OCS Content Services to Content DB

Looking for clarification on the following:
1. Can users of OCS Content Services upgrade to Content DB under their current OCS license?
2. Is Content DB the foundation for Universal Content Management?
3. Is Content DB related to the Content DB Suite?
4. Is there an upgrade path from OCS Content Services to Content DB to Content DB Suite to Universal Content Management?

Content Services will remain as part of Collaboration Suite, however at this stage there is unlikely to be further development into the Content Services product (at least from the original content dev team). The collaboration suite people are hard at work for the 11g release.
Content DB was originally a fork in the codelines, and a rebundling under Database Enterprise Edition. It is actively worked upon (by the original content dev team) and is the content component of the new Oracle WebCenter.

Assuming the Stellent acquisition proceeds, Content DB will also serve as a content infrastructure repository for various Stellent ecm solutions.
http://www.stellent.com/stellent3/groups/mkt/documents/nativepage/oraclefaq.pdf
So for any customer wanting to get the new/increased Content Management functionality - particuarly for content-centric custom applications, they will need to move to Content DB.

  • Upgrade path from Content Services to Content DB

Is there an official/unofficial upgrade guide on how to migrate from OCS Content Services to Content DB?
And what about the licensing for the existing Content Services users?

Contact your Sales/Account rep for licensing details - I believe there is some grandfather style licensing upgrade model in place.
In terms of a migration/upgrade patch for Content Services to Content DB, we are currently looking in to this. For the time being though, we suggest that all new installations of Content Services actually utilize the Content DB installer (instead of the OCS installer).

    hi all,
i've solved the problem by cleanly remove .profile under oracle login directory. not sure whether OUI refers this file during installation. in the new installation, i also use two UNIX users, one for infra tier, another for apps tier. this time, there is no single error reported.

  • OCS Content services web user interface

    Greeting all,
Is Oracle drive client required to perform the edit feature when attempting to select edit under the web based content services on a file. When I select edit from the web based user interface on a file I get a error saying that oracle drive is not installed.

I reinstalled with the newer version as the upgrade from the previous version was not to smooth, and I was left over with to many broken pieces after the upgrade attempt.
I suspect that I'm going to find out that the file versioning and check in and check out features are going to require oracle drive installed as well. This is not a option for us, as our remote clients need to use a pure web type interface/connection. It seems as if oracle still has some work to do to get the content services Web UI to were we need this to go.

  • Content Services Sessions.

    OCS - 10.1.2.3
We have written some back end processes which call the OCS web services to create connections(using a single batch user ). We connect using Service-2-Service authentication.
    Server settings are:
Node settings- Maximum Sessions Per User = 100, Maximum Concurrent Requests Per User = 100
    OC4J_CONTENT = ifsDefaultService = Max sessions = 40.
    We are running these batch processes to create folders, assign security to folders and copy documents between folders. Each of these processes creates a connnection, performs the required action then call disconnect();
We are getting the following error constantly, has anyone come across this

  • Content Services Provisioning.

My understanding is that when a user is provisioned they are only partially provisioned unitl the user logs into Content Services.
This creates a problem in the fact that I use the webservice API to identify users to assign access to folders during an automated BPEL process. The problem is that if this process starts before the user has logged into CS at least once then it does not find the user.
Is it possible to either programmatically fully provision users or to somehow simulate what is down when a user intially logs in through the web client.

I have had all kinds of problems and have had to look for many hours on metalink, forums and the net to piece together ocs 10.1.2. I now see that they have given a huge patch out for every aspect of ocs 10.1.2. Hopefully, after implementing these patches will solve most of these problems. If not, then you will as I have done create a service report about exactly the problem you are having. Hopefully, they can resolve the issue. I am willing to help you, but I would need a good description of your problem first.

  • Content Services and OLS

Is Oracle Content Services 10g integrated with OLS? Will OCS 11g be integrated with OLS? That is, can I label each file or folder with an Oracle Label Security label (column in the table where the document or document metadata is stored) and have OLS protect the document, based on the users OLS accesses. The DB would need to individually identify the user who is accessing the document, either through a DB user account, or through an OID account (OID enabled OLS), or have the ability to set a users OLS session label every time they attempt to access the Content Services application. The end result would be that a user who is cleared at Secret would not see any files or file metadata classified as Top Secret.

No. Content Services has its own ACL model that is enforced through all the supported access paths: protocols, UIs, APIs etc. Users do not see any files that they do not have access to.

  • Provisioning users in content services

    Hello.
I am having trouble with provisioning a couple of users for content services. I have ssl enabled on ocs 10.1.2, and I have discussions and workspaces enabled. Most of my users have content services enabled when loggging into portal, but I have two users that content services is not initializing with. The content services box is empty except for the warning "Failed to retieve content. Contact System Administrator if problem persists." I have tried to deprovision and reprovision content in the oiddas but to no avail the services for those users never seem to get provisioned. I removed one of the users from the directory and created the same user again. Beware that causes the user to be unable to log into the portal until you have deleted the user from the portal schema in the database. Any suggestions or help with my problem will be greatly appreciated.

I have had all kinds of problems and have had to look for many hours on metalink, forums and the net to piece together ocs 10.1.2. I can't find a FTP URL on OCS10g Content Services.
How to connect FTP service of OCS 10g Content Services?

Finally, I can connect to workspaces successfully.

You can enable FTP for Oracle Content Services so that users can upload and
download files using FTP. The FTP protocol is disabled by default after Oracle Content
    Services is installed and configured.
To enable the Oracle Content Services FTP server:
    1. Access the Oracle Collaboration Suite Control and navigate to the Content
    Services Home page.
    2. You may want to change the default port number for the FTP server. To do this:
    a. In the Administration section, click Server Configurations.
    b. Click FtpServerConfiguration.
    c. Click IFS.SERVER.PROTOCOL.FTP.Port, in the Properties section.
    d. Update the Value with the desired port number and click OK.
    e. Click OK on the Edit Server Configuration page.
    3. Return to the Content Services Home page and click Node Configurations, in the
    Administration section.
    4. Click the name of the node configuration that corresponds to the node where you
want to run the FTP server. You can only run the FTP server on regular nodes; you
cannot run FTP on HTTP nodes.
    5. Scroll down to the Servers table and click FtpServer.
    6. Select Active and Initially Started.
    7. Click OK on the Edit Server page.
    8. Click OK on the Edit Node Configuration page.

  • Is Content Services the right tool?

    Hi all.
I'm investigating the features of Content Services and I have a couple of (hopefully simple) questions.
    1) Can I install / use / license Content Services WITHOUT OCS?
    2) One of the requirements I have to meet is document locking and versioning. IOW, when one user opens (eg. via Oracle Drive) or downloads (via browser) a document, this should be locked (nobody else can download/edit it) until the user closes it or uploads a new version. Can I do that with Content Services? Do I have to use the CM SDK?
    TIA for you help.
    Alessandro

    Thanks for your QUICK reply!
You can license just Content Services without the
rest of OCS.And is there a separate download I can grab somewhere (provided I already have AS 10g installed)?
Are you sure you want to lock documents whenever a
document is opened? How will the documents get
unlocked? Can you tell me what your use
    case/business requirement is?
Content Services supports a user getting exclusive
access to a document via explicit locks as well as
check-out (when versioning is enabled).I have to build an Intranet site (probably using Portal). One section should allow people to upload docs (no problem here) and to UPDATE them (creating new versions). But the customer has requested that each doc can be modified only by one person at a time (that is, the other users will see the doc as "read-only" until the update is done or cancelled).
AFAIK, this isn't possibile with Portal alone (but I can be wrong), so I was thinking to somehow "integrate" some features of Content Services into Portal, eventually writing a custom app, if needed.
    Thanks again for your assistance.
    Alessandro
