October 6 updated freezes my Mac

I just installed the October 6 Photoshop update and my entire computer freezes as soon as I open any dialog window in Photoshop. I'm running a Mac Pro with 10.7.5 installed. I had a similar problem with the latest InDesign update. For that I removed the WhatsNewBundle (or something similarly named) and that fixed things. I tried removing the com.photoshop.welcome folder within the Package Contents, but that didn't help. So, I've uninstalled the thing and am going to re-install an earlier version.
Anyone have another suggestion?

our 10.7.5 systems are clean installs with no 3rd party plug-ins.

Dreamweaver template update freezes on Mac

Hi all,
I hope someone can help me only I am running Dreamweaver CS5.5 on an iMac (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2) and when I go to save a template I get the usual 'update all files linking to that template' window but when I click update nothing happens and I get left with the option to stop or close. If I re-start the program it works again for a while then it happens again. Is this a known bug or is there something wrong with my software?
I have been using Dreamweaver for several years now and I'm not doing anything different to what I usually do.

Update freezes on Mac

Hi
I was trying to update my software for 'Digital Camera RAW compatability update' and 'iWork update' and my app store has frozen on the update and says 'checking for updates' on the top left of the app store. I have since searched for the updates on Apple and successfully installed these, but the frozen update still appears in the app store. I can't shut down my MacBook because the app store is trying to update.

Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.

If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.

If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
- You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
- Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
- Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
- Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

Ipod update freeze, firewire problem, possible fix for many.

Hello all,
I've been having a problem with my ipod 3rd gen updating in much the same way as many in this forum have throughout a number of topic threads.
PROBLEM:
During song/playlist/content (not software update or restore) updating function one of two things would happen:
- update would freeze at some point of the transfer (5, 74, 687 songs in to the update) and I would have to force quite itunes and, not being able to dismount the ipod through recommended procedure, I would physically dismount the ipod and receive a scolding for improper dismounting of device.
- system would crash at some point of the transfer yielding the shaded screen and a prompt to restart the computer by depressing the front panel button for two seconds.
In each of the above cases, no matter how many songs that itunes thought it had transferred, I would only have about a dozen songs on the ipod itself, perhaps indicating a bottleneck on the G4 end of the transfer.
DEADENDS FOR ME THAT MAY STILL SOLVE PROBLEM FOR SOME:
- swaping out cables
- ipod software restore or restore to earlier version
SOLUTION:
After contacting Apple support, I was led to the opinion that the problem was with the firewire port itself. This was confirmed by attaching my ipod with my cable to a roomates G5 resulting in a faultless transfer of his song library. I was ready to go out and purchase a new firewire PCI card but decided to research firewire problems in the G4 folder of Discussions. This is where I found the fix to my problem (see links at bottom of document). It would seem that Mac ports, both firewire and USB, have a tendency to bog down after awhile and need to be reset. This can be a addressed by one of three possible solutions. The first and easiest was the solution that worked for me (for other solutions please follow links at bottom of page):
- powered down and disconnected all firewire and USB cables from the G4
- disconnected power cable from G4 (for laptops I would guess that the battery would need to be removed, not sure if that causes any other problems though, please research)and let sit for about 30 minutes.
- reconnected all cables and restarted computer. Ports should be reset at that point
- I took the added measure to restart my computer once with nothing attached to USB and firewire ports and then powering down with front panel button before connecting cables and proceding with final restart.
RESULT:
Faultless transfer of 37.6 gigs of content in less that 45 minutes.

i have had the problem that everyone has posted about (i.e. - updated iTunes/iPod software and had the update/freeze problem, tried all solutions, to no avail, and was pretty much screwed.)
JUST DO EXACTLY WHAT HE SAYS TO DO (powermac g5, by the way):
1) power down the computer
2) unplug EVERYTHING (usb, firewire, power, monitor, etc.)
3) leave unplugged for 30 minutes
4) plug power back in
5) power up from main power button
6) wait for computer to start back up, then shut down from power button
7) plug everything back in and power up
8) restart once more for good measure
9) update your ipod
10) take a sigh of relief!
you are seriously a godsend...only one thing...I BOUGHT A NEW ONE ALREADY!!! i literally bought it the day that you posted this solution. After a month and a half of trying to fix this problem, i finally gave up and bought a 20GB iPod Photo with applecare...cost me about $380.
no matter, i think i'm gonna sell my "older" ipod to my mom or dad. they'll use it doing whatever they do. plus, that way, if there's any problem, i can fix it for them without feeling bad about screwing over some stranger.

10.3.9 combo update freezes during intall

I downloaded the 10.2.9 combo update on another Mac with a broadband conecction, (I onl have a dailup connection here at home), burned the download to CD and have attempted to update my eMac using the installer which I had burned.
I did a REPAIR PERMISSIONS as suggested by others, dragged the installer to the desktop and started the installation from the icon on the desktop. Everything was going well until the end when the installer was at the OPTIMIZING SYSTEM PERFORMANCE stage. At 37% complete, everything froze.
Luckily, I was able to restart, and to be safe, and I ran Disk First Aid, Repair Permissions and DiskWarrior.
Everything seems normal, but I am reluctant to try to install the update again for fear of another freeze.
Any suggestions?

Your post is a bit confusing because the title mentions 10.3.9 combo updater, you also mention 10.2.9 (which doesn't exist, so I think you meant 10.3.9), and your signature indicates 10.3.5.
You should know that the "optimizing" step happens AFTER the system updates have actually already finished installing. If you got through 37% of the "optimizing" stage, then you should be running under 10.3.9 right now.
Check under the Apple menu, top left of your screen, the "about this mac" item, report back here what version of the operating system you have. I am guessing it is 10.3.9, in which case I would say you are done and can go use your new system.
If you really got to the optimizing step, you do not need to reapply the combo update.
It would be nice to know why the optimizing did not complete, but it can take a very very long time, and sometimes it can appear to be make no progress for a number of minutes, then it picks up again. On older Macs, I try not to even watch it because it takes so long and it makes me nervous. Maybe there was some small power fluctuation or some such glitch, but from the sounds of things, you have a healthy system.
If you really want to finish the "optimizing" step (the sole purpose of which is to make programs start quicker), you can download a free program called Onyx and it has an option to perform "prebinding," which is what the "optimizing" does. I'd make a backup of everything before doing that -- in fact make sure you have a backup anyway because the "optimizing" freeze could always be due to some hardware problem that could get worse, so better to be safe than sorry.
If it were me, I'd simply not worry about it -- you'd have real problems if your computer had "frozen" during the update itself, but the "optimizing" step is not critical to the computer working properly.

Bridge CC is asking my to 'purge cache'. When I do this doesn't work and freezes my mac. Bridge is unable to work at all. Please help?

Hold down the Option key as you launch Bridge, keep it down until you see a dialog box, then click all three options in the re-set box that comes up.
If you don't see that re-set box, you're doing it wrong, i.e., you're not holding the Option key down fast enough.

I had a similar problem myself. This is what helped me.
I went to the App store app, scrolled to the bottom, logged out of the account, re logged in with my Apple ID. Then went back to app updates. Once I put in my ID password all was fine.

now what if the pc that was originally used to sync my ipod , has corrupt or bad systems files that are causing it from working correctly...? when i plug it in to the o.g. operating sysytems (win xp) it doesnt ever recognize or discover the ipod through itunes. the pc will pop up the "cameras been plugged in, what would you like to do...?" but nothing thru itunes. now if i reboot & run the windows 7 operating system w/itunes that has backed my ipod before & synced a few times as well, but not the o.g. op system used from the beginning (the very initial set up done on the ipod) it works fine, but DOES give me the warning "updating to 5.0 willdelete some of your apps & media, including ... ....will only preserve contacts, calenders," ....etc.
MY HUGE CONCERN IS if i do hit update & go through w/it, & not having been able to sync it to the one normally used to sync my ipod, will that back up i made be able to restore my game seetings, GAME SAVES, & data achievement type information....?
please, i'm very hesitant to go through w/it, so if you can please help me out here & let me know asap.....i canimagine you're all busy busy, so i thank you for your time here w/this

Not that hard. One the computer you are using do the following:
- Transfer iTunes purchases.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
- Transfer other music using a third-party program like one of those discussed here.
Copy music
- If you have synced photos you need a paid program like TouchCopy or PhoneView
- When all the media in on the computer, connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
- Restore the iPod from that backup.
That computer is now your syncing computer. Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps or music.

My Mac has 4 mail accounts coming into it, but you are correct, one of them is a POP account, (and unfortunately it is the main @ account, and is the one associated with my apple id, since we've had it for years). I couldn't figure out how to replace this with the Imap version, short of deleting that account entirely.
Is this what I have to do?

My Genius mixes do not update/sync from MAC to iPhone 5S

My original sync from mac to iPhone (when I first bought it) is there, but since then any & all subsequent updates (new songs, deleted Mixes still showing on iPhone, removing Holiday songs from Genius) will update in my mac but not on my iPhone 5S? I have Match and have tried updating Genius & Match numerous time but no luck Any advice?

okay.. when you connected your iphone to your mac and click an on device summary. then scrolled down the. there should a line that says Manually manage music and videos. if is not have a check on the box click, then click on it after that click on that says apply and then you should be done

ColdFusion 8 Fails to start after update Java for Mac OSX 10.5 Update 4

I have been using ColdFusion on a Mac for years. Now CF fails to start after I updated Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4. I usually start by typing in the terminal window sudo /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin/ColdFusion start.
There is a crash report but I don't know how to read it. See attached.
Please help, I need this working for my job.

I had moved the Java SE 6 to the top in both Plugin and Applications. The
correct version is showing in the terminal window. See below.

CF will not start. I have the activity monitor open, and when I start CF you
see it in the activity monitor for a few seconds as it starts up. When the
message process is completed in the terminal window CF disappears in the
activity monitor.
Any suggestions?

My apologies but I forgot to ask 2 questions: (1) What kind of Mac you have
(Intel or PowerPC)? (2) What version of CF are you running and what installer
did you choose (8 or 8.0.1, 32-bit, 64-bit, etc.)?
To start, try the following:
1. Normally you'd shut CF down first ... but that's not necessary for you
2. Open Java Preferences again
3. Select Java SE 6 and move it (drag) to the top spot in both section (Applet
Plugin and Applications)
4. Open Terminal
5. Type java -version (you should see 1.6.0_13 as the new version)
6. Try to start CF again
This may not work (I've had issues with it) but it's technically how it's
supposed to work. With the Java Preferences utility, you're visually setting a
default JVM (you can do it with commands in Terminal but this is much faster
and easier).
If CF still won't start, look for the jvm.config file in your CF application
folder (try /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin or
/Applications/ColdFusion8/runtime/bin -- the latter is where a jvm.config file
is on my machine for a particular version of CF that's installed similar to
yours). You can override the JVM in this file but, hopefully, that won't be
necessary!
