Odd Wireless Activity G5 iMac

Hey everyone,
I have noticed a few problems with my mac book pro and my imac. It's mainly to do with my wireless connection cutting me off and re-connecting. I'm not sure if anyone else has run into this problems but I am running a wireless network via a linksys router.
I know there have been conflict problems with other routers, just wondering if there are problems with mine, I have recently just changed the channel on the router to 11 as I read this could help but I wasn't sure so I did it anyhow.
Also while using windows on the imac my connection keeps disconnecting all together while using webcams and audio via msn. This may be the wrong forum for this but someone here might be able to answer both questions as I think they are related.
my imac also has the airport upgrade so it can pick up n based connections. I know this isn't really needed as the router i have only transmits at g but I had found on other macs it boosted the signal. The make of the router is a # BEFW11S4, not sure if anyone has an answer but its just a little annoying when your holding a meeting with someone and then the camera cuts off and the connection dies.
I did notice that once turning the mac off for 10 mins and turning it back on activated the connection again so i'm a little confused.

hi there
i have not gr8 ideas but only a few smal suggestions for you first of all try connecting your mac to the modem directly so you could isolate the issue if it is with the overall internet connection or the router
secondly check for interference(i.e; cordless phone)
guess this article might just be helpful for the above task
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58543
also try doing a power cycle meaning disconnect everything connected to the mac modem router and wait for atleast 3 mins or more and then test and see

DVD and CD sharing will not let you play or share DVD movies and audio CD's.  Does any one know of a way to get music from a CD on a MacBook Pro wirelessly to an iMac?

I cannot find the eMac install disk, and I haven't been able to get it to start up from my 10.3 CDRm (holding down option or c), though I read something somewhere about these not being able to start up from system folders earlier than those they shipped with. I've dealt with this sort of thing several times before, and it always seemed to work to simply use target disk mode.
It definitely won't start up fromt the 10.5 DVD-R, and I'm pretty sure I tried putting the MBP into TM to use its optical drive as well, but it didn't work. But it's worth trying again, and I appreciate your input greatly.

Yes, AUX in jack.  Radio shack may be required to make sure your connectors are compatible.  For example, you may need a standard RCA splitter to mini-RCA.  The mini-RCA (3.5mm) is for the airport express while the dual (red-black) for your AUX in.  Hard to say without seeing the connectors.
Itunes on Mac sends music to airport express (you select it in iTunes), the airport express sends the music out via the mini-RCA, your CD player auxillary input converts the RCA signal to sound.

  • Can't print wirelessly from my iMac

I have been runnning my printer for a year with a direct connection via wire successfully. Now that I was able to move my router closer ( it was on a different level of the house before too far to be picked up by the printer ) I want it to work with all my devices wirelessly ( iphone, ipad and macbook air ). I was able to connect the printer to the router but my devices dont recognize the printer.
    What do I do?

    Hi @printingmama,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you are unable to print wirelessly from your iMac running OS X 10.10 with your HP Photosmart 7525. I am happy to help you with this printing issue!
    Please see the following guides:
'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Does Not Print: Mac OS X. (I would follow the steps for OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion and OS X v10.9 Mavericks, as they will work on Mac OS X 10.10.)
Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection. (This will help you maintain the connection.)
The following tips can help prevent wireless connection issues:
Move the printer and the computer or access point (router) closer together.
Remove any metal objects between the printer and the computer or access point (router). Objects such as refrigerators or metal bookcases can interfere with wireless transmission.
Move any device that emits radio signals farther away from the printer. Devices such as microwaves and cordless telephones can interfere with wireless transmission.
Consult the router manufacturer for updates and configuration of your router.
Make sure that your computer is not connected through a VPN. You cannot access your printer on your wireless network while connected to a VPN.
Make sure the router is broadcasting at 2.4 ghz and not 5 ghz.

  • T61p Wireless Activity Light

I have a T61p and was having the worst time with my wireless networking.  I updated the wireless driver and the AC to the newest versions it the wireless seems to be stable again.  Woo Hoo..
However, the wireless activity light just below the display next to the bluetooth light, num lock, etc doesn't work anymore.  It won't turn on and off when I turn the wireless radio on and off and I can't see netework activity via that light anymore.  It's a minor annoyance but I sure would like it to work again.  Anyone know what I can do?
    Thanks in advance

I am using the Windows Airport Utility v5.6.1 (current version). There is an option to set the activity LED to flash or not.
As I said, the new Extreme will ignore requests from an AirPort Utility v5 version for a setting that is not present in the v6 AirPort Utility.
You may not be aware, but you should not be using a v5 version of AirPort Utility to try to administer the AirPort Extreme.
Please review the System Requirements for the AirPort Extreme from the specification page of the AirPort Extreme:
    Tech Specs
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
As you can easily see, a version 5.x of AirPort Utility does not meet the requirements for the new AirPort Extreme, so settings that are not present on the v6 of AirPort Utility will not be implemented on the new Extreme.

  • Odd synching activity

As issues go, this ranks pretty low (so far), but I thought I'd post it anyway and see what anyone else has encountered.
When I plugged the iPod in this evening, instead of updating the podcast and the two songs I'd added in the last week, it proceeded to update about 1200+ songs that were already on the iPod. These have been on the iPod and in the iTunes library for months with no change. To test it out, I disconnected the iPod, added a track to iTunes, and resynched - no problems, it updated the one song, and finis.
I have updated iTunes (to 5.0) since the last time I synched. Any connection? I may have changed the genre on a few (a dozen or two at most) tracks since the last synch, but certainly not that many (and I actually don't think I did).
Again - iPod and iTunes seem to working fine, so not a major issue, but I was curious.

So I figured out my own problem.
The odd drive activity was the CD drive, not the hard drive. I had a windows-burned cd in it, with no title. The system must have been wondering what it was, and thus looking at it every so often. I got rid of (most) of the screen delay by running the cleanup tasks through macJanitor. I had previously modified my crontab so they ran at much nicer times, and was unused to having to run them manually.
    Hope this helps someone,
    Trekkie

  • Odd wireless issue

I'm at my wit's end with this one. New iMac 20", 2.66GHz, OS X 10.5.6
Wireless never completely fails, but is often rendered completely useless. Here are some ping results:
    Good times
    --- 192.168.0.1 ping statistics ---
100 packets transmitted, 95 packets received, 5% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.390/19.466/207.115/39.920 ms
    Ok times
    --- 192.168.0.1 ping statistics ---
100 packets transmitted, 83 packets received, 17% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.695/306.478/3262.130/623.715 ms
    Bad times
    --- 192.168.0.1 ping statistics ---
100 packets transmitted, 49 packets received, 51% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 1.834/2047.424/11852.774/2674.610 ms
Good times are about 50% of up time, Ok times about 10% and Bad times the other 40%. There seems to be no correlation between time of day or other network traffic with these results. The pings above were taken when I was the only traffic on the network.
The kicker is that mine is the only computer affected. During times when my iMac is crapping the bed I can open my iBook and, on the same wireless network, load anything at proper speed.
Apple support has not been able to solve the issue. Sometimes a change will appear to work for a few minutes, or an hour or maybe even a day but these systems always return.
Here's what's been tried so far:
-Various DNS servers including open DNS
-Ever broadcast channel possible on my router
-Buying a new router ($) that broadcasts in N
    -Various security modes (WEP, WPA...)
    -Disallowing IPv6
-Changing the hardware service order in network preferences
This is getting ridiculous, but at the same time I'm hesitant to bring this is to a service center as it's quite likely for the wireless to run fine while there, serving only as a waste of time and energy.
Googling terms such as "Slow iMac wireless" brings up many similar cases, of which I've tried amost every solution, but I've yet to find one that works.
I know this one's a little odd, but any help would be greatly aprreciated.
    Thanks
    Nick

Are you trying to ping 192.168.0.1? Is that your router? That's what it looks like at first glance...
If that's the case, I'd say you have something interfering with the signal... Cordless phone, microwave oven, HAM radio... kind of hard to say. Are you absolutely positive that they're both connecting to the same wireless network? Neighbor doesn't have an open, identically named network that one of them is connecting to?
Have you tried changing the channel that the wireless LAN is on?

  • Add WPA password to HP Wireless printer on iMac

I have a new (3 months old) and a HP Wireless printer. I did not have security on my wireless network and everything worked fine. Today I added WPA Security and now my printer cant connect to the wireless network. I assume the printer needs the WPA password, but how do I add it?? I tried pushing buttons on the printer but cant find any feature where you can update the wireless network. Do I need to uninstall the printer and reinstall with the new settings? If so, how do I uninstall a printer on my new iMac?
    Thank you

Access the HP printers internal web setup, security settings can be modified there.

  • How to find SSID and Network Key to setup wireless printer to iMac?

It is easy to find your "SSID" and "Network Key" once you understand what you are looking for. Here is what worked for me when I setup a new wirless printer today:
    1) SSID = Your Network Name
    Ex. Jason's Wi-Fi Network
    Ex. Harry's Lounge
First way to find: on an iMac, go to the top bar on the right side and click on the "wireless symbol". You will see a list of all the wireless networks your computer is picking up. The one you are connected to (if you are able to surf the Internet) is the name you enter when asked for the SSID.
NOVICE HINT: This is the equivalent to walking into a Starbucks and logging onto their wi-fi via their "network name," which has the word Starbucks in it. Some network names will have have locks next to them, meaning they are "secured by a password" and some will not, meaning anyone can access this "free" wi-fi. This doesn't matter either way, it just helps with making sure you have located the list. Of course, it is also possible, if you live in a remote area, that only your network name will show up.
Second way to find: on an iMac, go to the apple symbol in the upper left corner of computer and make sure it says "finder" (if it doesn't, just click on your desktop and it will show up), then select:
go > applications > utilities > Airport Utility > double-click on the image of the AirPort Extreme and the network name will be listed
    2) Network Key = Password used to access your Wi-Fi Network
    Ex. BMXGuy456!
    Ex. Millionare$!!!
This is the password you created when you setup your wireless network, meaning it may not (and should not be for better security purposes) the same password as you use for your Apple ID, email etc.
NOVICE HINT: So if for example a friend came to stay with you and wanted to connect to your "secured wifi" meaning there is a lock next to it, you would give them this password.
    EXTRA INFO:
Why do I need this info anyway?
Because just like anyone who wants to use your wifi when they come over, the printer needs to understand what to connect to, therefore it basically needs the network name to know "WHAT" to connect to, and the "PASSWORD" in order to access that network.

After much stumbling around, I also discovered this answer. I picked up the 2270DW used, without disc or manual, so downloaded what I needed from the Brother site, but the Brother Mac OSX instructions feel as if they're written by a non-Mac user. I am on OSX 10.7.5, using an Airport wireless unit in Bridging mode (because I have to use a provider's router at the front end of my setup). But once I picked my Airport network name through the Brother Wireless Setup Utility and then typed my network name in the SSID box and my network password in the Network Key box ("es" --- I think the "network key - i.e. password" had to be confirmed a second time) after waiting for the utility to process the information, it worked like a charm.

  • How do I wirelessly connect my iMac to my Bravia TV?

I have a 27" iMac, an Airport Extreme, a Comcast router and a Bravia 46Hx750 Tv capable of wireless woopdedoddle.  Maybe I'm just too old, but I cannot firgure out how to get my TV to hook up to my wireless network (which I think I have).
My TV has displayed a WPA key which it wants me to tell the router and this really stumps me.  Help.  Is 91 too old to do this?

    Hello Valerie,
It sounds like you want to be able to see what you have on your computer screen, on your tv screen wirelessly.
This function is called Airplay Mirroring and is done through an AppleTV found here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/ipod/ipod-accessories/apple-tv
It is a device that attaches to your TV with an HDMI cable and when it is set up, will allow you to use the Airplay Mirroring function.
Here is more info about it and how to get that setup:

  • Wireless signal from iMac to TV?

I have a new 20" iMac G5 isight on the way and have a question. Has anyone tried to hook up the iMac (or other mac) wireless to your TV. There is products like this www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000068TYR
ref=erra_acc_dp1/026-6032989-4654855 that will send a signal from your antenna to your TV wirelessly. I thought mabye in combination with a TV tuner like EZ there would be a way to get the signal from the mac to the TV. That way I dont have to drill a cabel-hole in my livingroom floor down to my office to enjoy FrontRow on my TV. Or is there any other solutions/suggestions?
(And i dont think there will be an Airport Express A/V launched next week... though I wish!)

You should be able to connect your ATV directly to your iMac using Internet sharing, but you can't use the same NIC that the iMac is using for its connection. If your iMac is connected to your router by wi-fi, you can share the Ethernet port with the ATV. If your iMac is connected to your router by Ethernet cable, you can share your iMac's AirPort with the ATV.

  • How can I wirelessly mirror my iMac to 3 different displays?

I work at a school and they have digital picture frames set up on 3 floors that just run a slide show of images stored on the attached USB drives, but they are horrible quality and one just broke. I'm trying to find a solution that will allow me to replace these digital picture frames with monitors that can be placed on each floor and all be running the same slide show mirrored from one computer, wirelessly.
At first I thought maybe just get apple TV boxes and use airplay to mirror the iMac, but I there has to be a better way, designed specifically for that purpose.
    What is the best solution?

For schools , most technicians connect these TVs to a computer via DVI or VGA and create a video of the pictures.
If you were to do this you could setup a simple FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server on your main computer with the video stored on it. Then use each of the client computers (Ones connected to the TVs) to play the video on a loop and update the video every time you want new pictures.
This would be reletivly cheap to setup if there are any old computers that are not in use that have LAN access.
If each computer had WLAN , you could connect them all together with a cheap router.

  • Printing from wireless MacBook to iMac shared printer

I have an HP PSC 2350 connected to an iMac in my office. I am using my MacBook via a Linksys router, in another room, and would like to print to the PSC 2350. The iMac and printer are turned on - but the printer does not appear on the MacBook. Something simple, I'm sure - but I need a little help! Thanks!

I have had a similar issue. First I plugged the printer into my macbook and made sure I could print directly to the printer. After this worked, I tried printing via the wireless network. Things work with this caveat. When I print for the first time after starting up the macbook and select print from an application ( say MS Word,) I have to select 'add printer' under 'printer' in the dialogue box. It searches a little bit and then the shared printer shows up. After this is shows up as an available printer until I restart my computer.
