OC4J installed with 11g Database

We are migrating our database and applications to 11g database and imbeded Application Express. Our current configuration is 10g database and JSPs running under the OC4J installed with the database. Our develoment server is running Windows XP and currently has 11g database 11.1.0.6.0 installed, and the Application Express configured and running properly.
In order to provide a smooth transiition from OC4J to Application Express, we would like to continue to run some applications under the OC4J installed with the 11g database, and the converted applications in Application Express, all on the same server and same 11g database installation.
I have started the OC4J processes on the development server with the script:
cd \Oracle\Ora11g\Ora11gDB\oc4j\j2ee\home
java -jar oc4j.jar
and the system responds with:
09/01/08 10:53:29 Oracle Containers for J2EE 10g (10.1.3.0.0) initialized
However, when I try to bring up the console from a browser using:
http://192.168.0.200:8888
I get a the message that the page cannot be displayed.
I understand the 11g OC4J standalone has been discontinued, however it looks like the 11g version I have installed is using the OC4J 10.1.3.0.0.
So is the OC4J installed with 11g not functional, or am I missing a step in the startup/configuration, or URL call.
Thanks,
Rod

Thanks for the replay Michael,
Actually, on the development server I only have the 11g database installed with Application Express configured. The Apex runs on port 8080 and I see that in the netstat -ab listing, but I do not see port 8888 referenced anywhere. All the config files for the OC4J are standard from the db install. The port listed in the http-web-site.xml still shows 8888.
Is it possible that the OC4J is not completing it's startup?
The server.log, and the system-applicaiton.log both show entries indicating it has started, and the global-application.log shows it is started, however the defaultWebApp is not currently started. Here is the complete contents of that file:

  • Installing 10.1.3.1 (want to upgrade to 10.1.3.4) with 11g Database

I want to install SOA Suite 10.1.3.4 on a new laptop I have. I have ins
I checked the certification matrix and saw that SOA Suite was certified with 11.0.6 version of the Database so I installed the 11g database no problem and went to install the SOA SUite 10.1.3.1 last night (would then patch up to 10.1.3.4 afterwards).
I choose Advanced Install, as I want to put the schemas in my 11g database but when I put in my connection details for the DB a window pops up saying that it must be installed on the correct version of the DB, it lists a load of them but 11g is not one of them (10.2 series was the highest).
So 10.1.3.4 is certified with 11g but you can do the base install on 11g, Is this correct?
    Are there any workarounds?
I assume one option is to do a Standard Install where it creates the XE database, then patch up to 10.1.3.4.
Then some how point everthing to my 11g DB afterwards.
    Any ideas?

just found the solution. One needs to follow patch instructions 6265268 even before starting installation to replace the relevant jar files in the installable.

  • Using older client 10201 with 11g database

    Hello,
Are there any issues with using sqlplus client 10201 with 11g database with regard to performance? I would think using the 11g client with 11g database would be preferred but what would be the disadvantage in using sqlplus 10201 with 11g database?
Also, what would be disadvantage if using sqlplus 11g with an older database 10201/10202? Thank you.

I guess the most visible and the prominent issue of using an old version client with the more latest version db would be that the older version client won't be able to display/use some of the newest features. This sounds more like a usability issue than performance issue which you mentioned but that's what which came on top of the mind. Performance should not be affected as the client doesn' do much except to pull the data so if there would be any issues actualy , they would be with the server rather than the client.
    Just my 2 cents.

  • Installing Oracle 11g database (release 2) on Windows 7 Professional 64bit

    Hi All,
I am having a problem installing the Oracle database, I go to the site and download the 2 Oracle zip files.
    I create a directory C:\temp\
I unzip "1of2" and place the "database" folder in my "temp" folder.
Question 1: In the "2of2" do I take the database/stage/components and place them in the "1of2" database/stage/components folder? not sure how to merge the contents of the zips but this seems like the logical thing to do.
    Then I run setup.exe.
    Oracle Universal Installer:
Screen 1: I enter email, and uncheck the oracle support box "i wish to receive security updatesvia My Oracle Support".
Note: little "connection failed" popup box, I check it's box "I want to remain uninformed if critical security issues in my configuration", click continue.
Screen 2: install database software only.
Screen 3: Single instance database installation.
    Screen 4: I select "English"
Screen 5: I choose to install "Enterprise Edition"
Screen 6: it shows me Oracle base C:\app\<myuser>
    software location: C:\app\<myuser>\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1
Screen 7: validating target environment to meet minimum installation loading bar.
ERROR: gets to 100% and the entire OUI abruptly closes with no warning or error message. No further Installation or anything.
please provide so insight on this, I am total at a loss right now and need to get this working.
    thank you,
    Josefina

  • Oracle Discoverer 4i (portal db - oracle 8i) connectivity issue with 11g database

    Hi All
We have oracle discoverer 4i with portal db (oracle 8i).
We connect to the external databases using db links in the portal db and the reports will use the db link to retrieve the data from views in the external databases.
External databases we were connecting is oracle 10g version and now we have upgraded these databases to 11g version.
Now i have a created a new db link to this 11g database and i have created a new EUL in portal to connect to this 11g database.
But when i try to create a report using the discoverer from this new EUL after login to the discoverer we get a "cannot connect to database" error.
We have all the necesscary privilege to the user and the new database link works perfectly fine. (when we try to query directly using SQL plus from portal database using this db link the query works perfectly fine).
Im not sure if this is a compatibility issue in connecting from oracle disc 4i to a 11g database.
Can any one advise if this is the case and if there is any workaround for this?
    Regards,
    Raj

Are you saying you are having issues with a database link between 8i and 11g (pl post exact versions to 4 digits) ? If so, it should be expected as database links between these two versions are not supported. Is there a reason you cannot upgrade the portal database to at least 10gR2 ?

Does anyone have any experience using a 10g pro*c library like libclntsh.so with an 11g database? In testing, it failed looking for libclntsh.so.10.1 but we were able to fix it with a link like such:
    ln -s libclntsh.so.11.1 libclntsh.so
We are not in a position to recompile and link with the new 11g library, but want confidence the 10g library will work after a 10g->11g upgrade.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    rick

    Hi Rick,
If I understand you correctly you have an executable that was built with Pro*C and linked to a 10g version of the client shared library (libclntsh), correct? That library is not specific to Pro*C, but is used as you have obviously discovered!
Now you want to use that executable (with no relink) on a server that does not have a 10g version of the library, but only has the 11g version, correct?
I realize this may not be super helpful, but I have done what you describe (soft link) a couple of times in a test environment, but never long-term. I did not experience any issues with the test environment, but I suppose you could open an SR with Oracle to verify if that is a supported activity.

  • Oc4j starting with Oracle Database & oc4j App Server on same machine

Hi ALL, can anybody help me(pls read this)
This is Sagar, i have created a GIS Application(java) using Oracle 10g.
    Senario I:
oc4j server and oracle 10g Database Server on different machines:
When i start oc4j server with NO. OF Mappers = 64 or 30 in DNS using
    1. oc4j -start (normally)
from the path c:/oc4j/bin by setting ORACLE_HOME path normally
application is working fine but when users are increased say 4 to 5 oc4j server gives error:
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java Heap Space
I searched for this error i found a solution for starting oc4j as follows:
    2.Java -Xmx1024m -Xms1024m -jar oc4j.jar
    from the path c:/oc4j/j2ee/home --- oc4j.jar
Then map & application works fine and fast since heap space is increased to 1GB (speed is noticable)
    but if...(in other senario)
    Senario II:
oc4j server and oracle 10g Database Server on same machine:
if step 2: is used form above senario, oc4j Server does not gets started only it gets initialized...(server does not gets started)
but Step 1: is used application works fine but again heap space error as mentioned above is seen.
Again if changes are made in oc4j.cmd file in c:/oc4j/bin ....by giving the heap space command oc4j works fine but the application(performance) is very very slow but heap space error is not seen.
Please can any body suggest the solution.. application should work fast and also the heap space should be increased but taking the senario - oc4j App Server & Oracle 10g Database Server on Same machine..

    Hello,
How much RAM do you have on the machine? What is the size of the SGA for the database you are using?
if step 2: is used form above senario, oc4j Server does not gets started only it gets >initialized...(server does not gets started)What do you mean by this? Provide the output from the server when you start your server.

  • Forms 10g Builder with 11g Database Release 1 - Connectivity Problems

    Hello All,
I am trying to connect 11g Database (Version 11.1.0.7.0 mounted on Linux) from my Oracle Forms 10g Builder 10.1.2.0.2 in my client PC Windodws XP. But its just hanging and doesnt connects at all.
Strange is that from the same Oracle home i am able to connect to same 11g user through the reports builder 10g and
, sqlplusw and sqlplus from 10g home.
But i am not able to connect to 11g R1 database from my Forms Builder alone. Why is this? Can the PROs get me out of this problem please.
    Thanks in advance.

First, using 10.1.2.0 against 11.x is not recommended. You should at least be using 10.1.2.3 if you plan to work with 11.x. Further, there is a known issue which causes connection, compilation, and some sql execution to run significantly slowly. This issue has been corrected with a patch and new switch. If you have an active Support contact, I would recommend creating a Service Request in order to get the latest information.

  • APEX  all page loads very very slow - Default install with  11G R1

    HI,
I have installed Oracle 11g R2 on my Windows XP desktop. APEX is installed by default in 11G R2. I have tried to use APEX but it runs very slow. For example, bringing up the Oracle APEX admin login page takes to 5 to 7 minutes. Once logged in, performing admin tasks is painfully slow as well.
EM is fast, the pages come up in a few seconds. I am not sure of the exact setup APEX since it is installed by default.
Here is what I have tried so far
    1) localhost:8080/{I can not remember the rest of the url}
    2) ip/8080/
    3) tried both IE 6 and firefox.
    4) turned off the proxy server in IE options. We are on a LAN and use proxy to internet
I ran a search for a dads file on oracle home, but I can not find it. Maybe it is renamed in 11G r2.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,
Check the value of SHARED_SERVERS, if it's set low (which it probably will be if you haven't adjusted it yourself), then you'll probably want to increase the value.
Essentially (if this is your issue) there are insufficient pooled connections available to service all the HTTP connections necessary to render your page, so you're paying a performance penalty waiting for either new connections to fire up, or for busy connections to be free'd up ready to service a new request.
    Hope this helps,
    John.

  • Is OWB 11.1 compatible with 11g database  cubes/dimensions

I heard OWB 11.1 stores data in 10g format and it is not compatible with 11g format. However AWM 11.1 creates 11g compatible data. Is it true? Any idea?
    thanks

    Hi
That is correct, the OWB 10gR2 and 11gR1 releases both generate OLAP 10g style cubes using the AWXML api. AWM 11.1 can create/administer both 10g and 11g styles cubes. Needless to say, it takes a little time to catch up with an ever changing API....plenty of fun stuff to come ;-)
    Cheers

  • Installing Oracle 11g database problem (loopback adatper problem)

Hi, I tried to install Oracle 11g and I got a warning mentioning that I need to install Loopback adapter first.
I followed the Loopback adapter installation instruction from the oracle website, and in the last step I need to add a line to the hosts file. Which is where I got a problem...my laptop doesn't have a domain name, but it's a workgroup name instead.
    So can I put this:
    ip_address host_name
    instead of this:
    ip_address host_name.domain_name host_name
And if we cannot do that, should I try this 2nd method below?:
I also read one thread in the forum saying that we don't need to install Loopback adapter, but instead we have to edit the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora files and make the value for HOST 127.0.0.1.

If I understand you correctly, I should add a line like this in the host file(a, b, c or d??):
example: My computer host name is: "David"
    a) "10.10.10.10 David.testing.com"
    or
    b) "10.10.10.10 David.testing.com David"
    or
    c) "10.10.10.10 localhost.testing.com
    or
    d) "10.10.10.10 localhost.testing.com localhost"

  • Which is better to install Oracle 11g database based on ASM or Filesystem

We will install 2 sets of Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Redhat Linix 5.6 and configure Data Guard for them further -- one will be a primary DB server, the other will be a physical standby DB server. The Oracle DB stoage is based on SAN Array Disk with 6TB size. Now there are two options to manage the DB datafiles:
    1. Install Oracle ASM
    2. Create the tranditional OS filesystem
Which is better? in the past, our 10g data guard environment is not based on Oracle ASM.
Someone think if we adopt the oracle ASM, the shortcomings are :
    1. as there is one more instance that will consume more memory and resource.
    2. as the ASM file system cannot be shown out on the OS level directly such as "df" command, the disk utilization monitor job will be more difficult. at least it cannot be supervised at OS level.
    3. as the DB bshoule be done the daily incremental backup (Mon-Sat) to Local Backup Drive. the bakup job must be done by RMAN rather than user-managed script.
Who can provide some advices? Thanks very much in advance.

Which is better? in the past, our 10g data guard environment is not based on Oracle ASM. ASM provides a host of new features ito data management, and performance - to the extent that you can rip out the entire existing storage system, replace it with a brand new storage system, without a single second of database downtime.
Someone think if we adopt the oracle ASM, the shortcomings are :
    1. as there is one more instance that will consume more memory and resource. Not really relevant on 64bit h/w architecture that removes limitations such a 4GB of addressable memory. On the CPU side... heck, my game PC at home has a 8 core 64bit CPU. Single die and dual core CPUs belong to the distant past.
Arguing that an ASM instance has overheads would be silly. And totally ignores the wide range of real and tangible benefits that ASM provides.
    2. as the ASM file system cannot be shown out on the OS level directly such as "df" command, the disk utilization monitor job will be more difficult. at least it cannot be supervised at OS level. That is a A Very Good Thing (tm). Managing database storage from o/s level is flawed in many ways.
    3. as the DB bshoule be done the daily incremental backup (Mon-Sat) to Local Backup Drive. the bakup job must be done by RMAN rather than user-managed script.
    rman supports ASM fully.
I have stopped using cooked file systems for Oracle - I prefer ASM first and foremost. The only exceptions are tiny servers with a single root disk that needs to be used for kernel, database s/w, and database datafiles. (currently these are mostly Oracle XE systems in my case, and configured that way as XE does not support ASM and is used as a pure cost decision).
