Not waking up from sleep

TOSHIBA Satellite L505D-S5983 Windows 7
If in sleep more than an hour or so would occasionally not wake up, or would take 5, 10, 15 minutes to wake up.
By accident I discovered than if I had the task bar locked in place it would always wake up as soon as I moved the mouse.  If the task bar was set to auto hide than I would have the "not waking up" problem.  I have tried this about ten times over the past three days and always get the same results.
Does not make any sense to me but that is what I found.  Would be interested if others have the same solution.

LOL same problems here, didnt think that others had this problem too. Just thought it was the way i installed Leopard ( i didnt do a clean install, just upgraded) been meaning to redo it, but not got around to it yet.
also got these problems too ... already sent a bug report to apple.
My macbook pro is having a strange problem. When i start typing for example, and website address or anything for that matter, the first letter that i type is not registered. So, when typing "www" all you get is... "ww" this very annoying and as you can imagine over time, as i have had my macbook pro for about 6 months, and get very frustrating.
I would also like to address my airport range. When i compare my Macbook pro to my girlfriends new Macbook, its apparent that her Macbook's Wifi range is much better. She is able to see more wifi hotspots. For example, in the same location, she can see 8 hotspots whereas i can only see 3 hotspots on my macbook pro. I am starting to think my Pro is not very pro, and i wish i got a Macbook rather than the Pro, as it has a better range of Wifi.
Also, while i am at it. i would also like to address my Macbook Pro's Battery heath. I use a Dashboard Widget called "istat pro" my Girlfriend uses this too on her Macbook. She has had her Macbook for about 6 months also, and her battery health is 100% Perfect. Now my Macbook Pro's battery health is 93%. this worries me. My Macbook pro's battery has had 107 cycles and my girlfriend's macbook has had 96 cycles... Why is that ?
please help.
a worried mac user.

  • Macbook not waking up from 'sleep'

    Hi there,
I got an really annoying Problem with my 4-Month old Macbook Pro and I hope you guys here can help.
My Macbook Pro does not wake up from sleep, the sleep indicator is solid and not pulsating at all.
The strange thing is, when I initiate Standby the sleep indicator is pulsating, also I can wake my mac up. So my macbook is not waking up if it goes to sleep by its self.
In Addition it is possible to wake my macbook up few seconds after it automatically goes to sleep.
But if is goes to sleep automatically and I don't touch it for few hours I cannot wake it up again.
I already did a PRAM, SMC reset. no change.
Maybe I should mention that my macbook pro is hooked up on an external Display. But not directly connected, there is a kvm switch in between. So I can switch between PC1(PC1Display) & MAC1(PC1Display+MAC1Display) Configurations.
any ideas what the problem could be?
    Thanks, TimmyX

I seem to be having the problem as well.
Occasionally when waking it will work. the machine wakes up to a white screen and a little progress bar at the bottom. then the screen comes back.
other times the screen stays black. it seems the computer itself is not sleeping but the screen is black and the Fkeys don't work to either to either change the dim settings on the monitor or keyboard.
I usually have to force shut down the computer to get it back.
I tried the fix I found online about turing off the ethernet port then re activating it after a restart and that seemed to work.
Then I updated to 10.6.2 (using the combo updater NOT software update) and the problem is back.
I now have done the ethernet off and on fix again. I hope it will wor.
I have found a lot opf people with this problem...
I did a clean install of 10.6 and then used migration assistant for my files and prefs... but not my applications since I was migrating from a powerbook g4.
Maybe some pref or setting that was migrated for many of us is causing it...
Are there others with the problem who are on a NEW mac without any migration?
Hope we can help get to the bottom of this.

  • IMac not waking up from sleep after 10.6.6 combo update

Prior to update everything working fine, permissions repaired, file structures sound, no issues. After update, iMac won't wake up properly from sleep. Moving mouse (either Bluetooth or wired) has no reaction. Hitting key on keyboard (Apple aluminum extended wired keyboard) causes desktop screen to appear, but the spinning gear/pinwheel appears in screen center, and continues to spin. This continues and continues, no reponse from keyboard/mouse. Only work around has been to force quit computer and reboot. Problem repeats next time computer goes to sleep. Repairing permissions has not effect on issue, but now list of permissions getting repaired is very lengthy. Causes? Solutions?

    Macster,
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job. If you own one, run it first.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.
Then, Try downloading the 10.6.6 Combo update, from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse,Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.

  • Not waking up from sleep whilst back of display unit getting very very hot.

I have had my first mac now for just 6 months, over the last 6 weeks or so it has intermittently failed to wake up when it goes to sleep for prolonged periods of time i.e striking keyboard, moving the mouse or pressing the power button. As well as this the back of the display unit is getting extremely hot to the touch. The only way to resolve this problem is to pull the power cord and let the display unit cool down before it will switch back on again which can take a couple of hours.
Has anyone else experienced or is experiencing this problem.
    James

have you tried to just let it wake up? I had an issue (similar) were the MBP would be asleep, I would mouse the mouse or hit a key to wake it and it would sound like its waking up but the screen was blank. I would either close the lid or just power down. One time I just let it sit and with in a few minutes it came on and the frequency got further apart.
but I haven't have any real issues since 10.5.2 and a few other updates.
    +When in doubt . . . seek a genius out . . .+

  • Battery not charging and MBP not waking up from sleep

I've got both of these issues happening. Sounds like I just have to wait it out on the sleep issue until a point at which Apple will issue a fix. The battery not charging is becoming especially frustrating though. I've had the computer for about a month and it just started a few days ago. I've checked the battery to see if it qualifies for replacement and it has the correct model number but the s/n has a different last for digits. I've unplugged/removed battery/held down the power button and no change, the battery still does not charge. Seeing as the MBP will run with the power cable inserted and the battery removed, I'm assuming that the cable's ok, the light has rarely come on at all lately -- no green or amber. Any advice here? I'm getting pretty frustrated with this thing.

I met the same issue, the difference is while i touch the track pad or move mouse or hit keyboard, the screen responds rapidly and then back to black. tap the keyboard, it beeps... I can do nothing except "command+control+power" to restart or long press power to power off it.
I found it only happens after I installed 10.8.2, it works well before 10.8.2 update.
    any help please?

  • MacBook Pro Not Waking Up From Closed Clamshell Sleep

    Hey everyone,
I've been having problems with my mid 2009 2.53GHz MacBook Pro 15" not waking up from sleep after I open the clamshell (screen) back up.  When I open the screen after letting it sit for a while, I can hear the HDD spinning up and the status light on the bottom of the MacBook turns off (like it normally does when the clamshell is opened), but the screen is black and there is absolutely no response in any key combinations or trackpad taps.  I've been having this problem for about a month now and its getting pretty annoying.  I've tried a total wipe of the disk and a fresh Lion install with a full TimeMachine restore, but I'm having absolutely no luck.  The only thing that can bring the MBP back to life is a hard restart.  Sometimes when I hard restart it, it comes back to life right where I let off (basically like when the battery loses all its juice and restores everything thats open), but most of the time, it starts up like a normal boot with no restore.  I don't know if this is a software or hardware issue, but its really starting to get on my nerves.  Let me know if you have a solution!  Thanks!

Unfortunately, I think the logic board is shot on my MBP, and heres why.  My lower RAM Slot only reads my ram some of the time, whereas the top slot never has a problem.  If I have to restart my Mac because of the above sleeping issue, it only has 2GB of ram, but if I take the sticks out and swap them, it briefly runs with 4GB until the clamshell gets shut again, and its the same slot thats not reading no matter what configuration of RAM I'm using.  Ive swapped RAM sticks with multiple people with no luck.  If Just take the bottom stick out, everything is fine, but If its only the bottom stick, it only starts up about half the time.  If it dosent boot, I get the "Beeps of Death" at startup.  As i said earlier, it's probably not the RAM itself thats causing the problem, somethings screwy in my logic board thats preventing it from reading RAM even though it's in the slot.  And yes, I made sure the ram was in it's slot all the way.

  • HP Envy Laptop will not Wake up from Sleep Mode with Windows 10

The reason I decided to go back to windows 8 was because since upgrading to Windows 10, when my computer goes into sleep mode, I cannot wake it up. I have to press and hold the power button to shut it done and restart. Even if I close my laptop, and reopen the lid, it wont start back up and I have to press and hold the power button and shut it down and restart.  After trying to restore my HP Envy Laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 8, it got stuck in a Repair PC Loop and I could not even access the desktop, I tried the restore option to an earlier date and that failed and all the repair options also failed. The last option I had was to do a full PC Refresh, and that one worked. It took about an hour but no data was lost, and only a few of my downloaded apps were removed. An html url was left on the desktop that showed a list of all the apps that were removed. So all I did was download those back and now im back up and running Windows 8.  I want to re-download Windows 10, does anyone have a fix for this issue?

    Hello mistyb1,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the printer not waking up from Sleep Mode.
I do have a few suggestions that we can try.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Once you have the printer connected to the wall outlet, please use the ON/OFF button to do a proper power cycle.  This will do a Semi power reset on the printer.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
    Thanks for your time.
    Cheers,

  • MBP Will not wake properly from sleep-flash of screen and keyboard for a bit every few seconds.  Under guest account, wakes up just fine.  I also cannot unlock various padlocks to change settings in e.g. system prefs. security?  Any help, I'm dyin!

Not waking up from sleep-flashes lighted keyboard and screen, and I cannot unlock the padlocks in the system to change settings, look at keychain, etc.

Still cannot unlock system prefs/users etc.   Also, many applications are returning errors like:  "failed to obtain the necessary authorization"  or " '' failed to obtain permission" so I've attached a portion of my log, showing when I attempt to unlock (or click on the padlock) in system preferences - User Accounts:

  • Certain applications will not open after restart or waking up from sleep

My Macbook Pro running 10.9.2 won't open certain applications after restarting and sometimes after waking up from sleep. Google Chrome, Logic Pro X, Adobe Photoshop and Premiere seem to be the only progams affected. Firefox and Safari both work fine as well as many other applications. It seems to only affect programs that connect to the internet.
After a period of time the issue will resolve itself; sometimes after a few minutes and other times after several days. Then, these applications suddenly begin working again. I have also been having issues with my computer's ability to wake up. My best guess is that my computer isn't "fully waking up" upon restarts or when coming out of sleep mode. Both of these issues began around the same time and could be related. I've had both problems for several months through multiple software updates.
As far as troubleshooting goes I have done the following:
Safe Boot - (all programs work but are not effective due to lack of drivers being utilized in safe mode)
    RAM/PRAM reset.
    Disk Utility/Repair Permissions/Verify Disk
Any help or advice would be VERY appareciated.

    Robin,
It sounds like your MacBook is logging out when the computer goes to sleep if you are getting the login window, which will of course close all your programs.
In System Preferences >Security, uncheck "Log out after.....minutes of activity".
See if this stops it from doing that.

  • Compaq C700 - CPU fan not running after waking up from Sleep mode

    Hi guys,
Waking up from Sleep mode does not start the CPU fan.
    Kernel:  2.6.32-ARCH
    KDE : 4.4
Let me know what other details you need.

I was having the same problem after installing mountain lion.
What i did was in Finder went to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/  and deleted all the networking plists (refer screen shot). Then restarted the Mac and in Network Preferences reconnected to my WLAN.
    That solved the problem.

  • W510 eSATA/USB2.0 combo port does not respond after waking up from sleep mode

Has anyone tried to connect external DVD/CD player or burner to the eSATA/USB combo port and experienced very slow system performance after waking up from sleep mode?  It might takes minutes to launch an application program that usually takes just few seconds.  My W510 can not even restart.  It will just stop at the Thinkpad logo if I tried to restart after waking up from sleep.
The funny thing is if I moved the external DVD/CD player to the USB2.0 port in the back, everything went back to normal.  I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that the combo port has something to do with eSATA.
    Thanks

It seems that this problem is unique to my system. I am hoping that one of the Mac Guru's will have at least a pointer in the right direction.
    Thanks.

  • OSX 10.9.1 macbook pro 13 retina - wifi does not reconnect automatically when waking up from sleep mode since I have a Bluetooth apple magicmouse

    Hello,
My config is OSX 10.9.1 new macbook pro 13 retina (2014).
The wifi does not reconnect automatically when waking up from sleep mode since I have a Bluetooth apple magicmouse.
It was not the case before I bought the BT mouse.
Is this problem between Wifi and bluetooth coming from the OS?
Is there a fix already available or scheduled?
    Thanks

    Hello alexandrefromfrance
Check the Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly section for steps on what to do when your MacBook Pro does not connect after waking from sleep. I have also quoted the section on troubleshooting the issue as well.
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
After waking from sleep or starting up, your computer may not show that it is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
After start or wake, your computer may indicate that it is connected to a network, but does not connect to the Internet.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer does not automatically connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Check your TCP/IP settings in the Network pane of the System Preferences. Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
Select Wi-Fi, then click the Advanced button in the lower-left hand corner of the screen.
Click the TCP/IP tab from the top of the screen.
Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button.
Select the Wi-Fi tab and view your Preferred Networks list.
Select each network and click the minus sign to remove those networks from your Preferred Networks list.
Click OK and close the Network preferences.
Remove your stored network passwords using the Keychain Access Utility.
Open Keychain Access from /Applications/Utilities. Your window will look like this:
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the login keychain: Select the "login" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the System keychain: Select the "System" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".

Note: The above steps will remove your Wi-Fi network passwords. If you do not know them, or if your network does not use passwords to restrict access, you should contact your network administrator.
    Restart your computer.
Join your Wi-Fi network. You will need to enter your password for your network again if it requires one.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.

  • Hello, I have a macbook pro late 2011 15 inch with 4 gb ram. My macbook runs extremely slow when logging in after waking up from sleep, locking up and I am unable to use the keyboard. Is there a fix?

My macbook runs extremely slow when logging in after waking up from sleep, locking up and I am unable to use the keyboard. Furthermore, when just using safari to watch streaming television, my computer gets really slow, and locks up, and the dock appears blank and I sit here frustrated. Anytime i wake up my computer, my keys don't respond and I've waited at most 3 minutes untill i can type in my password. Even sometimes when i type in my password and hit enter, it takes forever to open up my mac. I have barely used any storage in my macbook, since i only use it for college, and I have run clamscan wiht no viruses showing... Any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • IMac G5 iSight will not wake up from sleep

This has been happening to me for some time.
Occasionally my Mac do not wakes up from sleep. Instead it hangs!
    Here how it goes:
I press a key on keyboard; my Mac wakes up, but screen remains black with only mouse pointer. I cannot see login window.
And Mac stays this way for hours. No matter if I press a key, click a mouse.
The only remedy is to press power button and to shut it down.
Then I have checked console.log. Nothing spectacular. Here is log from last accident:

Wait - before you take it in for repair or get put on hold with Support try this:
Go to System Prefs, Energy Saver, then set your display sleep and computer sleep times the same. Check both check boxes too.
Trust me, I've been working on this problem with Apple and checking the discussion boards for over a year now. I've had my logic board replaced, power supply replaced, been through about 8 Apple techs and tried just about anything you'll read on these boards or get told to do by a tech. If you notice about every 4th or 5th page has someone posting about this problem. The above suggestion is the most recent thing I tried (from reading posts here in this forum, not from an Apple Tech) and it has come out of sleep for the past 30+ tries without a problem. This is not to say this is IT(the final sovle), because it has been known to go on a good run for a week or so and then come up again. This 'fix' however, has been the most promising. If it continues to work, I will let Apple know and hopefully they can fix the bug. They have all sorts of case history with me on this problem.

  • Ethernet interface disappears after waking up from sleep

    Hi guys,
I've been trying to debug a networking problem without any luck and I think it's about time I ask the forum for help.
My ethernet interface no longer works after I wake up my computer from sleep. I have no idea why.
    Before sleep:
    # ls /sys/class/net
    lo wlp2s0 enp3s0f2
    After waking up from sleep,
    ls /sys/class/net
    lo wlp2s0

Furthermore, plugging in the ethernet cord after the computer has started doesn't connect to the internet, even when I have the ifplugd service running. I am forced to run:
sudo ip link set enp3s0f2 up
    sudo dhcpcd enp3s0f2
However, I can't run these commands after the laptop wakes up from sleep since it no longer sees the ethernet interface.
I am thoroughly confused. Please help me.

It seems to be fixed after the kernel update. On an related note, I've switched from using dhcpcd to netctl. I've enabled netctl to automatically connect to the network using:
    # systemctl enable [email protected]
    # systemctl enable [email protected]
So when I check for the status of the ethernet profile, I get told that's it's inactive.
    #netctl status ethernet-dhcp
    netctl@ethernet\x2ddhcp.service - Networking for netctl profile ethernet-dhcp
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]; static)
    Active: inactive (dead)
    Docs: man:netctl.profile(5)
But I turned off the wireless, so I must be connected to the ethernet, So how do I know which profile I'm connected to?
