moveie and am in the process of editing out what I need and don't need. I have a sound file that I created in Amadeus pro that I need to use as the voice-over for the movie. I just can't figure out how to use that sound file over the movie. Can anyone help?
    Thanks

The sound file must be in a supported audio codec like MP3, AAC, or several others.
Place the sound file in a drive and a folder where you can leave it while your video project is active. If you move it later by using the finder, iMovie will not know how to find it.
Now, drag the file into iMovie and drop it on the first clip where you want it to start playing.
This [Video Tutorial|http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/ilife08.html#tutorial=audioclip s] may help.

  • No sound effects in imovie

I have no sound effects or option to pick from my itunes while in imovie.  I am not sure what is going on.  The whole box is just gray.  Any help would be great!

So, update, I have searched my computer, and apparently the original sounds from ilife sound effects is no longer on my mac... I'm not sure how they were removed, as I never deleted things, only added and moved. Now I have to find out where I can find just the ilife sound effects... maybe a download out there?

  • Why can't I get stereo sound recording to iMovie through audio line in?

I am recording some keyboard music from a digital keyboard (Yamaha pf85) into iMovie HD 6 on my laptop through the audio line in. I have connected Output I from the keyboard to the audio line in using a mini jack adapter. This is supposed to record the music in Mono, but it will only play back on the left side of the spectrum. There is no right side sound at all. The keyboard has twin outputs, so I have also tried connecting Outputs I and II to the laptop's line in, using a twin mini jack adapter, but the music still only plays back on the left side. What's happened to the right side?
I have transferred the movie to my desktop Mac (PowerPC G4 with OS 10.4.11) but I get the same problem.
I've tried exporting the movie to QuickTime, but still the same problem.
What am I doing wrong? How can I record/playback the sound on both sides of the spectrum?

Thanks for these suggestions, which are blinding but have not solved it.
    1) All cables OK and fully inserted.
    2) I tried recording a voice over into iMovie using a USB mic/headset and that was in mono but played back through both channels, so laptop and iMovie are OK recording with USB.
    3) I tried recording from the keyboard into iMovie and QuickTime on the laptop in three different ways through line in: first using both Outputs, then using Output I only and finally using Output II only. On all three occasions, the sound played back on the laptop through the left channel only. The keyboard itself has two inbuilt speakers and a headphone socket and both are providing mono sound through left and right channels, which suggests it's not faulty.
I then tried recording sound only from the keyboard into Quicktime on my desktop Mac, using the same cables and adapter. Left channel only.
I guess this means either the adapter is faulty or it's something to do with the way my keyboard outputs sound. I'll try your other suggestion. Or maybe I just need a hardware interface to route the separate channels. That seems excessive for what I want to achieve.

  • FCP7 Taking an mp3 file (sound effect from imovie library to compressor then import to FCP7

I am clicking and dragging from iMovie sound effects into FCP7 in it's original format mp3 then I am sending it to compressor and using a 48-16 codec
to compress it then I am going back to FCP7 and trying to import it but it does not show up on either my internal drive or external drive. Am I missing something? I have done this all before. Thanks.

    Hi
I'm much more lazy - as I have one way to handle Audio and it always works for my projects.
    • I convert all to .aiff 48kHz 16-bit - or use Audio-CDs .aiff 44.1kHz
Everything I convert to this - by use of the free program - Audacity
or from iTunes - by burning out on an Audio CD (still .aiff - no .mp3 or ect)
These files works greatly in all my Movie/DVD projects.

  • Tweaking sound settings for iMovie HD 6

I just upgraded to the new Intel Core machine and iLife 06. I opened and edited a movie first created in iMovie 5. It upgraded fine and looks fine. When I export to Quicktime (also upgraded to 7 pro) and choose Web Streaming (as I did under iMovie 5), the sound is significantly lower in quality and sounds wavy and full of reverb. I tried to match movie properties from an old movie created with this preset export in iMovie 5 but still could not get the sound right.
Anyone have any tips on how to set Expert Settings to get a similar sized movie (web streaming) but with full quality stereo sound??
    Thanks!
