Numbers Update/Problem Opening Old Spreadsheets

I am currently running Numbers 09, Version 2.3 (554) and when I attempt to open an "old" (older then the last update) spreadsheet, I receive a notice; "You need a newer version of numbers to open this spreadsheet.  You can download the latest version of Numbers from the mac store"
Mac store is telling me that all of my updates are current?

Hi everybody, I have the same error message, and  I try the 2 Number version I have with this result :
Number 3.2.2 from /applications  "You need to upgrade OS X and Numbers to open this spreadsheet" but I have both the last version installed !
Number 2.3 from /applications/Iwork'09  "A newer version of numbers existe on the Apple store" and the program quit while I clic "OK" whithout open the spreadsheet.
Any one have the same ?
any one have a solution ?
Thanks for any help.
Regards.

  • Can't Open Old Spreadsheets

I have new version of Numbers (3.01) and can't open my old spreadsheets. Says I need to save them in Numbers '09 format. How do I accomplish this?

It sounds like your spreadsheets are Numbers v1 from iWork '08. Unfortunately, the new versions of the iWork apps cannot open any iWork '08 or earlier files. I suggest that you buy a retail copy of iWork '09 from a third party such as Amazon or eBay & then update to the new iWork apps in the Mac App Store. You might check this link for the iWork '09 trial. I have no idea if it is still available.
If you’ve already purchased the new iWork apps in Mavericks, you can use this trick to get Numbers 2.3. If you still have access to a Mac running Mountain Lion. It must be Mountain Lion or Lion. Snow Leopard won't work. If the iWork '09 apps are installed, compress them & delete the originals. Launch the Mac App Store & click on the 'install' buttons under the iWork apps. You will get a message that you can't install the new version on this Mac but it will offer to download the previous version for you. Voilá, you have the self-contained apps that you can copy to another Mac.

  • Numbers update locked up my spreadsheets

My Ipad updated numbers automatically and now when I try to open my spreadsheets they won't open .

Since Apple always recommends this first, do a hard reset of your iPad by holding the home button and on/off button until the Apple logo appears.
Make sure that you have access to iCloud in Settings>iCloud, since that's where Numbers usually stores the spreadsheets.
If you have access to a Mac with Numbers, see if you can open them there.

  • HT1338 OS X Numbers Update Problem...

    OS X Version 10.9.1 on 27" late 2009 iMac.
App store Updates, shows 'Numbers' updated to v3.0.1 , but version 2.3 was not removed.
What would be the problem, and how do I remove version 2.3 'Numbers'  ...?

Yes, it's possible it could be the RAM.  To test that theory out, pull 1 stick out.  This will leave you with 2GB RAM.  Try to install Lion as you were.  If you still get the panic, then swap RAM sticks.  Try again.  If you are still getting panics, then it is likely something else, unless both of your RAM sticks are bad, which is unlikely but possible i suppose.

  • I keep getting the message that I need to download the images update to open old documents.  The update was downloaded on 11/24/13.  Checking for new updates shows all updates have been made.  What is the issue?

I keep getting the message that I need to download the new update for ipages when opening old documents.  The latest update that I have download was done 11/24/13.  When I check for updates it shows that there are no new updates available.  I downloaded Maverick a few weeks back on to my iMac.  What is the issue

You have both your older iWork apps and the newer Maverick apps on your computer.
The new Maverick apps are in the Applications folder.
The older iWork apps are in the Applications/iWork folder.
Of the two, the older iWork apps are more useful so don't throw them out.
Check out about Pages 5, keeping the older Apps and how to manage updates here:

  • Numbers doesn't show old spreadsheets after software update

I Need to use my iPad to access the spreadsheets I created in numbers and before I update to OS8 I was able to see them from my iPad.  What's the deal?  I've got the "use icloud" turned on.  What am I missing?

Your Mac is storing the spreadsheets in icloud. But when you updated your iPad to iOS 8 you most likely turned on iCloud Drive. The two do not communicate with each other and the Mac running Mavericks does not support iCloud Drive. Once you update your Mac to Yosemite iCloud Drive will work on both.
In the meantime you might be able to email the spreadsheets from your Mac to your iPad.

  • Problem opening old Diagrams in JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4

    Hi,
I have UML and Database diagrams done in JDeveloper 10.1.2.1 and older versions.
When I try to open the diagram in 10.1.3.0.4 version the the ide doesn't open it and gives the message error:
oracle.bm.persist.VersionMigrationFailureException: Unable to migrate DBDiagram in /tmp/xslttmp27211xml from

    at oracle.bm.persist.diagram.impl.DiagramStructureReader.reparse(DiagramStructureReader.java:113)
Do you know if there is a problem compatibility in this JDeveloper version?
    -Cleber

    Hi Cleber,
Is it possible that you can send me a copy of your original 10.1.2 project which contains these diagrams so that I can take a look? The diagrams should open fine in 10.1.3.0.4.
My email address is [email protected], if you could zip up your project and then change the .zip file extension to .zap to get it through the email server.

  • Numbers Update problem

How do I get Numbers 2.3 to update to the new Version 3 when the App Store keeps telling me incorrectly that Version 3 is already installed?

    Robert,
Run Software Update to get Version 3.0, don't try to download it directly from the Mac App Store. There is also the chance that you actually do have version 3.0 already and don't know it, but this is unlikely since Apple has built-in devices to make it your default version.
Use Spotlight to search for Numbers. On my system, Numbers 3.0 is identified as Numbers - Applications, and Numbers 2.3 is identified as Numbers - iWork.

  • Problem opening old projects

I just upgraded my Mac to Tiger and Final Cut Studio 5.1.2 from my 4.5. I keep trying to open a project in 4.5 and when I go to update the project to open it up. FCP Studio keeps crashing. I dont' want to lose my project and don't know what to do. Any help here?
    Victor

One method would be to export the project as an XML from FCP 4.5, then import that into 5.1.2 - another method might be to open the project up first in 5.0, then save it (to a new name), then open that project in 5.1.2
If you don't have those versions around (always back up your app before upgrading), you could zip the project up and email it to me and I'll try and upgrade it...

  • TS1702 Update problem for old apps due to apple switching my account country

I tried to update the apps I purchased previously with APP store. it shows me 10 apps to update. when i click on the download all button it shows the messages This item is temporarily unavailable. then when i click on a single item update it shows Account Not In This Store.
Im not sure why does it suddenly forbid me to update APPS which i have updated several times before in the same way.
Im Austrian, have an Austrian Credit Card and live in Thailand permanently.
In the last years i was forced to use the Thai APP store because of the location (IP?).. I learned to like it as all apps i use are in english.
I dont wish to use austrian store, its not my location at all and i dont want to be forced to use german speaking software when there is a better english version of it.
    The main issue is:
I cant update apps which i purchased earlier! Its terrible that i cant update them anymore even i had to pay.
Some apps like chrome are buggy and delete passwords in chrome unless you update the app (which i CANT)

    - Did you go to Settings>Store and sign out of the account and then sign back in?
    - Did you actually change the the email address that Apple contacts you or did you just created a new Apple ID/iTunes account? Many users mistakenly create a new account.
    - iTunes purchases  re permently locked to the account that created them
    - You can reset yur passwards using the secret question/answer upu used during the setup of the account. See:
How to change your Apple ID password
    - You can always contact iTunes

  • If I buy the Apple app. Numbers, will I then be able to open my spreadsheet documents marked cwk?

Many of my old documents were written on older systems which now won't open in Lion.  Word processed docs will open with Pages, and I wonder whether I will be able to open old spreadsheets if I buy the Numbers app without loss of layout, etc.

Numbers '09 can open AppleWorks spreadsheets created with AppleWorks 6. It cannot open files created with earlier versions of AppleWorks (or ClarisWorks), nor can it open AW 6 files that are not spreadsheets.
Maintenance of layout/format depends on Numbers supporting the same format options as Appleworks. For example, Numbers (and other current Apple applications will not support bold or italic text in fonts that do not include these variations within the font set. AppleWorks (and other applications of that generation would also construct representation of bold and italic typefaces using added width or a slant to characters in the Regular font set.

  • Troubleshooting issues opening Excel spreadsheets

Platform: SP 2010 service pack 2. Office 2010, windows 7 on user laptop , IE 9 32 bit browser.
several users started calling recently about problems opening Excel spreadsheets. They are on different SharePoint sites on the same site collection.
No changes/patches have been made to SharePoint.
No changes to the site collection features of configuration of which I am aware.
The site collection is configured that users clicking on a doc library item opens in the application associated with the file type.
When I, as a farm admin (which I need to do due to permissions), and I click on the Excel documents on person 1's troubled site, they open in Excel as expected.
When the person reporting the problem clicks on the Excel spreadsheets, he gets one of two behaviors.
On the first paginated page (documents 1-31) , if he clicks on an Excel document, two instances of the Excel application opens.
On page 3 (documents 61-90) when he clicks on an Excel document, the excel data appears within the web page itself with a button at the top that says "Open in Excel". When he clicks that, he gets an error box that states
To open this workbook, your computer must have a version of Microsoft Excel installed and your web browser must support opening files directly from Excel in the browser.
This of course is interesting since on the first page, clicking on one of the documents uses the version of Excel installed and opens the file directly.
None of these behavior, of course, can I duplicate.
And, just to add another confusing item to the list, if this person goes to a different doc library and everything works fine.
So this does not seem to be related to add-ons (why would add-ons act differently between sites?).
The sites that I have examined all have the same advanced setting regarding opening the document in the client app rather than the browser.
I have not yet started the process of having a repair on Office 2010 be broken in a way that on different pages different behaviors occur?

Well, after the admins performed the repair on Office 2010, the user was able to click on Excel workbooks and have them open as expected.

Can't open a spreadsheet. Get message that spreadsheet is too old and needs to be saved with Numbers '09?

    HS,
If you recently purchased a new computer, call AppleCare and describe your problem. Others who have done this have received an iWork '09 disk in the mail with which to do the conversion.

  • I ran the update for the newest version of Numbers.  Now I cannot open some of my spreadsheets.  When I try I get a drop down box that says I need a newer version of Numbers!!!!  I have just installed the newest Numbers update.  Any suggestions?

I ran the latest Numbers update and now I cannot open several of the Numbers files I created and saved previously.  When I try, a box appears that says I need to update to a newer version of Numbers.  I ALREADY updated to the newest version!!!!  Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you upgraded Numbers to the most recent version, the Mac App Store kept the old version in case you need it in the future. Your problem is that you are opening the old version by mistake instead of the new one.
To fix this, open a Finder window, select Applications in the sidebar and drag the new Numbers version (the one with the new icon) to the Dock. By doing this, you can access to the new Numbers version easily, so you will not open the old version by mistake anymore. Also, I recommend you to open the documents after opening Numbers. The same applies for all other iWork applications.
If you want, you can remove the old Numbers version, but some users have complained about the lack of features of the new Numbers version. Apple will add more features in the future. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6049?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
