Not Receiving Fax's

My HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One Printer - C410a is not receiving any fax's!! Help please!
All fax tests came as PASS when running the test on the printer.
All troubleshooting was done but with no success.
What can be the issue??

Hi
There is not much descrtiption on the problem, like can you sent fax?  During incoming fax, does the printer rings?  Did it disconnect after the the rings ends and display shows connecting?
Just some wild guess:
1) Lower the fax speed to low, and set the ECM (error correction mode) to off
2) Install a DSL filter between your printer and the wall jack.

  • Hp laserjet 200 color mfp m276 nw not receiving faxes - help please?

    Good morning,
I have run the fax test report and followed the trouble shooting information in the manual and still am not receiving faxes --- any suggestions to help get back on line?  All the tests say PASS  for active phone line, phone cord connected to correct port, telephone line current test, dial tone detected on telephone line -- my HP product has passed the fax test -- but I cannot get faxes.  The fax service log is saying no fax detected...   any suggestions -- we use this fax to receive lab reports.
Thank you very much for any suggestions.

    Hi KathFallston,
I understand that you are unable to receive any faxes and everything passes on the fax test. I can
    help you.
Check these settings for the fax:
Go to the wrench icon/fax setup menu/advanced setup/private receive/turn it off.
Go to the wrench icon/service /fax service/error correction/turn it off.
Go to the wrench icon/fax setup /advanced setup/fax speed/change it to medium.
Go to wrench icon/service menu/fax service/clear saved faxes.
If you are still having issues, then follow this document.
    Cannot Send or Receive Faxes.
What type of connection do you have? (Analogue, DSL, Cable Modem)
Is there any voice mail set up?
Do you have distinctive ring set up on the line?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great weekend!

  • MFP M127fn can not received fax from sleep

I can not receive fax when printer go to sleep.
I already upgraded lastest firmware, turn on fax event, the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet but still not working.
There is no option to turn off auto sleep feature.
    Please help . Thanks

I am having a similar problem. Once the printer goes to sleep, I cant get it to wake up even if I press the screen or power button on the printer itself. The only way to get it to print once it goes to sleep is by unplugging it and plugging it back in.

  • OS X 10.4.11 will send but not receive faxes on Power Mac G4 MDD

OS X 10.4.11 will send but not receive faxes on my Power Mac G4 MDD. Perhaps I should remove the relevant .plist preference file(s). But which one(s) is it /are they? Or is there something else I should do?

Thank you for your reply, BDAqua. I have set the fax feature to answer after 3 rings, but the phone rings only once when someone is trying to send a fax. The phone icon in the menu bar changes to "ringing ..." but nothing more happens. The phone line on which I receive faxes is dedicated to that use. I phoned in to its number earlier today from another phone. I heard it ring once and then it went to the busy signal. I then disconnected the fax phone line from its wall jack, connected a phone to the jack, and phoned in to it. The phone now rang and rang as it should. So this confirms the assumption that the fault is in the computer, presumably in the Print & Fax software. I should also mention that I don't find com.apple.print.FaxPrefs.plist in /Library/Preferences.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus does not receive faxes

I have run the HP troubleshooting  fax diagnostic on the device and the report indicates all items pass.
Yet the machine will not receive a fax.
    Suggestions?

    Hello @markg2 ,
Yes you are correct about having to lie for the auto answer when using the wizard.
Since you have the double ring try the following.
On the front panel of the printer, touch the arrow on the right.
this will scroll the options. Touch Setup.
    From here touch Fax Setup.
Scroll down and touch Advanced Fax Setup.
You should now see an option for Distinctive Ring.
    Touch this option.
Choose either the Double Rings, or the Double & Triple Rings option.
This will get your printer to answer the distinctive ring you have setup, and allow your voicemail to answer regular calls.
From the Fax Setup menu, go into Basic Fax Setup.
From this menu you can turn on the Auto Answer feature, and change the number of rings to answer.
I hope this was more helpful.
Thank you for the additional information.

  • HP 7612 not receiving faxes

We've had an HP 7612 for months now and all of a sudden it's not accepting faxes. Rings once, makes a tone and shuts off.
Checked the settings and did a fax test and all looked good. What could be the cause?

    Hey @tamwolfe,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the fax receiving issues you're experiencing with your HP Officejet 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One. I understand that you have already checked settings to no avail. Thank you for also including that the fax test completes with no issues. At this time I'm going to walk you through some additional troubleshooting to resolve this issue.
Just so you are aware, faxing is old analog technology. However, nowadays Phone Companies use digital lines rather than analog. Digital lines should work just fine. However, there is a lot more static noise and interference on those lines that can cause intermittent issues when receiving faxes. Usually the digital interference doesn't affect sending faxes. If this machine was working for a period of time and suddenly stopped than there is a chance that the Phone Company updated something on their end that has caused additional interference. Our ultimate goal here is to suppress as much of that static noise interference as possible to allow for reliable faxing.
    Step 1: Disable ECM:
Error Correction Mode is a setting that is turned ON by default on your printer. This setting will cause your machine to stop receiving faxes should interference be detected. I am going to have you disable this feature to force faxes to receive.
On the touchscreen for your printer right arrow until you see the Setup menu (wrench)
Touch Setup to access this menu
Select Fax Setup to access the Fax Setup menu
Right arrow to Advanced Fax Setup and select it
Right arrow to Error Correction Mode (ECM) and select it
    Disable Error Correction Mode
Have someone fax you now to ensure that receiving is working again. Should you still be experiencing issues please continue to the next step.
    Step 2: Lower Fax Speed:
As I previously mentioned, digital fax lines can cause a lot of interference for fax machines. With digital phone lines the technology is much more advanced than on analog lines. The transmission speeds on those lines can also cause packets of information to be lost, resulting in a fax communication error when receiving. To correct this issue I am going to have you lower your fax speed.
On the touchscreen for your printer right arrow until you see the Setup menu (wrench)
Touch Setup to access this menu
Select Fax Setup to access the Fax Setup menu
Right arrow to Advanced Fax Setup and select it
Right arrow to Fax Speed and select it
Change the Fax Speed to Slow
Please try receiving a fax again on your machine to ensure that the interference issue is resolved.
Note: If you are using a DSL Phone Line you will need to have a DSL filter on your fax cable to cut down interference. Also, avoid splitters or phone cable extenders as they can contribute to the interference issue.
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your fax issue. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • 7520 can send faxes but can not receive faxes

We just installed the 7520 and everything seems to work fine except receiving faxes.
We can send faxes just fine, however the strange thing is when I try to call the fax number from a phone it acts like its dead, you never hear it ring or anything then it just disconnects. If I switch the phone cord to the Ext connection in the back of the device and then call the number I can hear it ringing on the calling phone and on the 7520 device.  The display lights up because there is an incoming call and shows that auto answer is on, but when it answers we never hear the normal fax type tones and it never connects.
The phone is being supplied by Time Warner Cable and it plugs into the cable modem. We called Time Warner and they told us that the line for the fax is an analog line but I have no idea how to check that or prove that.
I can't figure out why it will send faxes with no problem but seems like its a dead line when trying to receive a fax.
    Any thoughts?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

With the printer's phone cord connected to the wall jack and the "1-Line" {nothing plugged into the 2-Ext} port, try running the Fax Test.  See Step 5.  Does everything pass?
Make sure the Distinctive Ring option is set for All Rings unless you have a distinctive ring set up with your phone service provider.
If you use a filter for your telephone, try using a filter for the printer.

  • External modem not receiving faxes

I have an Apple external modem plugged into the USB port on my partner's iMac 24" 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, running OS X 10.5.6.
I cannot get it to answer the fax line and pick up faxes. In the Network system panel External Modem shows as Not Connected. When I click "advanced" the system seems to recognize the fact that an Apple modem is hooked up.
Any idea how to get this to work?

Hi Keith, that sounds like a munged plist/pref, but since I don't have one of those Modems to find the right one I may not be of much help, but the ones that may affect I think would be these...
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/SystemConfiguration/
Another thing to try is dragging these whole folders to the Desktop, then reboot..
    /Users/nnnn/Library/Preferences
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/SystemConfiguration
Look for files like this also...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/ByHost/com.apple.PrefPane.Network.<12digitHexNumber> .plist
    Or...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.<12digit HexNumber>.plist

I finally got the printer set up to my wireless router and am able to fax and receive calls but now I can't send a fax.
I have a bundled service phone, internet and cabl;e with voice mail.
I have reduced the number of rings to 2 and turned off automatic answer.  ready to pull my hair out!!
HP tech service was no help and neither was the cable company.  Got this far on my own but hit a wall!
    any thoughts?

Hello @mull274 , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are running into fax issues.  I would like to help.
I would recommend performing a power reset on the printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend this document on Fax Sending Fails Intermittently.

  • OfficeJet all-in-one J6400 Not receiving incoming FAX

    Hello,
I have OfficeJet J6400 all in one in my office.   I'm not receiving faxes from anywhere-- companies, from my home.   Strangely, the only fax I receive is the Fax Test reply  from HP when I do the 877-HP-FAXME test.
I've tried the setup in all ways.... placing wires n all different places between printer and phone jack and DSL router.  I do NOT have Fax cable wire  connected between printer and laptop.  Just want to work with phone line jack and DSL.  However, the printer is able to print from laptop due to "wireless" connection.
I've also tried unplugging and replugging printer ast main electric plug to wall.  And have unplugged and replugged all connection wires between printer to wall jack and router(if any), in an effort to make sure all connections are firm.
By the way, this printer works great otherwise.
Anything else to try here?  Help.
    THanks.

Hello and thank you for your kind reply.   That article is very good and comprehensive.  I recommend it to anyone with a problem with their printer.
I was going to post later, but mysteriously I fiddled around more with printer today.  And one strange thing I came upon was that in the "Devices and Printers" file,  the Officejet J6480 was  showing twice.   The first one was simply called "HP Officejet J6400 series".  And then  there was a second (installation?) icon called "HP Officejet J6400series (Copy 1)".  And of course, there were the icons for each for "fax".
So, I deleted the "(Copy 1)" icons only.
I should have done a fax test right then to know if that was the problem.
But I also tried once again to change attachment of the phone wire.  It has been between phone and wall jack. (and in a splitter plugged into a DSL filter!)    I changed it to plugging into Ext-2 line in Printer (and leaving other end in Phone).  And I left the wire that is attached to wall jack (just in DSL filter now) and printer "Line 1".
I did a HP faxme test and it worked.  And I called my phone to check if it answers to phone's internal answer machine, and it did.   This is new.  I have tried this arrangement before and these functions didn't work.  I do need to try a fax from another fax machine for the real test.  In past,  the HPTest would work but an external fax from a company or my home would not get through to this office fax/printer.  ??
If it all works, It is possible that removing the "Copy1" installation from Device page helped.
Who knows, but the phone and answer machine are working so far, which is an achievement.
I will report on a real Fax test done from elsewhere.
    to follow.
    Thank you again!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus will not send or receive fax

I have connected the fax machine to the phone outlet, the fax machine dials to another fax machine, the connection sounds like it is being made (the receiving fax machine sends out a noise signalling that it has received a phone call) and then the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus says that is is "Connecting" but no fax is sent. Nor can I receive a fax, even though the phone rings on the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.   The error code I get is Error 388 which is that a communication error occurred during fax transmission.  However, this message occurs regardless of the fax number that I send to, and I had the recipient check that the receiving fax machine was working fine for transmittals from others.
Is it possible that the proble is that  I cannot send or receive faxes through a digital phone line?  That seems odd to me given that almost all phone lines in the modern era are digital.  How do I send and receive faxes with the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus if the only phone lines available are digital?  Also, 4 months ago, I used the same phone line for the same machine, and the fax function worked, but my phone provider assures me that the only phone lines that they have ever provided are digital.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
I am sorry to hear you are having issues with the fax functionality on your Officejet 8600 plus. I have found a document that has several troubleshooting steps you can try to narrow down the issue. I know some of these steps you have already done, but there might be a few that you haven't, like there is a HP test fax service you can use to test functionality.
