OCS 2007 R2 Response Group Configuration Tool Failure

Hello there.
We are bringing back to life an old OCS installation. Customer performed a clean AD reinstall and we are in the process of re-installing OCS 2007 R2. All seems to work fine, except the RGS. When accessing the web tool we get this error:
Response Group Configuration Tool Failure
An unknown error occurred. The operation cannot complete successfully. Please contact the administrator if this problem persists.

  • Lync 2013 Response Group - timeout issues

I have an Lync 2013 Enterprise Pool deployment with three FE servers.  For the Response Group configuration, the Group is setup as Informal, Alert Time 20 seconds, Routing method as Attendant with a single agent in it.  The Queue is setup
with the Enable queue time out set to 20 seconds and forward call to voicemail to a sip user.  The workflow is huntgroup with routing to Queue during business hours.
when I call from inside or outside, Lync call or PSTN call, the agent gets alerted for 20 seconds while the external caller hears music on hold, but after the 20 seconds, instead of going to voicemail, the call comes back to the agent and the caller hears
nothing for the next 20 seconds.  after two separate 20 second ring cycles for the agent and 20 seconds of music and 20 seconds of dead air for the caller, the call is routed to Exchange UM.
Changing Alert Time or Queue Timeout has no impact on the above behavior (except for the amount of time a call rings during each cycle).  Routing on queue timeout to another user or a number instead of voicemail also results in the same behavior.
I have tested the exact configuration on Lync 2013 Standard Edition and it works fine.
Anyone ran into similar issues with Lync 2013 Enterprise pool?

We just experienced the same issue today on a Lync 2013 Standard Edition server. I originally had the Agents set for Informal Participation, 10 second alert, and Attendant Routing method. The call would come in to the Response Group (either PSTN or internal...same
behavior) and ring all the users. The caller would hear hold music for 10 seconds while all Agents rang. Then the caller would hear silence while the callee's end would stop ringing for a second and then start ringing again (caller's end remains silent).
When I changed the routing method to Serial, I ended up with the same sort of function but broken down by user. So, the caller would hear hold music while the first Agent rang for 10 seconds. Then the caller would hear silence and the Agent's ringing would
stop momentarily and start again. The Queue has a 15 second limit before timeout, so it would timeout to an IVR (as configured) at that time. Because it is in production, I couldn't mess with things too much but I hope to test and make changes this evening
    if needed.

  • Intermittent Failure of incoming calls to Response Group

    Hello,
We're running Lync Server 2010 and intermittently calls coming into the response group don't ring the attendant or take a long time to start ringing. We ARE seeing events in the event log pertaining to the LS Response Group Service as show below. I
haven't been able to find anything on this on TechNet or anywhere else. We are running all of the latest updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did this issue happen to multiple response group?
Did this happen to calls from PSTN calls?
This problem is mostly related with network issue.

  • The Response Group application was unable to transfer the call to the configured destination and no fallback exists

    Hey,
I get this error message when calling into an unassigned number which redirects to a response group:
    From user URI:
    sip:[email protected];gruu;opaque=srvr:Microsoft.Rtc.Applications.Acd:RS6nRGV9DlmpNsLtmz5qeQAA
    To user URI:
    0220198611;phone-context=DefaultProfile
    From user agent:
    RTCC/4.0.0.0 Response_Group_Service Announcement_Service
    Diagnostic header:
26005; reason="The Response Group application was unable to transfer the call to the configured destination and no fallback exists."
Interestingly "To user URI: 0220198611;phone-context=DefaultProfile" is the number off the caller not the destination. I wonder is this a bug? So is the response group trying to transfer to this number and failing because of course it doesnt exist?
As you can see the below the number I am calling is not 0220198611:
    From phone number: 0220198611;phone-context=DefaultProfile
To phone number: +6493760053 From mediation server: onzlyncfe1.domain.co.nz To mediation server: From gateway: 192.168.100.70
    To gateway:
    Disconnected by: +6493760053
Does the calling party's number have to be normalised? If so how can I do this because the global normailisation rules dont seem to apply
in this situation. These rules do work when when calling into a users DDI.
    Also to be clear....
+6493760053 is an unassigned number which is setup to redirect to a response group.
If I assign +6493760053 to a user then it works.
Additionally this works perfectly when the gateway sends the call to our legacy 2007r2 mediation server then on to Lync. If the gateway sends the call directly to the co-located Lync mediation server I get the error described.
I hope I make sense. If you are confused let me know :)
    Help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Hi ANdrew
Kindly advise how you transfered the unassigned numbers to a specific user, i used the below command but it failled, the message displayed but the call never routed:
New-CsAnnouncement -Parent service:ApplicationServer:LyncFE.squareone.local -Name "SQ unassigned number announcement" -TextToSpeechPrompt "You entered an invalid extinsion you will be forwarded to the operator" -Language "en-US" -TargetUri "sip:[email protected];user=phone"
While [email protected] is the sip uri in my lync for the operator
could you advise what is my issue?

  • Response Groups - Duplicate "Built In" Services - Multiple Default Routing Endpoints

    Hello,
I have a Lync 2013 deployment that has been migrated from OCS 2007, to OCS 2007 R2, to Lync 2010, and now to Lync 2013. I am including that information as that may be important for the following discussion.
When the Response Group Service starts, it logs four error messages which I will place at the bottom of this post. The error messages point to duplicate routing endpoints for the same service. Upon review, it appears to me that I have duplicates of the following
two services, when I look up the below SIP addresses with Get-CSApplicationEndpoint.
    Announcement Service
    RGS Presence Watcher
My guess is that during one of these migrations, we ended up with a duplicate service. The problem is - how do I get rid of the duplicate, and how do I know which is the duplicate and which I want to keep? Error messages below.

Do you see the errors on FE1?  How many front end servers are in your pool?  This looks like a communications error.  Can the servers directly communicate with eachother or is there any kind of HLB that's intercepting the traffic?
From FE2, if you ping FE1's FQDN, is the IP address the IP address that's directly assigned to FE1?
If there's anything intercepting traffic, a overactive firewall or endpoint management solution, HLB configuration or other, make sure it's out of the way.  If that's not an issue, off-hours it may make sense to bounce the response group services as
well in case an active instance simply isn't available.

  • Response Group: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.

    Hi all,
I have three central sites with each having a Front End server pool (standard).
Site A and Site B are paired for resiliency. Site C is on its own.
On two of my Front Ends (Site A and Site B), when I click on response group tab i get the following warning on the top of the page:
"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"
I have check out the following articles about dont think they apply to me:
    http://unifiedme.co.uk/2014/01/network-related-instance-specific-error-occurred-accessing-lync-control-panel-response-group-tab/
I dont see any Event logs that would direct me to a cause.
Which database it is complaining about? RGSDYN and RGSCONFIG are local databases as it is an standard installation. What could be the possible cause for this issue?
    Thanks in advance.

My latest change was the addition of Site C.
Going through logs (i must have missed it the first time, with all the noisy EWS errors), i found event ID 31147. I am investigating network issues although I have MPLS running to that location.

  • Cannot upload music file in Response Group Workflow

    Hi Support,
This is multi site deployment. 3 site Lync 2013 Enterprise Edition, site A, B and C.
I'm creating Hunt Group via Response Groupconfiguration tool in Site A.
when I try to upload the music file for 'after business hour message' and 'music on hold' it prompt with error
"the file was not uploaded. An error occurred while trying to upload the file.
The file may be too big"
but I can upload the music file in Site B and C Response Group Workflow using the same file, Verified by test the Hunt Group and its working.
    Detail music file:
    afterofficehour.wav 1.52MB
    musiconhold.wav 1.92MB
    Detail Lync Share folder:
    Right: everyone - Read/Write

    \\LyncShare-B\1-ApplicationServer-1\AppServerFiles\rgs\temp
    \\LyncShare-C\1-ApplicationServer-1\AppServerFiles\rgs\temp
    Any Idea on this issue?

    Hi,
below is the recommendation for the MOH file for RGS,
All wave files must meet the following requirements
    8-bit or 16-bit file
Linear pulse code modulation (LPCM), A-Law, or mu-Law format
    Mono or stereo
    4MB or less
For the best performance of wave files, a 16 kHz, mono, 16-bit Wave file is recommended.
get a file converted to above specs and upload. it should work.

  • Delay in the Response Group Rining / Call Pickup from another Extension

    Dear All,
We have just finished a deployment of Lync 2013 with Sonus 1000 as the Mediation Gateway, we have deloyed polycom VVX 600 phones,
We have two lines E1 and 5 Fxo lines (with same Pilot Number)
I would like the Receptionist to have both E1 DID number and FXO number and her phone to ring when the calls comes from DID line as well as FXO,
    I have the below scenario
    1) Currently the setup is that Receptionist is configured with the E.164 DID number : (Line URI is Tel:+971XXXX500;ext=500), which work perfectly fine
    2) We have added receptionist in Response Group , and setting are (Formal,10 sec , Attendant)
    The issue :
    1) Call forwarding does not work on Response Group (which is by design it self)
    2) When a call comes from the outside to FXO it goes to response group , (there is Music played and the ring on reception is delayed by 2-3 secs) ,
Customer does not want this delay , it should ring immediately with no music,
    3) If the receptionist moves from one location to any other location to another , she should have the ability to remotely perform call forward to that extension by simply dialing few codes on the phone ( I already told customer
about PIN based authentication, by customer does like the idea of signing in or signing out)
    In DIRE NEED OF HELP,
    Regards,
    Hasan Reza,

    Hi,
Did the issue only happen for IP Phone in Response Group or also happen for Lync client in Response Group?
If the issue only happen for IP Phone, it seems to be an known issue. Please Make sure Lync Server update to the latest version and then test again.

  • Lync response group stops after a while with receiving incomming calls

    Hi Folks,
We have a strange issue with the response groups of Lync.
It seems that the response group randomly stops working, what means that the users can't receive their call trough the response groups.
Only the response group call(s) don't work, the pstn -> lync lync-> lync call just works fine.
The quick fix is to restart one of the Lync front end servers.
But, that is not really a solution.
The event viewer don't show anything about this problem. Also the Lync monitoring service don't show anything.
Sometimes restarting the Windows Lync response group services solves the problem, but most of the time we need to restart the whole server.
I'm curious some people has the same experience.
If you need more information about our deployment, please feel free to ask.

    Hi,
I suggest you try to gather some logs on the Mediation server to see what is happening. Please use Lync logging tool and capture the data for S4
and then try to see if there are any errors after reporduce the problem.
Please try to enable logging tool to get detailed report:

  • Response Group Presence

    Hi All,
Ran into a rather rare and strange issue at one of our customer
sit so was wondering if someone has experienced this before. At
that site, in all Lync clients, the presence of one of the Response Groups (IT Helpdesk) looks offline and its icon does not
the normal robot (icon for contacts) but just a
picture less human one. I have checked and there are no users with the same name as the RG. It was fine last week so not sure what happened. Just to add, calls were not being transferred to any agents so had to restart the RGS service to fix it that
    part of working. Any ideas?
    Chris.

Any ideas?  -Nothing more than, restart that service and keep those patches up to date, sorry.
Has anyone experienced this before?  -Yes, me, and I also restarted to fix (also was at current patch level).
I've also experienced a glitch where despite a user's presence being available, and being the first in the group configured to be "serial", she would get the call last.  A restart fixed this as well and it hasn't come back in 3 months.  I've seen
some funny things that the restart fixes it and they don't tend to come back, they're very rare though.  A deep dive in the logger and LcsCDR didn't seem to reveal much other than it just didn't want to offer the call to that user first.

  • Response Group caller ID

    Hello,
We have recently deployed Lync 2013 as a migration from 2010, something our users have noticed what looks like a change in the response group behavior.
When an incoming call comes in you see the usual toast with the caller ID in it as you did in 2010, BUT once the call connects the caller ID appears to be replaced by the name of the server that is currently running the response group service.
Has anybody noticed this? is it something that can be changed as my agents don't care about what server they are connected to they would rather have the caller ID so they can write it down etc...
    Thanks
    James

    Hi,
Does this issue happen when the call came from PSTN or internal Lync users, or both?
I suggest trying to enable logging tool and reproduce the issue to get report for further troubleshooting.

  • Control Panel Response Groups Empty/Blank

Good day all - I am starting to tinker around with Response Groups and was going to create my first group. However, when accessing the Response Groups via Control Panel, nothing is labeled. Also, I noticed (running Lync 2010) there is not a service running
labeled "Lync Response Group" (not sure if this is required). My account is a member of the CSResponseGroupAdminstrator
    Thanks

If that your only Lync pool and you're still configured for EV without that enabled?  I didn't know that was possible.  :)  Interesting.
That said, if you go to the properties on your Standard Edition Pool, you should be able to check that box.  Once checked, you'll need to publish the topology and rerun step 2 of the Lync deployment wizard to add the new roles.  Once the role are
added, you'll need to start additional services or reboot.  I'd suggest working with that off-hours and making sure you have a backup of your topology if you need to back out.
