Nokia C7 Phone Start-Up Failed

A good friend of mine has a Nokia C7.  He and I both used to use SPB Mobile Shell, but I no longer do.  However, my friend is still using the SPB software.
Sometimes when my friend turns on his phone, the usual Nokia information appears, then the "loading" message that SPB is being loaded, and then he gets a message:
Phone Start-Up Failed.
Contact the retailer
From searching the forums, I'm pretty sure this is a Nokia message, and not something from SPB.
People suggested removing the memory card, but this phone doesn't have a memory card.
Other people suggest a "three-finger reset".
I have just asked my friend to remove the battery for a few minutes, then re-start the phone.  I don't know yet if this will help.
My next option would be to remove the SPB software, but from what I'm reading, this is not likely to be the problem - and my friend still relies on the SPB Mobile Shell for daily use.
My last option is the three-finger reset.  What they suggested was "Hold Menu Key,Volume Down Key,Camera Key and press the switch on button (power button) and when your phone vibrates release the switch on button (power button) and keep holding the Menu Key,Volume Down Key,Camera Key and wait for a while and your phone will be as good as new".  If I do the three-finger reset, is this going to remove all the data on his phone, so I need to set everything up for him again?

My C-7 has the same problem. I'm not surprised since thousands of this handset (along with the N8) are also affected.
This is a design-defect problem that NOKIA recognizes but refuses to address properly   By purchasing this handset we have all thrown our money to the winds. We are not alone; Considering NOKIA's current stock price nose-dive, the company's shareholders are in the same boat.
This is an absolute travesty. Were it not for NOKIA's "killer application" (its off-line turn-by-turn mapping program, of course), I would have jumped ship long ago. Although I feel very sorry for myself for having bought such a problematic device, I feel much worse for the employees of NOKIA (at least for those who still remain employed after the recent mass purgings in a desperate attempt by the C-levels to keep the company afloat). Surely they must also be able to see the writing on the wall indicating that their time is nearly up  The company will go under.
Horrible product quality, arrogant refusal to properly address the defects, oblivious attention to the market and an unfathomable and highly misguided sell-out to Microsoft has turned this once great company into a puddle of mush, slowly seeping into the cracks of the floor over which Samsung and Apple now gleefully dance.
Shame, Nokia. Shame.
* By the way: If you want to breath life back into your C-7 or N-8, charge the beast and then place it into the freezer for a few minutes. Since the root problem is due to overheaded boards, this action will quite surprisingly, cool the unit back down to whence it will once again start.

Just like to say thank you for the key combination for formating the 7610. My 7610 froze few days ago. Asked local phone shop to re-flash software to get it goin again and it didna help. The code of green button, star and number 3 and powerin on worked a treat. So thanks to the genius who found it.

  • Nokia E90 -Phone start-up failed. Contact the Reta...

Hi, I updated the software through PC and did a backup before doing so. After updating and restoring I got the message above. I sent phone to Service Provider who kept it for 5 weeks and upon return when I restored, I got exactly the same message.
Is there any way to sort this out without going through the Service Provider again?????????
Thanks in anticipation of all useful responses

Hi, that happens for restoring "settings" option of the backup from an older firmware version to a recent firmware version.
Remove the batery, press * 3 green key and click the on/off button, keep pressing the 3 keys until you see the hands from start up.
I hope the backup your talking about was made in PC Suite Content Copier. When you restore the backup, remove the "Settings" check box before you restore, that should be enough.
If you made a backup from "memory" menu in your phone to the memory card, you will not be able to restore the backup, because it will always take you back to the "contact the retailer" error.
    Good luck, regards,

  • Nokia 5800XM says: "Phone start-up failed. Please ...

    Hello,
3 months ago, I got a Nokia 5800XM from a friend of mine, cause my own phone was demaged. It was a very nice phone. But 2.5 ago after I updated the firmware, says my phone: "Phone start-up failed. Please contact retailer.".
I've been to the retailer, but they said it's too difficult for them. I'm also been to a Nokia Care Point, and they said that a new 5800 was cheaper than to repair him.
The death vulcan grip/hard reset doesn't work. I tried it 30 times.
How can I fix this? I really want to use him. Another firmware is ok.
    Kind regards,
    Rogier

Bit surprising if you really got such responce from Nokia Care..because it MIGHT have just required firmware flashing which certainly will cost nowhere around the cost of new phone.. If possible, try another Nokia Care..

  • Nokia 6121 Classic phone start up failed

Hello, My phone has just come up with the message Phone start-up failed. Contact the retailer. Does anyone know of a way i can reformat the phone to try and get it up and running again. I run my own business and Optus has said that they won't replace only repair and that could take up to 6 weeks. Would be greatful for a miracle.

You can try keying in *#7370# to reset your phone. But beware, this procedure formats your phone memory as well. But to reset ONLY the phone and not any memory, go to Settings, Phone Settings, General, Factory Settings, Yes.

  • N8: Phone Start-up failed. Contact your retailer!!...

    Hello Nokia,
I just woke up to find this error on my N8 and now i can't turn on the phone bacuase after the Nokia Logo then this message comes "Phone Start-up failed. Contact your retailer". What should i do to get it back cos i can't do anything now since all my information is on my phone.
I wanted to even connect it to the computer and use it as a USB drive to get some of my info but the msg still appears.
    Pls help
    Kind regards

If your not getting to the homescreens then it's likely you have a very diferent issue to the one described in the post linked,
If you get to the homescreens then it's likely either the nokia sign in thing or just too much starting at once that's hitting you,try putting the phone into offline mode before it comes up and letting it complete its boot,
otherwise if it is happening at the nokia logo screen, then it sounds like something has gone badly wrong,
if you are running anna then you may need to perform a multi fingered reset which will erase the data stored on the phone and restore it to an out of box state, before recovering from a back up that you have made previously,
If that deosn't work then a trip to a nokia care point is your only course of action

  • E50 in USA - Phone Start-up Failed error

    Hey all,
I'm in the US, and I've had my E50 for a couple years now.  Well, my phone randomly crapped.  It wouldn't turn back on (battery had some juice left), so I pulled the battery out and let it sit for about 20 min.  It booted back up only to display the "Phone start-up failed. Contact the retailer." error.
So, what are my options here?  I have contacts that I don't want to lose, but I can't get to the dialer to do a soft reset.  Is there any other way to do a soft reset?  I tried to even do a hard reset (i know i'll lose everything) using the 3+*+GREEN CALL button combo to go to the format screen, but it does nothing.
I also tried to get the phone to connect using PC Suite, but the computer/app don't find the phone.
Anyways, in the US, there are no care centers that support the E50, as it never hit the market here.  What are my options here?  How can I even get this to a Nokia repair center?
Really sucks because I've been waiting for the N97 to come out :-\  I haven't backed up my contacts in a year, and I would love to NOT lose these.  Is there any way to pull these contacts off the phone without actually getting on it???  They were saved to internal memory :-\
    Thanks,
    TJ

  • N97 phone start-up failed

After making a software update using my Nokia software updater on the PC, I first got the "software update completed" message. Then, the phone restarted by itself. Once it restarted, I got the "Phone Memory full: Move or delete some data" (which didn't use to appear before). This message blocked my phone. My phone was unresponsive, and I wasn't able to press anything. So I decided to switch off and on the phone. All of a sudden, the phone didn't switch on anymore. I'm getting "Phone start-up failed. Contact the retailer". I really don't know what happened.
I updated the software of another N97 a couple of days ago. Everything was good with that one. I did the exact same thing for the second phone, and it crashed for no reason. What can I do other than contacting the retailer???
    Thanks for your support

I feel you  buddy, mine died too during the update...took it for repair yesterday. Ask them to swap it for a new one because there's no guarantee  that it's going to start behaving itself.

    Nokia 6260 : Problem Message :
    "Start-up Failed. Contatct Retailer"
If Nokia Care fix this problem then can the data be retrieved completely from phone book, wallet etc...?
    Please share your experience....

Unfortunately there is no way you will be able to get the information from your phone saved. In order to have that done the phone must be in working order.
The phone might however still be repairable and if Nokia cannot fix it for you then perhaps you can try a general cellular repair shop. If the problem is hardware related they might be able to fix it with out you losing your data stored on the phone. If they have to reload the firmware then you will loose everything on the phone unfortunately.

  • Nokia N96 RM-247 Start-up failed after update with...

Hi, i just installed nokia software updater and it updated my N96 from 12.XX to 20.50 and the phone was working fine for couple of hours then the battery gose off and when i conect it to a charger it displayed "Phone start-up Failed. Contact Retailer", and i went to the nokia care "Delta comunication" in Iraq-Baghdad and they blame my because i updated using NSU and they said that action made me out of the guarantee that should last for 1-Year and in this case they'll repair it for price...
after 2 days they reterned my mobile and said that it's un repairable and i had to trash it!!!!
    so any hoped solution?
or i completely lost my new N96 #_#
    Myth-X

usually when phone startup failed is displayed, this is due to the firmware update. after firmware updates it is always recommended to perform a hard reset (three-finger hard reset), that will delete everything off your phone memory, and give the phone a clean slte to work with. i have updated many a friends firmware and have noticed that everytime the phone acts buggy if you do not perform this hard reset. so do this reset, which involves holding the green call key, 3 key and * key all at the same time, then pressing the power button. make sure the device is turned off first of course though. i would recommend a backup of course, but you can't even get your phone to turn on so it is inevitable you will lose data.
let us know how it goes, hopefully your phone can be saved.
If you found this or someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to their post!
