Dear All,
I know following has problem has beeen there for a while, and I guess Sun was working on a patch, I just wan to know is there remedy for this problem or still we have to just ignore the warning message.

It means:
Your mainboard is not qualified for installing Solaris.... Check your BIOS version and does your mainboard exist on the HCL?

    I am trying to install Solaris 8 on my system.
    Intel Celeron 1.7 Ghz
    128 MB RAM
    Gigabyte 8LD 533K Motherboard with Intel Chipset.
    While installing, the second installation screen titled "Bus
    Enumeration" gives the following warning.
    Warning: Resource Conflict:
    ACPI Device: PNP0C01.
    Memory: (about 5 to 6 memory addresses in hexadecimal form are shown)
    NON-ACPI Device: PNP0C01.

    I ignored the message and pressed F2 key as suggested.
    The next screen "Solaris Boot" comes and after choosing the CD (as
    the target from which the OS is to be installed), The next screen
    comes up asking me to chose the type of installation 1) Solaris
    Interactive and 2) Jumpstart. No matter which option I choose, the
    system shows 2-3 messages, and even before I can read them, the
    system reboots. Thus I am unable to install Solaris.
    I searched on Google and as one person had suggested tried tweaking
    the BIOS. (Disable APM etc). But it did not work, because I don't
    have an option that specifically gives the Disable/Enable option for
    APM. I get the Advanced Power Management screen, but it shows some
    different options.
    I spoke about this problem with a friend who has some experience on
    Solaris and he put the CD Drive and the Hard Disk on two different
    buses, but it didn't help. I still get the same message.
    I would be very grateful if someone could suggest a method so I can
    install Solaris.

    The next screen comes up asking me to chose the type of installation 1) Solaris
    Interactive and 2) Jumpstart. At this screen, type
    b kadb -v
    instead of choosing 1) or 2). Now you should be able to read the error messages from the kernel that
    prevent booting into Solaris.

    I've copied the baraction.sh script there, and it has a pretty beefy section at the beginning to pull battery info from acpi...I apparently don't have acpi battery on my laptop...but I can query the battery with cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/energy_now
    there's other things to query such as energy_full, power_now, power/, status, and a bunch of other stuff.
    My problem is...state and info which is queried by the script above is not available to query by my battery.  I was wondering if someone familiar with shell scripting could work me up a quick battery status script?

    I've made something similar, but nowhere near as complex.

  • Installed WinXP Pro as ACPI or non ACPI on MSI 6330 board

    Hi,
    Recently I got myself an MSI K7T Turbo (MSI 6330 Ver 3.0) mobo. Now, I'm in the process of setting up my Duron 1.2GHz system using this mobo.
    I would like to know whether this mobo is an APCI motherboard or not? Which installation option is good for my system, an ACPI enabled OS or Standard PC OS? WHat's the pro & con for these 2 types of OS installation?

    You can try to use the Li'veDrvUni driver. Go to the driver download page and do a search for this filename - Li'veDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe
    But as your sound card came pre-installed from your Dell system. This OEM sound card may require special driver from Dell and may not work with the above driver.
    Gi've it a try, if not you should check with Dell for the OEM card driver.

  • Sol 8 Install on Dell Dim 8100 - Problem - ACPI?

    I am having a mixture of the problems stated on this forum's earlier threads. The kit is as follows:
    Solaris 8 for Intel 8.0 10/00 (2 CD's + 1 DCA floppy disk)
    DELL Dimension 8100 - Intel Pentium 4 1.3GHz processor + 128MB NON ECC RDRAM + 40GB Ultra Hard Drive + 8xIDE DVD/CDRW Combo
    On starting off with DCA, I see the warning that someone else has seen here:
         "ACPI tables not in reclaim memory"
    and then on ignoring this and continuing (again similar to another poster's experience):
         "Resource conflict - Both devices are added
         NON ACPI device PNP0C01 Port 800-8DF .... etc
         ACPI device PNP0C01 .. etc"
    Not easily put off, I continued. It asks for booting options, I say CD. It takes the default boot option and crashes.
    I've managed to set up Solaris 8 and Win2000 dual boot on another (experimental lower spec) Dell Optiplex but not having any sort of luck on this.
    There are no options for disabling ACPI support on the BIOS. I've wasted about 3 days trying various approaches all to no avail and now over to any experts out there - HELPPPPP !!!!

    I am seeing the exact same thing on my Gateway PC (Pentium III @ 733 MHz, 128 MB RAM, 20 GB hard disk). During boot I get the same exact message (Warning: ACPI tables not in reclaim memory) and then during the device scanning I get the message about "resource conflict - both devices added". I get to the same point as you (starts to boot into Solaris) and then the system freezes. So, although I don't have an answer for you it appears that it is not DELL specific and not Pentium 4 specific. What BIOS do you have on your machine? Running the BIOS Wizzard (found on the Unicore site - http://www.unicore.com/) this is what my machine reports:

  • ACPI tables, Resource conflict, Dell Dimension 8100 - need Solaris 7

    I just bought a new Dell Dimension 8100 and I am getting the same error as SunilPP, "ACPI tables not in reclaim memory" and "Recourse conflict, both devices are added NON ACPI device ...".
    One of the solutions suggested on this forum is to install Solaris 7 and upgrade to 8. Does anyone know where I can download Solaris 7 for Intel?

    Solaris 7 is not available on line. This can be purchased on-line at www.store.sun.com or 1-800-sun-0404.
    BTW, I don't believe you can upgrade to Solaris 8. The ACPI support code was introduced in Solaris 8 -- part of DCA (Device Configuration
    Assitant) code where it provides additional PCI device info if the
    motherboard supports it. This WARNING: ACPI Tables Not In Reclaim
    Memory is a bug yet to be fixed.
    You could load Solaris 7 and wait for the fix, then load a new OS which
    has the fix.

    Hi to all?Playing mp3s on XP SP2 system by Winamp5 causes sound?stuttering ( lenght max 500ms ) about 3 times a minute. Seeking the whole web I found an interesting thread pointing to ACPI C2 state.     Scroll up to increase or down to decrease the volume of the earpiece or headset during the phone call. If the problem still persist, I suggest sending the phone to the Nokia Service Center for a check-up.

  • KM4M-V not XP ACPI Compliant

    I have read many threads about getting my new KM4M-V to be ACPI compliant as advertised in the product details page eg:
    VIA® VT8237 Chipset
       - Integrated Direct Sound AC'97 audio.
       - Dual channel Ultra DMA 33/66/100/133 master mode EIDE controller.
    ****   - ACPI & PC2001 compliant enhanced power management.  *****
    The problem is I cannot shut down the computer without making it a non ACPI compliant Standard PC and then installing NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node. But when pressing the power button on my case nothing will happenj(it should shut down) and there is no option choices for system standby, or when the power button is pressed.
    This is not good enough. The motherboard is advertised as being ACPI compliant but mine is not.
    IPCA function is enabled in Bios which is I am told is the same as ACPI but reversed spelling? LOL
    Another issue is the current 1.2GHZ Thunderbird CPU does not show in Bios temp (n/a) and in windows based temp programs it shows as
    -71c. Thats right below zero -71. Its not overclocked at all and windows with games runs stable. I plan to buy an XP2600+ cpu in 5 days and maybe its just my old cpu is the problem there so I will overlook it for now.
    All I want is the motherboard to work as advertised  being ACPI compliant and have one of the following show in sytem device manager/Computer;
    Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC or ACPI Uniprocessor PC.
    Is it too much to ask? I have tried to force ACPI compliantcy and XP wont boot without hal.dll being in windows/system32. A renamed Halaacpi.dll or Halacpi.dll of course does not work. I have the current bios installed, tried to clear the cmos and even reinstal XP and pressing F5 to choose PC type manually but only 2 options are available 1: Standard PC with C-Step i486 or 2: Other / Insert manufacturers disk. Is there a manufacturers floppy disk? In the box all I have is the raid one.

    Yes the power button holding for 5 seconds does turn it off after the "It is now safe to turn off" Error message as seen in the microsoft link.
    Bios is set to defaults trying fail safe and optimized. My first post mentiond I cleared the cmos.

    APCI has NOTHING to do with RAM mate it is a function of only the motherboard. Even the power supply has nothing to do with ACPI.
    There has to be something else.
    I have another system here with Abit KV8PRO-3rdeye and Athlon 64 3000+ with Gainward 6600GT. It runs a 400w power supply in a cheap case with no problems at all. It shows ACPI Uniprocessor PC in XP system devices and shuts down as it should.
    I can only think it is this MSI board having this problem. Why not have ACPI power management listed in the Bios? It has a  IPCA function enabled which is ACPI spelled backwards. why is it that??

  • P35 Platinum and Vista/ACPI issue

    I'm having problems trying to get Vista installed on my P35 Platinum-based system.  I'm getting an error at the beginning of Vista's installation that the BIOS doesn't support ACPI.  Well, that option is turned on in the BIOS, and I've toggled just about every setting under the Power Management section of the BIOS config utility, but nothing makes a difference.  I flashed the latest (1.2) BIOS to the board, no change.   I'm also seeing the computer go to a 'Safe to turn off your computer' screen rather than it just powering off - is this related? 
    Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

    ACPI has to be enabled before you install XP. If you re-enable it after installing XP, you will get a bluescreen.  If you used an existing Windows Installation, that was set up under different system conditions, it probably didn't have the proper HAL drivers for the new  configuration.
    If you re-install XP with ACPI, IOAPIC and MPS Table = 1.4 you shouldn't have any problems.

  • MS 6163 ACPI & Shutdown

    Since I installed windows xp pro sp1... that was some year ago, I have problems eith ACPI error (AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address (0x70), which lies in the 0x70 - 0x71 protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.) that cause freezing my pc and everytime when it freeze I have to reset my pc. So yesterday I had enough and I decidet to make some changes. I Change in device manager under the computer tab... I choose standard pc, so the problem should be solved as the various forums says.... Well i will see. But the consequence of changing to standard pc fromACPI is that the pc wont shut down automaticly. I have to press the power button. But here is my problem. When the screen apears with the sign that I can turn of safetly my computer, I press the button and nothing happen. If I push and hold the power button for about 3 seconds the pc shut down, but as soon i relase the power button the pc power on again and start . So the only way is to switch off the pc by pressing the switch behind the case. I dont know where is the problem. Anybody can help me ?

    I followed the step 5 beacause after changing ACPI to standard computer,,, the pc become non ACPi complaint. So I disabled the ACPI option and installed APM driver.
    Now my computer shut down ok ! Now the only thing remained is by testing the pc if the acpi error and freezing problems are gone. But i see changes in good ways becaouse after i changed the pc to standard type I dont get the error. I hope also freezing problems has gone. I have this problems since the apperance of windows xp.
    I have to see in next few days. I think all of you that have a same or similar old motherboard have the same problems.
    turning back on could be a bad switch in case,bad psu
    What is the bad psu ?

  • GeForce4 Ti4400 + AMD = trouble

    Running with the following components:

    nVidia GeForce 4 Ti4400 (MSI corporation)
    nVidia TNT 2 Ultra (Creative Labs corp)
    Sound Blaster Live! Platinum
    Roland Sound Canvas SCC-1
    D-Link 530TX+ (Network card)
    Generic PCI 56K modem
    Windows 98 (Second Edition)
    Generic 3.5" 1.44MB Floppy
    Western Digital Caviar 33100 (3.1GB)
    Maxtor 16GB HD
    Lite-On 48x CD-ROM
    This is a newly assembeled system.  With the GeForce 4 card installed, the system freezes before Win 98 finishes booting. According to the bootlog.txt file,
    the freeze happens after loading RMM.PDR and BIGMEM.VXD....
    I thought maybe the files were corrupted, so I extracted
     new copies from the Win 98 CAB files, but to no avail.
    I tried many different versions of the GeForce 4 drivers, but also  to no avail..the system always froze in the same place....
    Just as a test, I replaced the GeForce 4 card with an older TNT 2 Ultra card...Sure enough, the system booted up the Win 98 log-in screen.
    Unfortunately, at the Win 98 log-in screen, I see the message that the Sound Blaster Live! card cannot load it's MIDI files, so MIDI playback is disabled.....I then see a "blue screen error" that says the "system memory" is running low, and that Norton Anti-Virus Auto-Protect might not function properly.....
    The system is running pretty slow, so when I check the "Windows 98  Performance settings", it says that the Hard Drives (and Floppy Drive) are running in "Compatibility Mode", but with 81% system resources free.
    I thought maybe the VIA chip-set divers needed to be updated, so I tried 4 different versions, all having no effect...Also, in the main system information screen, while the correct CPU is displayed (Athlon XP 1800+),
    the RAM count only says 1013MB... It becomes more strange because when in "Safe Mode", the RAM count accurately shows 1024MB.  
    So far, I've tried:
       New and older drivers for GeForce 4 card
       New and older drivers for TNT2 ultra card
       New and older drivers for SB Live card
       New and older drivers for VIA Chipset
    I am at a total loss on what to do, so if you could offer any advice or suggestions, I'd be greatful.  Do you think replacing Windows 98 with XP could help?

    Woo, finally got Win XP installed, and my GeForce 4 Ti4400 runs GREAT.  Also put that extra 512MB back in.
    The only problem I'm having now is that any sound coming out of my SB Live (be it, CD Audio, MP3, or something thru the Line-In), starts to get really choppy whenever an IDE device is being accessed (i.e. CD-ROM, hard drive).  When the device is not being accessed, the audio is crystal clear. (Never had this problem with Win 98se)
    The SB Live card is the only device sitting on IRQ 5, so it's not conflicting with any thing.  I've put that card in 4 different PCI slots, but it didn't help.
    Any suggestions?
    Here's what I've tried so far (following Knowledge Base articles from Creative Labs), all with no improvements:
    Disabled unused devices (Serial Ports, USB Ports, Parallel Port, Floppy Drive Controller).  
    Switched hard drive controller into PIO-Mode only.  
    Tried 15-16MB memory hole  (in BIOS).
    Tried lowering EAX reverb.
    Lowered both Sound and Graphic acceleration (even lowered to ZERO)
    Tried Win XP in both ACPI and non-ACPI modes
    Updated VIA drivers to latest version
    Udated GeForce 4 drivers
    Updated SB Live drivers
    Moved SB Live card to 4 different PCI slots
    Slowed down AGP slot from 4x to 2x
    Installed all of the latest patches/fixes for Win XP.
    Nothing has worked yet

    FIRST PROBLEM is the following message was shown at the hardware probe.

    At this time, I was using "Solaris 8 (Intel Platform Edition) 10/01" released version.
    I am not sure what this means, but it was RESOLVED with using newer "x86 DCA boot diskette (Patch-ID# 110930-05)".
    But, the SECOND REAL PROBLEM is another one. It just happens booting the kernel after the hardware probe. I get the following messages about 2 minutes later, after beginning to load kernel.

    I've been having the exact same problems on a PowerEdge 500SC. I have managed to get Solaris up and running on the machine, however. I booted the DCA from the floppy disk and installed from the CD-ROM. When the DCA is ready to scan for devices I use the "Specific Scan" option to tell it to look for specific devices. I tell it to scan for all devices in the listing and in doing so the DCA finds ISA-based IDE controllers. After it provides a listing of the devices it found I use the "Device Tasks" option and the "View/Edit Devices" menu item then delete the Bus Mastering IDE controller device. Once the screen comes up to ask for a boot device, the drives will show up as on the ISA controllers.
    I have to go through this process every time I boot the machine but I am able to make the system run at least.
    I haven't figured out the ACPI problem, yet.

  • System doesn't boot kernel26beyond

    Since a week or so, my system doesn't boot, unless I press <enter> and the power button a few times during the process.
    Once it has booted, everything works fine, but it is highly annoying nevertheless.
    it seems to have something to do with loading my hardware.

    I tried removing scsi and sata, since my root is on an ide disk. But the problem persists.
    also recreating an image using mkinitcpio or reinstalling the kernel26beyond package using pacman doesn't help.
    Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong and how this problem might be resolved.
    It seems like a trivial issue since the systems basically works fine otherwise. However, I can't figure it out by myself, I have tried for a week.

    I'm not sure if this will help you, but I suddenly was having a lot of trouble booting. My system would just freeze with a blinking cursor. I thought it had something to do with my floppy drive because if I changed the boot priority in my bios to boot from the hard disk 1st, the system would boot but would hang for a very long time in areas, and as long as 5 minutes loading uevents. I suspected this was a udev problem.
    I issued a few commands to reset udev, thinking maybe recent updates didn't take effect, which did the trick...

    After that, everything is back to normal. I'm still learning about udev and I'm still fuzzy about a lot of the techy stuff.

    I am running a Sony Vaio VGN-FW480J and am trying to optimize these two tools to save battery life and hard drive life span.   I have added @laptop-mode to my daemon array and acpi-cpufreq to modules. A few issues I immediately notice:
    1) cpufreq doesn't revert back to higher frequencies if I unplug and plug power source back in (before unplugging: CPU 0 - 800 MHz, CPU 1 - 2.00 GHz; after both are 800 and won't change if I plug power source back in)
    2) I believe the hard disk is actually spinning down more frequently (and fan is almost always on, even when no work is being done).  Here are the relevant files/the ones that I have altered.

    If your governor isn't listed in scaling_available_governors, it won't work.  See stqn's link for info on adding governors.

    You do need governors if you're using laptop-mode-tools, because all laptop-mode-tools does is flip between them automatically.
    If you're using cpufrequtils, you'll need the userspace governor for it to work properly.  I don't use cpufrequtils personally, so I'm not sure how to get it to work in conjunction with laptop-mode-tools.  You may have to disable frequency scaling in laptop-mode-tools by changing CONTROL_CPU_FREQUENCY to 0 in cpufreq.conf
    Edit - now that I think about it, maybe laptop-mode-tools and cpufrequtils know how to load the modules themselves automatically.  I guess try it and see if they can.  You can check which governor is in use with:
    $ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
    You can also manually change governors by running (as root):
    #  echo "conservative" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
    Of course, substitue the governor you want.

    Cool, so i ignore the device conflict warning message and carry on, it gets thru the webstart dialogs to the welcome wizard, display a progress bar which get to 25% and then the wizard disapears, I click 'send kiosk to background', but the wizard has vanished, maybe it went of the visible screen area?
    What i have achived tho is to stripe the disk for raid-1 and re-install the service partition, and the partial webstart intall as above.
    My problem however is that it wont boot up, giving message
    'no bootable partition'. The webstart doco says it creates the required fdisk partitions etc
    There is a note in the 'solaris 9 install guide' that says ...
    'if you restored the service partition before starting the install, you might not be able to upgrade to the Sun OE' .
