I was just wondering if any of you who visit this forum plan on modding your older PPC Macmini instead of selling it (for those of you who have bought the new intel version) or if any of you have already modified your mini. I have only stumbled across a couple of neat mods but I am interested in any links you might have or plans you have to mod yours.

Not many people modding minis, I guess the Mac mini is not old enough so people realize they can make some money back by selling them to fund their Mac Intel purchases. I hope the next few years will give birth to some kickass mods.

Not a "problem", but Express n doesn't seem to go "n" in Airport Utility?

Sorry if this has been asked many times before, but I have a MBP, MB, iMac all showing up in in Airport Utility as connecting as "b/g/n" to the Airport Extreme (10/100 n version), but my Express n only shows up as connecting as "b/g".
As I said in the subject line, it's not causing me any problem, in that I only use the AX to stream iTunes to the bedroom, which it'll do just fine from either macbook or the iMac...just wondering if anyone had any ideas why the AX doesn't also show up as "b/g/n" as well? (The Express is also closest to the AE)
The only other thing in the house that shows up as "b/g" is my touch...

In order to stream iTunes to your AX, the computer must communicate with the base station which in turn communicates with the AX. This "back and forth" probably involves a lot more distance than if the computer were only communicating directly to the main router.
A b/g/n compatible signal will drop down to g after some distance and this may explain what you are seeing, especially if there are several walls to penetrate with the signal.
If you want to pursue this theory, temporarily move your AX close the main router and plug in a pair of headphones to simulate stereo speakers. Move your laptop close to the main router as well. Then check again to see what reading you get on the AX. Then move the laptop and AX further away and test again.
Please post back on your findings.

Not a problem but a report

It’s me again (the one 3 months ago with the board that didn’t return from standby)
I have since solved the problem by RMA’ing the board, and I have sailed through another problem too..
and I’m here to report.
I had another problem which was that suddenly my PC froze after booting with a short while...
and after resetting (and upon further resetting and further bootup) the HDD LED would go on and off at a fixed rate and so would the CD-RW drive (as if the board was going into an infinite loop initialising IDE controller)...
Btw, at this stage the D-LED was looping (and seems to be flashing all colours at the same time..! )
Here’s the steps I took:
1. Disconnect everything including IDE drives. —> Same thing (just no more flashing IDE)
2. Remove and reset graphic card. —> Same thing (even without graphics card same problem)
3. Remove and reset RAM —> Seemed to do it once, but froze again...
4. Reset BIOS, removed 20-pin ATX and press power button (it actually started to turn for 1/100 a second without power !!!),
then reset the RAM again...
and it WORKED !!!! –MemTest86’d PC for 4 hours straight–no errors...

Icon for i cloud suddenly disappeared from mail ? Not a problem but just concerned that the icon should disappear from the listing for the iCloud e mail account

I had previosly set up a number of IMAP e mail account in addiiton under my .mac and .me account which is my personal account.
On the mail home page it had the inbox listing thee accounts and further down the page its used to list the on line accounts set up under I cloud using the same name as the .mac or .me accounts, but also included the i cloud icon as does my ipad. Logged onto day and the i cloud icon had dissappeared? not sure why it is still functioning and I still have all my icloud accounts set up but the icon is no longer present.
Maybe just a bit anal but it bugs me to know why this icon has suddenly dissappeared?

Do you use these settings in Mail for your Gmail account (especially for the SMTP) ?
If you use IMAP and all your emails are still stored on the server you can delete your account in Mail and recreate it with the settings mentionned above.

Batteries (not a problem but help info)

Hey, I was jus surfin around the discussions when i noticed a lot of "battery problem" topics....
here are my thoughts, i use to have this problem where the ipod would turn off for no reason, then i read some where that if the battery gets cold it won't work properly... all i did was keep it warm by any means possible, cuz it use to be full then die when i used it. Now that i have kept it warm (don't jus leave plugged into comp, wall charger may work, but i duno i don't have one yet...) it hasn't really died, the only time has been when it has gotten cold, then i warm it back up and it looks fine~~

Under Help clicked on about to see what version. Still showing 3.6.13 but no mention of en-GB. Instead has Mozilla Firefox EU euballot-1.1

The update you got is the correct update, you will have the same version if you downloaded the full setup file.
The EU ballot relates to an agreement that Microsoft reached with the European Union so that Microsoft would comply with EU anti-trust laws. Microsoft historically had a dominance in the browser market as Windows has IE pre-installed. The agreement led to Microsoft creating a a "browser ballot" system which would see its users presented with a page advertising other browsers.
I believe Mozilla use the EU ballot downloads as a method of tracking how many additional installs occurred as a result of the agreement.

I am unable to get airdrop to send photos from my iphone5. Recieving is not a problem but no one shows up in the airdrop box. bluetooh and wifi are enabled.

This has solved the issue, The other device that i tried to pair with and use airdrop had no icloud account, trie wit another device and all ok.

I can not print a PDF from a HP Photosmart Plus B210A. HP says its is a Adobe problem and Adoble says it is not there problem

I am unable to print a PDF file from a HP Photosmart Plus B210a. I contacted HP and they say because the printer does print word docs etc. the printer cannot be the cause of the problem. This is from the Top Level Support team. When contacting Adobe, they say that not being able to print their PDF files is not there problem but HP's.
Another call to HP and they now say it is Apple's problem.
I am in the middle and still can't print a PDF file. When trying to do so, it doesn't print and I receive no error messages. Just nothing. My serial number is
W88110PFZE3 and my operating system is OSX 10.6.8.
Does anyone have a suggestion, or do I just throw out HP?

Try opening the PDF in Preview and see if it will print out of it.

You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

You can contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department at no charge using the form on their Support page (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting and you'll find an "Email Us" button) and explain your problem to them.

I was surfing the net when my computer started emitting double beeps. I shut it down with no problem but I can't find any info on double beeps that did not occur at startup (haven't tried starting it back up yet though). What happened?

Quite the trial to sign in to freaking Apple support. I apparently made an account with my primary e-mail, but damned if I can recover the password, apparently I don't know my own birthday. So I had to make a new account with another e-mail, and even when I thought it was done, no, I had to fill out more information before I could get to this screen. You won't let me ask for tech support from your message board without my mailing address? Then my completely inoccuous user name was rejected for containing banned words. Lemurs and cats are profane now, what? This is why I hate computers.
Anyway, I've got Mac OS X 4.something, can't check because it is shut down, and I already described my problem in the subject there before I got dragged back into account creation. I searched several places for answers but all I can find are discussions about double beeping at startup (even when excluding the word "startup" from search results), while my double beeping started all of a sudden when the computer was in use. The beeps were certainly less than a minute apart. What happened? What do I need to do about it? Is it safe to start the computer up again? Fortunately my files are pretty much all backed up.

I don't know if we are experiencing the same problem, but this is what I did and it seemed to work for me so far.
Before anything I had to hard restart my laptop. hold power button until off then turn back on.
In Finder click on Go, then click Go to Folder. in the dialogue box type
/var/db/crls
In that folder there are two files that you need to move to the trash
crlcache.db
ocspcache.db
You will need to type in your password to move these to the trash.
Restart your computer and then Empty the Trash. It is very important that you empty the trash afterwards. I forgot to do this the first time and I had to restart the whole process. It has been a few days and I have been without any problems.
I am not claiming this process to be my own, I found it on another discussion thread and it worked for me. I don't have a link to it because I had to use someone else's computer and had no luck trying to find it again. This is the procedure I followed, I do remember it well and I wrote down the steps because I had to do it twice and got tired of combing through all of the websites I have searched looking for a fix to my problem. Hopefully this helps, and try it at your own risk of course.

I use an iMac (27" 3.4) and have problems with the Magic Mouse. It does not use contact, but opens useless and unrelated submenus with every click, even on the empty desktop. I can't shift, open or close pages. Has anyone out there the same problem?

I use an iMac 27" (mid 2011). Until recently I had OSX 10.6.8 installed, but both, the HDD and SSD had to be replaced, and I lost all the memory.
After the repair through Apple Care I had OSX 10.7.5. (Lion) installed, which developed a Magic Mouse problem.
Unlike with most users, I have no problems with connection, but grapple with a different kind of erratic behaviour.
All fancy stuff is turned off in the mouse preferences. When I try to move, open or close pages, unrelated submenus pop up and hinder the
required task. No matter how often I click, these menus stay there, and they even come up when clicking on the bare desktop.
It renders the mouse absolutely useless, as no work can be done with it.
The first 'Magic Mouse' had depleted batteries every few days, despite switching it off after use.
I was supplied a new Mouse, which does better battery-wise, but the problems are the same. I can't get a result by clicking on any link, due to
the pop-up menus, so both 'Magic Mice' are totally useless.
At present I am using the old USB mouse from my Mac Pro, and that works still o.k.
The problem are not the mice, but the software. The first 2 weeks after installation of OSX 10.7.5 the Magic Mouse worked though.
I have no idea as to what the reason may be.
Has anyone in the community ever experienced that particular problem. Any hint would be welcomed.

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
