Not letting me add files to me external hard drive
I literally just got home from the apple store because my mac was not recognizing the new maverick update, so they fixed that but now I cant add file to my external hard drive! why is that? there is a whole bunch of room on it still...... please help

I was sitting here reading some of the other posts and figured this out. I have a Logitech Keyboard for Mac. I highlighted the G Drive Slim Icon on the desktop. Then I held down the Command Key and touched the letter "I" key. This opened a window that says "G Drive Slim \ info". This is where you enable or disable the Read or Write Permissions.

I have Mac Book Pro with most updated OS. I have Belkin Router Monitor with most updated firmware. I have external hard drive with MS DOT (FAT) format.
I would like to use my router for home network so I have attached external hard drive to my belkin router to share data with my Macbook and my TV. I noticed that I could detect my external drive in my mac book and my TV (I could open the files from my external hard drive and view it in my mac book and TV). However, when I try to copy data from my mc book to my external drive (which is connect with the router) it shows me the message ‘Items can’t be copied to XX (my hard drive name) because you don’t have permission to read them’. I have also seen the permission request by attaching external hard drive with my Mac. It shows me that I have read and write permission.
I am looking forward for some solution so I can copy data from mac book to my external hard drive when it is attached with my router.
Please help me.You probably have to format the drive for Mac. If you don't have write permissions sounds like its formatted in the Windows NTSC category.

My Mac won't let me put files into my external hard drive

Apple has a handy search function on their web page, so you can go to the upper right searchbox on most pages and type in what you need. Just typing in "format hard drive" gave me this result. -
With the new OS, itunes is not letting me add files from my external HD to the library
I just downloaded the new OS (Mavericks) and also the new version of itunes (11.1.2). Now, I'm trying to add some files to itunes (using file>add to library) and the first thing I notice is that the "Icons" view fails to display any content (at all), when switch to "column" view I can see all my folders but cannot access any of them, and when I switch to "list" view and try to browse to the music folder in my external HD, itunes gets hung and I have to force quit it to be able to use any of the other opened apps in my mac. Something similar happened when I tried to save a file in preview: no content on the icon view. It is like if there's something wrong with the add/open and save functions, it is not responding properly
From my knowledge the computer just Syncs to the phone not iCloud..
It can update & restore etc..
iCloud is just a back up service for the info on your phone..
Have you tried doing a Factory Settings via iTunes..Then a restore. -
I am having problems adding files to my external hard drive. Can anyone help me?
I can't add files to my external hard drive from my computer. I keep getting a message saying that the hard drive can't be modified. I've added files to it before, I'm not sure why it's not working now. I looked at the hard drive information and it says that it is set to read only. Does anyone know how to change that or what I should do? Thanks.
Odd, it seems. In the Finder "Get Info" display, you are seeing something like this?
Click the "Details" triangle and then the little padlock, and you should be able to change the permissions. Click the lock when you are done and close the Info window. -
Help I just moved my music files to a external hard drive and am using the new crappy version ( i know my opinion) of itunes and cant add the files to my libray it gives me the add file to library option but not the add folder to library option what am i doing wrong?
In iTunes 11 uncheck the preferences setting in in the iTunes Preferences panel "Advanced > Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to Library"

Time Machine will not let me restore from backups after June, 2013. I can see the files on the external hard drive but Time Machine skips all of them and goes back to June, 2013. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?

What if the problem with their device is that it requires a new-fangled "grounded" outlet and your circa 1890 house doesn't have grounded outlets. Would you refuse to purchase a $ 25 adapter on principle? -

What are you using to search? You should be able to search any drive in from the Finder. If you're having trouble, try "EasyFind" from the App Store (free). You can search any volumes with it.

I am a long time iTunes user but a new MacBook owner! I keep the majority of my music files on an external hard drive. I'm trying to view all those files on my MacBook through iTunes. With windows you would go to : File/Add To Library, and iTunes would add all your selected files to your music library BUT WOULD NOT COPY THEM TO YOUR HARD DRIVE. In other words, if the external hard drive was connected, you could listen, drag/drop, and edit the files. When I tried the same thing with my new MacBook... it actually started coping the files to my MacBook harddrive. I don't want that, it's millions and millions of mp3's that I don't want to keep on my computer, only my external hard drive. Can anyone help? I'm sure it's something easy, I'm just so new to the Mac world. Being an iPhone owner for many many years I'm picking up things fast, but this is getting the best of me! Help !

Have over 86GB of music now showing as "other" and although it is still on my iPod it is not playable. Most is from imported CDs. I do have a backup file on an external hard drive. How can I fix this?
To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them. -
I have an iMac purchased in May 2011. OSX Lion 10.7.3. I deleted backup file from the external hard drive which operates from Time Machine.
Now, the trash can will not empty some of the files deleted from the backup harddrive.
The trash contains-- File folder: "Core Services" which contains a locked file: "boot.efi".
It will not delete.
How do I get the trash can empty of these files?Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think? -

I upgraded to Maverick and now Time Machine will not connect to the external hard drive to back up files. The external hard drive is a Western Digital "My Book Live" 2 TB. How do I solve problem?
I also had problem accessing my WD MyBookLive after upgrading to Maverick.
To resolve the problem, I used Connect To Server (Cmd K) to specify the IP address.
Then I enter a user id and password I created in the MyBookLive.
You can also verify that you have admin access to the MyBookLive using Safari or Chrome.
Just enter the MyBookLive IP address as the URL. -
When I try to import .olm files from my external hard drive back up, where do they go? It says on different forums they go to the "on my computer" folder but they are not there.
I go through all the instructions but then my emails do not appear. I'm starting to panic a bit!You might want to try asking on the MS Office Outlook forum - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoutlook - since those are Outlook files.

- the only option Firefox offers for importing bookmarks is to import them from another browser...is there another way?In Firefox the bookmarks are saved in a database file called places.sqlite in the profile folder. If you have got this file from the external hard drive you can restore the bookmarks by copying this file to your current profile folder.
