Nokia Maps wrong language

Hi, I have a problem with nokia maps on my N8 (latest version on belle refresh...) From a day to another, the categories submenu is now in english. My phone is set to italian. Everything else inside nokia map is in italian but under search > category everything is in english (i.e. Restaurant, Eat & Drink). I've tried to set the phone in english and then back to italian and also a soft reset with no luck. Can anyone help me?
Thanks!

I have the same problem as Thomas340 but with different language sets! :-)... My E7-00 is of the latest software (belle refresh) version and I have also (when Nokia Suite has prompted) the latest Map software. In only carry Finland, Sweden and Estonia as downloaded maps on the phone.
The user phone language is set as Finnish and the Nokia Maps category (when search by browsing) is in English. Even the category listing under what-icons-to-show setting is in Finnish. This is confusing and I need to change the borwse category lsiting into Finnish, the English listing is logically hard to use. It would be nice if there would be a solution where I just "update" it back to Finnish-category situation ... but I am willing to try anything!!! How did this "problem" arise...I wonder??? It would be nice to know why this happened, so to avoid it in the future!!!!

  • Nokia Map Language Problem

I have reinstalled nokia map to version 2.0 in E66, and downloaded the map through Nokia Map Loader. I'm in China and I downloaded maps with Chinese language, while I set English as my phone language.
When I click Optioin -> Search -> Places and search places near by,  the results are all in English. While if I go offline first then search, the results are in Chinese. How can I set my online search language to Chinese?
I guess there might be some option to decide search language, but I cannot find it. It should not be affected by my phone language, since before the installation my phone language is also English while online search results are in Chinese.

    Hi edwinxi
I think that you would have needed to set phone language in Chinese to achieve this result.

  • Nokia Maps install error "Something's gone wrong" ...

    Hello everyone,
Had to do another hard reset on the phone yesterday.
Can't install the Nokia Maps with Ovi suite.
It keeps reporting a "Somethings gone wrong" error &
"Could not install the following applications: Ovi Maps - with free navigation
There was a problem with the software update service
Please restart Nokia Ovi suite and try again. If the problem persists, uninstall Nokia Ovi Suite and download the latest version pf the application"
Tried restarting Ovi, tried uninstalling  reinstalling without success keep getting the same problem -  "Something's gone wrong"
    Anyone help,
    Thanks

Have you tried via OVI Store on device?

  • Ovi Maps and Nokia Maps - do I need both?

I am sure this question has been asked already but I cannot find it having spent some time doing a search.
The question is do I need both or can I dispense with one? If so, with what consequences?
The position is that I tried to update Ovi maps but couldn't because there was insufficient space on drive C, so I thought I would delete it and then I would be able to install the new version. Unfortunately wrong again - still insufficient space on drive C. Hence my question - do I need both maps? Life would be easier just with Nokia maps in the circumstances.

Thanks. Can I take it that Nokia Maps is pre-installed? Would I be correct in concluding that I can delete Ovi Maps to save space and just update Nokia Maps from time to time?
If Nokia Maps is not updated from time to time I would need to install Ovi Maps to keep up-to-date?
I have I think deleted Ovi Maps but I still have Maps. In fact I am fairly certain I have all the maps I downloaded from OVi Maps. When I run Maps the screen refers to "Ovi Maps". Perhaps I haven't uninstalled Ovi Maps at all although the programme said that I had! Perhaps it is Ovi Maps that is pre-installed.
Sorry but I remain confused and hope I can through this tread clear it up once and for all.

  • Nokia Maps 2.0 don't show maps on N95

Installed the latest firmware on the N95 (V21.0.016 14-02-08 RM-159 A5.01), formatted the memory card, installed Nokia Maps 2.0 (v2.0wk21b02), started it (in order for MapLoader to work properly), installed MapLoader 1.3.8, installed the swiss and german maps via MapLoader (the files are definitively in the 'cities' directory on the memory card), rebooted the phone then started the maps application again. The GPS works find but no map is displayed (even though I'm in Switzerland, everything is just green background, no matter what kind of view (satellite, hybrid, 3d, normal) I choose.
    What's wrong? Bad quality assurance?

I got it working!!! I sure hope this helps you all too!!!!
Firstly, make sure you go to the app. manager on your phone (usually found in the applications folder) and delete the nokia maps 2 from there.
    Also reformat your memory card.
Then do what needtogetfit posted but I've made it step by step for ppl like me LOL):
Connect your phone to your computer using the "data transfer" NOT PC Suite. A folder should show up, if not, go to 'my computer' and it will be there as "memory card" or whatever you have named your card.
Open it and you will see a few files in there. Make sure you delete the folder "cities" or "diskcashe" if it is still there and also delete a file called qf-file. (for some reason they seem to stay there even after a reformat etc and that's what seems to stop the maps from being seen properly)
I also made sure I had 'show hidden files' checked in the tools/folder options/view so I could see if they were hidden or not.
I then installed the nokia maps from my computer onto my phone via PC suite.
Open up your maps (it may take awhile cause it's starting a new directory structure on your memory card to replace the ones you deleted)... and allow it to connect to the internet briefly so you can get satellite coverage. (dont panic, you will still only see a green page, but if you zoom out you should at least now see your country etc)
Once you've done that, close and connect your phone to your computer using the "data transfer" and open up the map loader program and download your countries maps + voices you may want.
Once done, go back to your maps and you will find that all the streets will be showing once again!!
I hope this helps, it worked for me and I tried it on two different reformatted cards that weren't working before this.

  • Nokia Maps Icon Missing?

    Good day everyone.
i have just bought this new Nokia Asha 303 phone and i thought the software installed in the phone is incomplete because i cant seem to find the shortcut for nokia maps. I installed the nokia suite in my pc and check  for software updates and it is up to date. I already tried factory reset, but nothing, still the same. Is it possible to restore the missing icon? thanks for any help.
    sorry for bad english

Right after having my new phone I started exploring its possibilities testing applications from Ovi store. At some point I got some problems with an application so I decided it would be a good idea to try a reset... I first try with an app settings reset to defaults (from the s40 Configuration menu, not the Restoring Factory Defaults menu)... right after that I realized I didn't have Nokia Maps icon in any of the lists of installed applications, nor I could found any loader in both file units, phone and memory card, for it... I was not 100% sure the icon vanished after settings reset, but I supposed it, so I thought something went definitely wrong and I decided to try reset to factory defaults as I just started testing the phone so I hadn't any information saved there to lose... what I could not expect it's that a factory reset will not yield the software at the same very state as what I received short time before. In addition to not getting back the Nokia Maps icon, I noticed another difference in the system, I have an Introduction icon in the list of default applications, that triggers a video playback showing the phone basics... now when I push that button, the playback starts but only for the audio, and instead of the video I show a black screen with a NOKIA logo in the center, the same very screen I see when boot up the phone. I've seen https://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/nokia-maps-suite/bugreport/46316/nokia-map-icon-missing-after-inst... this problem is not happening only on s40 OS phones, but at least on Symbian^3 phones they had a stand alone installer to install back the app http://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-08 Something like this seems what s40 OS phone users like me are needing.

  • Nokia Maps lost after firmware update

I had Nokia Maps installed on my N73 some time ago, it worked without problems. Now when I updated the phone software to v4.735.3.0.2 it is included in the base software. But the new version (1.2) does not show any map data - only a blank screen (and the globe).
I use only the free parts - no network, no GPS, no guides. The maps I downloaded with Map Loader. It has a new version too, so I installed it, deleted the old maps and re-downloaded some of them. But they still do not show onscreen.
There is also a downloadable version of Nokia Maps 1.2, but it cannot install on the phone - some error appears. Neither can I uninstall the version on the phone - it says "Cannot delete file".
What is the problem? Is it that the phone language is Bulgarian, while the maps are in English (there are no maps in Bulgarian)? It was not a problem before, and the UI still appears in Buglarian.
Or, maybe there are some trays of the older version which I can delete manually. In fact, it was first installed in phone memory (so were the maps). Then, I moved the maps to the memory card, and after a previous phone software update, I installed the application on the memory card too.
Please help me find the maps. Thanks!

I managed to view the maps somehow:
    1. Connect the USB in card reader mode
    2. Download the maps using MapLoader
    3. While the memory card is connected, copy and paste the \private\20001f63\diskcache folder to \cities\diskcache in Windows Explorer
    4. Disconnect only from the tray icon on the desktop
    5. The maps are now visible.
This is obviously not a perfect solution. The maps use double space on the memory card. The network cannot be used to update them, only Map Loader. After any download the steps above must be reapplied.
The application cannot be uninstalled/reinstalled. It seems all the problems appeared when Nokia Maps was included in the firmware and concern users which had installed it before on phone memory. I hope they will be resolved in next software update from Nokia.

  • Flash Help in Spanish has wrong language (LNG)

    Good day,
I am using Adobe RoboHelp Version 7.00.45 on Windows XP.
When I go in File - Project Settings - Language and I select
spanish, I don't get a spanish LNG file, but another language. The
other tabs in the project settings dialog (Stops list, Always
Ignore) are in spanish. I suspect there is a problem with the file
mapping. if someone could provide a workaround that would be great.
    Thanks.

I have reported this on the bug form.
You can actually find the right LNG file in the directory
where you installed RH, such as:
    C:/Program Files/Adobe/RoboHelp 7/RoboHELP/language/es_ES
Paste this file into the source folder for your Spanish
project (but note that the wrong language still shows up in Project
Settings > Advanced > LNG File after you do so). I ran an
output, and the Spanish shows up as it should. However, DON'T open
Project Settings and click OK, because the wrong language will be
written to the LNG file and wipe out the Spanish.

  • Why is Nokia Maps costing me money when I log on.

    Hi,
I am having some trouble understanding a few things.
I am in Australia and i just bought a new N85 outright and i am using it with my Optus pre-paid sim card. This phone came with Nokia Maps already loaded.
Now Nokia Maps is one reason why I bough this phone. I understand that using the turn by turn navigation will involve paying a fee and downloading maps online will involve internet charges.
But i am using nokia maps in the offline mode and the only thing i do is ask for my position and search for other streets i am looking for.
Now the problem I am having is that even though i am in offline mode and it still says that i have used 0.0Kb, every time I select Nokia Maps and them log off again and i check my balance it has used somewhere between $1.00 and $4.00 of my credit. even when I dont do anything.
I am not sure where I am going wrong or what I am eing charged for, as i thought in the offline mode not connected to the internet it would be free to just use GPS and search for streets around.
Please help at I have used $40.00 in the last few days logging on and off trying to change settings to see if that fixes the problem.
    thanks a lot
    Ryan

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Did you already check if using A-GPS (section "Assisted GPS (A-GPS)" pages 52ff of your user guide) is yet activated on your device?
This may cause packet data traffic.

  • Nokia Maps wont route to certain places !!

    Hiya
Can someone please try this for me ?
Can you please try and route from GPS and Route to Loftus
See if you can get a route because mine gets stuck at Calculating route and I am wondering if I have an issue with my version
I dont know how many other places mine wont goto but this is a regular one.
Loftus should come up as Redcar or Saltburn when it finds it and is in the UK
    Thx
    Paul

I won't beat about the bush here, nokia maps is *bleep*
If I open the maps application and let it find a GPS signal as im driving along, the map on the handset is upside down ie if im travelling south the cursor on the map is travelling north it is following the route im going but the map is upside down, the GPS should recognise which way im going and turn the map correctly. Only when I plan a route does it correct itself and show the map the correct way up
Also, I have maps for Latvia installed on my mem card and if i zoom into street level and copy one of the major street names in Riga exactly as its spelt on the map then go back to search to search for that street it finds no results, it doesnt matter how many different ways i spell it it can't find it, many addresses I have searched for in Riga and it cant find them, yet when i zoom into the map and find it manually it is there, I'm off to Germany in December for the xmas markets (bah humbug) I have not yet installed the maps for Germany but I wonder if i will have the same problem

The problem started on Ovi suite 3.1.1.80 and continues on 3.1.1.85 - reinstalling Ovi doesn't help.
    I use N8 with 014.002 system.

  • Nokia Maps V3

Does anyone know when Version 3 of nokia maps will be available.
Been using V2 it's ok but has some shortfalls over a TomTom and I was hoping these would be addressed in v3.
ie, full postcode search (offline), wider search area for POI, updated maps, speed camera warnings.
Just come back from Florida and fairplay Maps worked well knew where I was at anytime and I could navigate ok.
Excellent for a mobile phone anyway, and considering the maps are free can't go wrong.

V2 only left "beta" a couple of months ago.
No one knows when (or if) V3 will be released or what features it will contain. What we do know is that nokia maps is in constant development.

  • Reinstallation of Nokia Maps for Nokia 5800

I have installed a wrong version of Nokia Maps (it is not for touch screen phone), so it doesn't work corectly.
Can anyone tell me how can I reinstall the application with the correct version, so I can use the application.
On the Nokia Maps website I cannot select the Nokia 5800 to download it.

    Hi pizhov
Which firmware version is your 5800 running as could have bearing on solution?

  • Nokia Map Loader doesn't recognize the 5800XM

Hello, I have a 5800 Xpress Music and I have downloaded some maps to it from Nokia Map Loader.
Now it is not working and in Nokia Map Loader it waits for the phone (it does not recognize it) when I connect it through USB.
In Nokia Ovi Suite it says that the phone does not work with Nokia Maps or that the maps and voice guidance and corrupted.
I went to make a trip with my car and the voice guidance worked properly.
I tried to download again the Map Loader and it installed the “maps_installer_3.03_1”. And Nokia Map Loader 3.0.28.0.
I have the firmware 50.0.005 downloaded too.
What can I do to download some more maps to my 5800?
I have looked for solutions in the forum but I did not find them.
    Thanks

It seems that there is something wrong with the files in your phone. Run a disk check of your card on your PC. It may fix the problem.
If it doesnt, you will have to manually delete the voice and maps on your phone and recreate the folder structure.
Delete the cities folder and qf file on your memory card. Turn off phone and remove battery for 5min. Reboot phone then open maps application. Wait for it to recreate folder structure. Then reconnect to Ovi Suite and redownload the maps.
