Object selection 2

When you send a selection to the back does it become a Master item? Some of my objects are no longer selectable.

I understand your desire to keep the program lean. I like the 'click through a stack' feature myself. Of course, if all these stacked objects are exactly the same shape, you do have to memorize the order - that is not great. But dragging from the margin to a corner is useless when objects are exactly the same size and one is directly over the other - such as a picture in back of a Table.
Being as I work with many programs - a number of them being advanced, I have gotten over the fear of interfaces that offer a lot.
Here is what I am proposing - that we have MORE THAN ONE OPTION.
Wouldn't it be great if everyone could work in a manner comfortable to them? If you like the "click thru a stack" - you got it. If you like the Objects Palette or Layers as in Photoshop - you have that OPTION too.
Novel concept hey?! Give more than one option and let people choose the way they like to work. Boy, wouldn't that be great if our government worked that way, huh?! You know, if you don't like a high tax rate, you don't have to pay. If you love having the government change your dipers, you can pay the high rate and have that service - they just check your taxpayer card to see if option 7 was paid for.
Anyway, one thing I am quite sure you would agree with after using an OBJECTS PALETTE, is that after working with a highly congested document, you would come to appreciate the ability to lock, unlock, select, deselect, hide, show - all from this one palette, without having to click thru a bunch of stacks. This could be a big timesaver when working in a thick forest.

HR Infosets - switch object selection question?

Dear All,
I encounter this issue. I create a HR Infosets using logical database PNPCE. As the requirement of our HR Dept, so we need to add more extras fields (by code).
The problem when we switch on/off object selection (from menu):
- When the object selection is off: all the extras fields I add are available.
- When the object selection is on: all of them are not available.
This is my idea. All the field of infosets will be display when the object selection is on depend on SAP internal field, and the extra field we add by code will not be displayed.
But it's my opinion. So please help me with this issue.

Hi,
We can hide those options by implementing the Layoutsets. If you need to hide those options for standard admin user itself, then you need to change the standard Layoutsets, which is not recommended. These options are defined in the "Command Group" of the Layoutsets.
You can Navigate to Layoutsets thru below path.
Sys Admin -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management ->Content Management -> User Interface -> Settings -> Layoutset
Tweaking over the Layoutset Command group properties will hide the options which you mentioned.

Is it possible to make changes on object selection area???

Hi friends,
I wanna ask a question about portal.
When we connect to portal we choose corporate documents , there are files of departmants like hr, it, corporate general ...
We want some changes in object selection area of these files. For example when we get into object selection area of IT there are objects like favorites, others, personel documents, common document, common documents.
My question is
Can we deduct or hide some of these objects from object selection area? If we can, how can we do it?

We can hide those options by implementing the Layoutsets. If you need to hide those options for standard admin user itself, then you need to change the standard Layoutsets, which is not recommended. These options are defined in the "Command Group" of the Layoutsets.

Keep 3D objects selected in all views?

I've looked in the manual but I often miss the obvious search criteria.
One of the cool features of After Effects is that an object is shown as selected in all 3D views. Switching views leaves the object selected along with its motion path.
Is this not possible in Motion? It's making me really cranky.
Another thing I can do in AE is tell the app to always preview a specific view. That's usually the Active Camera but it's easily changed. With Motion, the preview seems to always be the last view I was working in. That's making me cranky, too.

Hmm, clicking on the upper left corner in each viewport, where there is a black button/drop down list of possible views, seems to work. An object selected in the timeline will remain selected when changing window or viewport focus this way. You can also use the camera view icons in the lower left corner. Thanks. How did you know that? In the manual someplace? I love the Motion manual. No, really, I do.
editorial: That's a stupid way of switching window focus. I'm starting to understand how Motion thinks, though. When I click into a window, Motion assumes I'm clicking into the scene and therefore deselecting everything. Except applications like AE assume the user is intelligent, the first click is merely selecting the view and is not meant to deselect everything.

Paste in place (In front of object selected)

I am running Illustrator CC 2014 and a useful tool that I go to frequently is Paste in Place (Ctrl + F). In older versions of Illustrator when using 'Paste in Place' you could copy an object, select any other particular object, hit CTRL + F, and the copied object would then be placed just in front of the object previously selected. Now, when I 'Paste in Place' it places the object in front of all, instead of at the designated place in a layer's order. Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm working through the Illustrator Classroom in a Book for AI CS6 in the Perspective Drawing section and had this problem. A very easily overlooked setting. Resetting the Workspace DOESN'T clear this. It's apparently saved in the AIPrefs file.

Object Selection Frustrations

I am experiencing the following, very frustrating,
usabilities issues relating to object selection:
1) More often than not when I click on an object in the slide
editing pane in order to select it, I end up moving or resizing it
slightly. This is quickly and easily undone with a Ctrl-Z (Undo),
but it costs me time and mental energy assessing whether or not
this has occurred. Is there a technique for selecting an object
that guarantees that the object won't be modified in any way?
2) In this scenario I have select an object B ('b' for back)
in the timeline pane that is behind another object F ('f' for
front), and I want to modify (move, resize) B in the slide editing
pane. The object B displays in the slide editing pane as though it
is selected (i.e. resize handles), but if I then click on object B
to interact with it, object F >>always<< gets selected.
3) In this scenario I have selected an object in the timeline
pane, and I then want to move it a small amount using, say, the
down arrow. Even though the object appears as selected in the slide
eding pane, pressing the down arrow acts on the >>timeline
pane<< (which still has focus). I have to explicitly click on
the object in the slide editing pane before being able to use the
down arrow to move it. This clicking to select invariably modifies
the object in some unintended manner, as described in scenario 1
above.
I hope there are easy answers to the above issues, as they
are severely impacting on my enjoyment of using the product, and my
productivity.

Re. Issues 1 & 3
Right-clicking on an object in the slide editing pane brings
up the context menu, which I have no need for in the scenarios
described above, however it does appear that I can then safely left
click anywhere on the object to complete the selection process
without disturbing the object in any way.
So a right mouse click followed by a left mouse click
resolves my issues 1 and 3 above. That's non-intuitive, two mouse
clicks instead of just one, but, in the end, achieves the
objective.
Re. Issue 2
Dragging the object up the timeline does indeed resolve the
issue. Again, non-intuitive (since the slide editing pane visually
indicates that the object is selected), more work than necessary,
but achieves the objective.
Regarding the moving of objects up and down the timeline - I
have encountered a fair bit of frustration with this too. Often
times the selected object will refuse to move up or down and I end
up selecting and reselecting it multiple times until it does
eventually behave. Is there any particular trick involved here too.
P.S. Do you trainers not regularly observe trainees
struggling with these basic object selection/manipulation issues?
Haven't these difficulties been reported to eHelp/Adobe over the
years? I would like to think that I am not the 'least common
denominator' when it comes to using software, given that I am a
technical writer who has worked in the software engineering field
for 15 years now.

Why is the FORM OBJECT selection not found in the Preferences/Accessibility selection?

I am using the Dreamweaver cs6. I was wondering why the FORM OBJECT selection is not found in the Preferences/Accessibility selection?

The engineers removed it. Why? That's anybody's guess. You'll have to add them manually. Please refer to the HTML5 forms workflow video below:

OADP settings for MSS Services - Define Rules for Object Selection

Hi
Our client wants to extend MSS to all managers, and to begin with want option of "Only B002 Relationship" in drop down of Team Calendar.
I have tried all standard options but unable to find a suitable rule(Define Rules for Object Selection) which would restrict the list of employee to only B002 Relationship of Manager.
Any ideas on how to achieve it?

I think first concern here should be to make things work at your end...thus I am not focusing on your evaluation path...that you have set....
Just to kick off things so that they start work for you.....
you need to set the evaluation path as I have mentioned in my earlier reply....
These evaluation paths have been working for me...
To correct yours as per mine you need to set
ZB2 as
10 S B 002 Is Line superior of * S
and set
ZB3 as
20 S A 008 Holder * *
Now if still things does not work then...you need to check the Tcode PPOM_OLD and see if the correct reporting relationship (B002) exists for the logged in user.....
These evaluation paths are very confusing for me.....and so I am not trying to correct what you have set in ZB2 and ZB3....
And also note that there can be more then 1 way to achieve your goal with evaluation paths.....

Where is XML Object Selection dialog in xMII 12.05?

I found xMII 11.5 sample senario, I'm trying to do it with xMII 12.05. In senario there is XML Object Selection dialog. But I can not find that dialog in Version 12.05 for illuminator document.
What is the identical of it in version 12.05?

CS5 turn off object selection "target"?

Does anyone know if it's possible to toggle off the object selection target (the thing that looks like a focus ring from an older film lens) that appears as a default within the image box? I can't tell you the number of times I've meant to move an entire image box and accidentally shifted the image within the bounding box instead. It's a-makin me craaazy!

Nobody needs it - I'm clueless to why it was ever introduced?
I turned it off too - but I have to admit I would use it if the target was smaller. With the content grabber on there is too much chance of accidently moving an image within the frame.

Object Tracing? Object Selection?

Hi guys, sorry for the noob-like thread making and whatnot. This question involves both Photoshop & Illustrator. I would Google my current problem if I could but the problem is, I don't actually know what terms to use!
So my question is this: How does one make an object selectable like this? What is this technique even called? Object Tracing?
When I'm compiling catalogues together, having the objects like this really makes life easier (especially with aligning). Currently I am using Photoshop, removing the background and having them saved as PNG, but these guys (the company we sent these product photos to) had them as EPS format.
When I open these files in Photoshop:
Instead of "Layer 0" (which I usually get with the PNGs) the product is part of the "Background" layer.
Any advice on how to achieve the same result? What is it called? What are the advantages of doing this as opposed to just removing the background, making the space around the object transparent and saving it as a PNG file?

Ah, so it's called a Clipping Path. How would the company have done that? Originally all these products had a white albeit dirty white-greyish background. Would they have had to use the lasso tool to select the product, create a new image and save as EPS?

No active version in object selection list

In an DP planning book, when i go for object selection the active version 000 is not been displayed
how to retain the active version in the particular planning book???

The Planning Version displayed in the planning book, is the planning version used when you initialize the Planning Area. If there is no selection the Planning area is not initialized. If there is more than 1 selection, the planning area has been initialized for multiple selections.
Under the Planning Book/Data view section of the shuffler, right mouse click on the book you are using and select: information about Planning Book. You will see the Planning area and a green or red flag. Click the details to go to the specific planning area. You can create (initialize the planning area) time series objects or see the 'created' time series objects.

PC-UI: F4 with multiple object selection

Now I want to give back some data to the application that called the f4 or I'd like to call a method of this class. How can I find the correct instance of this class?

Hi!
I used a DDIC table to exchange data. I forwarded the object_key and the F4-help application inserted the multiple objects with that key in that table.
The application which called the F4-help looked to the table (after pressing a button), grabbed the data and deleted the data in the DDIC table afterwards.

Newbie - Need help for making object selections in InDesign CS2

I am an old PageMaker user and am having difficulty getting indd to make multiple object selections. Is there someone out there who would be willing to do a private discussion so that I can make progress? So far, I have been unable to select multiple objects to copy or move. I do not understand how indd works.

There are basically two ways to select multiple objects, as explained above. Either "marquee" using the selection tool (black arrow) by holding down the mouse button as you drag throught them (same as Pagemaker, except everything you touch will be selected rather than having to completely surround it), or to hold Shift as you click multiple objects, also the same as Pagemaker.
If this isn't working for you, there may be something else happening. First, are you using the Selection tool? The white arrow is the Direct Selection tool which is used to select the content of a frame, the frame path for editing, or any node on any other path for editing. The only time the Direct Select tool will select an entire object is if it is part of a group.
Next, is the object locked in some way? Pehaps the entire layer is locked, or the object is locked individually. I find it easiest to identify locked objects by opeing the Layers panel in CS5 or CS5.5, it's less easy in earlier versions which don't have the expanded Illustrator-style layers panel. In earlier versions, though, you should be able to select an individually locked object, but not one on a locked layer, though you will not be able to move it. In CS5/5.5 there is a preference for whether you can select locked objects, and it is off by default, which in my opinion is a poor choice if you work with legacy files or templates where things are locked to prevent shifting.
Perhaps these unselectable objects are on a master page. Since CS4 objects on a master page have displayed a dotted edge when frame edges are showing. It's possiple to confuse this with the slightly heavier dashed line used to denote the bounding box of a group until you get used to it. Unlike Pagemaker, if you need to select a master object, it can be overridden onto the document page by holding Cmd (Ctrl) + Shift and clciking on it.
The last possibility is there is actually something wrong with your installation of ID. If you run Windows 7 or Vista it could be a problem with large fonts (see http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403039.html). Otherwise it's most likely corrupt preferences and you should read Replace Your Preferences
It would help us help you if you tell us your OS and the version of ID you are using.
