I just discovered something today which will be useful to all of us. As you know, we very frequently have questions about what a particular Toshiba utility does and some people have asked where they can read about all the Toshiba utilities.
I noticed today while researching an answer for someone that Toshiba has added a new line under Support Bulletins at the Download site for each Model as of 04/16/2012. The title is "Toshiba Laptop Utilities and Features". Check it out next time you're at the Download site. It covers 36 utilities. I have already learned a lot from it and intend to study it some more as I have time.

Are you able to provide more details please:
* exactly what software and software versions is the problem with ? <br /> You appear to be a Windows 8 user, but presumably the Kaspersky software may be applicable to other Windows versions, which Kaspersky software is this tested with ?
* What is he exact error message or warning that Kaspersky generates in this situation ?
* is the problem documented elsewhere, preferably in a public open site, if so maybe you could provide a link
* can you detail simple but exact detailed Steps To Reproduce that will enable others to test out this problem and solution.

Your profile indicates your Mac is running v10.7.2
If that is correct, updating your system software may help.
Click Software Update from the Apple menu.
Restart your Mac after updates are installed then try the App Store.
If you can't update that way, there's a workaround.
Install the OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo)
Then restart your Mac and try the App Store.

Try Settings > General > Reset > Reset network connections.
Other basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, and restore.

Mail not getting all messages from server and other strange behavior

Hello All,
Mail has been doing some odd things for me of late (at least the last week) and I'm lost for a solution to my problem. As far as I can tell, perhaps my Prefs. have become corrupted, or at least something in relation to Mail has become corrupted. Perhaps someone has a solution to this issue before I have to back it all up and NUKE the whole **** app to get back up and running properly.
The main issue I appear to be having is that Mail is not getting all of my Mail messages from my server. I can log into my web-mail interface provided by my domain host and can see there that there are many e-mails that don't appear to be coming down the pipe to the Mail.app client. I'm getting some e-mail's but not all....
*Here are all the things that I've checked:*
• The missing e-mails are not being picked up as Junk and are not in the Junk folder
• I have done a search within Mail for the missing e-mail's and nothing turns up anywhere.
• I have checked on the server end that I'm not maxing out my InBox or that there are any other service issues from my domain host provider.
• I have been into Prefs and checked my account settings - most (see below) of which appear to be as normal and are fine.
*Here are the weird things that I've noticed:*
• When I went into the Prefs. for the account in question, I noticed that my login had changed. For example - it usually it is "[email protected]", however it had seemed to have changed to just "johndoe" - I know this wasn't me as my domain host will not allow me to access any mail unless the login is the full mail address.
• In RULES, every rule I double click to check on seems mostly fine, apart from the fact that every "Account is:" the pull down menu just appears as blank. Usually it says "Account is: ([email protected])"
It's there last 2 items that make me think something is corrupted - so I guess my question is, what pref or file has corrupted and how can I fix it without having to give Mail.app a digital enema?
Any assistance would be most helpful - missing some but not all your incoming e-mail messages is quite annoying, as you can guess...!

This appears to be a rules issue. Mail is almost certainly downloading those messages, but they’re probably being processed by your rules in an unexpected way — given the information you’ve provided, maybe because there is something wrong with the file where the account settings are stored.
Do you have any Mail plug-ins? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
/Library/InputManagers/
/Library/Mail/Bundles/
~/Library/InputManagers/
~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
To make accurately reporting this information easier, you may open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you can just copy it here and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You can then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
ls -1 /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:

After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
1. Write down your Mail > Preferences > Accounts settings or take screen shots of them.
2. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
3. Quit Mail.
4. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the Mail folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
5. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this solves the problem). If you have a backup of your data that includes a working copy of this file, you may try restoring it from the backup to avoid steps 6-8.
6. Open Mail. You’ll have to set up your non-.Mac accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done.
7. You’ll have to re-configure some of your Mail > Preferences settings. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
8. As a side effect of re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, Mail might rename Outbox (which is where messages waiting to be sent are stored) to Delivered. The name of that mailbox is actually a misnomer, as it would contain messages (if any) that couldn’t be delivered for some reason. You can delete that mailbox if you wish.
9. If the problem is fixed now and .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.

Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

Recently I have not been able to post comments and other related issues.

On some websites like Reddit.com I am usually no longer able to post in comment boxes. I can type my comment in the box, but hitting save clears the box and no comment is posted (oddly, i noticed that the comment ends up at the end of the url).
Or use the cursor to click on up and down vote arrows. When I mouse over the arrow, it changes to a hand with pointed finger, but clicking the link does nothing.
Or post photos.
Normally I use Firefox 29.0.1 (which I have been using a long time and do not want to change). But the problems I mention here apply to both browsers, depending... on other things I cannot control or figure out. But at the moment, I can use links for comments etc. on IE8 (cannot update), but not on FF.
I've asked Reddit help but so far nobody has replied (r/bugs and r/help).

Sounds that you are blocking JavaScript.
Do you have security software that might be blocking JavaScript?

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

Quicktime in GoogleSites does not play in Safari5 (but Safari4 and others)

I need a hint, why quicktime movie embedding(viewing) in GoogleSites is broken in Safari 5.
In GoogleSites the following html-embed gadget in snippet 1 is used for embedding quicktime movie:
This html-code works in Safari4 and other browsers, but not in Safari5 (not Mac or Windows).
I assume this has to do with long url.

Is this a bug in Safari 5?

I have reduced the complexity of page-html below and opened it from .html file on local HD. You can cut and paste to give it a try.
Result is that IFRAME works with some text content (section 2), but not with encoded XML-embed-snippet with object-tag (see above) as content (section 1).
But this object tag with embed-tag works in last section (section 3) as direct part of the html-page.
Just the combination of iframe and embed-snippet works in all other browsers even Safari 4, but not Safari 5. What is wrong?

Sprint 4s not getting my text from me and others.

Does anyone have an answer to why my wife noticed that two weeks ago, she stopped getting text messages from my 4s with Verizon and others with non Apple Cell phones as well. She has had this phone for a year with no problems. Thanks.

If she's having an issue with not being able to receive messages from non-iphones, she needs to contact her carrier for them to reprovision her texting plan. if she's not receiving messages from your iphone, then she needs to do the troubleshooting in article TS2755 (you can enter it in the search in the upper-right corner of this page)

Opportunity Listings and Other Forums

I recently made a post in the "Coffee Corner" section of the forums that was deleted. I received email notification stating SND does not want company adds or jobs posted on the forums. As I respect the rules of the forum, I promptly changed my listing.
I am also part of several other large SAP and PeopleSoft forums. Most of which have specific sections solely for posting open opportunities. Many give members the ability to list caliber positions so long as the company is not spamming the board. These sections are highly monitored by the forum administrators as to qualify the positions as legitimate high quality openings.
My suggestion would be to maybe open up a part of the forum specifically for opportunity listings. I would continue to suggest that members must have made at least 10 prior legitimate postings and maintained membership for at least 7 days prior to being able to post in said section.

As an independent consultant, I am a very much in favour of a dedicated forum.
Whilst I am not in favour of agency-style job adverts (there are enough job boards out there), it would be a fantastic idea for those people who are actually based at a company to be able to post requirements on a place like SDN. e.g. I need a person with skillset X to help us out for three weeks over go live. Or we need someone who can build Z for us.
The reason this doesn't happen, is that there generally isn't a sufficiently sized audience to make this viable. Therefore companies use recruitment agencies. For various reasons many of us would prefer to work directly for the client. (and it could also benefit the company concerned). A dedicated forum on SDN would be an excellent resource for this purpose.
There is a danger of it becoming a job board spammed by recruiters, but I believe there are many ways to address that. I would suggest creating a dedicated "Direct Resourcing" forum as a trial and seeing how it goes.

Isight, messenger and other forums

Hi All
Bought my isight yesterday and naively assumed that being an apple product and using with my 18 month old powerbook all would be easy to use and work straight out of the box but dissapointed to find that nothing seems to happen with messenger and with the forum i regularly use the camera is recognised as being connected but no picture is being transmit. I can't believe that the isight can only be used to communicate exclusively to other mac users which despite the fact that I love mine does exclude a huge amount of people in the world who use windows.

Some tabs and click-on headings are not working. They worked yesterday, and other than updating Firefox AFTER the problems, I've made no changes. Example: headings in Facebook; headings in my library website.

Some of the browser tabs and headers that are "clickable" are noe working. I click on them, and nothing happens. Part of Facebook works, but the headers do not. My library site headers, which has tabs for "Search" and "Account" as examples, do not work. Up till late yesterday, there were no problems. I did re-install Firefox this morning, and it made no difference.

The Yahoo! Toolbar extension has been reported to cause this issue.

Mac not reading Disc full of .VOB and other DVD files

Hi all! I wasn't sure where to put this so here I am.
I'm currently transferring old VHS cassettes to DVD-R using the Sony RDR VX530. The disc plays in the Sony. I finalize it and take all appropriate steps. When I insert the DVD-R into my MacBook, it says "Burnable Disc" and shows no files. None at all. I took the disc to my sister's house and put the disc in her Windows laptop and ::BAM:: all the files were there and playable on the windows machine. What gives? I can put other dvds in the drive and see the Video_TS and Audio_TS files, but not the ones I record on this machine. The machine only has two recording options, VR and Video, both of which have to be finalized. Is there a solution besides me having to go borrow a windows laptop to connect to the network so I can pull the .vob files onto my mac?

It sounds to me like you didn't finalize your DVD!
Most DVD recorders and DVD cameras don't finalize the DVD until you specifically tell them to. This finishes writing things like file system information on to the disk but it also makes it so that more data cannot be written to the disk in the future. (This is why it doesn't do it until you tell it to).
Some Windows computers have software that allows them to read disks that haven't been finalized yet. I actually think its a feature of Vista and 7 but I'm not sure about that. Either way, look in your DVD recorder's manual about finalizing the disk to get it to work on your Mac.

Dream Weaver CS 5.5 not showing Flash/Vimeo/JW player and other Flash content local

I have just installed WebPremium CS 5.5 and when I look locally through XAMPP at a web site in any browser, no Vimeo/JW players or Flash content
are showed. Flash is installed!!! The rest of the site is visible.
Only in "Live View" I can see everything as normal in dream weaver CS 5.5, but not in any browser.
When I look at the same site local in DW CS4 all looks fine.
