NT Service and Heap size

Can someone tell me if there is a way to :
(1) verify and modify heap size in nt service?
(2) in multi server mode, there are two nt services for weblogic
domains, is it needed to change heap size for weblogicAdmin service for
heap size increase? What will happen if PIA is 1024MB heap size and
weblogicAdmin is 256MB?

Nicolas, test show that once the nt service is installed, modifying heap
size in setenv.cmd and run setenv.cmd file reinstall nt service does not
change the heap size already in registry. So, test shows that I can
modify the heap size directly in registry and restart service?. Am i doing something wrong here.. can i correct and only to modify and existing heap size in
registry?
Please let me know what else should I do once the old heap
size in already in registry and not the new heap size when reinstalled NT service.
other question, long the weblogic tuning, I found the following from bea site. During the peak time, we may have 40000 unique users per day. Should I also consider increase maxUserPort? The weblogic domains are hosted on windows 2003 servers.
Windows Tuning Parameters
For Windows platforms, the default settings are usually sufficient. However, under sufficiently heavy loads it may be necessary to adjust the MaxUserPort and TcpTimedWaitDelay. These parameters determine the availability of user ports requested by an application.
By default, ephemeral (that is, short-lived) ports are allocated between the values of 1024 and 5000 inclusive using the MaxUserPort parameter. The TcpTimedWaitDelay parameter, which controls the amount of time the OS waits to reclaim a port after an application closes a TCP connection, has a default value of 4 minutes. During a heavy loads, these limits may be exceeded resulting in an address in use: connect exception. If you experience address in use: connect exceptions try setting the MaxUserPort and TcpTimedWaitDelay registry values under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters key:
MaxUserPort = dword:00004e20 (20,000 decimal)
TcpTimedWaitDelay = dword:0000001e (30 decimal)
Increase the value of the MaxUserPort parameter if the exception persists.

  • NetBeans and Heap Size

    I'm trying to write a program using NetBeans and I keep getting OutOfMemoryErrors. I have 2GB of RAM and I've attempted to modify the netbeans.conf file to increase the heap size at startup. The changes I've made aren't being reflected in the memory manager tool (it still indicates a maximum size of ~50MB). The pertinent code from the config file is as follows:
    netbeans_default_options="-J-Xms512m -J-Xmx1024m -J-XX:PermSize=128m -J-XX:MaxPermSize=512m -J-Xverify:none -J-Dapple.laf.useScreenMenuBar=true -J-XX:NewSize256m"
    Assuming my memory usage won't exceed these limits, any suggestions as to how to make sure the changes are being implemented?

    I would subscribe to the netbeans user mail list, and pose your question to that list. The Sun Netbeans gurus live there.
    I would also use a seperate email account to subscribe to the list as it generates alot of messages daily. If thats not an option, definatly try to set up a rule that seperates messages from the list from your regular email.

    I’ve read in the best practices document that the recommended heap size (without JVM GC tuning) is 512M. It also indicates that GC tuning, object number/size, and hardware configuration play a significant role in determining what the optimal heap size is. My particular Coherence implementation contains a static data set that is fairly large in size (150-300k per entry). Our hardware platform contains 16G physical RAM available and we want to dedicate at least 1G to the system and 512M for a proxy instance (localstorage=false) which our TCP*Extend clients will use to connect to the cache. This leaves us 14.5G available for our cache instances.
    We’re trying to determine the proper balance of heap size vs num of cache instances and have ended up with the following configuration. 7 cache instances per node running with 2G heap using a high-units value of 1.5G. Our testing has shown that using the Concurrent Mark Sweep GC algorithm warrants no substantial GC pauses and we have also done testing with a heap fragmentation inducer (http://www.azulsystems.com/e2e/docs/Fragger.java) which also shows no significant pauses.
    The reason we opted for a larger heap was to cut down on the cluster communication and context switching overhead as well as the administration challenges that 28 separate JVM processes would create. Although our testing has shown successful results, my concern here is that we’re straying from the best practices recommendations and I’m wondering what others thoughts are about the configuration outlined above.

    Hi,
    Using the command below:
    java -jar -Xms128m myjar.jar
    I get the following errors:
    "Error occurred during initialization of VM"
    "Incompatiable initial and maximum heap sizes specified"
    but if I take off the initial heap size parameter, just run:
    java -jar myjar.jar
    it works fine apart from that the heap size is not desired.
    Can anyone please tell me what's the cause of the problem here? I'm suspecting the JVM has been configured to restrict manual adjustment of heap sizes...

  • How to increase Memory and Java Heap Size for Content Server

    Hi,
    My content server is processing requests very slowly. Over performance is not good. I have 2 GB of RAM any idea what files I can modify to increase the Java Heap Size for the Content Server. If I increase the RAM to 4 or 6 GB where do I need to make changes for the Java Heap Size and what are the recommended values. I just have Content Server Running on the linux box. Or how do I assign more memory to the user that owns the content server install.

  • Heap size and 3 table update

    I am new to this area so sorry if my questions will sound stupid to somebody. Recently I started developing an application using Toplink, ADF Databinding, struts and JSP. Curretnly the application is using 1 view built on 3 tables.
    QUESTION 1: First time when I tried to test the browse page I got the error messages from JDeveloper saying "JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError, msg=null". So I limited number of records selected by the view just to 500 and the query worked. I guess it is somehow related to java heap size. How can I change the heap size. The application is run locally on my PC.
    QUESTION 2: In this application I am trying to update 3 tables at the same time using a view. But when I try do it I am getting error saying "data manipulation operation non legal on this view error code 1732". Is there any way I can do this simultaneous update of 3 tables through the view?

  • Problem increasing heap size using Java Control Panel

    I am running a web-based bioinformatics package which uses a Java applet as the client application. It mostly works fine, but some large clustering processes don't complete, they just cycle endlessly. The user manual advises increasing heap space "by entering the following command in the Java Control Panel or Java Plug-in dialog: -Xms128M -Xmx256M." I can open the Java Control Panel OK and enter the necessary command in the Java Runtime Parameters box, but after clicking OK then Apply, the Runtime Parameters box is empty again and there is no increase in the heap size allocation. In other words, the change doesn't take effect.
    I have already tried: adjusting one parameter at a time (max heap size first, then min); changing uppercase to lowercase M (-Xmx256m); restarting the browser after the change; rebooting my PC - none of these has helped.
    Technical details: it's Java 6 standard edition, build 1.6.0_10-rc-b28; browser is Internet Explorer 7; operating system is Vista (Service Pack 1); PC is a 2.4 GHz processor with 2 GB RAM (so I have plenty available to allocate to Java). I have local admin privilege on my PC.
    Help would be much appreciated, as I really need to complete these cluster analyses. I'm a biologist not a developer, so ideally I need a solution that doesn't involve major programming, though I'm OK with registry edits and use of the command line. Thanks in advance.

    The failure to retain the parameters is a bug, per hdong in this [Java,net thread|http://forums.java.net/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=44540&tstart=0] dated August 14
    "I did a little more research and found out that the problem is only with "-rc" or "-beta" versions of plugin. When 1.6.0_10 is finally released, the version string will be "1.6.0_10". Plugin works fine to set/get jvm parameters when version string is "1.6.0_10".
    I am surprised that this issue was not discovered earlier. It was probably because the internal test binary use "1.6.0_10" as version string.

  • Bulk batch Jax-WS web services and memory concerns

    I have a requirement to create a web service client to upload 150,000+ records from our database.  My main question is whether others are creating web services to process bulk data and how they handle memory concerns.
    I began with the standard API, populating the jax-b annotated beans created from the wsimport.  I used JConsole to analyze memory usage.  I noticed that there is a sharp spike in the plot of the heap usage (from 200MB to 800MB) right after the invoke method call.
    The problem is that the max heap size on our app server is set to 1GB and since this application shares it with other applications I keep getting a out of memory error.
    I was asked to look for alternatives, so I tried using the Dispatch API creating the payload by sub-tree marshaling to StAX.  The issue I then ran into is that I have a outputstream and the dispatch api is expecting an inputstream.  I tried the options found here http://ostermiller.org/convert_java_outputstream_inputstream.html
    However after using jconsole to analyze again it appears the writing to a temp file or using a byte array increases the amount of memory being used to almost equivalent of using the standard API.  I tried using piped streams in separate threads and the single threaded circular buffer methods, but the application seems to hang after the invoke method call.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    also, you could "page" the data, returning some max number of records in each page of data and a "next page" cookie. this is the standard approach to returning bulk data from a web service.

  • How to increase the heap size of the container in whioch BPEL is running ?

    I recently raised an SR they have asked me to do the following,
    Can you please try and start the container running the BPEL process with max
    heap space (-Xmx) of 2 GB and the eden space (-Xmn) at about 60% of 1228m and
    the option -XX:+AggressiveHeap set. (even though this option is recommended for
    multi processor machines say 4)

    Hi Deepak I cant see any attribute or element in the oc4j_opmn.xml file regarding heap memory. In the server properties I changed the size of heap memeory how can I rollback.

  • Heap size memory error on WebI Reports

    Hello,
    I'm developping my own JDBC driver to report specific data in Business Objects. I've actually an universe build on this driver and a web intelligence report. When I try to request I've an heap size error due to the size of my jvm. My JBDC driver is deployed thanks to a jar file. Normally I can increase jvm size with the argument -Xmx256M in command-line.
    I tried several things :
    I modified register HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Session Manager/Subsystems, SharedSection to 1024,3072,1024
    I passed Tomcat's memory to 1024, I can't more because I'm on 32 bits on Windows Server 2003.
    I tried to add MAX_HEAP_SIZE=1024000000 on webi.properties in c:\programfiles\Tomcat\webapps\businessobjects\enterprise115\desktoplaunch\WEB-INF\classes\, as explained on a post,but this directory doesn't exist, but there is 4 different webi.properties files one in C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat55\webapps\PerformanceManagement\WEB-INF\lib so I added max heap size parameter in this one.
    I improved my JDBC-driver to avoid memory leak, and BO requests to limit results.
    But I still have an heap size error.
    Some people have other ideas to solve my problem ?

    2. Check objects and Conditions.
    3. If you found any changes then re-export your universe and run queries.
    Once everything goes fine then Schedule the report.

    From forms we are writing to excel files after copying XL template using Apache POI 3.5 and JDK 1.5. This XL template file has got lot of macros.
    We have imported the Java class files into form as pl/sql library. We are able to write upto 7Mb size of XL file. Beyond that size it comes with the error Ora-105101.
    We tried to increase the JVM Heap Size to 640M by setting values -Xmx640M everywhere in OC4J_BI_FORMS/Server Properties/Java Options, Home/Server Properties/Java Options through Enterprise Manager console. Also manually set the values in OPMN.XML and reloaded the same. Also set -Xmx640M in Jinitiator 1.3.1.30 Java Runtime Parameters. Also set in Java console. All settings have no effect.
    We have written a small program to display the run time memory from forms, which displays only maximum memory 63M all the time.

    When the size of XL is more than 7Mb, after message(0) it will be display oracle error.
    From command prompt if we run the same java class file by passing -Xmx256m parameter we are able to write to big XL file.

    I have a simular problem.
    Via Forms I call a Java class (import Java class -> PL/SQL class java method).
    For this specific process I need to set the Xmx java option...
    How do I do this ?
    Changing the java option for the Forms-OC4J in the EM doesn't help.
    Is there an other level where I can modify this ?
    Does the java process of the forms is the single process that exists ? How does he handles such java calls?
    Are that separed java processes ? threads ? ....

    I am getting the below error while deploying some soa applications in WLS 10.3 on solaris platform.As a workaround,
    the server instance has to be restarted everytime i make the deployments when i face this OOM situations.
    usually i face this issue after first deployment onwards.
    So, everytime i make the next deployment the server instance has to be restarted before that.
    The server is configured with 1Gb JVM and runs on JRockit jrrt-4.0.0-1.6.0.

  • "Could not create the Java virtual machine." when max-heap-size is 926Mb

    We received "Could not create the Java virtual machine." when the max-heap-size provided exceeded 926 Mb in XP PC. We found the below mentioned link which confirms that this is a bug

    But the problem is that the issue does not get recreated in all the XP PCs. Increasing the max heap size to greater than 926 works fine in some XP PCs.
    Could there be any configuration related issues for this problem...

    If you can't find any difference in your java versions or overall runtime configurations, it's quite possible that the bug doesn't have the complete picture--it might be more subtle than the conditions described. Maybe it works with certain versions of certain lower level DLLs. Maybe it has some dependency on which services are running. Maybe the order in which certain components got installed put one version of something vs. another further ahead in a CLASSPATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, etc. variable.
    Or maybe it's as simple as you're not running the version of Java you think you are on all those boxes, as jschell suggests.
    Regardless of the reason why it happens to work on some configurations, you found that it fails on some, and that failure is in fact a known bug. So it shouldn't surprise you that it fails at least sometimes, and the fact that it works sometimes has been rendered irrelevant. Unless you're doing research into the specific cause of this issue.

  • Heap sizes with Planning11.1.1.3 & Weblogic help

    I'm used to having the xms and xmx heap sizes in the registry with planning. But i installed Planning 11.1.1.3 with weblogic 9.2 (all 32 bit) and deployed as a service. However, the registry does not have the usually heap settings automatically added. I can modify the setDomainEnv script to bump up heap sizes but running that script leaves the command window running in the foreground which is something i don't want. I tried manually adding the heap size settings to the Hyperion Planning registry settings, but they are not taking effect when starting the web server via the services console. Anyone have any ideas. I peaked around the web logic admin console but i didnt really want to try and set the heap sizes through there. plus, i'm not sure any settings in there will take effect when starting from the service console. I thought all the arguments for a service are derived from the registry.

    Are the heap sizes already present in your planning registry setting? Did you use the jrockit jvm or the sun jvm when configuring Weblogic. I'm trying to track down what caused my install not to create the heap size jvmoption in my registry. I know Weblogic recommends using the jrockit jvm for performance reasons, but if i can't get the planning service to run with larger heaps, i may have to change jvms. Having the planning web running in the foreground seems to risky for me (someone logging out and shutting down any running windows).We are using Jrockit JVM and the heap size setup is around 1GB.
    As John mentioned, 1.8GB may be the max even though you are using 64bit version.
