No VGA input

Compter model - HP Pavilion GG646AA
Operating System - Windows Vista 32-bit
Error message - on monitor, no VGA input
Any changes made - no changes made
I've looked on the internet and it seems like I'm not the only HP user to encounter this problem. Any way in solving this problem?

Do u know what monitor this system is tied to for the screen message?
not sure if the monitor is VGA only, or the system is VGA only…
If the monitor shows an error message it means the monitor is basically working. You can try the same monitor on another computer, or try another monitor on the same computer. If you have something else available.
Troubleshooting No Video or No Signal Detected is probably the most difficult thing if you are not sure if either the PC or Monitor are good.

  • Macbook Pro mini-DisplayPort to VGA input on a VIZIO SV422XVT

I am attempting to use my Vizio SV422XVT with my MacBook Pro via the VGA input. I've followed KatanaBook's advice in this post, but I still can't get it to function correctly.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12380071#12380071
I've created a custom resolution using SwitchResX with the parameters specified in the SV422XVT manual, but I still get a 'no signal' response on the TV.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

ARiccitelli, have you tried running the [Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter firmware update|http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mini_DisplayPort_to_VGA_FirmwareUpdate] to ensure that your adapter has the latest firmware revision?
I don’t have a Vizio monitor, so I can’t offer any advice regarding it; is your adapter known to work with other VGA-compatible monitors at your preferred color depth, resolution, and refresh rate?

  • Connecting my Mac Mini DVI video output to Dell W3706MC LCD TV VGA Input

I tried connecting my mac mini to the Dell W3706MC LCD TV VGA input but it wanted me to change the resolution of the mac to 1360 x 768 at 60 Hz. I did that but it still would not display the video. I tried my PC laptop and that worked fine with different resolutions. So I know that there is nothing wrong with the TV. Did anyone experience this same problem?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Karl

I'm confused about your comment "it wanted me to change the resolution of the mac to 1360 x 768 at 60 Hz." I presume the way this was communicated was through a dialog box, correct? But if you could see a dialog box, that means you had a working screen at one point, correct? Why don't you just run at that resolution?

  • IPad 2 + AV Adaptor + older TV with VGA input. Can I mirror?

I have an iPad 2 (iOS 5.1), the Apple AV Adaptor and an older tv with VGA input.
    Option A
Can I mirror to the tv using a HDMI to VGA cable - something like this or this ?
    Would this work?
    Option B
Or do I totally ignore the AV Adaptor and buy the Apple VGA Adaptor and a VGA cable?
Then do I also need a cable for sound? What do you call it?
Has anyone used Option A and has it worked?
I would obviously prefer Option A as I already have the AV Adaptor.

The two cables you linked to are both passive and are only meant for PC cards with digital(!) signal output on VGA. That is, in your case, they won't work.
The easiest and cheapest way is purchasing the VGA adaptor. HOWEVER, it won't let you 1, charge your iPad while playback, 2, play back DRM'ed movies (ones that you purchased from iTunes Store).
If you want to stick with HDMI (see the two problems above), you'll want to go for an active HDMI -> VGA converter. I've purchased the one at http://www.dealextreme.com/p/hdmi-to-vga-video-converter-71816 and found it, for the price, excellent. If you don't want a converter with a power cord, let me know and I list other (but more expensive) converters.

The one you are looking at I believe is an older model and does not have very good reviews for working with an AppleTV2 / iPad 2 setup.
Here is the one that has worked for our district:

I can't say if the one you are referring two works or not, however I can say that based on the reviews, it looks like you may run into problems with the $45 version.

  • tv vs. VGA input

I was thinking of getting an TV but seems like the only feature I will be using is the ability of watching movies and listening to music housed on my laptop wireless on my TV.
I have a W series Sony Bravia (direct connect to the web) as well as a PS3 so all the other features the TV offers I already get.
Is there anything I'm missing that would make the TV worth getting over just getting a Mini DVI --> VGA cable?
    Thank you for any input.

Thanks. Really only wanted it to watch videos I have on my macbook on the tv. The rentals and HD movies I can already do on the PS3 so that would just be more of the same thing.
    Thanks again for your input.

  • Toshiba vga output to lg vga input flashing issue

I did a vga output from my toshiba satellite L355D-S7901 to my LG tv and it works fine for the most part, but I have periodic flashing on the tv when I'm watching video or anything else. How can I correct this issue?

    Welcome to the forum.
I'm responding to this because no one else has so far, not because I have experience with what you want to do in connecting a T61 to a TV.
First, yes a T61 can play downloaded videos. If for some reason you have problems with playing specific videos I'd suggest you install VLC media player for Windows. This software can play virtually all audio and video formats. It's never let me down.
Now as to connecting the T61 to a TV, there are adapters that go from a USB port on the T61 to an HDMI port on the TV. Here's one example, IMAGE Lenkeng LKV325 USB to HDMI Adapter Converter with 3.5mm Audio Cable. You can buy similar adapters at Best Buy etc. so you might want to bring your T61 to the store and make sure the adapter works before you buy it. In particular you will need to ensure that you have a 3.5mm audio input on your TV (or AV receiver, etc.) If not you'll have to rely on the built-in speaker in the T61 which may not be ideal.
You will also need standard HDMI and 3.5mm audio cables to go from the adapter to the TV. These are available in many lengths, e.g. 3', 6', 10' etc.

  • TV not recognizing VGA input

I have this TV hooked up to my Arch machine and whenever I run xrandr the computer sees the output. The problem is, the TV is not recognizing any input so I can't change into VGA. Arch even detects the correct resolution and when I hook up a Debian machine it displays image with no problem.

Look into your TV manual for the supported resolutions
I had a experience a while back with a TV at my wife parents place where xrandr said that 1980x1080 (fullHD) was a supported resolution, but the screen just went blank. When I consulted the manual, I found out that the maximum supported resolution was in fact, 1366×768 (WXVGA), which worked almost perfectly (there was a missing pixel column on the right side, not too much of a trouble).
Short version: Check the TV specs, xrandr sometimes lies.

  • VGA Input error

    Hello,
I had a picture fall on the top of my tower. Now I am receiving an error from my monitor saying no signal from the VGA port. I have plugged the tower into anot her monitor using the DVI port and I received the same error. The green LED by the power supply is solid and the fan is running. The LED by the ram cards is also solid. The start-up sounds initiate when you hit the power switch. The power switch's blue led light does not come on. I am assuming the video card or motherboard is damaged. Does anyone have experience with this problem so I can get a start of were to troubleshoot this.
    Thank You,

  • Apple TV to VGA input video projector-what do I need

    Please help.
My understanding is that the Apple TV has HDMI output.  I want to hook it up to a video projector that only has VGA in.  Someone told me that all I need is a simple inexpensive HDMI to VGA cable.  Then I read something that seems to comflict with this.
Please clarify.  Is the simple inexpensive cable all I need, or is there something else I need?
Thank you very much for your help.

There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p.

  • I am looking into buying a used monitor to connect to my macbook. Does anyone know if multicav monitors with a vga input work with macbooks?

I have found a Multicav 22 inch LCD monitor for sale but have never heard of multicav before and was wondering if anyone had any experience connecting a multicav monitor to their macbook.

You will need an adapter. This model should do it for your MacBook.
    Best of luck.

  • IMac to extrernal VGA tv input.

I own a iMac 27" and would like to connect a small tv that i own. Its a Polaroid 15" Tv with an D-Sub (VGA) input. I have bought the mini display to vga adaptor and a male to male vga cable. Hooked it all up and cannot get the iMac to detect the display. I have tried using the vga cable on other monitor and it works (so it is not the cable). I have also tried using the mini display adapter on another mac and it works (so it is not the adapter). I have the TV set to D-SUb source and it says 'no input signal'. I have tried putting the imac to sleep, restarting it, shutting it off and turning it back on. I have read many different posts about iMac not detecting external display but nothing has solved my problem. Any one have any ideas?

The Mini DisplayPort connector does not carry the signal needed for composite output. So while it does work on a computer display that uses VGA (as you proved to yourself), that older TV probably needs the composite signal that is not present. If you used a second adapter that went from VGA to RCA (or S-Video), then connected it to the TV, it would not work for the same reason.
There is a rather long topic thread about how you can do it, but it is not very elegant
