Object Level Security,Data Level Security&Row level Security

can anyone explain main difference between "Object Level Security,Data Level Security & Row Level Security " and how to implement.
Thanks in advance,
Kumar

Hi Kumar
Dashboards, Reports, Guided Navigation Links, Texts, briefing books are all Dashboard OBJECTS which are available at UI level of OBIEE..if you restrict them Say User 'A' wants to see 2 Dashboards and USer 'B' Wants to see 1 Dashboard....these settings & permission u r restricting in Object level called Object Level Security
lly datalevel security is restriction of Data.. consider the same above example and User 'B" wants to see 2-3 regions data where as User A will see only Single Region Data..which you will do/restrict at logical tables, using variables..
Row level security: http://groups.google.com/group/obiee-enterprise-methodology/browse_thread/thread/131ee938a5aefde0 refer this link, clearly explains you

  • How to restrict table data at a row level?

    Hi everybody,
I need create a database user and restrict his data access to certain tables.
What is the best way to do this?
Eg Table Emp has two columns, sal and dept. Sal has three distinct values: 500, 1000, 1500.
I need to make it so that new_user can only see the data in table emp where the sal value = 500.
    Many thanks
    Rup

You can use row-level security (VPD) for this sort of thing, so you assign a policy to the table that restricts which rows a particular user can see.
You can also roll your own solution by creating a view on the table and granting the user access to that view rather than direct access to the table.

  • How to set up row-level data security in BO XI r2

I need to get Data/Row level security into my BO XI r2 report.
A logged in user should be able to view info on pertaining to him without refreshing it.
how do i incorporate this feature into my report?
its possible to do this by setting a filter using the currentuser() function.
however it requires a refresh of the report.
hence the new user shall be able to view the data of the previous user. i need to enforce more security on the data. How do i do this???

Hi Anamika, here is a sample of what the cv_security view might look like:
    create or replace view cv_security
    as
    select distinct sec."gid", sec."uid", sec."from", sec."to"
    from
-- All users where NO LIMITS APPLY (sg.group = 1)
    (select distinct
    sg.group_id as "gid",
    sg.user as "uid",
    '----' as "from",
    'ZZZZ' as "to"
from dual sr, sec_groups sg, sec_users su
    where su.user(+) = sg.user
    and su.status = 1
    and sg.coding = 'GL'
    and sg.group = 1
    union all
    --All users with specified sec_ranges
    select distinct
    sg.group_id as "gid",
    sg.user as "uid",
    case when sr.from is NULL
    then ' '
    else sr.from
    end as "from",
    case when sr.to is NULL
    then ' '
    else sr.to
    end as "to"
    from sec_ranges sr, sec_groups sg. sec_users su
    where su.user(+) = sg.user
    and su.status = 1
    and sg.coding = 'GL'
    and sg.group_id(+) = sr.group_id) sec
grant select on cv_security to ROLENAME
    Notes about cv_security:
    1) For those users with NO LIMITS APPLY (i.e. Admin staff) hard code an absolute range of RC codes from '----' to 'ZZZZ' to ensure you trap all possible alpha-numeric values.
    2) For those users with NO LIMITS APPLY (i.e. Admin staff) substitute the sec_ranges table with dual
    3) su.status = 1 to a filter to report on only active users
    4) sg.coding = 'GL' is assessing the General Ledger coding dimension of the multi-dimensioned security matrix of our Financial system (this may not apply to you)
    Responses to your questions:
Q- Does it involve self join between view cv_secured_detail? A- Yes, the 1:N cardinality is a self join between view cv_secured_detail and itself.
Q- What is the difference between steps 3) and a) below it. A- Step 3a) is simply the act of importing the cv_secured_detail Oracle View as a BO Universe Class, with it's columns known to the BO Universe as Objects
Q- Can the tables from which report data is fetched be included in the Universe? or should they be part of cv_secured_detail view.
A- I'm not sure if I understand your question, but I might phrase it another way - Once you create the cv_secured_detail view, and the Universe from this view, with the user = 'BOUSER' limiter. The universe is then used to design the CR, by virtue of it belonging to the CMS Repository, you as the report designer have to log into the CMS repository using your LDAP credentials, if a match is found against the cv_security view your data is automatically row-level secured. In outher words, whatever is declared in the view, is in the universe, and is ultimately available to the report.
    Does this help?

  • Setting up Row Level Security in EPM 11.1.1.3

I have been following the Administration guide but failed to setup row level security in EPM 11.1. Please advise which part of my steps are wrong. (note I am using MS SQL Server for the EPM Shared Services and Workspace database, everything under Windows env)
    i) Enable row level security in Workspace.
Step 1) Define a ODBC Data Source named "EPM_WS" in Windows. The ODBC Data Source points to the MS SQL Server database of EPM Workspace since it contains the 3 tables (BRIOSECG, BRIOSECP, BRIOSECR) related to row-level-security.
Step 2) Login to workspace, select "Administer"->"Configuration Console". Edit "Interactive Reporting Data Access Services" and add a data source with ODBC->MS SQL Server -> "EPM_WS" as the name of datasource. Restart "Interactive Reporting Data Access Services".
Step 3) Login to workspace, select "Administer"->"Row Level Security". Check "Enable Row Level Security", Choose ODBC->MS SQL Server-> fill in "EPM_WS" as Data Source Name"-> Provide correct user name and password. Click "Save Properties"
Step 4) It always prompt "Server error setting the Connectivity. Recommended Action: Logoff and logon again. If problem persists contact your local security administrator."
Any log I can inspect for the connectivity error?
ii) Configure Row Level Security setting
I know that for Hyperion IR, there is a file row_level_security.bqy comes with the installation. User can use this bqy file to configure the actual row level security setting. However, I cannot locate this bqy file in the EPM 11.1 installation. What is the proper step for setting up the row level security configuration?

  • Any way to display row-level errors in AdvancedTable from ProcessRequest?

I have a page which displays data in an Advanced Table. Users are also able to edit the data on each row, and then save. Upon saving, it will validate the data, and display row-level errors (via either OARowValException or OAAttrValException). That's all working fine.
The issue I have, is that sometimes data can become invalid from outside of this particular screen. So when a user opens the screen, some of the data displayed is already invalid. If the user saves, without changing anything, they'll see the errors. I want to show the errors immediately, without them having to save on every range of records. So I basically want to re-validate everything when it is first displayed, so from ProcessRequest. Is there any way to actually do that? I've tried several ways, but nothing seems to work.

    Hi,
I havent used it but u can try with the below logic
    Write ur logic in AM...
    Import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAAttrValException
    Import oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OARowValException
    //Iterate through all the rows.
    if(attr1!=attr2)

  • OA JDeveloper 9i (RUP5) 9.0.3.5 (Build 1453) - Row level validation issue

    Hi everyone,
Can anyone help me with the following:
    Version of OA JDeveloper 9i (RUP5) 9.0.3.5 (Build 1453)
I have a xml page what is based on a master detail relationship.
The master table (Advancetable EO) contain the Employee details and the Detail VO (Advancetable) contain
the allowances an employee are entitiled too.
How do I stop a user from selecting(radio button) the next employee in an advance table, it the the records
they entered at the detail level is not valid. (Row level validation). My validation method works fine then they try commit the record.
But I need to stop them from navigating to the next employee record in the table, when the records they entered
at detail level is not valid.
    How will I do this?
I added the same validation method I used for the "APPLY" event to validate the records entered at detail level to the "EmployeeSelect" event, but the error message showed only after the new employee has been selected. Thus the error message that is displayed does not relate the the employee record selected at that stage.

  • Stored Procedure based on Row Level

    Hi
I have created a Stored Procedure that works perfectly off the Header Level but not on the Row Level, the query is as follows:
    IF @transaction_type='A' AND @Object_type = '13'
    BEGIN
    --AR Invoice
    IF EXISTS (SELECT T0.DocEntry FROM [dbo].[OINV] T0 WHERE T0.Project ='0' OR T0.Project IS NULL AND T0.DocEntry = @list_of_cols_val_tab_del)
    BEGIN
    SET @Error = 10
SET @error_message = 'Please select Project Code under Accounting Tab > BP Project'
           END
    END
Now I want to base it off Table - INV1, Field - Project, when executing it in SQL Server all seems good but once running in SBO the Stored Procedure does not trigger causing the user to bypass selecting a Project from the Project Field which is Mandatory; could this be down to T0.DocEntry as there is a DocEntry in INV1 and none in OINV?
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Regards
    Kurt Walters

    Try this one:
    IF @transaction_type='A' AND @Object_type = '13'
    BEGIN
    IF EXISTS (SELECT T0.DocEntry FROM dbo.INV1 T0
    WHERE (T0.Project ='' OR T0.Project IS NULL) AND T0.DocEntry = @list_of_cols_val_tab_del)
    Begin
    SET @Error = 10
SET @error_message = 'Please set Project Code on every line !'
    End

  • Row Level Security not working for SAP R/3

    Hi Guys
We have an environment where the details are as mentioned below:
    1. Crystal Reports are created using Open SQL driver to extract data from SAP R/3 using the SAP Integration Kit.
    2. The SAP roles are imported in Business Objects CMC.
    3. Crystal Reports are published on the Enterprise as well.
    3. Authorization objects are created in SAP R/3 and added as required for the row level security as mentioned in the SAP Installation guide as well. The aim is when the user logs into the Infoview and refreshes the report he should only see data that he is meant to so through the authorization objects. The data security works very much fine when the reports are designed directly on the table but when the reports are built on the Business View it doesnt work hence the user is able to see all data.
Any help in this issue is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards
    Kamal

    Hi,
In order for row level security to work for you using the OpenSql driver, you need to configure the Security Definition Editor on your SAP server.  This is a server side tool which the Integration solution for SAP offers as a transport.
This tool defined which tables are to be restricted based on authorizations.
However since you are seeing the issue on reports based on Business Views, you need to identify whether the Business View is configured in such a way where the user refreshing the report is based on the user logging into Infoview.  If the connection to your SAP server is always established with the same user when BV is used then you security definition is pointless.
You can confirm this by tracing your SAP server to identify what user is being used to logon to SAP to refresh the reports.
    thanks

  • Crystal reports LOV cascading prompts row level security not working

Crystal report LOV cascading prompts with row level security is not woking when the crytal report cache server/page server cache (Oldest On-Demand Data Given To a Client (in minutes)) is turned on. But its working fine when the cache is turned off.
    Using XIR2 environment.
    Appreciate the response.
    Thanks
    Chenthil

    Hi Chen,
In terms of what could be done on the Crystal Reports end, there is no such controls available.  However, your question may be better answered if it was posted to our Business Objects Enterprise forum.
It is at "BusinessObjects Enterprise Administration" section of the forums.

  • Obi 11g row level security not working

    All,
I am very familiar and have worked with obi 10g row level security and it works pretty easily. Now in 11g not so easy. I am basically setting permissions on data filters on app roles as per the new 11g instructions and meta data guide, however, I never see the filters being applied in the report and also in the nqquery.log. I have tried in vain, and nothing. The filters are never being applied for the test user. I even verified the user is in the specified app role via their my account->app roles tab. Now has anyone had this experience or now is there something that must be done additionally now.
    Very frustrated... ;(

Ok, so I have found the solution and ultimately the answer to why the object level and row level security was not being applied. It so happens that the app policy: 'resourceType=oracle.bi.server.permission, resourceName=oracle.bi.server.manageRepositories all' not only allows the management and access to online RPDs; but, IT ALSO DOES NOT APPLY SECURITY/PERMISSIONS IN THE RPD TO THAT USER thus you are super user. So the OOTB BIAdministrator app role which my AD user was being assigned never had any security applied due to this. How I tested:
    1) I created a test user
    2) Assigned that user to the BIAuthor app role and saw that they had the security applied that I was testing, which was simple object denial and row-level security to just one year on the date dim.
    3) Since it was working, I then assigned that user to the BIAdministrator role. This produced that the test user now does not have any restrictions that I set and that were working before. Thus, security/perms in the RPD are not applied.
4). I removed the user from the BIAdministrator app role, kept in the BIAuthor app role and then created new test app role. I mapped that user to this new role along with the BIAuthor role. I then proceeded in creating new app policy with just that policy and assigning the new app role to it.
    5) I logged into the presentation services again with this test user after assigning to new app role and policy. My test user again does not have the security being applied and does not get any perms/security that I set and applied in the RPD. On top of that my test user is now able to login in online mode to the rpd via the bi admin tool.

  • Implement row-level security using Oracleu2019s Virtual Private Databases (VPD)

Environment: Business Objects XI R2; Oracle 10g
    Functional Requirement:
Implement row-level security using Oracleu2019s Virtual Private Databases (VPD) technology. The restriction is that the Business Objects Universe connection should use a generic/u201Capplicationu201D database user account. This will allow the organization to avoid the situation where the Business Objects password and the Oracle password need to be kept in synch.
What do we need from the Business Objects support team?
    1.     Review the 2 attempted solutions that we have tried to implement
    2.     Propose solutions/answers to open questions for each of the attempted solutions
    3.     Propose any alternate solution that will help us implement the Function Requirement stated above
Attempted Solution 1: Connection String uses Oracle Proxy User
The connection string that is specified in the Universe is the following:
    app_user[end_user]/app_user_pwdarrobaDatabase.WORLD
    app_user = generic application user
end_user = the oracle account of the end user which is set using arrobaVariable('BOUSER') app_user_pwd = password of the generic application user
We have tried and implemented this in our test environment. However, we have some questions and concerns around how the connections are reused in a connection pool environment.
    Open Question for Solution 1:
    i. What happens when multiple proxy users try to connect on at the same time?  Business Objects shares the generic app_user connect string.  However, every user that logs on will have their own unique proxy user credentials.  Will there be any contention involved?  If so, what kind of errors can we expect?
ii. If a user logs on using his credentials (proxy user), and business objects opens up a connection to the database using that user's credentials (as the proxy user but logging in through the generic app user). Then the user exits out --> based on our test today, it seems like the database connection remains open.  In that case, if another user logs on similarly with their credentials, will business objects simply assign the first users connection to that second user?  If so, then our security will not work.  Is there a way that Business Objects can somehow ensure that everytime we close a report, the connection is also terminated both at the BO and DB levels?
iii. Our 3rd question is general high level -> How connection pooling works in general and how it is implemented in BO, i.e. how are new connections assigned, how are they recycled, how are they closed, etc.
Attempted Solution 2: Using the ConnectInit parameter
Reading through a couple of the Business Objects documents, it states that u201CUsing the ConnectInit parameter it is possible to send commands to the database when opening the session which can be used to set database specific parameters used for optimization.u201D
Therefore, we tried to set the parameter in the Universe using several different options:
    ConnectInit = BEGIN SYSTEM.prc_logon('arrobaVARIABLE('BOUSER')'); COMMIT; END; ConnectInit = BEGIN DBMS_SESSION.SET_IDENTIFIER('arrobaVariable('BOUSER')'); COMMIT; END;
Neither of the above iterations or any variation of that seemed to work. It seems that the variable is not being set or being u201Cexecutedu201D on the database.
One of the Business Objects documents had stated that Patch ID 38, 977, 350 must be installed in our BO environments. We have verified that this patch has been applied on our system.
    Open Questions for Solution 2:
How do we get the parameter ConnectInit to work? i.e. what is the proper syntax to enter and what other things do we need to check to get this to work.
Note: Arroba word is being used instead of the symbol in order to avoid following error message:
We are sorry but your message can not be posted since you have included an email address. Please remove the email address and re-post.

the connectinit setting should look something like this:
    declare a date; begin vpd_setup('@VARIABLE('BOUSER')'); Commit; end;
The vpd_setup procedure (in Oracle) should look like this:
    CREATE OR REPLACE procedure vpd_setup (p_user varchar)IS
    BEGIN
      DBMS_SESSION.set_vpd( 'SESSION_VALUES', 'USERID', p_user );
    END vpd_setup;
Then you can retrieve the value of the context variable in your vpd functions
    and set the vpd.

  • Parent-child hierarcy - row level security

    Hi,
Im using OBI 11.1.1.5 and have a problem about row-level security in parent-child dimension.
I have created a parent-child dimension, simlar to:
    a1
    --a1.1
    ----a1.1.1
    ----a1.1.2
    --a1.2
    ----a1.2.1
By using a session variable 'SESVAR1', I want to restrict the visible hierarcy. For instance user 'a1.1' should only see:
    a1.1
    --a1.1.1
    --a1.1.2
To do this I created a parent-child closure table with the whole dataset. Then I created a physical table using select statement with my session variable in repository. Whenever I viewed data in repository, it showed the correct set.
I created a parent-child dimension, using the original parent-child closure table. But since current distance values are different from the original hierarcy, I can not managed to build a security such a security system with this method.
How can I build a security system, that a member can only see its child hierarchy only?
    Thanks for answers and links...

According to searches I made in support.oracle and google, it seems that it is not possible to view just a branch of a parent-child tree. Because the closure table is static. Therefore, you can not change the distances of objects dynamically.
This parent-child ability is very frustrating for me. As I understand, parent-child dimension ability can only be used in read-only sources. Any filtering or dynamic changes does not seem possible in this structure. Any changes on parent-child table requires parent-child relation table to be rebuilt.
I couldnt find any functionality of indexcol or choose functions in parent-child dimensions. I think they can only be used in level based dimensions.
    Any comments appriciated..

  • Row Level Security (VPD)

We are enhancing our corporate security model using VPD fine grain access to allow more flexible policies. This will provide different levels of row level access on each set of mart fact tables (Health Board level access on Mart A, GP Practice level on Mart B etc). We also want different column level security (masking) on common dimensions depending on which mart is being queried, e.g. a user might be allowed to see confidential patient columns when querying Mart A, but not on Mart B.
OID groups hold user attributes, and we can retrieve these via logon trigger and policy functions and then set user contexts accordingly.
When a query is submitted to the database (via Business Objects), it triggers the policy function on a particular mart fact table(s), which applies the particular row level constraint based upon the users context. So far so good. Problem is, when any dimension policy functions are being triggered (at the same time), they need to know which particular Mart is being queried, so that they can retrieve the correct user context to apply either confidential or non-confidential column masking.
I basically need a means of interrogating the SQL before (or as) it reaches the dimension policy functions, from which the function can identify the Mart from the named tables in the SQL FROM list. Is there a way of doing this, or some other mechanism entirely for delivering this level of access control?
One solution is to have a separate dimension view specific to each Mart. A particular view would join to a particular mart (in Business Objects), and the policy function amended for each. However we would rather avoid this as it could mean up to 20 + views for each dimension, and require a substantial maintenance overhead.
    Thanks

Why would you want a situation where USER1 cannot see any of the data in the table but owns a procedure that allows him to update any row in the table? That would basically defeat the purpose of using VPD-- if USER1 can circumvent the VPD policy in this procedure, USER1 can circumvent the policy in any procedure and can create procedures that allow him to view and manipulate the data.
Can you provide a bit more background about what problem you're trying to solve? Why does USER1 need to own the procedure if USER1 isn't allowed to see any of the data? Are you trying to write a procedure that will apply the caller's VPD policy (i.e. when USER2 calls the procedure, he can only update the rows that his VPD policy allows him to see)? Or do you want the procedure code to bypass the VPD policy entirely? Why are you fine with granting USER2 the ability to bypass the VPD policy but you are not OK granting USER1 that same privilege?

  • Row-level security(VPD) problem

    Hi,
    ADF BC, Jdeveloper 11.1.1.3.0
We want to implement Row-level security in ADF by VPD, and do following:
1, create VPD policy according to the following sample
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/10g/r2/prod/security/vpd/vpd_otn.htm
2, Override prepareSession(), and set user info by dbms_application_info.set_client_info; in policy function get the user info, and implement filter logic.
The confusing problem is: When first user login, data has been filtered right. But, when the second user or third user login, it gets the first user's data.
We also use SQL Trace, and find the second user's operation(SQL) are not recorded in SQL trace file, the view object may not query database. We test clearCache(), viewCriteria with 'Query Execution Mode: Database', and etc, but can not solve the problem.
    I appreciate your suggestion.
    thanks

So how did you tell Weblogic not to cache the SQL statement? I will be using VPD in a new application, and I definitely want to avoid the problem you had.

  • Row level security in Xcelsius through scheduled reports?

    Hi Experts,
Our requirement is to implement row level security in Xcelsius dashboards from SAP BW source through Bex queries which would have authorization variables. We have seen that these Bex authorization variables work in Webi reports and security is applied appropriately. But do they work in upto Xcelsius as well, if we use Live Office Parameter binding option? If it does, then do we need to create prompts agian in Webi?
We have also seen that security is applied if we use the BICS (SAP Netweaver native connectivity) option. However our objective is to schedule as many reports as possible in the dashboard to save on report refresh time at run-time, which is not possible is BICS or QAAWS. Therefore the best option for us would have been if we could apply row level security on scheduled reports.
Can you please advise on the best approach? Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sougata

Since you are using BEx queries as data sources authorization variables is the only way to apply row level security. This will work fine also for XCelsius dashboards that run in the InfoView (in an SAP logon context eg. when the user uses it's SAP credentials to login into the InfoView) and fetch data on-demand over LO from your WebI reports. Just make sure that the underlying webi reports are set to use SSO.
If you are using scheduled report instances no row level security is applied depending on the context of the user that started the dashboard. XCelsius will get the data that have been saved in the instances. In this case the row level security has been already applied at the moment the report instance was created BUT for the user who scheduled the reports to run.
