Notes & Columns- Bridge CS4

Hello,
Just a quick question, I'm in the Essentials mode of Bridge; to the right of the main content window is the Preview pane atop the Metadata and Keywords. Metadata is active and File Properties expanded, I have notes ticked in the Metadata, File Properties preferences (beneath- Rating and above- Supports XMP), but no notes field is available in the Bridge, Metadata- File Properties pane. How do I get it active?
I take it that as a user I am able to enter notes in this field (please let me know if I have made an incorrect assumption), but if not where can I enter notes regarding an image and have them displayed when using Bridge? I understand the File Info pane does accommodate this with the Description field, but this is an inconvenience when one just wants to quickly add a few words to an image for future reference.
And while I have your attention...
One other point: When using the Close Column option (after right clicking on a column header while in MetaData (now the main active window)) I have found that when I, for example, traverse to Filmstrip, then return to Metadata the column has reappeared, is there a way to turn off redundant columns so that they do not reappear when navigating back to the Metadata window?
I am sure there are options covering both of my queries, but clearly I have been unsuccessful in locating them.
Thank you.

I think the notes have to be written with some other software other
than bridge cs4 and then you can see the notes in bridge, but not
modify the notes in bridge.
For example you can make notes with the photoshop elements
organizer (windows not mac) and they will show up in the notes field.
As far as i know, the elements editor (both mac and windows) does
not have a method of entering notes that show up in the notes field.
If your in the pse8 editor and want add some kind of notes, you would
have to use the file info dialog. In bridge cs4, you can add notes using
the IPTC Core in the metadata panel, usually just below the file properties.
As for the second question, in bridge>Edit>Preferences>Metadata, you
can choose which columns you want to appear by unchecking beside
the names.
They might know different over in the bridge forum

  • Why not use Bridge CS4 with PsCS3?

I will post this on both the Bridge and Ps User-to-User forums as it applies to both.
I have PsCS3 and PsCS4 installed side by side in the default folders assigned by Adobe but have shifted my Bridge CS4 Cache (containing all the thumbnails and previews) from C:Documents and Settings\etc to a subfolder within My Documents, which I had previously moved to my F: drive - my main data drive.
I have found Bridge CS4 to be much more stable than Bridge CS3. Additionally, Bridge CS4 has certain features which make it more attractive and easier to use than Bridge CS3. I want to use Bridge CS4 in conjunction with PsCS3 until Adobe has sorted out the problems with PsCS4 - which at the moment is simply unuseable on my rather old and humble system.
On my system, I seem to be able to use Bridge CS4 with PsCS3 without any problems detected so far. I even have things set up such that any JPEG, TIFF or PSD file double clicked within Bridge CS4 or within Windows Explorer (Win XP Pro SP3) automatically opens the file in PsCS3 and not PsCS4 (provided, of course, that PsCS4 is not itself already running). Furthermore, even with PsCS3 running beside Bridge CS4, from within Bridge CS4 I can open any RAW, JPEG or TIFF file in Camera Raw 5.1 and use its new features (Adjustment Brush, Graduated Filter, extra vignetting capabilities, etcetera) which were not available in the last release of Camera Raw (4.6 I think) associated with PsCS3. The only problem comes when trying to open edits made in Camera Raw 5.1 in PsCS3 using the "Open Image" button in ACR - it does nothing/won't work, this is, it won't open the image with the ACR adjustments in PsCS3. That's not a big deal for me - as I am currently not doing any work within ACR (any version) and if I needed to I could simply save the ACR edits and then open the files in PsCS4, save the files as PSDs and then open them in PsCS3 to finalise them there.
Has anyone else had a similar experience, or does anyone else know of any reason(s) why I should not continue to use this workflow, at least in the short term?

I've been away. Thanks John, Bart and Buko for your responses. Think you misunderstood my post Bart, but it does not matter now. John got the correct message. Buko: of course CS3 cannot use ACR 5.x - that was implicit in my post.

  • Output to PDF module not working - Bridge CS4

In Bridge the Output module (sidebar) does not display, as well I cannot output a selection of images to a PDF file.
I tried to update the program and received the following error message:
"Adobe Output Module 2.1: Failed to Install"
Has anyone here encountered a similar problem?
    Cheers,
    Michael

    Richard
Glad to see I'm not the only one.
Having dealt with our friends (Adobe Support), who although willing to respond, have not been able to solve this issue. Now it appears I will not longer receive their kind (but not so helpful) suggestions unless I fork over more money to assist in debugging the product :-(
Since acquiring the Master Suite, there have been a number (5 in all) updates that simply won't install, and the Output Module is flaunted as a relatively important part of the collection for creating WEB sites.
Hopefully, there are others who have this issue and are willing to post here. It seems it may be the only way we are going to see something done about this.
    Cheers,
    Michael

  • Problem with Bridge CS4 reading/editing XMP metadata added in Bridge CS6

Please excuse me if this is a dumb/obvious question. I did try searching the forums for similar problems and didn't find anything that seemed to speak to my issue.
I'm having a problem where Bridge CS4 won't read/edit xmp metadata (specifically, keywords and descriptions in the IPTC panel) that I have entered using CS6. it will read some files, not others. The files are all .mp4s. Of these files, I can read/edit IPTC panel metadata for some of them in Bridge CS4; I can add metadata for all of them in CS6. I see no particular pattern in these files to explain what is and isn't read/editable in CS4.
My question is whether this is a compatibility issue between different versions of CS (in this instance, CS4 and CS6). i know it's a tired refrain to blame software when it could easily be user error, in which case I'd be frankly delighted to know what i'm doing wrong. Please bear with me as I give a few more details.
I'm using macs. I've tried this on multiple systems - for instance, on a mac pro 3 which for some reason has both CS4 and CS6 installed, i can add and edit keywords using CS6, but not when using CS4. Again, in CS4, some .mp4 files read/edit, others do not.
Bridge CS4 blames the files and tells me that the selected file cannot store xmp metadata, and that the properties cannot be modified. To be specific, in the metadata panel it says "this property cannot be modified"; in the keyword panel, it says, "This file (zzz.mp4) cannot store xmp metadata. No changes will occur." This seems odd, because I'm able to add xmp metadata for the same files in CS6 on the same computer, and other computers. I know this problem would disappear if all our computers were using CS6 (or CC), but unfortunately that's not a possibility at the moment. Some of them only have CS4.
Computer details (not an exhaustive list, but two instances): mac pro 3.1 running snow leopard, 16GB memory; macbook pro 4.1 running snow leopard, 4GB memory; adobe bridge cs6 (5.0.0.399) and cs4 (3.0.0.464).
    Things I have tried:
Permissions - the files are set to read/write for everyone. Given that I can add/edit metadata in CS6, it doesn't seem to be a permission issue.
Purging the cache - other users seem to have had problems adding metadata in Bridge CS4 where purging the cache for affected files solved the problem. Didn't work in this instance.
Upgrading all affected computers to CS6/CC is beyond my control. I need to figure out why CS4 won't let me read/add/edit xmp metadata, if only for the sake of understanding the broader implications for interoperability.
Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    adobe bridge cs6 (5.0.0.399) and cs4 (3.0.0.464).
Without having experience with mp4 files and metadata my observation is that you certainly have not updated Bridge CS6 ( should be 5.0.2.4) and I believe also not the latest version of CS4, can't imaging this also stayed at .0.0 so first try to update both.
And if CS4 can read the data of some files it should be capable of reading them all. Be sure to have the files completely cached first, can take a while.
Other things to try in CS4 is refresh preferences (hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset prefs).
And also check for hidden cache files using menu view/show hidden files. Sometimes those cache files can be troublesome between versions.
If purge cache did not work and reset prefs also failed consider to also delete Bridge plist file and Bridge cache file manual (from user library)

  • Bridge CS4: works with Mavericks?

[NOTE: Adobe Bridge CS4 came bundled with Photoshop Elements 8]
    MY CURRENT HARDWARE:
Apple iMac (late-2012 slimline model), 2.9 GHz Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB Hard drive, external DVD drive
    MY CURRENT SOFTWARE:
    MacOS 10.8 Mountain Lion
    iPhoto 2011
Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 (with Bridge CS4)
We have an aging white MacBook in our office that we are about to replace with a refurbished MacBook Pro with Retina Display. We have concerns about sharing documents and collections between machines, so we need to keep our software versions the same on both machines (Some software will have to be updated, and since the new laptop will be running MacOS 10.9 Mavericks, we're going to have to look at updating the iMac's operating system and other software.
We like the current Photoshop Elements 8 (with Bridge CS4) on the iMac. We would prefer not to upgrade PSE at this time.
Question: Will PSE 8 / BrCS4 run on MacOS 10.9 Mavericks? Are there any known compatibility issues?

I have updated to Mavericks from snow leopard I have downloaded Bridge CC and PS CC, still have Bridge CS4 on and PS CS4 and both now run, after experiencing cache folder problems like everyone has had it seems. Creating a new cache folder it seems to be ok now fingers crossed. I followed the way to do it on a thread on here.

  • NEVER MIND: ANSWERED: Clicking on photo in Bridge CS4 opens file not in PSE 8 but in Preview

On my Mac (OS 10.6.8) I had to re-download and reinstall Photoshop Elements 8 after my hard drive crash because I don't at all like Photoshop Elements 10. (Sorry, Adobe.) Now, when I'm browsing in Bridge CS4  (which I much prefer over Organizer; sorry, Adobe) and click on a photo to open it, it opens not in PSE 8 but in Preview. The Bridge Preferences does not address where files open, so I can't figure out how to get it to default to open in PSE 8 and not Preview. Any ideas, please?
PS: Before the crash, clicking on a photo in CS4 opened it in PSE 8, not Preview.
A nice person on Google+ answered the question with this reply:
"Open bridge, then Go to Bridge (Menu bar) Preferences.
File Type Associations, change them over to PSE8 in the right hand column."

You do understand that bridge is just a browser and not an asset management program like iphoto or organizer?
You would need to get your photos out of the iphoto library unless you are using a referenced library. In any case, you don't want to be using two different programs with two different keywording methods. You cannot use bridge on the iphoto library file itself, no, even if you don't care about losing the photos it contains.

  • Adobe Bridge CS4 will not launch ACR

I'm getting this message when trying to open an image from Bridge CS4 in ACR,
"Camera raw requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature"
Any ideas how to cure this, I've downloaded the update 5.2.2., what is the correct location for this? Automatic update is just opening a box withe file in and I cant find the previous.
By the way ACR opens fine from Photoshop CS4.
    Thanks

    Philip:
This has been discussed in the Camera Raw Forum: you may need to install the new ACR 5.2 plug-in in the correct place manually.

  • Can not open Camera Raw in Bridge CS4, or see thumbnails

    MacBook Pro
    OS 10.5.5
    Photo Shop CS4 version 11
    Camera Raw 5.2.0.65
I had another version of Camera Raw from PS3. When I bought the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, I deleted the old camera raw plug in, so as to not conflict with the new camera raw plug in.
When I open PS4, click Photoshop, click about plug in, ONLY one version of Camera Raw comes up.
In OS 10, when I click GO at the top, then applications, then Adobe Photoshop CS4, then Plug Ins, then File Formats, I get two Camera Raw icons: a blue lego like icon that says "Camera Raw.plugin" and another icon that looks like the Macintosh HD icon, but is labeled "CameraProfiles.dmg"
The problem is that I can't open files in Camera Raw when in Bridge CS4, nor can I see the little photo thumbnails either.
    Can someone please help?
    Desperate in NYC.

The Photoshop folder is NOT the correct location for the Camera Raw plug-in, since several versions of Photoshop.
The correct location, is, as described in the readme and in the FAQ of this very forum [hint]:
Mac: [root of your hard disk, NOT your user folder's library]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS4/File Formats/

    yeeeey, just resolved it
after going to edit>>preference>>advanced then Enable generate monitor size preview, i had to clear the cache then to regenerate the previews

  • Bridge CS4 will not update to Camera Raw 5.7 on one of my computers.

Bridge (CS4) will properly display my Nikon NEFs (from my Nikon D3 & D3S) on my old Mac Pro (Lion 10.75) but only the NEFs from the D3 are displayed on the exact same program on my MacBook Pro Retina - Mavericks).
I have followed Adobe's instructions perfectly, over and over again, but no matter what I try (and I did try some variations) I cannot update from Camera RAW Preferences.Version 5.0.0.178 on the MacBookPro Retina.
The Camera RAW preferences Version on the older Mac Pro computer's identical copy of Bridge CS4 is Version 5.7.0.213.
I tried opening and installing a download of Camera_Raw_5_7.dmg from Adobe and I also tried dropping in the Camera Raw plugin file from the older computer but nothing works. I have emptied the cache several times.
I dont know if this is significant but when I first started trying to do this, I could not find the Plug-Ins folder in the Adobe file on the MacBook Pro Retina, so I copied the one from the Mac Pro's Adobe folder.
Please help. I can only use Bridge on my older desktop computer because of this problem.
    Thank you.
    Jan

Well, Jan, over the years I've helped many Mac users with this precise problem, and I even posted screen shots showing the path to the correct plug-in folder for ACR.  However, in your case all those images won't help and I won't be able to generate new ones for you for one simple reason: I do not use Mavericks and never will because my Mac Pro desktops cannot go above Lion, FORTUNATELY. Mavericks is still cr@p at this point.
All I can do is try to clarify a few misconceptions for you:
    AutoMatters wrote:
…I read that about the root level library when I first tried to follow the instructions from Adobe and I thought that I was doing exactly that. Instead of the library associated with my name, I found the library associated with my hard drive. I suspect that I have not yet even seen the root level library…
Jan, that is the ROOT LEVEL Library.
Getting back to your advice, I do not understand what you mean by mounting the .dmg file as if it were a DVD or external hard drive.
I mean just that.  A Disk Image file (.dmg) is a virtual disk, like a virtual DVD.  You double click on that file in the Finder and it will then mount just as if you had inserted a DVD into your computer.  It will then show you the contents it carries.  I will not be at my computers for a few weeks, so I can't be sure about all that the Disk Image for that update shows; but somewhere in there will be the ACR Plug-in.  That's what you need to copy from the Disk Image to your hard drive and install it in its correct location, NOT THE BLOODY .dmg file, for goodness sakes!
Do you understand that once you are at the ROOT LEVEL Library you DO NOT go to the Plug-ins folder therein?  Read the instructions again.  What you want is to continue the path through the Application Support folder /Adobe / Plug-ins / etc.
This old screen shot may help. Command or Control-Click on the thumbnail to see the full image in a new window, then scroll horizontally; it is a VERY wide image:
Also, if I delete the Plug-ins folder that I copied from my other computer's installation of Bridge CS4. Should I reinstall the entire CS4 suite from the original disks and start all over again. If so, I read somewhere that I will need to somehow deactivate my serial number from the products as installed on my MacBook Pro so that I may reinstall it.
Delete anything you may have copied yourself only if you are 100% sure what that is. But DO NOT REINSTALL ANYTHING without first uninstalling using the Adobe UNINSTALLER that was installed in your Utilities folder inside your Applications folder.
Whatever possessed you to go around copying folders from a different Mac OS version? ???  That is insane! Geez…
Why the heck do you keep talking about Bridge? ??? !!!  Bridge has absolutely NOTHING to do with the installation of ACR.  NOTHING!
ACR is installed at the OS level and can be hosted indistinctly by Photoshop or by Bridge from the same location.
Bridge is totally out of the loop in this discussion, just as it is when you are using ACR hosted by Bridge.  All Bridge does is call upon the appropriate application, whether this be Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), Illustrator or even Microsoft Word and hand it the file, period.  You could use ACR for years without ever launching Bridge, even without having Bridge installed. Ever.

  • Bridge CS4 will not Launch

Recently I tried to upgrade my Mac G4 Tower from OS 10.4 to OS 10.5 and it failed, even though I met all requirements. I had to reinstall 10.4 and now Bridge CS4 will not launch.  It worked fine before. I uninstalled PS CS4 and reinstalled it, I tossed prefs & cash files, I reset prefs but still no luck. Any suggestions before I strip down the whole HD and start from scratch?
    gardon4

Any suggestions before I strip down the whole HD and start from scratch?
My first go would be to buy a new HD and replace this with your current in
the G4 and give a clean install of 10.5 to try if it will work.
If you downgraded without a clean install from scratch you sure will end up
    with conflicting settings for applications.
You could try to back up all custom settings, actions, tools etc and then
deactivate the suite with erase serial number.
Then find the clean tool for Adobe
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs5clean.html
and run this script, it says CS5 but to my knowledge it also finds files for
the CS3 and CS4 suite. Do a search for any adobe files from user and system
library and delete those also. Then install the CS4 suite again.
But again to be honest, you are using a computer that in current digital
terms dates from the 'stone age' and in now way can cope with the needs for
the use of digital files nowadays. It might be wiser to try and find a used
MacPro (or even a used iMac with intel processor) that will give you much
more profit in speed, disk space and processing  instead of investing more
time and money in new disks and install procedures...

  • And again, Bridge not showing previews, CS4, very aggravating

I've tried all the stuff on Adobe's page about this, but like many others it's not solved my problem.  Did the LRoom 2.7 update and the ACR 5.7 update and since then Bridge CS4 only shows crappy icons instead of previews for RAW files.  I've tried everything, to no avail.
I'm hoping someone has found a solution for this, it's really a pain and I'm at wit's end.
    Thanks.

Thanks, and I've tried all those moves, and still the same thing.  Along with
Lightroom 2.7 I'm running Photoshop CS3 so I have two ACRs in the Plugins
folder since CS3 doesn't recognize the new ACR (5.7).  When ACR 5.6 was in
    there, all was fine.
There is your problem, you've messed up with the plug ins
Forgot about CS3 but I believe that ACR 4.x was the latest for that, CS4
needs 5.x (5.7 is the latest update) and they are not interchangeable.
You can only have one plugin per CS but you can have CS3, CS4 (and soon CS5)
as each one folder in the path for root library/AppSupport?Adobe/Plug Ins
containing the dedicated version of ACR plug in.
If you don't have CS4 but need Raw support for your files you should use the
free Adobe DNG Converter. After converting the originals to DNG you are able
to open them in the CS3 ACR window.
However keep in mind that ACR CS4 had a lot of benefit regarding highlight
recovery and fill light etc as CS5 will even have better results
Everything was working fine until the updates were done yesterday.  Even
stranger, when I first launched Bridge after the updating was done, I saw the
preview files for a second or two, then the icons replaced them as if by
magic.  Does Adobe have David Copperfield working for them now?
That is normal behavior and far from magic I'm afraid...
Every time you change settings in ACR or make a new default setting or start
using another ACR plug in the files need to rebuild the cache for thumbs and
preview. You only saw a glimpse of the old ones, the new ones should start
to rebuild but there is no plug in for reference anymore

  • Raw and TIFF Thumbnails Not Showing in Bridge CS4

    Hi,
I just bought Photoshop CS4 and installed.  I got an installation error and had to remove and reinstall CS4 (and ran the Mac Cleanup Utility in between).  Then, CS4 installed successfully.
Now, when I fire up Bridge CS4, I can preview JPG files, but not TIFF or RAW (*.NEF format from my D200) files.
Has this happened to anyone else and is there a fix I can apply?  I have installed known updates for CS4 and have purged the cache.
I have tried searching adobe and the online communities for this issue, but haven't been able to locate it.  The problem also applies to *.PSD documents.  I have also tried Tools>Cache>Purge Cach for Folder xxx and this doesn't fix things.
Thanks in advance for your advice!!!

    OK, I'm back already.
The bug was easily and instantly reproduced just as I wrote earlier:
With one of the lines under the thumbnails (thumbnail view in

Pixel Dimensions and Color Profile, respectively. I then invoked the
Global Purge cache command in Bridge CS4. Poof! The date created line

    blank. >:(

Thank goodness I had disconnected the FW drives.
I then went again and repeated the procedure one more time. The
Date Created line was again immediately left blank under all
    thumbnails.
    As far as I'm concerned,
the Global Purge cache command in Bridge Preferences in CS4 is broken
, just as it was in CS3 at least until someone tells me how to stop this from happening, reliably and consistently.

  • Web Gallery in Bridge CS4 not working

I've just started using the Web Gallery function in Bridge CS4. The output previews just fine, and loads perfectly from local disk in my browser. When I upload to my webspace, I get just a blank page.
I have contacted my ISP, who say that the problem lies with the Index.html file. They have run it through a validator at W3.org, and it comes back with multiple errors. i have no idea how to fix these errors, and in any case can't understand why it loads just fine from my hard drive, but not from my webspace.
Has anyone here had a similar issue?
    Thanks

Yeah, and I don't see a 'show file names' box on the templates I've looked at.
What I did was go into the group.xml file and I could find the TITLE tags and changed those to what I wanted for my caption.
Still seems somethings not right, since I had to manually add them.

  • Bridge CS4 not using newly installed Enhanced Image Processing Photoshop script

    Hi all,
Hope someone can help here.  We just added this Photoshop extention:  Enhanced Image Processor by Manovi to our Photoshop CS4's Presets/Scripts folder.  Here's my problem.  The new image processor opens and runs great - in Photoshop.  But when I'm in Bridge CS4 and choose Tools>Photoshop>Image Processor it opens/uses the old script.  Does Bridge cache this kind of thing or what's going on.
How can I get Bridge to use the new image processor?  (note:  Old script was replaced by new one in Photoshop's preset/scripts folder - the old one is no longer there - although we did save a copy of it elsewhere)
    Thanks

I don't have CS4… but in CS5 the paths to the files in Photoshop's scripts folder are coded into the functions that call them… Bridge reads these files on request evaluates them then runs… I would suspect the file name may differ from what it's looking for… Have you tried calling it the same and placing it in the same location? If this fails you may need someone to edit the Bridge startup script (not a job for the faint hearted)… Sorry but that ain't going to be me it uses localized strings don't understand them yet… Paul R may well say he can do it I don't know… So NOT cached… but possibly NOT read either in you case…
