Nokia N9 64GB ''installed apps'' memory

Hi, i was wondering is there any way to increase the 4.2GB ''installed apps'' memory or any tweaks that will help? I have been downloading many apps and games until the memory went full. Why can't I install apps and save them under user data or other memory? Help please.

Hi gunnersforlife,
Thank you for your first post and welcome to the Nokia discussion forums and a happy new year.
Basically to answer your question you have 3 partition's using Linux file system on your N9. These are Installed applications, Application data and User data.
All applications when downloaded will save in the installed applications partition. The configurations files, data files, option files etc will save in application data partition. Basically here systems files will be saved. The largest partition is the user data which is for your own files such as music files, videos files and documents.
There isn't a way of increasing the installed apps partition using any official Nokia applications. There are utilities on the ovi store which can help you manage these partitions but please use at your own risk as there are important system files on the first 2 partitions particularly which affect the running of your device and if accidentally modified may affect the running of your device.
Most apps are small in nature and therefore 4gb is more than sufficient.
Hope this helps.
Regards

  • Nokia N9 Won't Install Apps

I tried to install Toshl earlier today and the app would not install. After several attempts I tried installing other apps (both Store and community). Neither worked. Nor did updating existing applications, in fact, it corrupted them.
Apps will appear on the homescreen but with the "exclamation error icon".
The last thing I did, prior to failed app installs, was add a community repository and install x11vnc. I have performed both a reset and wipe of the device. I still cannot install apps. I cannot even access Terminal in order to remove repo.

  • Error installing apps in my nokia c7-00

When I tried to download and install apps like youtube downloader while installing system error is coming please anybody help me how to overcome my problem

    Hi there,
I have a Nokia Astound and after performing a hard reset on it started having the problem of "System Error" when installing certain applications from Beta Labs or the OVI Store.
After looking around for a solution for quite a while , the thing that solved my problem was this: I went to Applications Manager/Installed Apps and uninstalled the Smartinstaller (also known as Nokia Smartinstaller). Then restarted the phone, tried again the installation of the applications I was having problems with (in my case it was Nokia Bubbles and You Tube Downloader) and they installed without problems.
Hope that this helps resolve your problem.

  • N8 problem when installing apps from Nokia Store

Hey guys! I have problem with my Nokia N8. Most of the time, when I try to install app on it using Nokia Suite on my PC, Suite says that app has just been installed correctly, but on the phone says "Downloading error" and the app doesn't exist. Same thing happened today when I tried to install Viber. Help please

I would suggest you try and update to the latest Ovi Store, now called Nokia Store.
With your phone's browser go to the following address:
    http://lr.ovi.mobi/store/new-symbian-3
you should then get the option to install the latest Nokia Store client, and this should include new QT files. Corrupt QT files are usually the problem when installations from the Nokia/Ovi Store fails.

  • Installing Apps to SD card, NOT Device Memory

I just received my first ever BlackBerry (the Bold), after using Windows PDAs for several years.  I installed some third party apps (some E-books) using the Desktop Manager.  I didn't see an option to select whether I wanted the apps on the SD card or in Device Memory, so I assume they went to Device Memory.
Is there a way to install apps like e-books to the SD card instead of device memory?
    Thanks.

Actually I once had an app that claimed if you saved the "over the phone" installation file (forgot extension) to the SD card via the media manager and double clicked on it it would be installed on the SD card. I do not know if the app transferred to memory to run.

  • Installed Apps not showing in list - Windows 8, No...

I have a new Nokia 620 running Windows 8. I have installed a number of apps and only around half of them show in the app list. I know that they have properly installed because the show up in the memory as installed apps and when I have tried to reinstall them through WIndows Store, I am unable because only the 'Share' button is available.
Most of the apps which are not showing are childrens games/learning apps.
There is no 'preferances' option in settings - store. This is the only solution I have been able to find but it is not available on my phone.
How do I make these apps visible - and if this is not possible then how do I uninstall them given that they are not visible but taking up space?!
    Thanks in advance.

I've had the same issue, on and off, since Adobe CC launched.
Sometimes the apps are installed, sometimes the CC launcher suggests I install things that are already installed.
Today it signed me out for no apparent reason and now offers me a Photoshop CC update but suggests I install the Lightroom that has been there all along.
It just seems like bug-ridden software to me.
This is not for the enterprise version but I imagine these forums are filled with the same broad issue over and over and over again.
You might get updates, you might not, this is a feature.

to save space on c:/ (nokia 5800 express music), i wanna ask for a possibility so that an app sent to the cell from ovi store as link by sms, isn't been installed on c:/.
is there a possibility that it's getting installed on e:/ to save space?

You cannot install the store app on E it will only install on the phone memory, I don't have it installed as I can't afford the loss of space, so go to Ovi store via web browser and reject offers to install app, can still download apps !

    "i installed quite a lot apps recently(30+)"
installing too many apps can cause problems sometimes, and may be 1 or 2 of them causing conflict.
So one work around is to uninstall all of them and install them one by one and see which one of them is causing problem. (thats some time taking work indeed,)
Otherwise Soft reset can help you, it'll wipe phone mem/C and phone will be in "Out of Box" condition. if you have any intention to do a soft reset PLEASE REMEMBER TO BACKUP FIRST.
    Soft Reset;
*#7370# enter ur lock code, default is 12345
    Good luck.
I have an X6 and it suffers from exactly the same problem. I believe that the problem is not caused by one or two apps creating a conflict but instead that the OP (Original Poster) just has too many apps installed at once.
Nokia in its wisdom decided to scrimp on the installed RAM for its 2009 handsets e.g. N97 & X6 and I believe it's this lack of available free RAM that causes this problem in opening the Application Manager when too many apps are installed (e.g. more than 30 or 35 depending on the apps themselves). You click the icon, wait a few seconds with a blank screen and are then dumped back at the previous menu... translates to: Open the App Manager, it starts counting and scanning all the installed apps, it counts/scans up so far and then runs out of RAM and cannot continue to analyse the rest so it auto closes which is the normal behaviour for S60 when RAM memory runs really low.
You can try coolbelief's idea but I think you'll find it a waste of time. Ideally you'll have to cut back on the number of apps you have installed on the phone. If you want more than 30 to 35 apps installed on your phone then you'll have to be resigned to the fact that the App Manager won't function You can kind of work around the fact that the App Manager is disabled... if you need to uninstall a particular application, just go to its icon in the menu or menu sub-folder, click:
"Options" > "Organise" > highlight the app you want rid of > "Options" > "Remove"
I can forgive the X6 most of its faults due to that gorgeous screen but lack of free RAM is one pet hate that irritates me the most especially since my old handset was an N82 which had copious levels of free RAM.

  • Where to install app in N8

I install my app in my n8 phone memory.IS THAT CORRECT.I install games in mass memory.

If you have a choice I would highly recommend that you install all your downloaded apps onto the E: drive for a few reasons...
    1.  Some programs require installing on the C: drive so I always prefer to leave that space for those unique cases.
    2.  In the case that anything becomes corrupted with your installed apps you can simply reformat the E: drive and then reload all your apps easily from the Ovi Store (Ovi remembers what apps you downloaded so reinstalling them is simple).  If you install apps onto C: and then something becomes corrupted you're in trouble because if you reformat the C: drive then you lose Qt and Ovi Store.  There is no official solution today for users to reinstall Qt and Ovi Store and they are NOT embeded in the current firmware.  So you are forced to go to a NOKIA care center where they will reinstall it for you.
    3.  Finally, I don't think there's any performance difference between C: and E: because they are physically on the same piece of silicon.  They are simply partitioned that way from NOKIA.
If you want more info on the 2nd reason above then check out this case...

  • Installed apps wont show all applications on E7-00

I'm not really sure what happened in what order, but in the morning I tried installing Opera Mobile to phone memory and yesterday evening I tryed a few apps from the app store, not sure if this is important. For some reason the new opera mobile didn't show up in apps (i had old 10.1 installed on mass memory), tried to reinstall in mass memory but that failed. When I went to take a look in installed apps I only saw about 1/3 or 1/4th of the apps installed on my phone.
Restarting the phone gives the same end result, it still wont show my full app list.
EDIT: I just figured the problem out. I changed my phone language to english and the apps showed up again. My native language is Estonian, but at some points it's hard to understand the translations and I switched to English. I installed all my apps under english and just turned back to estonian yesterday.
btw the same issue is with the camera. I have 2 folders - Camera and Kaamera, one is used when my phone is in english setting, other one is for estonian so pictures are mixed up between the two.

It sounds like you have apps from two different accounts on your iPod/computer. You have to sign into your itunes account to transfer the apps. You also have to authorize the computer to use the account. YOu can also download apps at no addition cost. See:
