Number of GWTDOMAINs to boot

Guidance on number of GWTDOMAINs to use required
I have a system comprising of multiple Tuxedo domains, with something in the region
of 300 service calls per seconds going between the domains.
First thing to note is that at that service call rate the GWTDomain processes
take up a lot of CPU (that's compared to the services they actually call to do
work etc).
Normally I always have two GWTDOMAINs on each end of domain connections for resilency
- one process or network connection dies the other is still working.
What I'm thinking is given the rate of service calls going between the domains
should I configure more connections? Is there a maximum recommended service rate
that a GWTDOMAIN should be exposed to before adding another instance is more performant?
thanks
Jody

If you have extra CPU available, and you have not saturated your
network, then an extra gateway can help throughput. But if you're
already saturating your application with the 300 requests per second,
then it might not be able to accept any more. It's easy enough to try,
though. Let us know if it worked out.

  • Can no longer boot from ANY OS disc on MBP

I recently purchased a 15" 2.16ghz Core Duo Macbook Pro. It came with the original 10.4.5 discs. The previous owner installed 10.6 on it using a retail disc, then upgraded to 10.6.6. I had planned on upgrading the original hard drive. However, I cannot get the laptop to boot from the original discs or my own retail 10.6 disc. I've tried a number of different approaches (booting from an external DVD, holding down "C", holding down "option", attempting to mount in on the desktop first, etc.). Either the machine hangs or it ejects the disc (when using the internal drive). Nothing seems to work. Both the internal drive and external drive have been tested and work fine. Is it possible that when upgrading to 10.6.6 a firmware upgrade was done that won't allow the machine to boot from a disc containing an earlier version? I don't know what else could be causing the issue. The laptop has not displayed any other issues. Thanks for any suggestions or explanations.

I don't know how much help I'll be to you. Seems to have a lot of posts lately about not being able to start up from the install disks.
I assume you can still boot up from the internal drive.
When you hold the option key to start, does the screen come up with the option to choose a startup disk and is your Install Disk in when you attempt this?
While booted up normally, does the Install Disk open up with the install OSX menu? If so, does going through the install menu reboot the computer from the CD automatically?
Even if there were a firmware upgrade, seems like you would be able to use the 10.6 Install Disk to boot from.

  • Can no longer boot to MacOSX after bootcamp install

Hello all, I have an issue to where I can no longer boot into the Mac OSX partition after what appears to be a failed Windows bootcamp install. As I was running the bootcamp assistant process, a reboot occurred and I was greeted with the "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". I have no idea how to get past this and boot back to OSX.
    Things I have tried:
Holding down the "option" key does nothing, even using a USB keyboard
Resetting PRAM (CMD + OPT + P + R) does nothing, even with USB keyboard
I have put in a MAC OSX 10.7 Disk and cannot boot to disk using CMD + C on startup
I also pulled the hard drive out and connected it to another PC and wiped the drive completely. I put it back in the macbook and I am still presented with this error. It seems, even though I get the Mac startup tone, that it is stuck in which ever OS it tried to run previously, that being Windows. Not sure why I am still receiving this error even after wiping the drive completely clean.
As far as hardware goes, I am pretty sure its a late 2010 Alumn. Macbook Pro. I cant get the current model number since I cant boot the OS. Any help is appreciated.

    Please reset SMC as well.
You can get the serial number from the back cover and use https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do to find the model.

  • Accidentally Unmounted Boot Camp Partition

    Hi,
I had accidentally unmounted my Boot Camp Partition the other day. When I mounted it back using disk utility, it didn't show up under Startup Disk. The partition still shows up on my Desktop and the windows files are still in tact.
This is what Disk Utility showed:

When opening Boot Camp Utility, it gives me the following message:
+Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used: You must update your computer's Boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant.+
My Boot ROM firmware is up to date, Boot ROM Version: MP41.0081.B07
Also, Mac OS takes more than 10 minutes to load during startup. I have never experienced this problem before. Could this be related to the accidental unmount-ing?
    Appreciate some help

It's gone, the icons in finder are just icons. You will have to reinstall and restore your backup if you have one.

  • I want to Boot from My old hard drive.

I an trying to do this work around so I can continue using protools 7 with my MBP running Snow leopard. I pulled out my old hard drive running Tiger and put it into a USB case. I installed a new 650GB hard drive in to my laptop, installed Snow Leopard and reinstalled all my old software. So far so good. Now I want to boot from the old hard drive running Tiger so that I can launch Protools 7. I choose the external HD as the startup disc and end up getting a circle with a line through it on startup.
Is there something else I need to use my old hard drive running Tiger as a startup disk?
    Thanks!

If the original HD still has the version of Tiger installed on it that came with the MBP (probably Mac OS X 10.4.8, build 8N1037, 8N1051, or 8N1430) or a later version of Tiger like 10.4.11, then the MBP should be able to boot from it.
To determine what OS & build number is on that drive, open the Startup Disk system preference. Hover the pointer over the drive's image in the window & the OS version & build number will pop up in a ToolTip window after a brief delay. What does it show?
Also, which MBP do you have? Open System Profiler to the Hardware Overview page. What is the Model Identifier shown in it? Is it "MacBookPro2,2" or something else?
Assuming the OS version & build number are sufficient to boot the MBP, it may be that the USB enclosure does not support booting. Most do, a few do not. What is brand/model of the enclosure? Do its specs specifically say it can boot a Mac?
If all of this seems OK, you can try running Disk Utility's two repairs (permissions & disk) on the external drive. If no errors are found, you may be able to get it to boot the Mac by reinstalling Tiger on it from the original system disc set. This will require updating the OS to the latest version you had installed on it for best results.

There's a similar case to that in which the solution was to upgrade the patchlev of Tuxedo software. The latest RP for Tuxedo 6.5 resolve some issues related to GWTDOMAIN process.
    501. CR266129 Tuxedo 6.5 RP496: LIBGW_CAT:1029 Service request not forwarded - TPELIMIT (S-34477)
    517. CR342496 Tx 6.5 [propagation] pq in tmadmin report too large number for GWTDOMAIN, not match ipcs results (S-42376)
Many things related to domains have been fixed.
I hope that solves your problem.

  • Windows xp install -- black screen with no cursor

I've seen a number of posts about Boot Camp installation problems involving a black screen with a blinking cursor, but my problem is simply with a black screen. On my MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo (graphics card: ATY,RadeonX1600) I'm able to partition the HD, but then after I'm prompted in Boot Camp to insert the Windows XP install disk, the computer attempts to restart and install, but after a flash of grey screen, the screen goes totally black, and eventually the optical drive powers down (after whirring for a while) -- no cursor, no nothing. I've tried a number of suggestions I've seen elsewhere: my firmware seems up-to-date (at least that's what I'm told when I try to run both EFI and SMC firmware updates); the Windows XP is a brand-new, single-disk, SP2 install disk; I've tried holding down the option key upon reboot and selecting windows start-up. I've used Parallels with no problem under 10.4.X, but recently upgraded to 10.5.2, and thought I'd try a Boot Camp installation for better access to peripherals. Any suggestions?

Hello to all and it wanted to request aid to them on this subject, days ago I acquired a Imac 24"2.4GHZ Aluminum (generation previous to the last ones sent for a month),then it is that I have years with my macbook pro and always I have used bootcamp since was beta in Tiger, so installation experience I believe that I have a little.
The problem is that in it is new machine I have partition my disc with the assistant without no problem, but when it is going to install Windows XP or Vista (the 2 I have them original) and boot the machine, it remains in gray screen and no nothing happens, reason why boot with option pressed and they leave systems both to me, followed this I select Windows and it is hoisted in the screen that nor the leader of the mouse moves.
I have made the procedure as 10 times and proven with different sizes from partition (with its respective disc repair with the DVD of Leopard and the disc assistant) and nothing.
Finally uses WinClone in my macbook pro and clone my partition of Vista Windows, recovers it in the Imac without no problem and it appears to me in startup but the same, I select Windows and there it remains. Fiirmware of the updated machine this and I am in OSX 10.5.3. I have proven everything until changes to the memories and nothing. Them request if somebody has had east problem and to most erudite of the forum I request aid to them to see if they can give me.
Beforehand a million thanks to all,

Microsoft Office 2004 (Word) unable to save files
I have been running Office 2004 on my Intel iMac with Snow Leopard for some time and all of a sudden I cannot save a document. Word just stopped responding and I have to force quit. I can open Word and create a new document but I cannot save it. I reinstalled Word but that didn’t help. Then went to the Internet and found at least one other Mac user having the same problem which it suggests is caused by a recent Mac Security Update:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2004-macword/word-2004-wil l-not-open-or-save-documents/b04eb870-9b0d-4f3b-bb47-b122301e36f6
So I check for a new Mac Security Update and sure enough there was one. I downloaded it and now Word seems to be working, as it should. I can both open and save files. The only problem remaining is that when I open Word I get the following error message “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library”. I contacted Apple but they were unable to help.
How can I get rid of this error message?

Look, I realize you might have to get your machine working, so this is how you revert back.
    Restore proceedure to pre-Security Update 2012-001 v 1.0 & v 1.1
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
    #2 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk  of your internal drive  (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway)  or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
    #3 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001 v1.0 or v1.1
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#4 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason as they are missing the part they installed into OS X.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

    That's it really.

  • Can't print more than 1 copy out of Photoshop 7.0.1

the oddest thing has started, when I try and print out of Photoshop I can no longer change the number of copies, there is no response from the keyboard in the print dialog box. I can highlight the “1” but not change it either by overwriting it or by backspace.
I am now printing out of 10.3.9 from the same copy of Photoshop and the same file.
I can print mutiple copies out of preview with the same file saved as a JPEG.
I once booted back to 10.4.2 from 10.3.9 and just the first time I could change the number of copies but as soon as I quit Photoshop and then reopened the file the same thing. Can’t change the number of copies.
Rebooted 10.4.2 still can’t change the number of copies. Boot back to 10.3.9 all is fine.
I’ve got this up at adobe forums but wondered if anyone had a similar problem with other software.
I don’t remember this being a problem before but it’s also not likely I have tried printing multiples out of Photoshop after upgrading to tiger. (printing Xmas cards...)

well this is the final word:
this comes from the spellcatcher site, right at the top of their faqs...
“I can't change the number of copies or page range in the Print dialog in certain programs!
    Author: Evan Gross
This is a bug in Mac OS X 10.4.x (all versions as of Nov, 2005)
Specifically, if an input method is active (almost any input method, including Apple's own that ship with OS X), you will be unable to edit these values in the dialog versions of Print and Page Setup. This is not a problem in the sheet versions of Print and Page Setup.
Certain older applications still use these dialogs (AppleWorks for instance) instead of the more appropriate sheet equivalents. To clarify the difference, the sheet versions are "attached" to the actual document you are printing (take a look at, say, TextEdit), while the dialog versions appear modally in front of all document windows in applications that use them.
The only work-around is to choose a keyboard (flag) icon from the input menu in applications that use these dialogs. Enter the number of copies (or page range, etc.), then once you're done choose Spell Catcher again from the input menu to activate its input method. Depending on which version of Mac OS X you use, this is easily accomplished with the standard command-space or command-option-space keyboard shortcuts.
Once again, this is not a bug in Spell Catcher. To convince yourself, try the same thing with (say) Apple's Korean (Hangul) input method active. The result - a total mess.
Again, we cannot fix or work-around this problem because it is a bug in Mac OS X (Tiger), and appears with almost all input methods. Tell Apple you'd like them to fix this if it's causing you grief.“
you’d think this would be listed in apple’s support site somewhere! Grrrrrr!
Now I want the many hours spent searching for a fix back!!!!!

  • Your firmware can not be updated because the hard drive...SMC 1.3

    Hi all !
    I have a problem. I'm have a macbook pro Santa Rosa =
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B03
    SMC Version (system): 1.27f1
This morning I saw the update for the SMC firmware (1.3).
Before restarting, I have this error :
    http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6606/26048579.jpg
Your firmware can not be updated because the hard drive partition scheme may not be supported. You must be booted from a GUID partiton or RAID scheme.
When I went into Disk Utility in order to check, here is what I have =
    Name : FUJITSU MHY2200BH Media
    Type : Disk
Partition Map Scheme : GUID Partition Table
    Disk Identifier : disk0
Media Name : FUJITSU MHY2200BH Media
    Media Type : Generic
Connection Bus : Serial ATA 2
    Device Tree : /PCI0/SATA@1F,2/PRT0@0/PMP@0/@0:0
    Writable : Yes
    Ejectable : No
Mac OS 9 Drivers Installed : No
    Location : Internal
    Total Capacity : 186.3 GB (200,049,647,616 Bytes)
    S.M.A.R.T. Status : Verified
    Disk Number : 0
    Partition Number : 0
I thought Boot Camp could be involved becauseI know it's the only thing related to the EFI.
I searched on internet, and Ifound nothing. There was a solution in order to reset the partition table, but the tool is no longer available. The link on on the application explains that I have to reformat my macbook pro. I find a bit weird to make this , I can't spend hours for backup / restore just because the SMC update does not work. have you any lead for me ?
    Thanks ,
    Razique

    Have you tried this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Installing Windows XP to Thinkpad X41 (Not Tablet)

Alright so I got a used IBM Thinkpad X41 from my uncle which had windows xp installed on it. He asked me to reformat it so his companys information and other data would be fully erased.
    Some specs on the X41:
Does not have CD/DVD Drive so I can't install windows that way.
Does have USB slots, so I think that will be the only way to install (correct me if I am wrong).
Me being a complete newbie, I full erased the hard drive (so there is no OS). The laptop still turns on but when i let it run it says:
    Media Test Failure, Check Cable
    Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
    Operating System Not Found
Luckily the Bios still works and I can access it but there is nothing I can do to restore it back to factory state or recover.
The Bios does detect my usb drive and I have placed that in the number one spot for boot order.
If there is anyway I can get an OS installed onto my pc I would be grateful. Note I don't need to install XP on the first install, If installing windows 98 or 95 will be faster and easier we can do that.
I can take it from there as all I will need is the xp install files which i have copied from my cd to my computers share folders.
Thanks again hopefully there is a solution to my problem, I'd really like to have this laptop for school as im going into grade 12.

    Welcome to the forum!
Fastest and probably least painful way around this is to buy or borrow a USB CD-ROM and take it from there...
    Good luck.
    Cheers,

I am unfamiliar with the recovery manager.  Here are two guesses.
-- Is system profiler around?  It will tell you your serial number.
    Report system info
Blue apple > about this Mac
    click on more info
    click on hardware
You serial number will appear after Boot ROM.  Do not copy hear.
--- The newer machines include a recovery partition.  Perhaps looking around recovery manager would reveal something.
