Number keys not working

The numbers in the pad to the right of my keyboard suddenly stopped working. The surrounding characters still work. Additionally, if I use the zero, my computer freezes. Any ideas? Thanks

You may have pressed Option five times in a row, thus turning on Mouse Keys. You can turn it off (and disable the quintuple Option key command) in the "Mouse" pane of "Universal Access" system preference.

  • Number keys not working on a MacBookPro11,3

My machine is a 15-inch Retina MBP, late  2013 running OS X 10.9.4.
The number pad  on an external keyboard works. Regular number keys on an external keyboard do not.
The problem affects all ten digits, not just 1-9. All he computer does is give me an alert chirp when I press them.
Number keys work in single user mode, so this is  some kind of software issue.
    Mouse Keys is off.
I'm not using text to speech.
I can click the keys in the Keyboard Viewer, except for the number keys. They chirp too.
I reinstalled the system and it didn't solve the problem.
Oddly, number keys DO work if I'm typing into a password field.
I've searched this board as well as the internet to no avail. Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • Magic mouse and number keys not working

Last year, Wet Baloney had a problem:
I have a first generation iMac with the wireless keyboard of that vintage and a new Magic Mouse.
All of a sudden the keys on the numeric keypad part of the keyboard do not work. The number
keys at the top do work.
Also (all of a sudden) this computer is not detecting my wireless Magic Mouse. There is no battery
problem. The mouse works fine with my MacBook Pro.
Does anyone have any troubleshooting ideas ??
While this question was not answered, Apple decided to archive it anyway so I'm reposting. I had this problem and my sysadmin wizard figured out what is happening. The solution is to open "System Preferences" --> "Universal Access" and select Mouse. Turn off "Mouse Keys". What I don't know is how that got turned on but it happened when I did a Mac OS update that came out around March 28, 2011. Anyway, that fixed both the mouse and the keypad problems. I'm posting so that someone doing the same search I did can find this answer.

Thank You for this!! I was having problems using my Numeric keypad on a wired keyboard - when I used the number keys, the wireless magic mouse would lock up - the only way out was to Force Close the Application . . . Turning off "Mouse Keys" and hitting Shift > Clear turned everything back to normal.

  • New Macbook Pro number keys not working

    Hi everyone,
I have a brand new macbook pro (running 10.6.4) who's number keys suddenly stopped working. The keys from 1 through 9 do not respond at all. Neither does holding down shift, while pressing them. The key rows below and above them work fine. I have the newest updates on the machine, and have restarted multiple times.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

This same issue happens to me frequently. I've lived with it for the most part just because I didn't want to spend my time running down Apple's glitch. I can not tell if it is a hardware, firmware, or software issue. I have a case number which is 163792369 that I've had since June. I've never taken it in because it is not consistent. I'm leaning towards an OS glitch. I have searched Apple's archives and found one reference to it happening on an earlier version of OS-X, but I was afraid to install the patch because of version differences. Please let me know if you get a solution from the customer support. It is somewhat frustrating as this is my first experience with a Mac and I understand it's a complex piece of machinery from a hardware and software perspective, but fresh out of the box the freak'in keys should work.
    Thanks,
    Shawn A. Peterson
It just works??? Most of the time.

  • Keyboard letter/number keys not working; Function keys OK

The function keys on my Bluetooth AND USB keyboard work, but none of the letters or numbers work, so I can't log-in in the appropriate field. I can move the icon with the mouse, (Bluetooth or USB) I've tried 2 keyboards, one USB the other Bluetooth, but I can't get past the log-in screen cos the letters & numbers don't respond. I can adjust the brightness using F1 & F2, and I can adjust the volume with F11 & F12.
Luckily I have this MacBook Air!
It started off as a hardware issue where I couldn't even start up. Also I can't get a hardware test to run to completion (you know, switch on whilst pressing D). Strange that the D key works for this! Also it seems Option/Command/R/P sometimes works for a reset paramter RAM (PRAM); (sounds like a baby should be in there! ;-)). So the R & P work at Startup; therefore plus D key, but beyond, nothing. My log-in includes lower case r or d.
Beyond that letters/numbers do not work.
I have since tried a Safe Boot where you press the Shift key as soon as the start-up sound is heard. And since then I've not even got to the log-in screen! What's going on? It's like there's a 2013 phenomenon.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Jonathan

Do 2-3 SMC resets, doing just one does not always work. If the resets fail then try another keyboard and if those keys work then you know the original keyboard needs to be replaced. Follow the directions in:

  • C5 Number Keys not working

The key pad (numbers 3 6 9) on my new C5 don't work. When I push 3 it opens Calendar and 6 starts Messaging. All other keys are fine. Please tell me there is a simple solution!! Anyone else having similar problems??

never seen this type of behaviour before ,i would suggest returning it to where you bought it for a replacement ,one thing you could try is a factory reset though it may not work if keys are responding as above try typing in *#7780# security code is 12345 ,you could also check for a firmware update keep in touch .
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Airport and keyboard number keys not working

    Hello community
I bought my MacBook Pro 15/2.4/2X1GB/250/SD in 2008 and it is finally showing some signs of shutting down. For now, my airport card doesnt seem to be working, nor are my number keys 0-9. Can anyone suggest me what part should I buy (airport card model), where I should buy it from and how to fix it without going to the local store which is charging me around £500 for the repair?
    Thanks in advance.
    Varun

You can try the US store - http://www.ifixit.com/ - which should have AirPort cards for your MacBook Pro - http://www.ifixit.com/Device/MacBook_Pro_15%22.
    Worth a shot...

  • Serial Number/Key not working

I downloaded the Adobe Master Collection trough my university website and the download was succesful, I was provided a serial number and when I tried to complete the instalation the message was "We are unable to validate this serial number for CS6 Master Collection. Please contact costumer support". I have a limited amount of time to do the instalation, but I still have more than 15 days left. Why would the serial number be invalid?. Thanks.

We cannot know. This is volume licensing stuff, so it would have to be handled via your IT department. Feel free to contact support directly by phone or web chat and have the number verified.

You need to turn off Mouse Keys in System Preferences - Universal Access - Mouse & Trackpad.  Also uncheck "press option key five times to turn mouse keys on".

  • HP G62-348CA number keys and arrow keys not working

Good day Experts! Can someone help me fix my laptop? I got G62-348CA unit. only number 5 and 6 in my number keys are working and also arrow keys down and right are not functioning. at first it was built with windows 7 home premium 64bit but then i have to reformat my laptop with windows 7 ultimate but i dont have available 64bit so i install 32bit of the OS. before i install the OS, number keys and arrow keys are working fine but after I reformat my laptop with ultimate 32bit, the said keys are not working. please guys help me. im having trouble with my unit and i dont know what to do. its pretty bad i dont have any idea. all the best with you guys and i'm hoping for your fast and kind response. thank you!

Because the operating system does not affect the keyboard in that way . .. If the operating system has issues it would switch keys or assign wrong characters.
I have replaced over 200 keyboards because of such issues

  • Wired keyboard-number pad&right arrow keys not working-serial # help!

    Hello to whomever reads/replies -
I have a wired keyboard for my iMac(it's not the aluminum imac, but the version before it with the keyboard and mouse that came with it). I got this keyboard June 2007 after the original keyboard sent to me had problems with it with some keys not working properly. And now about a week ago my right arrow key and the zero, decimal point, one, two, three and enter button on the keypad stopped working out of the blue. One night they worked and the next they didn't with nothing being done different, nor was the keyboard stored differently.
I've cleaned the keyboard inside and out twice and tried pushing the little squishy thing under the keys when you pop them off and there's no response with those being pushed either so something's got to be wrong with the keyboard itself.
Also, when I go online to look up the warrenty on this keyboard, #1 i can't find where it tells me where the serial number on the **** WIRED keyboard is, just gives me where i can find it on the WIRELESS keyboards. Ugh. So I looked under my keyboard and punched in the numbers and letters that i found on a little silver plate just below where the wire and USB ports are in the top of the keyboard and I get an 'invalid serial number' error message.
So.. could anyone help me with these problems? I'd really rather not call tech support since it took me over two hours to explain to the man that I spoke with last year about my other keyboard and I just don't have the time! Thanks in advance!

    Hello sharon:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Run, don't walk to the phone. Call Applecare and indicate you have a warranty problem. The KB is (or will be shortly) out of warranty. It may take you some time, but it may save you some money in the long run.
Incidentally, it appears to me that your KB is, indeed, broken.

  • When I am on a Youtube video that is running and I want to switch to another tab, the Ctrl+ tab number does not work, is that intended functionality?

When I am on a Youtube video that is running and I want to switch to another tab, the Ctrl+<tab number> does not work, is that intended functionality?

This can happen when the video player (Flash plugin) has the focus.
In that case the plugin consumes all the key presses.
You will have to click with the mouse elsewhere on the page or in the user interface to make keyboard shortcuts work.

    Hi All
curve 8900 - I turned the handheld off last night and this morning only the number keys are working on keyboard and when I press symbols it only showing numbers. Did i press an unusual key combination? I tried taking battery out and restarting.
    Can anyone help me out?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
You did not state fully, so I cannot know if you did the battery pull properly (with power ON). Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

I have purchased Production Premium CS4 Educational Version. Its serial number is not working. Please help...

If you recently purchased this then it is not likely to be a valid sale/purchase.  Adobe does not sell older versions of their products and no one but Adobe provides student/teacher licensing.  If you purchased this some time years ago and it is only recently that you find you are not able to reactivate it with the original serial number you can try contacting Adobe Support thru chat and see if they will be willing to work with you to resolve this.
