Not all of my Photostream photos show up in the iPhoto Library

I have my iPhone WiFi-enabled so that photos are usually uploaded automatically to my iMac before I sync. They show up in Photostream but not all the photos show up in the iPhoto Library. When I go to edit one in Photostream, it takes me to a copy in the Library, but that's the only way I can locate it in the library - the missing photos don't show up in either Events or Photos.
I'm concerned that I'm losing some shots as Photostream rotates thru the most recent 1000 pics.
I'm on recent Mac OS and iOS, and have had Photostream enabled for almost a year...

Check the sort options in the Events mode.  Sort by Date - descending so the newest events will be at the top of the window. There's be a single event for each month titled like htis: Mar 2014 Photo Stream.  All new photos added to the Photo Stream from your mobile devices in March will be imported into that event.
You can try the following to "jump start" the Photo Stream:
Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively.

  • When trying to import photos with iPhoto from photoshop.. won't let me keeps saying that the photos are already in the iPhoto library but they are not... need to fix this

When trying to import photos with iPhoto from photoshop... won't let me keeps saying that the photos are already in the iPhoto library but they are not

If you are using Photoshop from within iPhoto the following may help with the workflow.  However, we do need to know the answers to the questions posed by Terence and Larry to be able to help you.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

  • Move Photo Files back in the iPhoto Library

Before a few months ago, I had not checked the "copy files into the library" (or something similar, my iPhoto is French-speaking...).
As a result, whereas my newer photo files are in the iPhoto library special folder, the older ones are not (there are plenty of them).
I have successfully moved my iPhoto Library to an external hard drive, all is well for the newer files, but how do I handle those files that are not in the library?
Ideally I would like them to be integrated in the library so I don't have to bother anymore, very much in the way iTunes can copy all files in the iTunes Library, basically.

In the iPhoto Library Folder/ Originals you now have alias files for these pics. You need to copy the full files into the Originals folder and overwrite the aliases that represent them.

  • Loss of photos resulting from rebuilding the iPhoto library?

On behalf of myself and Susan Pease: Can following the directions to rebulild the iPhoto library (by holding down the option and shift keys while opening iPhoto) result in a loss of the photos? Is there some precaution we should take to make sure that the photos are not lost?

Hi, aag. I didn't make myself clear, at least not to you. Inside your personal Home folder on your hard drive is a Pictures folder, and inside the Pictures folder is an iPhoto Library folder. You can see this folder structure by visiting your Home folder in the Finder. What I was advising against in my prior post is opening that iPhoto Library folder in the Finder and adding, deleting or moving any of its contents. Don't do that.
When iPhoto is open, what it displays is the contents of that folder. It expects to find them exactly as they were the last time you closed iPhoto, and it counts heavily on finding them structured exactly the way it structured them the last time you ran it. If you have changed anything in there while iPhoto wasn't running, you're going to have trouble: iPhoto won't load the library, it won't display all your pictures, some of your albums may be missing or incomplete, etc.
"Nobody has any business in there except iPhoto itself" means that the only methods you should use to tweak, edit, delete, import, copy, export or organize the photos in your iPhoto Library folder are the methods offered by iPhoto itself when it's running†. When iPhoto isn't running, leave your iPhoto Library closed and stay out of it.
† Note that, at least in iPhoto 4 (I'm not familiar with iPhoto 2), these allowable methods include the designation of a different application for use in iPhoto's Edit mode, allowing you to use Photoshop, GraphicConverter, etc. to tweak your photos without removing them from iPhoto's control. But under no circumstances should you import a photo from your camera into Photoshop or GC and then save it in your iPhoto Library folder without opening iPhoto and importing it properly. And similarly, you should never open one of the photos in your library with another application, make changes to it, and resave it in the same place (or worse, a different place in that folder) without going through iPhoto to do so.
If you can train yourself to think of the iPhoto Library folder as a locked box to which only iPhoto has the key, you'll be doing yourself a big favor.

  • Photo will diappear from the iPhoto library once I disconnect the external hard drive.

I backed up Photo Booth from my macbook before it recover now I am not able to upload the photos into the iPhoto library.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Copying saved photos on dvds into the iphoto library manager

I am trying to copy photos saved in 2011 on dvds into my library manager. I followed the instructions about copying them on my hard drive first. Now that they have been copied on the library manager, can I delete the folder they are in on the hard drive? it seems to me that we are having to take a lot of space duplicating all those photos.

What "library manager" is that? Do you mean iPhoto Library Manager? If so, remember that it's not a place. You can't put anything "into" it. It just shows you the Libraries that you have on your HD.

  • ---URGENT---My Camera JUST stopped showing up in the iPhoto Library...

I usually import photos once a month or more into my library, so I decided to import photos today... especially since I need to get a certain photo on my computer to email to someone BY TONIGHT- and even though my camera usually works fine with the program, today it didn't even show up in the sidebar, or even ASK me to import...
-My camera is a Canon PowerShot SD800 IS Digital Elph
    -My iphoto is '08
PLEASE send me any suggestions! Thanks!

    No go.
    - The camera shows up in System Profiler.
    - The camera works fine to import photos on my MacBook Pro which is running Leopard, not Snow Leopard.
    - On my Mac Pro w/Snow Leopard 10.6.1, and a fresh install from the original iLife 08 DVD, as soon as I turn the camera to the "connect to computer" setting, iPhoto 08 launches but goes into a loop with that Type4Camera.app app crashing.
    - Same thing happens with Image Capture.
    - No relief from deleting all plists having to do with iPhoto, Type4Camera, and Image Capture and reinstalling iPhoto.
    Definitely a Snow Leopard problem.

  • Not all my movie clips are showing up on the stage or playing

    ones that play through.
why aren't the other 3 even showing up??
i can upload the file if necessary...

i have been looking at yer FLA for 5 min and i have no idea

  • My photos aren't in the iphoto library

I clicked on my photo library to see my pictures and they were all missing. I'm not sure how that happened and how to recover what happened. Any ideas?

This seemed to work for me -
    Go to:
    iPhoto
         Preferences
              Sharing
                   Check the following boxes:
                       Look for shared photos
                        Share my photos
                             Share entire library
              Photostream
                   Check the following boxes:
                        Enable photosteam

                             Automatic upload

  • All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the Finder pictures folder? It seems crazy to have them duplicated (all are backed up externally). And are they full size images in iPhoto?

All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the finder picture folder? It seems crazy to have them dupllcated ( all are backed up anyway). And are they the full sized images stored in iPhoto?

Assuming you have iPhoto set to the Default setting, then yes, your full sized photos are copied into the iPhoto Library and so you can delete your own stored in the Finder.
Easiest way to check:  Select a photo in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Is it stored within the iPhoto Library? You can tell easily in the Finder's column view.
    As an FYI:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • How do I get the new Photos App to use my iPhoto library which is stored on an external drive?

2 years back   assisted me in putting my HUGE iPhoto library on an external TB drive where I store all my pics and videos.  They showed me how to point the iPhoto app to the iPhoto Library on my external, and it has worked flawless since.  But now that I updated to the new release of Yosemite OS X, the Photos app failed to find it.  And from what it looks like, it requires it to be stored locally on the iMac's drive... which I only have 500Gigs, and that was the whole reason for relocating the library...it's WAY bigger than 500Gigs.  I would like to see if there is a way for the Photos app to find the iPhoto Library on my external, and update it so I can take full advantage of the new app and it's features.
    Any help would be appreciated...!

    Hey spdnbusa09,
If you hold down the Option key on your keyboard and launch Photos it should let navigate to and select you iPhoto Library on your external HD.

  • How do I put photos in the iPhoto Library onto my external hard drive?

I used an old iMac for years and I would go into the hard drive in the Originals folder and drag each folder onto the external hard drive. That way I could easily find the different shooting sessions. Now with my new Mac I find an iPhoto Library folder but none of the pictures are there. In asking other questions over the last 6 weeks I've learned that if you click certain keys on the keyboard you can bring up the folders to view. Am I supposed to do this or is it asking for trouble? What is the best way to get my individual folders in iPhoto onto my external hard drive? Thanks so much.

*It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss*
That way I could easily find the different shooting sessions.
The Events feature will do that for you now in the iPhoto Window.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • At launch iPhoto says "8 photos have been found in the iPhoto library...

A little while back I tried to import some images which were apparently too large for iPhoto to handle. It never imported them but they now seem to be stuck in some mysterious place where I can neither load them nor delete them. I'd like to delete them at this point but don't know how. At launch it says, "8 photos were found in the iPhoto Library that were not imported. Would you like to import them now?" but if I say "yes" it hangs forever and a day. Anyone know how I can just get rid of these?

    Start here:

  • Where is the iPhoto library stored and how can I browse to it in Finder?  The "Photos" option is not showing up on the left hand side.

I created an app using Automator to batch resize my photos.  When I take photos with my iPhone 4s the resolution is so big I can't upload them to a web site, so I can select all the photos in an event and resize them down.  It's too time consuming to open each one in Preview and resize it manually.  This little app works perfectly!
Here's the only thing I'd like to change - when the app starts up it asks which photos I want to resize.  I'd love it to default to the iPhoto library so I can choose the most recent event.  But I can't for the life of me find it!  Normally there's a choice on the left hand side that says Photos and in the automator finder window, it's not showing up.  I've looked through all the folders I can think of and can't find it.
    Help!

You are not using iPhoto properly and are in danger of losing your photos
iPhoto is a SQP database application and there are NO user servicable parts in the database (by default the iPhoto library)  It is extremely important that you NEVER make any changes of any sort to the content (or structure) of the iPhoto library
The only safe (and suppoprted) way to resize photo is to select them and export using the various esize options in teh export dialogue and use those resized photos - this is a bathc process and does not involve Preview nor does it involve seperate processing for each photo
