No sound in os 9.2.2

Hallo everybody,
I have exactly the same problem as "elzef" from France, post: Nov 19, 2005, 12:53PM. I have also tried everything I know to find a solution like zapping the pram, nvram, clean installation on another partition, but in vain. I searched the web extensively and what I gathered is that I must have the exact os 9.2.2 edition that came with the computers like mine(is it right?), because I bought the computer secondhand and this was missing. So I tried to find and buy the disc(s) (ebay and mac software stores), also in vain.
My boot rom is: 4.4.8f2 and maybe it has lost its validation(trying various os 9 editions) but if so how does the computer work ok with os x 10.3.9?
I would be grateful for any help.
My email is: [email protected]
Thank you,
Yannis.

1)Sound is ok when I boot to os x and working either
in os x or in its classic mode.
3)In both above cases I do hear the normal startup
bong.
Ok, that eliminates a problem with the speakers, wiring, or other hardware.
2)When I boot direct to os 9.2.2 I have no sound
regardless of application (neither system platinum
sounds you set from Appearance Control panel)
And since sound works fine in X, but not 9, that narrows it to a device driver or control panel setting.
4)When I open the Sound Control panel in case (2) and
press "input" it displays the message: "The settings
for the sound input source cannot be adjusted because
the device is in use by another application", but I
have checked both foreground and background for
running applications and nothing is on.
4)When I try Quicktime 6.0.3 the message is that I
can't hear the audio of the file because there is no
audio device. Tried other Quicktime versions, the
same.
See what I said about the 3rd party sound card below
9.2.2 installation because on my two installations (one >localized and one international-different hd partitions, os >x another)
As long as they are on different partitions, this should not be a problem.
I used restore and install grey disks and
used also the downloadable upgrades from Apple's site
you mention.
Not a problem there - that's how it should be done
and muting is off. I will check for the spring
contact but I think that something like this would
also affect the sound in os x or no?
No, if sound works in X, then this is not the source of the problem
borrowed a sound card, installed it for a check and
it is recognized ok in os 9.2.2 and os x, so it seems
that os 9.2.2 does not see the machine's own sound
device only.
borrowed a sound card....if the card is still installed, or needed some sort of driver installed, then it's driver could be what is interfering. Remove te card if you haven't already done so, then boot to 9 while holding down the shift key This will turn off all extensions.
If you have sound then, then your problem is an extension conflict, which is easily resolved (but a tedious process)
Alternately, instead of hoilding down shift, hold the spacebar until extensions manager appears, and select Mac OS 9 only. This will turn off all non-apple extensions and device drivers. Close the extension manager. Booting will continue.
Test for sound
Thank you for your effort,
You're quite welcome

  • Lock ups and sound looping!

I remember reading something here about people having trouble with their systems locking up and then getting a loud static noise then a sound loop when playing games.
I am getting this about 2-3 times a night now and it is driving me nuts, I do not have temp problems of any sort and I have all of the latest drivers for everything on my system.
      Any ideas?
    Specs in sig

Set your PCI/AGP Freq to 66.66/33.33MHz.
Increase your DDR Voltage to 2.7~2.8v.
Check if you have any background programs causing all high CPU load times while gaming.

  • My downloaded text sounds do not show up under the sounds tab in settings after installing 8.1.1. can someone help me please?

i downloaded a couple text tones and since installing 8.1.1, they will not show up under the sounds tab. in fact, they do not show up in my recent purchases on itunes, but when i go to buy them again, it says that i have already bought this tone. I just want to use the tones i paid for as the tones on my phone. not asking much.... thanks for the help. i hope someone can help me get the tones working. thank you.

This was happening to me too but only for some of my songs. I have a mac so I dunno about PCs, but for most of my ringtones I had to create an ACC version in itunes to make them short enough then turn that into a m4r and those all worked fine. But if the song was already short enough and I didn't create an ACC version and just turned the original into a m4r, then it wouldn't appear in my itunes.
so if you're on a mac:
    1. go to get info, options, pick when you want the song to start and end.
Has to be pretty short to work, 30 second or less is good
if it's already short enough that's fine
    2. right click and click 'create ACC version'
a copy with the length you put in will appear, drag that into a folder or whatever and just type in m4r where m4a would be
still make an ACC version even if it's the right length
    Hopefully this helps someone else.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Loading sound clips in my swing application

I have searched all the forums, din't find what i want.
I have many small sound files to be played in my application. Even on mouse Pressed, Drage etc etc....
Now I was looking for a better way of Loading the Sound files in memory as the application starts.....
If I use the Clip Interface of javax.sound and initilize them and open a stream, invoke the open() method, and store it in hashmap. So that when ever i need that file i will lookup for that clip and trigger the start() method which actually plays the sound. IS the approach the right approach, will not the Cip object keep the IO handle open, I have nearly 40 Clips to be loaded.
Can any one suggest me the better way of implementing this.
    TIA
    Zoha

As far as I know, there is no facility for detecting mouse scrolling wheel in JDK 1.3.
Check it in the later releases of JDK.

What is your Operating System loaded to your device? Look at Options > Device > About, third line down beginning with a "v.7.0.x.xxx", What is yours?

  • Help with sound to LCD TV when using HDMI

I would love any assistance with a problem I am having. I have a new mac mini with a 40" Proscan LCD. I am using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and am getting great video - 1080. My issue is that via Keynote I need to get sound to the LCD TV. It is coming through the mini speaker - what do I need to do to get the sound over to the TV? Any assistance would be appreciated!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The user guide which came with your TV should cover the issue in the different connections available for your unit.
DVI is video only. HDMI is audio and video. If you are using an adapter to connect DVI to HDMI there is no audio because of this. So to connect a Mac mini with a DVI to HDMI adapter you will also need an audio cable to run the audio from the mini's audio outport to an audio inport on the TV. This is why I refer you to the user guide for your unit, because it should point out the correct port to use on the TV, as well as point out if you have options for using analog or digital audio. The mini's audio ports can do both.

  • Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter problem: no sound.

I couldn't find a more suited thread to discuss my issue so, this can be moved in deemed necessary. I recently purchased a DVI cable, seen below, but all I can get is the video to work. When I use the appropriate yellow cable for sound, the TV won't pick it up. It really seems like this is something that can't be fixed, but I figure it is worth asking about. Thanks.

The yellow cable is likely not an audio cable, but an S-Video cable, useful for some projectors that don't have a VGA or DVI port, or many TVs which only support S-Video. If you want audio separate from the computer, most speaker systems at least support RCA Red/White left/right channel sound into the 1/8th inch audio port found on most Macs. Some Macs and sound software as outlined here offer additional channels for sound:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2458613&#2458613
I've never seen a yellow colored cable used for audio.

  • How to connect sound or audio to my tv using hdmi adapter. I tried to connect thru sound settings but my tv is not found.

how to connect sound to my tv set using hdmi adapter. Im using 2009 macbook pro 13". I went to sound settings then output and it shows internal speaker built- in, it wont locate my tv set. pls. help, thanks

You probably can't because it looks like your MacBook Pro is too old to carry audio over HDMI. You will need to run a separate audio cable from the audio out port on the MacBook Pro to the audio in port on the TV.
Check your MacBook Pro model year against the list in this Apple tech note:

  • What do I need to connect my late 2009 Mac book (mini display port) to the TV and get sound?

    I'm totally confused!
I have a late 2009 model Macbook. And I want to connect it to my TV.
So my research has led to believing I need a Mini display port adapter and a HDMI cable - but from some of what I have read, this won't carry sound...
Can anyone clarify this and what I do actually need?

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with theHDMI.
If you have the Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the MiniDisplay Port there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

  • I have one of the old macbooks and wish to hook it up to my tv. do i need a mini dvi to hdmi adapter plus a 3 rca phono lead with a jack for the sound. please help as im useless at this stuff. cheers

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.

  • I am trying to transfer sound created on a Fantom X7 to my mac and garage band and have gotten so many different directions from others regarding the mode of connection - I am trying to use an interface and usb connection - anybody have advice?

    Good morning!
I am trying to transfer sound from a FantomX7 keyboard synthesizer to garageband  through an interface (MAudio) and with a usb cable.  I see the image of the sound being recorded but I cannot hear anything - I know that there is a speaker button somewhere that must be muted - but I can't find it .  Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong.  thanks, Musicmimi.

  • A FIX for error message: When I try to open Snood (it's a game) I get this message.  Not enough memory {Error # :: 0, in sound.cp@line 101  Can you help?

After years of playing Snood, w/o problems, I started getting this error message, on my iMac, OS 10.5.8,
with 4 GB of memory when opening Snood:  Not enough memory {Error # :: 0, in sound.cp@line 101
My MacBook Pro w. Mac OS 10.6.8 did not have this problem.
Initially I thought that Snood raised its minimum requirement to Mac OS 10.6.
I had several correspondences with Snood. Their tech support is great. Quick and thorough responses.
They thought the issue was in Mac's system preferences/ Sound. It was.
I didn't realize that my sound input and output devices were gone.
The fix was resetting the PRAM. I found this advice on MacFixIt.com.
    MacFixIt help with volume:   http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10415659-263.html
Resetting the PRAM is on Apple support:   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
My sound (music!) is back, along with Snood. So glad I reset the PRAM before reinstalling the OS software!
Thank you to Snood, MacFixIt and Apple.
    Happy new year all!

    Good work, nice post/tip, thanks!

    Cheers lilian

I am experiencing a similar problem in Windows 7 64bit.  Since my laptop has a 128gb SSD, I have loaded my iTunes library on to an external drive.  I can sync my iPhones and iPads from this library, and the songs play fine from those devices.  However, when I select a song from my library, and click the play button, nothing happens.  iTunes does nothing.  I have also tried right-clicking mp3s in my library and selecting "Play", with no results.  I do not receive an error message of any kind.
I have also noticed that some of my mp3's within iTunes denote the Time as 00:00.  The same mp3's will play and register properly using other mp3 players on my computer, and they also play normally on my iPhones and iPads.
I am running Windows 7 x64 on a Lenovo T530, in iTunes 11.1.3.  Everything else in iTunes appears to function normally.  I can listen to internet radio stations without an issue, through iTunes, and they play as they should.  I have tried three different external drives, with different drive formats, and they all have the same issue.  If I copy my iTunes library back to my internal drive, iTunes will play my mp3s.
I did not have this issue with iTunes 10, so I am assuming it is something that has occured within the last few updates.
Has anyone found a fix for this?  Unfortunately, I am forced to use iTunes 11 because of my iOS devices, otherwise I would revert to iTunes 10.

  • Safari and Sound Notifications

    Hey all-
Ive come back to Mac and am struggling with a coupla things.
Safari's been challenging for a couple of good reasons.
I don't see well, so my 15" MBP is usually zoomed in.
When I bookmark a page, I can't see rgw dialog box. so hearing it yawn, or squeal or anything, that'd tell me that the bookmark dialog window loaded and I pressed the button and got the bookmark.
Is there a way to add sound to this "Sphere" that is Safari?
    - A Grateful-
    -John

    Hi John,
Go to this link and click: VoiceOver in action.
    http://www.apple.com/accessibility/voiceover/
VoiceOver offers a screen reading technology that may be helpful to you.
Open System Preferences / Universal Access. Click the "Seeing" tab. Turn on VoiceOver
You can control your Mac using only your keyboard.
You may need someone to assist you in setting this up.
And third party solutions for Accessibility for the Mac OS X here. http://www.apple.com/accessibility/resources/macosx.html
Unfortunately, Safari doesn't support "sound" alerts for Tabs but you can enable system alerts in System Preferences / Universal Access / Hearing. I use the "Flash Screen" 24/7/365.

Hi Brandon045 and welcome to the community,
Is your problem anything like this thread ?
What antivirus are you running?  Any 3rd party firewalls?  You might want to open your resource monitor and see what the processor usage is when this happens.
