No stroke panel in PS 5.5

I am following a tutorial and my photoshop is actting a little strange there is no stroke panel. I know the keybaord shortcut is Ctrl + F10 or Windows, Stroke.
I also can't stroke a circle, by using the path tool.

Are you trying to stroke a path or selection?
The Edit>Stroke needs an active selection and for paths you should be
able to go to the paths panel and from the flyout menu choose stroke path.
If you have a shape layer, then the stroke paths will not work. You can either
save the path, choose a different layer (make a new blank layer) and stroke the path
or use Layer>Layer Style>Stroke on the shape layer.

  • Arrowheads made using Stroke panel break when backsaved as an EPS?

    Hello~!
So I've noticed some fundamental differences between the features that WERE available under the "Add Arrowheads" feature, and the ability to add arrowheads that is now included in the Stroke panel. Insofar as I understand, there was not a way to customize arrowheads under the old "Add Arrowheads" feature; you were limited to the options preset in Illustrator (please correct me if I'm wrong). With the arrowheads under the Stroke panel, I can now customize arrowheads easily and add my own. However, when files are backsaved or opened in more recent versions with the old "Add Arrowheads" feature, they remain "live" so to speak- I can adjust their scale and change arrowheads easily in Appearances-->Add Arrowheads. When I backsave an arrowhead in CS6 down to, say, CS4 or CS3, it "breaks" it- becomes a featureless stroke with an overlapping, arrowhead-shaped path at the end of it. In order to change the arrowhead, I have to remove this path, re-add the arrowhead using the Stroke panel, adjust the length of the stroke again, adjust the scale again, etc.
I'm assuming this is because the Stroke version of adding arrowheads wasn't available in these previous versions of Illustrator, but is there a way to somehow trick Illustrator into keeping these arrowheads "live" so that I can adjust them simply even if they're backsaved? Alternatively, is there a way to access the old Add Arrowheads option and customize it without having something from an older file handy?
    Thanks

The old arrowheads effect is only present when you open a legacy file (you can then access it in the appearance panel). Maybe you could create a graphic style and re-use that in CS6.

  • CS3 InDesign Stroke panel not showing

    I use CS3 on a MacPro.
I've just found that the Stroke panel does not show in InDesign, so I cannot add or change the stroke on graphics.
Unlike all [as far as I've explored so far] the other Window options, when I click on Stroke I do not get a full panel of options, only a thin (vertical) bar –presumably the left and right sides of the panel, collapsed together.
This has never been a problem before and it happens in any choice of Workspace.
    Any ideas, PLEASE?
    Mike

    Thanks Peter
Sorry I didn't spot that your first message was a link to a solution.
It worked fine. (I moved InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData to a temporary folder on the Desktop, started up InDesign again, and Stroke panel worked again. I was also relieved to find that, for instance, my Character and Paragraph Styles weren't lost, nor my Workspaces of choice. Without exploring too closely, all I've noticed is that Open Recent files have gone, which is absolutely no problem.
    Thanks again.

  • Where is the stroke panel?

Using CS4 on a Mac.  Says go to Window--> Stroke Panel. Ain't no such thing. No panel. Nada. Not there. Gone.
Can anybody tell me where it is?

Odd that it would have that instruction.
The stroke properties are set in the Properties panel. In CS3 they're the third set from the left.

  • How to show all Stroke Panel options?

    Hey everyone!
So I've been working on an architecture project and just transferred my project to Illustrator CS6 from Rhino. Basically what I need is to change certain lines to thinner, dashed, and different spacing. Now, I've used Illustrator multiple times before on other computers, so I knew that to do this I needed to go to the Stroke Panel and change the settings there. Simple enough. HOWEVER. The only option showing in my stroke panel is Weight. No dash options, no spacing options, nada.
Can anyone help? I tried looking in window options, View options, and absolutely nothing seems to work. Every tutorial I saw for changing line weights/dash/space/etc shows it the same way: in the Stroke Panel. Mine just seems to be the only one in the entire world that doesn't want to give me these options.
    Thanks so much in advance!!
    -Shelly.

Use the popup menu at the upper right of the Stroke Panel and choose "Show Options".

  • Missing stroke panel - Mac InDesign CS6 (8.0.2)

Can't remember when I last needed to apply a stroke to an object but I've found today that I have no stroke panel. I've tried deleting prefs as variously described but that hasn't helped. Where can it be hiding?
    Help!
    Thanks.

Thanks for the fast response. I have try all of the Workspace options, but nothing seemed to open up the stroke tools. I went ahead and cleared my preferences and jumped into Edit>Menu and made sure all was set to "visibility". I'm still missing the "stroke" tools which normally are listed under Window>Stroke. Got anymore ideas?

  • Stroke panel alignment options inaccessible - prior forum solutions haven't solved it.

I've created a closed shape with the pen tool. No fill, just a stroke. I want to change the stroke alignment from Center Alignment, but in the Stroke panel, alignment settings are greyed out for Align Inside and Align Outside. I read related questions and answers in these forums but they didn't solve my problem. My closed shape is closed and is not a group or part of a group. "The devil's in the details!" Thanks for your help!

    Babington,
Failing other solutions, you may try the list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Is it possible to "stroke path" Like in photoshop?

I mostly use photoshop for lineart on some pictures I do but the biggest problem is that the lines are not really smooth. I want to
Use Illustrator just to ink the pen tool paths and then return it to photoshop to color. Here I'll make more sense of it,
This is a recently finished picture I did using the Pen tool traced on top of a sketch I
scanned. Doing a bit of research, I found out how to move the path to Illustrator giving me
    this:
I want to know if there is any way I could do something similar to "Stroke path" in Illustrator
so that I could get this picture done with crisper lines and if not, what is the best way to go about
    doing it?

This is very basic  but for the time being
while you have your path selected you select in the tool panel the Stroke proxy so it is in the front then select a color either with the swatch panel or the Color Panel or the by double clicking the stroke panel to access the color picker.
You will find thyat it might be better to do this type of work in Illustrator that in Photoshop you can use Illustrators pen tool to make the paths and you can a have a stroke as you draw so you can see what ypou arre doing
here is the stroke proxy the fill proxy is the solid square for filling the path with color
read about fills and strokes in the help files

  • Dotted line not working on stroke with a 0pt dash

I'm having a problem created a dotted line in Illustrator CS5 using the technique of selecting a dashed stroke and setting the dash length to 0pt.
Instead of dots, I'm getting dashes with rounded ends as shown in the image below.
I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but, please, let me know what it is.

I can't remove the second 0pt for dash. Once anythiong has been entered into this field, I can then only set it to 0pt.
The second part of your answer works (as a work around I guess). Thanks very much for that, I just didn;t think of it.
Why is it that I can't delete the entry in the second dash field? I select it, delete, press enter, but when I open the stroke panel, it's there as 0pt. If I select it, delete it, then tab to the next field, it fills it in with 0pt.

  • Stroke width profile doesn't mirror automatically

I can't believe Illustrator doesn't do this automatically. If you create a stroke profile on one side of the stroke by holding Alt/ Option while dragging with the Width Tool and then mirror the object, the stroke profile doesn't mirror accordingly. You have to go to the Stroke panel and click one of the flipping buttons for each stroke of the mirrored artwork. This makes mirroring complex artwork very time consuming. Mirroring with transform effect doesn't have this problem but this makes the usage and editing of the mirrored object a pain.
I'm just posting this before making a feature request in case I'm missing something. And to check if this problem has been already raised and the feature request made.
    Using CS5

Don't believe you missed anything. The Effect Outline Object & Outline Stroke interestingly did not work either, unless you outline the stroke which defeats the purpose of keeping the path profile dynamic.

  • How to make different stroke widths like CSS can?

With CSS, it's easy to specify border-top, border-right, etc. Is there a way to do this (on basic rectangles) with InDesign? I think it could be a very useful feature. I realize this might require a wholly separate panel than the existing Stroke panel.

This **is** possible in Final Cut Pro X, isn't it? Or will I need to buy some sort of add-on to do this?
If you want DIY, edit a still into the timeline. Option drag (to duplicate) the clip to the layer immediately above the primary storyline; repeat 3 more times so you have 4 identical clips connected to the original clip on the primary storyline.
For each clip, select, and resize with the transform function. Reposition as necessary. Either keyframe the moves into the correct position in the frame or keyframe the opacity if you want them to appear sequentially.
If you want to do it with a plug-in you might look art this or this.

  • Why does my shape change when I change stroke attribute?

    Hello,
I am having problems with my vector shapes automaticly changing shape (the position of every point that makes up the shape) when I increase the weight of the stroke or at color of the stroke. I hope that is clear.
For example: I have a Circle, then I change the weight of the stroke by clicking up on the arrows in the stroke dialog box. Every click up or down moves each point in a different direction. By the time I settle upon the weight I want, the shape is no longer a circle, but a abstract ameba shape.
Can anyone lend me some wisdom for what I can do to fix this problem?
    Thanks a ton!

You select only part of the path instead of all of the path, that is some anchor points are selected, solid, as opposed to active but not selected outlined.
Option clickon the path withthe direct select tool or click on the center point to select the whole path with the direct selet tool or use the selection tool or drag a marquis with a selection tool to select the path and the anchor points
now you can move it with the arrow keys
oh I see you want to change the stroke weight you need to have the cursor active in the Stroke panels weight field in order for the weights to change so first select the path then click in the weight field of the panel.

  • Outline Stroke in cs4 adds unwanted duplicate/overlapping point, why?

When I create an outline of a line, say a simple 2 point straight line, I get the result of a filled 4 point rectangle, or so it would seem. When I individually drag each point out using the direct selection tool I find that there are actually 5 points - 2 are sitting on top of each other. Does anyone else have or has had this problem.

This is fixed in CS 5.
Notice that the stroke panel's drop down now reads mm when you set strokes to mm
Notice that the stroke panel's drop down now reads mm when you set strokes to mm
So there are improvements in CS 5 that have never been resolved in the past.
Even in CS 10 I believe the drop down still reads as points and sets the width of the strokes as points and then converts it.
So there has been a lot of hard work.
