No Video in Premiere CS4

Hi all, i'm using Premiere Pro CS4 in a C2D 2.8GHz with 4GbRAM running Windows Vista Bussines
the problem is that when I import a video i can hear it, but i can't see it in my playback, i put it in the time line but all i get is a "green" screen.
i capture the video in question with my old Sony D8 using Premiere Pro CS2, the question is that i can't see any video, .AVI, . MOV, .WMV...no one, can somebody plz helpme?

Hi Bill,
I agree, it is somewhat frustrating...but then, we didn't know when we got these
laptops for the boys, that he'd take such an avid interest in editing.
Had we known then, I'd have been more careful about the specs.
The CS4 suite installed on the desktop without incident...at first, the display in
the edit window was there, but was comprised of overly bright pastel colors when
playing. I was able to get a driver update (the whole Catalyst bundle actually)
from the ATI web site, and the color is now correct.
He hasn't yet tried it with the footage from his camera...too busy with Easter
goings on this evening...but I imported one of the sample videos that come with
Windows to test it.
Although the color is correct, playback isn't smooth...the video will occasionally
pause, while the audio continues. I'm thinking I may need to bump the RAM up
from the current 2 Gigs to 4, and see if that doesn't help. The desktop is older
(circa 2006), a Dell Dimension E510. According to the specs, I can only put 4
Gigs in it. Luckily, ram is no where near as expensive as it once was. I priced
compatible ram at Crucial, at it was about $31 per Gig.
To Diego, who asked me to let you know if this works...yes, the video is now
present, and the colors are accurate by virtue of the upgraded ATI driver. Once
I manage to get the playback to stop pausing, I believe he will be good to go.
Thanks,
Bob

  • How to import youtube video into premiere cs4

I installed adobe premiere cs4 and was really astonished by the fact that it's not possible to import a video downloaded from YouTube, but it is needed to convert it firstly. This application is weight about 3GB on my hard disk and now I must search for a plugin to import a video from YT.
It would be perfectly if i could download a video directly into premiere, and also upload finished file up to youtube.
The only result of my search is a paid plugin named moyea-importer - USD 70, but it seems  it works only with earlier versions of premiere, before cs4.
Is there any free plugin for this task. Or any similar solution.
If not - in which format should I download youtube video, in which format should I convert it (what is the best converter for that) to make it editable in premiere.
    Working on win xp sp3.
    Thanks.

    Also, CS4 has a different forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/premierepro_previous?view=all
Maybe a MOD will come along and move this discussion to the correct forum
As Mark says, CS4 is old... and CS5 and later were complete rewrites of the source code, to be 64bit instead of 32bit, so internal operations are not the same

  • Getting 16bit video into Premiere CS4

Bear with me, as I'm sure I am a super noob. I went and did a bad thing...I think. I told a non-profit that I would make a video for them to sell for charity. The video is going to be a combo of video, stills, etc and I went ahead and shot all videos with my Nikon D90 camera. Settings were apparently set to standard and then I went out and picked up Premiere CS4 to take the video to the next level. I come to find out the video was taken in 16bit NTSC format and the program wants a minimum of 32. Is there anything I can do to get the videos I have into the Premiere workspace to create my video? Is it possible to up-convert? I've read about converting to TIF files, but I am going to need the audio off the video as well. I have to think there is a way around this somehow.
If you have any input whatsoever, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm behind schedule as it is and this is only setting me back further. Really hoping there is a quick fix out there. *crosses fingers*

I'm not even seeing MJPEG as an option when I start a new project.  Does that mean I do not have a proper CODEC installed?
How does MPEG Streamclip stack up against the two you mentioned?
    Thanks again!

  • Batch export of multiple clips from one video in Premiere CS4

    Hello,
I'm really in a bind and hope you guys can help me out. I have about 30 hours of video in about 30 mpg files..1 hour in each video. I need to splice out small clips from each video..anywhere from 10 to 20 clips in each and send them to Media Encoder to store as video files I can then re-use. In CS3 I can do this manually one clip at a time ..set In point, Out point and then export. This however takes a very very long time....set the ins/outs, then export, then wait, then repeat..very tedious
In CS4 can i set multiple ins/outs for the entire video and then have premiere go to work and do a batch export? Or is there another way of doing this? I have about a week left to get this done and at a total of about 450 clips to export each 2-5 mins for encoding this will take forever...plase help!
    Stan

It wont do exazctly what you want but.... But the batch encoding should save you some time since you can continue to work while it encodes/exports.
Do you need to make more than one output type? Like DV, WMV, FLV... for each one? If so, I suggest this workflow:
    1. Open source file 1 in Source monitor set in and out, ctrl drag subclip to a folder in the project panel.
    2. Repeat step 1 for any other subclips needed from source clip 1
    3. When done with first source clip go into bin where you put your subclips click on them one at a time and do export/media to your lowest compressed need (like DV AVI for example); it will be added to AME queue
    4. Repeat step 3 for all subclips, then click start queue.
    5. While AME is exporting all the subclips for your first source clip, repeat steps 1-3 on source clip 2...
When you are all done; if you need to make multiple output types for each file; Do (IN AME) File>New>Watch Folder
Create a Watch folder for each output type you want. Then simply copy all the exported clips you want inot each of these folders and AME will process them all for you in batch.
It doesnt do exactly what you wished for; but should save you a few buckets of time.

  • Cannot play video in Premiere CS4

    Hello,
I've been using Premiere for a while now and started not being able to play videos. This happens both in the source monitor and on the time line, opening a file from a project or from media browser. The moment I press play it stops right away. However I can scrub through the whole video without a problem. Tried with avchd files, avi files, mp4 files, mpg etc. old DV avi files, happens with all of them.
I don't know if this problem started after I got the latest Windows updates. But I removed them and I still had the problem. Then I reformatted the computer and installed Adobe CS4 from scratch, still can't play the videos. I have the latest 4.2.1 update on Premiere. But the problem was there when I was on version 4.2 as well.
    My setup is
    Vista 64-bit
Operating system on 120GB flash RAID drive
    Projects on 600GB second drive
Video files on 2TB third RAID drive
Disks are half way used and defragmented often.
    12GB RAM
I have the latest Quicktime. And I'm able to play all my video files fine with Quicktime, WMP and VLC Player. Also videos play fine in After Effects (version 9.0.2). Any help will be extremely appreciated.
    Regards,
    Yas

Did you happen to do a bios update at about the same time you did the windows update ?  If your mobo has "onboard" graphics ability maybe your bios isn't recognizing your card all of a sudden...
Check in your " My computer / manage / device manager " if your display adapter (graphics card) is being recognized...
Try to update the drivers from THAT ( right click the card name and update drivers option )
boot into bios and double check that your card is being recognized in the correct slot ( eg   pci-e ) with the right onboard mem

  • Best Video Card for non 3d/compositing work in Premiere CS4?

Hi all, I'm looking to optimize my system where I can to speed up the editing process. I edit 1080p footage from the Canon 5D MKII (h.264 MOV files)using half-res h.264 proxies, but CS4 seems to hang a lot in the timeline view and clips just disappear and instead show green. I'm switching to half-res MPEG-2 (.m2v) proxies now and so far that problem seems to have gone away (still testing), but when timeline display quality is at "High Quality" (vs. automatic) there's still some chop during slow pans (not seen with "Automatic" or "Draft Quality").
Anyway, I'm looking for the weakest point in my system and suspect the video card. My system is an 2.66 i7 processor, 6GB 1333 ram, 1x160GB sata II HD (OS/Apps), 3x1TB SATA II RAID 0 (paging file, data), and an $80 ATI 4650 512 MB video card running Vista 64.
So all that said, what's the best general graphics card for editing HD video in Premiere CS4? I don't care about 3d or compositing at this stage, just basic editing of unrendered (timeline playback) HD video, maybe sometimes 1-3 HD layers, some basic color correction effects (b+w, contrast, etc), dissolves, text overlay, some clip speed manipulation.
Many seem to recommend the Nvidia quadro cards, but I haven't found any information to suggest they help with anything other than 3D/compositing, which I don't need (and therefore don't need to pay the premium).
There's also the Nvidia CX card, but it's main feature is touted as encoding h.264, whereas I could care less about that and ideally need decoding of h.264 in the timeline to be better. I haven't seen any great reviews on this card of heard of average user testimonials, probably because it's $2k and it mainly marketed as "zoom more fluidly in photoshop, export h.264 4x faster", which seem like minor issues vs. "better realtime playback of HD video".
I sort of rambled, but if any informed CS4 users can help answer the question regarding the best video card for general CS4 editing use (not 3d/compositing stuff) I'd love to get more insight.

So in Media Encoder CS4, I tried encoding one of the clips that plays back the least smooth in the Premiere timeline (a slow pan across intricate patterns on a sand dune in death valley) to the following:
Format: P2 Movie, Preset: DVCPRO HD 720P 30
(this was the only format in media encoder that mentions DVCPRO HD)
I noticed when trying to customize the setting, that there is no 30 fps option, just 23.976, 29.97, and 59.94. I just went with 29.97 as that was the closest to the 30 fps of the source MK II footage. The width and height were also unajustable at 960x720 for the DVCPRO HD format.
Playing the output in the timeline view of Premiere was comparable in smoothness to the m2v file. I looked at my resource monitor during playback looking for bottlenecks, and the CPU does seem to spike at 100% initially when playing this clip back. I reverted to the m2v version and also saw the same CPU spike. I also reverted back to the down-res'd mp4 version, same spike. Moving display quality down to draft does allow for smooth playback here.
So I guess there's something about this clip that is CPU intensive to play back in the timeline in any of these formats. The original 1080p version plays back perfectly in both quicktime and VLC player.
Anyway, for now I think I'm content with using the m2v proxies as a big chunk of the clips are fairly smooth, and using a reduced quality display mode for clips that don't play as smoothly is accpeptable for now. At least so far I'm not seeing the hanging/video not displaying (and instead showing a green screen) that I was with the mp4 proxies.
If anyone has any other suggestions as to how to get smoother timeline playback for these proxies (or the original h.264 .MOV files), however, whether it be a hardware upgrade (e.g. better video card) or a different proxy codec, I'd love to hear them and give it a shot.

  • Problems With Camptasia AVI File in Premiere CS4

    Hi everyone,
I need help with the creating a video in Premiere CS4 using some Camptasia AVI files. I have used Camptasia to include a voice-over into a presentation and then saved it as an AVI file. I was able to include that AVI file into my Project in CS4 and edit it there adding to video files transferred from the camera. The problem came up when I tried to export the CS Project as an AVI or FLV file. It does not save the entire video but rather saves only the first couple of minutes of it. Can someone recommend me what to do?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Bahar

The problem is in the file itself. You set up your project in premiere at 30fps and imported file from camtasia studio does not have that frame rate. Camtasia does not have a good and fast enough codeck that would record 30fps. So premiere will try to recompress your file to proper structure with 30fps thus will give you the output of a very short file.
Camtasia have another software that is designed to capture needed frame rate but it is available only to the big companies.
I have tried this soft and ran into this problem and camtasia replied to me whit statement that this soft is not designed to capture full frame rate video.

  • Premiere CS4 horrible stutter (ATI Radeon 5750 as problem?)

Hello! I've just come across a very frustrating problem. When I try to edit videos with Premiere CS4, the preview speed is horribly laggy. It doesn't matter what I edit, HD or SD, it is just stuttering so that any work is merely impossible.
The funny thing is, that I have been able to edit even very heavy HD-projects without problems in past with same system. I had 3-4 months pause from video editing, and something has happened in that time. I remember updating ATI drivers in that period so it might be the cause. Or not. Nothing major has changed, I've installed some regular OS updates and thats it. No hardware changes or anything like that.
I have read about compatibility issues with Radeon 5750 and Premiere CS4 in Windows 7 (64bit). So I thought this would be proper area to start looking into. I would like to see if there is something new where to look at before I have to format my whole drive and install everything again. Which is pain because I have no other problems with my system.
I've already tried ATI rollbacks, various driver versions and system restore. Nothing has helped. I also tried same drivers which I knew for sure that were installed and worked last time I succesfully edited something. No use. I've yet not tried installing Premiere again, and I would not happily do it because very buggy licensing system (I have licensed retail version) which can kill the whole CS product family. I rather format the whole OS drive.
Is there any first hand knowledge on this, or any suggestions?

  • Premiere CS4 unlinking and ungrouping video on close

I'm working on a video editing terminal running Premiere CS4 v4.2.1. You can do any sort of grouping, linking or unlinking of video clips that you want, but as soon as you close the program (and then go back to it later), all of the clips are unlinked from their respective components (audio and video are unlinked) and any groupings you made are now gone.
What's weird, though, is any clip that you don't touch (ie you don't group it with something else) is fine when you reload the project (the audio and video clips are still linked together like they should be, but ONLY if it wasn't grouped).
All the video is on the local, internal hard drive. The scratch disks are also on the internal hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
    Any ideas?

  • Premiere CS4 effect switch for each video channel

    Premiere CS4
    Windows
    Gentlemen !
Does anyone know if there is a Master Effect Switch for each individual video channel
What I am saying is, is there any way to turn Off or On the effect for each individual video channel
Let's say I wanna turn Off all video effects for video channel 1
Just similar to the icon of the eye or lock for each channel
I have about 40 clips on channel one's timeline , I wanna turn all effect Off for a minute, check something the turn it back On !
    Thanks

With the Nested Sequences, turning thing OFF for performance would be easy, but Nesting does take some additional Resources.
For a Feature Request, see this LINK.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
BTW - some Effects hardly seem to slow things down, while some are quite resource heavy. For playback, Rendering the Timeline normally makes things very smooth, at the expense of the time to Render.

  • Premiere CS4 won't play any video - Overlay?

Hi, since installing Prem CS4 on Windows 7 when I try to play video through premiere the audio is fine but the video won't stays at a frozen frame. If I scroll the timeline the video moves through but doesn't play at all in the preview bin or in the main source window. All clips play in media player perfect and before with XP. It feels like an graphics overlay sort of problem, I have a Nvidia quadro FX 500 witht the latest drivers upgraded by Windows 7 but don't see any overlay settings in or out of premiere. Any suggestions?
    thanks guys

    Magic Hat,
Glad that you got it sorted. I've found that sometimes just asking a question immediately leads me to the answer - even before a response. I saw this all of the time in civil engineering. Just walking into another office to ask the question, often lit the lightbulb.
Good luck, and unfortunately, you can't award yourself "points" for the correct answer.

  • Problems with Premiere CS4 video

Just purchased Premiere CS4.  When I import video (avi or mpeg), what appears in the preview monitor or the timeline monitor is greatly distorted.  Audio is great, it's just the video that I'm having trouble with.  Running it on XP with 3.4 GB of memory.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

So would some information. AVI and MPEG mean nothing, they are just containers that can hold anything from scrap metal, toxic chemicals, food, clothing, electronics, spare car parts, tapestry or God knows what. Unfortunately PR can only handle certain contents, so you need to know what codec is used.
Look here and answer at least the 16 questions at the end of the Wiki article: Some suggestions

  • What video codecs can be used with Premiere CS4?

What video codecs can be used with Premiere CS4?  Or are there to many to list?  I'm looking for a solution to import a .AVI file created with a H.264 codec.

PrPro can work with so very many, but certainly not all. Some, like DivX will work for Export, but I have never gotten good Import of that material - always something wrong somewhere.
For H.264, there are three very popular versions: Apple, Lead and MainConcept. The Apple version installs with later versions of QT Player, the other two are available, and many users like them better. They solve some H.264 problems, mainly with Export.
