Nothing in Applications folder of "Install.dmg"

I created a Netinstall nbi using System Image Utility on OS X server 10.4.7. My cloned Intel iMacs (10.4.7 w/firmware upgraded) don't contain my new applications from the master image. When I look inside the Applications folder of my mounted Install.dmg, I find that the Applications folder contains only the Utilities folder. Why aren't my master applications in the folder?
My image of the master machine works fine if I boot from firewire and use Restore to install, but I am having no luck with net installing from my OS X 10.4.7 server. Netinstall boot goes through the motions, but the Applications folder is not replaced with the Applications from my master when the the restoration is completed and the machine reboots.
What am I doing wrong?

• AE CS5 missing in Applications folder on install from Master Suite?

I saw it as an option on installation and installed it, but it doesn't show in my applications folder like the rest of the suite. What gives?
I also looked in the FAQ section and the installation section of the forums, but didn't find anything regarding this.
Im running an Intel 2.16 ghz duo and OS 10.6.8

• No access to Enturage application folder after installing Office 2004

I´m not sure this this the right forum, but when I ask Microsoft Enturage people, this is a Mac Tiger security/permission problem, and when I ask Apple people this is a Microsoft Enturage problem, so I don´t know.
So,my issue: I have just reinstalled my HD, using "archive & Install". After the installation, I installed Office 2004. Everything works fine (Word, Excel etc) extept for Enturage, I cannot run the application. The message I get after klicking the icon is:
"You do not have write access to the Enturage applocation folder. To run Enturage you must have the administrative user remove the Identities folder from the application folder."
I have an admin-user. I have not changed user (only me and the admin) during installation.
The reason for reinstalling my Mac was solely because of Enturage-problems, and now, after all this effort, it will still not work! This can make a person go insane!
I am not a very technical person, and will be very greatful for all help!

Did you shut down the database before moving files?I didn't move any files, I just copied some files to the other node.
Can you connect in sqlplus?Yes that was possible. I also had a connection to the database using TOAD.
After looking for the problem together with a colleague I've found out that I had to add some more listening addresses. The problem was that my nodes node1 and node2 have the IPs 10.10.10.2 and 10.10.10.3 but the virtual server of the cluster which forms the database oracledb for the clients runs on 10.10.10.103. So there was the name for e.g. node1 in the configuration files but also the IP-address 10.10.10.103 which the system couldn't resolve. After adding all possibilities using the Net Manager and after restarting the services it worked fine. At least until now. I haven't tried everything yet... I will go on tomorrow... thx so far.

• Where should 'Applications' folder be installed?

Hey all,
I recently did a back up and reformat of my HD.
Long story short, my Applications folder is NOT under my User folder, instead it's directly under the Hard Drive.
When I go to finder to locate it, it's location is right after the /. It simply says: /Applications instead of HD/User/Applications
Which brings me to my question: where is the 'Applications' folder normally? I could have sworn it has always been under the user folder, but it's simply not there. Also, if I were to go into the finder and simply move it from its current location and into my user folder, would that mess anything up? Would it duplicate files? If need be I can provide screen shots when I get home.
Thanks for any and all help!

In Snow leopard, it is at the root level of the hard drive, not in the Home Folder.
Note that the order of items shown in Places in the Sidebar is not hierarchical at all; they can be rearranged to suit one's wishes, To wit -
All you need do is free-drag (no modifier key needed) any that you wish to move.
For further affirmation, if you select the Applications item under Places and have the Path Bar visible, it can be seen that that Applications folder is at the root level of the drive -

• Cannot install new applications IN applications folder. Why?

Dear Fellow Mac users,
This week I have tried to install 2 new applications to my Powermac G5 which runs Panther 10.3.9. The applications were Firefox (for this version of OS X, of course), and Skype. BOTH applications downloaded fine--when I double click to launch the dmg file I get this window which prompts me to drag the install file off the deskop into the applications folder. THIS is where the problems begin: I can't get it to work! Instead a 'shortcut' is made in the applications folder--to the dmg file which INSISTS on staying on the desktop--like it's a hard disk volume or something! Weird. So I gave up trying to install Skype. I got Firefox to work this way, but it *****...it runs like crap this way. Why is this happening and what do I have to do to fix it??? Oh--and one other maybe useful bit of information: last January 2007 I put this computer into long term storage when I went overseas...it wasn't until just two weeks ago that I came back, brought it out of its box and started it back up again. At first everything seemed to run fine...except Safari, which began to continually crap out and crash at start up...hence my deleting it entirely and going for Firefox. That's when I first noticed this apparent inability to install applications properly. Please, somebody heeeeeelp! I am so stressed out by this! Thanks so much in advance, Steve

It is a mounted disk volume. Open the item on the desktop and drag the application inside to the Applications folder; if you see a brown package icon instead, double-click it and follow the onscreen directions.

• Muse will not launch after update. App is not in Application folder

Muse update indicates it was installed but no were to be found. Launch App nothing happens. Nothing in Application folder. ????

Are you still having a problem with Muse launching?

• I have tried to download Mavericks on my 2010 iMac(10.6.8), but nothing happens, not even the install app downloads, also I tried to download chrome, I moved it to the applications folder and when I opened the folder it wasn't there

I have tried to download Mavericks on my 2010 iMac(10.6.8), but nothing happens, not even the install app downloads, also I tried to download chrome, I moved it to the applications folder and when I opened the folder it wasn't there. I have a 1tb hard drive that is mostly empty. By the way I just got this imac used from a reseller.

Mavericks downloads into the Applications folder, where you can install it. Some Mac App Store Troubleshooting information and how to resume a download that was interrupted; some of the information here might get you an answer. Failing that, try contacting Apple Support.

• Just installed Firefox 7.0.1 on a Mac running OSX 10.6.8 - the installation Disc icon remians on the desktop and each time I launch, Firefox opens a window asking me to drag the Firefox icon to my Applications folder. How do I get this to go away?

I have installed the application to my applications folder and everything else is working perfectly. But normally, after you've installed a browser, the istallation disk icon that appears on your desktop can be ejected or deleted without detriment. Mine keeps coming back...

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the DMG file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.

• Installed update of Firefox, but cannot drag into applications folder, it indicates that "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges", so how can I complete the install?

I try to drag the app into the applications folder where an old app of firefox exists and it asks me if I want to replace it and after i say yes it gives me the operation cannot be completed message.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
*Firefox 9.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

• I cannot install an application in the Applications folder without removing it first

For some time now, I have noticed that I cannot install an application into the application folder without first removing it from the folder. If I try to install it by dragging the icon to the application folder, I get a warning that the application can't be moved because the folder "Applications" can't be modified. I click on authenticate and enter the root username and password. I am warned that the application already exists in the location. I am asked if I want to replace the item. The options presented are "Keep both files", "Stop", and "Replace". I choose "Replace". I am then prompted for an administrator's name and password. I enter "root" and the root password. I then get this lengthy error message:
The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again.
I checked the permissions and "locked" was already deselected. The permissions grant my regular user read and write permissions, "staff" read-only, and "everyone" read-only. If I add "admin" with read and write permissions, nothing changes, i.e. I get the same error. If I try to enter my user credentials, they are rejected. My user is not an admin user. Previously, when I enterered the root username and password, the operation would complete successfully.
Now if I first remove the application from the Applications folder, then drag the application to the folder, I am prompted for an administrator's name and password. When I enter it, the application is copied successfully.
I have tried fixing file and directory permissions from the disk utility, but that doesn't fix the problem.

When you say, "locked" was already deselected, I take it that you mean the small icon at the bottom right of the Get Info window displayed an open lock picture.
Have you tried locking it, then unlocking it again? I expect you will be able to lock it by simply clicking on the open lock icon, but to unlock it again you will need to supply an Admin password.
Odd that DU didn't fix it. That would be my first thought also. Suggest trying it again, if you haven't already done so.
Speaking of DU, have you verified your HDD?
My Applications folder permissions read -
System Read and Write
admin Read and Write
everyone Read only

I reinstalled operating system software on my MacBook Air (Yosemite 10.10.3) and tried reinstalling Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. I was able to install the software into my Applications folder but I was unable to enter the serial number or go any further with the installation. When I click on the Adobe Acrobat icon in the Applications folder, nothing happens.

Hi Tom,
kindly check the System requirements | Acrobat family of products—older versions (XI, X, 9)
For serial number message try:
Error "Invalid serial number" | Acrobat 9 | CS4

• I installed Lion OS X and Logic Pro won't run. I downloaded the 9.1.5 update: "An Eligible Logic Pro Version Was Not Found in the Applications Folder. This Update require Logic Pro Version 9.0 or higher". I have Logic Pro Version 9.1.1 installed.

I even pulled the dmg file into the Logic Studio folder in my applications directory and it still does not recognize it. What do I do now?

Niel: Thanks.
For others benefit, here is what happened.
I had installed Logic Studio 9.1 some time ago.......not knowing what all the programs were nor what they did, I created a "Logic Studio" subfolder in my applications folder and put all Logic Studio programs into it so I'd know where they were and could review each at my leisure over time.
My assumption now is that when the updater looks for the Logic Pro program, it looks only in the applications folder. It seems lame that it would not also look in the subfolders of the applications folder, but that apparently IS the way it works. Because my Logic Pro program was located in the "Logic Studio" subfolder, the updater just didn't see it..hence the error message I received when I tried to update.
Solution: I moved all the Logic Studio programs out of the subfolder and now they reside in the applications folder. Ran the 9.1.5 updater and it worked like a charm.

• Installed third party applications not showing Application folder?

Hi,
i've installed third party application outside from AppStore. i chosen "Anywhere" option on Gate keeper. however its not proper installation process hence how can i install? if i install third party application which is get .DMG file from some one else and installed. if i install those application its not displaying inside the Application folder on my Mac OS X 10.8.3.
Please anyone suggest me,
Thanks in Advance,
Suresh Balakrishnan.

if i double click on Xcode icon, Xcode application lauched immediatly. however Xcode is not there in the Application folder.
Because you didn't drag and drop copy the app into the Applications folder, so your running it from the DMG instead.
A DMG is basically a disk image volume, like any other seperate hardware volume like a USB thumb drive, a external hard drive, or another partition, except it's virtual and based all in software.
If you don't know your way around a computer you shouldn't be using Xcode to begin with.
