ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E wont read DVDs anymore

ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E (05.2014) wont to read DVDs anymore. It doesn't matter which one I try it simply doesn't work.
Latest driver is installed.

Hi
If optical disc drive is installed properly maybe is reading lens dirty. Try to clean it up.
Other way, if your ODD can read CDs but not DVDs it can also be hardware malfunction. The reading lens cannot be calibrated properly and cannot find the right position to read DVD media.
In such case ODD must be exchanged.
Try to clean lens up and check if the problem persists. If yes contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

  • Satellite A60-302: CD drive read DVDs and CDs but not burned discs

I have a Toshiba laptop: Satellite A60-302 and I have a problem with the cd drive. It can read dvds and discs that I buy but it wont read all burned discs (even ones that I burned with the laptops own burner). Only from time to time it will read a burned disc.
I have tried cleaning the cd drives laser eye but it didnt help.
Does anyone know what the problem might be?

    Hi
This sounds like the CD burner doesnt burn CD properly.
You have suggested that you have used different kinds of CDs.
In the user manual you will find a list of compatible medias.
These medias was tested and should works properly.
But if this happens with all CDs so possibly the drive cannot works properly and only a replacement could solve this issue.

  • Wont read dvds

OSX wont read my all my burnt DVDs. Some of them work, but not all.
    Any fix for this?

    Hi, Bill.
First, patience is a virtue here. There's no commitment that any question posted here will be answered in any given time period. All answers are posted by volunteers on a best-effort basis.
I'd recommend that you check Console for clues, i.e. specific error messages that may display in the Console logs when the DVDs fail to "work."
Also, think about what differentiates those that "work" from those that don't.
Likewise, please define what you mean by "work." For example, do you mean DVD Player doesn't open? Are these video or data DVDs? etc.
As you can see from the questions I've asked above, you've also not provided much info in your original post, so perhaps that may explain why no one answered. Providing details in a well-crafted question helps one to get answers.
    Good luck!

  • Wont accept dvds anymore

Macbook pro was dropped and now it wont accept or take in dvds anymore. wondering if it needs a new superdrive

Thanks for the advice Mike - tried it but no go. It's almost as if there's a physical blockage, but there's no reason there should be one.  Very strange indeed.
    Any other ideas? Anyone?

  • Mountain Lion via clean install (USB) but wont read dvd/cd

I did a clean install of my mountain lion on my Mid-2009 MacbookPro 15". Everything was running fine. Until I tried to burn a cd. Thought it was a media issue. So didn't bother burning the disc after all. Then I tried playing an audio cd, the systems thinks it's an empty disc. Next tried to load my Snow Leopard installation disc (DVD), it got ejected too. All i get is the following with all cds and dvd, burnt or blank also the same.
I have tried repairing disk permissions before system bootup and also after system bootup via disk utilities. It didn't fix the problem.
I also tried blowing the superdrive with a camera lens blower. Didn't help either.
What else can I do before bringing it to the Genius bar?
    Thanks.

I am lucky to have stumbled upon this thread. The drive was dirty.
I took a membership ID plastic card wrapped a lens cloth over, sprayed some glasses cleaning solution, swipe it inside the drive a couple of times... and voila it worked!

  • Satellite Pro M30: Can't read DVDs on DVDrw drive

    I cant read dvds...
i can burn them but when i start to read them it shows me an error like this " E:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."
    its killin me, please help

    Hi
The I/O device error occurs if drive has a problem with the disc or your system config (mainly a disc problem).
The DVD drive cant read all DVDs or just the burned DVDs?
Which burning software did you use?
As far as I know you should always closed the burning session.
Furthermore if you need the DVD Shrink software please check this links:

  • Superdrive wont read discs anymore

My superdrive was working perfectly fine, I used it for hours which i think might be a part of my problem but suddenly after inserting a disc it stopped responding, the disc still spins around and makes noises and seems like its working but nothing shows up on my desktop. after a long time maybe 5 mins or so it says that the cd is blank and asks me how i want to continue!!!! CD i inserted is not blank!  PLLLZZ HELP MMEEE

I have always had a Mac Mini desktop.  I had 3 Superdrives just quit working or have issues over the years.  I could plug in an external DVD drive and the disk and other functions would work fine.  But the internal drive would not read the disk!  My MacBook would read the disk with the internal drive, but not the MacMini.  I have upgraded my MacMini and there is no superdrive, so I connected an external unit and I have not had any problems.  My MacBook internal drive has never had problems and it's at least 6 yrs old now.
For some reason, I just never had those superdrives work for very long in the MacMini desktop.  If out of warranty, the least expensive way to go is to buy an external drive and see if that works for you.  OWC, which carries a lot of Mac related stuff, has some at reasonable prices, fast shipping and they are a reliable company.  No, I don't work there.
Btw, I never found any workarounds.  Once they started messing up, they only got worse.
Oops, I meant to reply to OP!  But, now I can't find a way to change that.  Sorry.

  • Satellite C70D-A-11T - Sound doesn't work with HDMI

    Hello,
I have buy a Satellite C70D-A-11T and pass it on Windows 7 64 bits Home Premium.
I install all the drivers and I haven't any problems.
When I want to connect it to my TV for first time, I discover there is no sound on the TV.
I try to go on the speaker (near the clock of windows), right click, sound, first tab (I think it is "Playback" in english... I have a french Windows) and my device (TV) doesn't appear.
I come back on Toshiba Support website to download the last driver "HDMI Audio driver" for my laptop, I connect the cable, and it appear in the sound properties. I select it as my default device and the sound come right from my TV.
    Great !
But when I restart my laptop (with or without the HDMI cable), the TV disappear from the list in the sound properties, the only one solution to recover the sound is to reinstall the HDMI Audio Driver.
If I start the driver installation with the "advanced" option, I have the list of drivers to install and I see all drivers are already installed, but the HDMI Audio Driver will be upgraded... I install it and it work until the next restart.
Could you explain me why the version of the driver don't stay on the system, and how to make it work without reinstall it everyday ?
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Stephane

    Anybody here ? :(

  • Cannot use ODD on my Satellite A30

Satellite A30 has lost it's d drive so can't use recovery disc's. Do I need to buy a new drive or is there software I can download to recover it?
    Many thanks

If you are 100% sure that drive is defective I recommend you to exchange it with new one. After doing this you can install your notebook without any problems.
As far as I know there is no any software that you can use to install OS without using ODD. Recovery image can not be downloaded.

  • Satellite C70D-A-11D Function Key deactivate after use

    Hi All,
I have an Satellite C70D-A-11D ... when I use once the FN Key to do a Print Screen or use the Screen-Zoom on the Space Key...
I am not able to use the Keynumbers 1 to 4 neither the space Key to enter a space between two words...it always change between the bigger screen solution or the normal solution...
I only can change the FN Key again after change the settings in Display settings and after a reboot...
So I cant use FN without a reset with the F1 to F12 Key use and a reboot...
Normaly the FN Key works only if it is pressed...if not the normal Function of the Keys 1 to 4 or F1 to F12 will work if configured in the settings, or not?
    What to do?
    Kind regards
    Jrgen

First of all you can change between the special function key mode (without pressing FN key) or normal (standard) mode (Hold Fn first to use standard F1-F12 functions.)
This function can be changed in BIOS.
In BIOS go to Advanced -> System configuration
    Check this option.

  • Satellite C70D asks me for my email and password

    Hi,
I am new to this forum and purchased a Satellite C70D yesterday.
I went thru set up, It asked me for my email and password.
I entered this and the next time I logged in there was my hotmail profile photo.
I entered my password - no problem. I changed the language from Spanish to English etc etc.
I switched it on this morning and got the Toshiba Logo - then it went to blank screen and there was a large data entry box asking me for a password. I tried the same one and I get another screen showing a red data entry box saying "VERIFY ERROR!! Please reenter to continue!!
    HELP!!
Can anyone help me please. I am operating windows 8.1
    Thanks
    Eric

You did not get any recovery disks because you have to create own recovery media using the preinstalled software called Toshiba Recovery Media Creator.
All details can be found in user manual.
Back to you issue: Are you able to boot the system?
The black screen and large entry box looks like the notebook asks for BIOS password.
Maybe Im wrong about this password but in case the BIOS password has been set and you dont know this password you will not be able to boot the system. In such case only Toshiba service engineer would be able to remove it.
However, if this isnt a BIOS password then you should be able to recover the notebook to factory settings using the Toshiba HDD recovery procedure.
Power up the unit, press F12 to get the boot menu.
Now the last option should be HDD recovery.
Now you can follow the HDD recover procedure as described here:

PowerBook G4 wont read external HD, Ipod, Printer, Shufflel - ahhhh, help?
Im not the whizziest on computers, other than lve tried a few things and nothing seems to work - lm open to any suggestions. Each external device makes sounds, which sounds like they are working fine, its just that all of a sudden, my mac wont read them?

Well, Bluetooth has nothing to do with USB. (Unless you confused a wireless USB mouse with a Bluetooth mouse. Bluetooth mice require no adapters with Bluetooth built-in to our PowerBook model. If you were using a special adapter that plugs into your USB port in order to make your mouse wireless, then that is a Wireless USB mouse... which means that your USB ports are functioning in a way, but more malfunctioning than operating correctly).
Here are two places that repair logic boards that I know of:
    1) http://macservice.com/powerbookg412.html
    ($495)
    2) http://www.techrestore.com/xcart/home.php?cat=252
(choose your speed service, then indicate what needs to be replaced,
and it will tell you what the costs will be)
    3) Apple Store Genius Bar
(make an appointment and have them diagnose it for "free" and let
them tell you what they think is wrong... BEFORE they take it in and
in turn, charge you for repairs. Usually a diagnosis at the Genius
Bar won't cost anything. If they take it in and pop it open to make
a full diagnosis, that's when the charge for labor comes in. The look-
over and pre-diagnosis is usually free... that way you can decide if
you want to repair, do something else like buy a new computer, etc.)
    Are you still in warranty?
I wish I could've helped you more. We've gone this far. Last thing. Does your FireWire port work? And what about the other ports, like mini DVI, sound out, etc.? Ethernet?
    (I'll be back later tonight).

Sorry. That's what the "D" option was according to the other manual I read on the internet. (I can't say it's name). If all else fails, that is the final step. A necessary repair of the logic board. (Odd that the Apple Hardware Test does not report any errors! It may not be necessarily logic board failure. That's why I recommend going to Apple... that is, if you have one near you. I have four close to me so I'm lucky. If you have the same luxury, get different opinions from each Apple Genius... trust me on that one).
