Number of all day events viewed on month view inconsistent

Why is it on some months, I have have three and even four 'all day event' in plain view on the month iCal window, and then other months, no more than two 'all day events' will show, and instead there is an 'ellipse on the day in question? iCal help says its because there's not enough room, but on many months, I easily have three or four up there on monthly view, and then in other months, no matter what I try, only two all day events will show, with the rest being ellipses on monthly view.

I have a related question - if i keep events as a single day, i can see around 9 per day in month view, but if i make the events all day i can only see 4 events, and then the ellipse. Does anyone know of a way around this?

The paths won't agree on the two OSs so a simple XML import isn't likely to work.
See Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers and, if needed, Make a split library portable. The techniques in the first link will work when moving the library between Windows and OS X as long as the library is "portable", but iTunes takes quite some time checking the database when the library is opened under a different OS.

Showing more All-Day Events in Month View?

Even with the iCal window maximized, when more than 4 All-Day events take place on the same day, Month View shows "..." instead of the usual All-Day colour bar, even if there's still half the space left in 'box' for that day....
To be clear: it shows the first 4 colour bars for the corresponding all-day events, then "..." at the top to show there are more, you have to switch to Week or Day view to see them
I looked at the plist and can't figure what could be changed.... any tips? It would really be convenient to see the maximum possible number of All-Day events even in Month view.

Unfortunately, it appears that this is intentional. The iCal Help file states:
"If you're in Month view and you see three dots (an ellipsis) at the top of the day, there is not enough room to show all the events on that day. To see all the events in Day view, double-click the ellipsis."
I suspect that half of the box is saved for all-day events and half for timed events. On my iMac G3, I get three dots and 3 events, on my G5 with a much larger screen I get three dots and 4 events. If anyone figures out how to alot more space to all-day events, it would be a big help.

Erratic behaviour of 'all day events'

I use iCal very successfully for recording campsite bookings. It's only a small campsite - never more than ten pitches at a time, so at best I have 10 'all day events' spread across a week view (as discussed in this forum, month view is no use for viewing more than 4 or 5 'all day events' because iCal hides any more than this).
Anyway, to get back to the problem, which just occurred for the first time last night, in 'week view' I have a week in July that hides an all day event when it is set to run for five days but if I change it to run for six days, it re-appears. What is strange is that there is no apparent limit to the number of 'all day events' that can be displayed in 'week view', so is it a glitch in the program? All other aspects of iCal and the OS are very stable.

You really need to get it a bit more predictable to make it worth investigating.
You could try changing the geometry - make your iCal window wider or narrower or taller ... but even if you get it right for that particular combination of events it can still occur some other week with a different combination.
When checking your bookings you could get into the habit of turning on only one calendar at a time. Alternatively, since numbers are small, why not add an "unbooked" calendar with one event (all day) for each free space, then change its calendar as necessary. That way you should always have the same number of all-day events, making missing events more obvious.
You can give OS X Feedback, but you will here nothing. Alternatively you can join (free, and you don't actually have to do any developing) the developer programme, which allows you to submit bug reports.

Hi,
I am trying to work out how to get iCal to show more than two (2) 'all day' events in the monthly view? At the moment if there are three (3) all day events in one day, it only shows two of them and then a "..." in the top of that days 'box'. How do I set it so that it shows all of them??

Easier way to create All-Day Events?

Creating an All-Day Event seems a little cumbersome to me and I was wondering if I was missing something. Is there a way to create an All-Day Event from scratch, meaning keyboard command/menu item? The only way I can find is to create a timed event, then mark it an All-Day Event with an extra step. I know you can click inside the Event section of the day in Week view, but if the day you are working on has the most All-Day entries, there is no place to click.
There is a command for New Event. Why not All-Day Event? I am sure I missing something, but I have searched the Help menus and support groups and cannot find a way to do it.

Yes, I have. That is quite obvious. But, what do you do when there is already one there? That one takes up the empty space for double-clicking. If a different day has 2 events, you get lucky. In that case, there is empty space because the All-Day Events box grows to accommodate the highest number of All-Day Events for that given week.
Let me ask my question again. Once the All-Day Events box is full (which is dependent on the day with the most events - could be 1 event, 2 events, etc.), how do you add an All-Day Event? It seems there is no way. You have to create a timed event, then convert it. If your timed area is already full of events, that can be really tricky.
I hope that is clearer.

Can I list/export more than 3-4 all-day events

Hi:
I need a way to list more than 4 all-day events in the monthly view. The three dots up above mean they will list in the daily/weekly view but this does me no good.
I also wonder if you can export to .pdf more than 3 all-day events. Why is this not possible? It's a severe limitation, and I find too many of these with Mac's stuff. Close, but something silly always gets in the way. I am almost over it.

Hi Mark,
As far as I know, there isn't a way to show more than three all-day events in iCal's Month view.
You could make a PDF of the month in List view. This should show all of your events. In month view choose Print. In the dialog change the view from Month to List.

Display more than 3 all day events

Is there any way that I can view 3 or more all day events in the month view of Ical. Events apprear when I open up the day view. However, for my organizing I need to see all to varify time lapse between events. Can I change font size?

this is causing me problems as well. It seems pretty silly, there is plenty of room in the calendar. Did you find a workaround?

Why is ical creating unwanted alerts for all-day events?

If anyone can point to what might be going wrong here I'd be grateful. This is becoming a daily irritant. I have a number of all-day events listed for most week days in my diary which help me to know what is happening that day with childcare for my son. I don't need alerts to be reminded of these - they are just notes I put to myself in adavnce that let me know how my day is configured. Now, I sync my ical from my home imac to my work imac, my macbook, my iphone and my ipad. On none of these devices do I have default alerts set. I never set any alerts for any of these 'events'. But then, at 9am the day before each one I get an alert. In fact, I get a 9am alert for any all-day event, regardless of whether I set an alert for then, or at all. As I say, I've checked all devices and the default alert a=on all is set to 'none'. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I stop it?

How can I print multiple lines in my All Day Events (month view)?

Does anyone know if there is anyway to print multiple lines for all day events? When I print my iCal from a monthly view, my all day events (positioned as a header) only print the words that can fit into the daily box, instead of going into multiple lines and displaying the whole text.
For example:
Los Angeles County Fair, Don't forget to pick up John and Jen
will print as:
Los Angeles County Fa......Jen
Anyone have any idea how to solve this?
P.S. I have already tried meddling with fonts and page sizes to no avail.

So far as I know, an allday event only ever shows a single line of text regardless of view.
Consequently, how much you can see is governed by the width of the day (or days) in that view.

ICal multi-day (not all day) event in Month view not displayed over days

What is it when I have an event that starts on a Wednesday and 4:00pm and goes to Friday at 6:00pm (not clicked as an All Day Event), (in Month view) the only day showing the event is the first day?! Shouldn't it show it over the course of the 3 days!? Outlook does that (I can't believe I just referenced Outlook in an Apple Discussion... in a positive light no less). Is it a setting?

Yes, Apple any help for this would be great. The only way I've come to work around is to use multiple events. So for a flight out of town would be one event, and the return another. I would create a third event then for the actual time out of town. There must be some way to easily fix this.

All-Day events showing up in Weekly view but not Monthly view

Okay, so I have about 80 All-Day events that I am setting up. They are not recurring events but all will be multiple day events. I am setting all events up to have two alarms, one alarm being a cut off date specific to that event and the other alarm corresponding to a group meeting date prior to each event.
Since about 95% of these All-Day events will occur on the weekends, I will have several different All-Day events on each weekend. What it happening is that when viewed by month, I am not seeing all of the All-Day events but when viewed by Week, all All-Day events are there and editable.
I thought it might be a result of space constraints so I deleted events on days where I had several simultaneous events and that did not allow "hidden" events in month view to become visible.
Anyone have any suggestions?

One more thing, it prints just fine in Month View. Bizarre.

All day event not appearing in month view

If I know there is an all day event on a day and I click into it from month view it is there. But for some reason I cannot see any of them from moth view. There is no colored or gray bar indicating an event.
There is one in week view. And if there is a timed event it appears in month view.
In a separate, and puzzling, event I lost all my events. Putting them back in, but not sure if this happened with 1.4 or new Facebook update.

There is an old thread on this issue. Its by design that all day events do not show up in month view and not a bug. Many users (myself included) would like this to change. I suggest using the feedback and feature request page to let them know.

All-Day Events & Month View

When I'm creating a new All-Day Event, it immediately disappears if I'm in month view, but shows up in week or day view. This has never ever happened before... If it helps, I'm noticing that it's happening in events that I'm scheduling in April...

All-Day Events in Month View

When I have more than two all-day events (Just one day) that are in different categories in one day, only two show. The others are hidden and you have to open the week or day calendar to view them. When the events are regular events there is not a problem, but I would like to know how to be able to view three all-day events or more from the month view. Is this even possible?

Same problem here; if I EVER find out the solution I will post it here.
