NSURLError Domain - 1005 (-1005)

After an upgrade (it seems) to 10.4.10, the software download for iTunes and two security updates craps out after download with this error message. Any clues? I use a broadband wireless internet connection and have for some time with absolutely no issues.

Oh, sorrry, if you thought that then I can see why you'd think I was only being distracting. I guess I wasn't clear: I'm getting exactly the same error under exactly the same circumstances as Dillonsdaddy. That's how I found this thread in the first place... searching for iTunes and 1005. Reviewing my post I can see I may have been confusing by using the word "download" where I should have used the word "install." Software update downloads the file but errors out right at the end when it trys to start installing the update. I was originally confused because the reported total file size of 34 MB actually changes to 32.7 in the status area while it's being downloaded. It actually gets to 32.7 MB of 32.7 MB just before giving the NSURLError Domain - 1005 (-1005) error.
I explained my wireless setup because it seems to match the setup mentioned in the original post, since he's also using a wireless broadband card. Neither Dillonsdaddy nor myself are using WiFi for our connection... we're using wireless broadband from a mobile phone provider.
I mentioned Mail because I've also found similar network errors being blamed for some of the symptoms I'm seeing there. I know this is not a Mail thread, I'm simply pointing out that there may be a relationship involved in the problem that someone who knows Macs better than I do might find useful. I believe if you don't tell the doctor all the symptoms you shouldn't get upset if the doctor misdiagnoses the problem.
Regarding your proposed solution:
1. I searched Google before I searched these forums and most of the stuff I found on Google pertained to issues with Firewall and wireless router setups, which is probably also the source of what you suggested, but which isn't relevant to either Dillonsdaddy or myself, unless we want to call Sprint and tell them their firewall is messed up... which may actually be the case, but which they're not probably going to take seriously from end users.
2. I don't actually have a "manual" connection to try in place of my cellular modem and if I did, that's merely a work-around and doesn't solve whatever the real issue is.

Open the Mail, Contacts & Calendars preference pane in System Preferences, and select Facebook. Make a note of the settings for the account, then delete it from the list.
Then follow the instructions on this page: Resetting the SyncServices folder.
Log out, log back in, and recreate the account settings in System Preferences. See whether there's any improvement.

  • Software Updates - NSURLErrorDomain -1005 (-1005)

I am unable to update software. I keep on getting the following error message: NSURLErrorDomain -1005 (-1005)- What does this mean?
I am prompted to check the network connection. I have checked the connection and there is nothing wrong (as far as I can tell) - I am able to download other files without any problems: the issue seems to be specific to the update program.
What can I do to get update to work? Failing that, is there any way to download update files directly (i.e without using the software update program)?
    Thnx
    J

I have been having the same problem, I never did figure out what it was. I deleted prefs and caches, I replaced the Software Update application, nothing worked. It fails with the same error whether you just click the install button or if you try to download only or install and keep. After other issues appeared, I did a fresh install of Tiger and the problem was gone for a while. Now when I tried to download the firmware update, the problem is back. The update is reported as being 3.2MB in size, but after the download starts the total size is no longer listed and it only reports how much has been downloaded so far. I never noticed a problem like this before 10.4.10, but I'm not sure what else is there that could be causing problems. Disk Utility isn't reporting any problems and I don't see any other odd behavior at this time. As I mentioned earlier in the post, I had other problems the first time before I reinstalled. I don't know if it was related to this problem, but the system was acting very strangely. Random crashes, and windows and dialogs with incorrect text or strange graphics like a corrupted image where the normal error or status dialogs would be.

  • A networking error has occurred: Error NSURLErrorDomain -1005 (-1005).

Tiger 10,4,10 6 wks old, new Mac user. Believed I had a hacker, Genius Bar disconnected bluetooth and Wifi. 35 pass erase, reinstallation. While in the process of updating, everything updated (at least 7 items) EXCEPT iLife Support version 8.1 which gave me this error:
"A networking error has occurred: Error NSURLErrorDomain -1005 (-1005). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again."
I have tried numerous times, still get this message. Any information?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I have gotten that error numerous times both with my iBook and with my MBP. I connect using the internal modem on the iBook and the external modem on the MBP using dial up. I have always just assumed it was a problem with the telephone line but I don't really know. I just keep trying and eventually I get a successful download. But I am curious about this too.

  • NSURLErrorDomain-1005 when trying to update software

I have twelve MacBooks all running OS X 10.4.11 in my classroom. I need to update them all. SU repeated gives me this:
    "A networking error has occurred:
    Error NSURLErrorDomain-1005 (-1005).
Make sure you can connect to the
    Internet, then try again."
Well, I can connect to the Internet so that isn't the issue. Over lunch, I tried updating my flat panel iMac running 10.4.11 at home, and it worked perfectly. So far, two of the MacBooks have behaved this way. This is not a permissions issue (but yes, I've repaired permissions and checked the disk for failures...nothing turned up). I've deleted plist files and that didn't help. This is not a corrupted disk issue. I've scoured this forum and used Google to try to find an answer, but no one seems to have found a definitive fix for this. Is the only workaround installing the updates manually? That's going to be tough for twelve computers and classes beginning on Monday. Upgrading to Leopard is not an option.
Any suggestions that don't involve repairing permissions?

    Joe Heafner wrote:
… does this mean that Software Update is officially fried on these machines from now on?
No. It is just that if you have a dubious connection it is better to do the download under your control and check it properly. There is still the same probability of the connection being dropped, but you can retry, perhaps at a less busy moment.
After manual download, be sure to verify the digest:
Mac OS X: How to Verify a SHA-1 Digest
Mac OS X: About SHA-1 Digest and Software Downloads
(This is done automatically when you use Software Update).

  • Why am I getting error message when trying to send attachments?

I am having a time sending attachments, and most of them have been jpeg, with Safari. After a time when I push "send", I get a message that "Safari cannot open the page". It then says" "lost network connection" (NSURLerror Domain-1005")
How can I correct this, please ? Is there anything I haven't done to prevent this? I am fairly new to the Mac OSX, and still learning .....thanks !!!
This has happened when I have scanned something and then tried to send it, or just tried to send something that was downloaded from my Manager to my desktop...

I am "wired" and at home when this occurs. I actually sent some things...saved to my desktop, and attached them to a letter I sent my Sis, and she got the pictures that way. I was surprised she got them, as it still said that Safari could not open the page and then it gave me the same message about "lost network connection: INSURErrorDomain-1005.

  • Dial-up line download problems

I've just installed 10.4.10 and would like to upgrade to 10.4.11. The "Software update" recommends Quicktime 7.5 @52MB, iTUNES@45MB, JAVA 10.4 release 5@81MB and 10.4.11 COMBO@70MB. When attempting to download the COMBO package as the first step, using a dial up line, it aborts with the error message "NSURLError Domain - 1005 (-1005)". This, after about 6 hours of a projected 7 hour download! My ISP provider has not terminated the session; and the PPP option to suspend after x minutes has been disabled.
    1. Does anyone know what the message means?
    2. Is there a way to get these updates in pieces rather than in entirety? (Panther bookmarked downloads and restarted (appended) subsequent attempts to download a given file).

*Hi Vince, Welcome* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
In addition the BD's excellent list, add Apple Service Provider. Take a smile.

  • Download error messages

Attempting my latest software updates, the downloads stop before the full file arrives, with messages: "The update can't be installed - networking error has occurred. Timed out (-1001)" or "Error NSURLError Domain - 1005 (-1005)". These messages ended all attempts to download QT 7.3.1. (51.1mb) and Java Release 6 (80.7mb). Repaired permissions, run MacJanitor, run fsck but no effect. What do error messages 1001 and 1005 signify? What's happened and how to fix?

Aha! It's starting to look very much like a fault with Apple's server! I connected my ethernet cable to my iBook and tried to download QT 7.3.1. update for Panther. The connection was made OK and the download began. But when it got to 49.2mb out of the 50.9mb, the download hung. Then strangely, the connection speed indicated on the download form started to go backwards, and the time to completion increased from 11 secs to 12, 13,14,16, when I stopped it. This was exactly what was happening with the Quicksilver when connecting through Software Update - as though the speed was being sucked out of the line! Has anyone else encountered this problem - if it's not Apple, it could only be a fault in my broadband modem - but all my other internet connections work perfectly. Answers please?

  • Software Update Erratic

    Hi All
I have been successfully running a standalone 10.4.10 OS X Server (Intel) on our PC-centric corporate network for some time. Software Update service was functioning fine. Recently, our network infrastructure was upgraded to greatly improve speed. Also, port security was implemented (one machine per hole in the wall - no switch boxes allowed). Come to think of it, our proxy server has also been upgraded fairly recently too. Since then, my Software Update service has been unreliable.I correctly downloads all the latest updates. However, when a Mac first downloads a new update the Software Updater displays something like
Update 123 downloading xxxMB of ----
    where normally one would expect
Update 123 downloading xxxMB of 35MB
In other words, the local machine doesn't know the size of the update. After downloading the verification fails and the machine reports an error something like
    "Error NSURLError Domain -1005 (-1005)"
and this goes on ad infinitum.
My first attempt at a fix was to throttle back the bandwidth available to software update at the XServer to an upper limit of 3MB/s. After doing this I still got the above problem (local machine didn't know how big the download was) and the associated error the first time I attempted to download a new download. However, at the second attempt, the downloads would invariably happen normally - although the latest iTunes (7.3.2?) update is unreliable on every Mac I try it on, sometime taking 5 or 6 attempts to download and install.
I see the same behaviour whichever of my two XServes I use for software update, and whichever Mac I attempt the updates on - ie this problem is not an XServe or Local Mac issue, but is related to the way our IT friends have set up the network.
Any suggestions how to overcome this flakey behaviour?
    Thanks in advance
    Dave Mitchell

    Hi Tony
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I had read that article previously, though it is not clear to me that I am failing to meet these requirements. I am no expert and so would appreciate any thoughts.
The DNS registration/resolves correctly issue - prior to my network hardware update, all was fine. Currently, my clients find the XServe and access the updates - just not sensibly - unless I throttle things back.
Proxy - my Xserve is negotiating this fine and is downloading updates.
Servers and ports - as above.
Dedicated network connection to the internet - as above.
    Thanks and regards

  • Updating to 10.4.6-complaint

In an attempt to update my G4 iBook from 10.4.2 to 10.4.6, I turned on the download last night and expected it to be finished this AM. After 12 hours and 49 min. being online (dialup), this is the message I got.
"The update Mac X Update Combined Power PC can't be installed.
    A networking error has occurred.
Error NSUKLE Error Domain -1005 (-1005)
Make sure you can connect to the internet and try again."
What!!!! Another 12 hours 49 min. again for nothing? What's wrong with this picture? I used the software update from the Apple icon in the menu bar at the top. Like always. I'm still connected to the net. I haven't shut it off since 9PM last night. I don't understand this "make sure you are connected..." when I am connected.
I think Apple should have updates on CD available for those of us who can't download. They used to give out versions of OS8. Unfortunately I have to use dialup because that's all my area in the country has.
So how do I get the update, or so I just get along any old way?
    G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Hi, Anne.
Apple hasn't released an update on CD in some time. When they did, if memory serves, the CDs were $19.95 plus tax. I suggest you submit a Mac OS X Feedback concerning making Tiger updates available on CD.
    Based on the following:
"The update Mac X Update Combined Power PC can't be installed."
It looks like you tried to download the full Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo Update from the Downloads page. True? Or did you try using Software Update?
The 10.4.6 Combo Update for PPC is 140 MB, quite large for dial-up. Your dial-up connection probably dropped during the process or your ISP may limit the size of your downloads.
You could try downloading the individual "delta" updates, e.g. 10.4.3, 10.4.4, etc. though the 10.4.3 delta update is 97 MB, still a bit challenging for dial-up. I have links to all of the individual delta updates in my "Mac OS X Standalone Updates" FAQ, or you can find them individually by searching Downloads. For 10.4.6, be sure to select the PPC version.
Here are some ideas for obtaining large updates if you do not have broadband or your ISP restricts the size of your downloads:
    • If there is an Apple Retail Store in your area, visit them and bring a CD-R or CD-RW disc with you — or buy a pack there — and they'll let you download and burn the required Delta or Combo Update there in the store. All the stores have broadband.
    • If you're not near an Apple Retail Store, perhaps a sympathetic local Apple Authorized Service facility with broadband would do the same.
    • If you have a friend who is using Mac OS X and has broadband, work with them to download the required Delta or Combo Update and burn it to CD.
Once you have a CD with the Update, copy the Update to your desktop and run it. It cannot be run from the CD.
Note that some of the information above is from page 477 of the "Software Update" chapter of my book, Troubleshooting Mac® OS X, Tiger Edition.
    Good luck!

  • Unable to Update, or find this error message anywhere

The last few (maybe 4-6) times I've run Software Update I get the following error AFTER the download completes, which is particularly annoying since I'm on a dial up connection:
A networking error has occurred: Error NSURLErrorDomain -1005 (-1005).
The only update available is iTunes. The latest output from Console is:
    2007-09-29 19:13:29.192 Software Update[369] session:product:061-3923 didFailWithError:NSError "Error NSURLErrorDomain -1005" Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1005 UserInfo={

    Has anyone else experienced this?
The other Mac in my house is having the same problem, it is trying to update iTunes and Final Cut Express, so I doubt it's specific to the iTunes update.
    Thanks in advance.

Try a different DNS server ..
    Quit the App Store.
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
    Click + and type:
    208.67.222.222
Click + again and do the same.
    208.67.220.220
    Click Ok.
Relaunch the App Store and try updating your software.

  • Updates download impossible ??

Since I bought the new MacBookPro 17inch, I am trying to download the updates without succes. I constantly have this error message at the end of the download : Can't be installed "Error NSURLE Error Domain -1005 (-1005)"
Does anyone know what that means ??? Could it be because of an unstable internet connection ? I am in the Maldives and it can be sometimes unstable but I am going on internet without problems !
    Thanks for your insight.
    JM

As far as I know that's an RSS Feed error message ... but why you're getting it from a download stumps me.
Are you using a proxy server, or is your ISP ?
Have you a Safari RSS feed set from the same site ?
Try turning RSS Off or disable RSS in Safari ?
Does the same happen with Firefox/Camino ?
    ... grasping at straws
Is this from Software Update itself, if so try going to the Apple support downloads page and grab the file from there ?

  • MacBook Pro will not update to Keynote 3.0.1

After learning of the update to Keynte, I immediately went to software updater and found it there with an update to Pages and Garage Band. When I downloaded the updates, Garageband and Pages updated without a snafu, however there was a red asterik next to the Keynotes update. I also got the following warning:
