OEM Oracle10g Configuration

Hi,
I installed Oracle10g successfully, OEM worked fine. Then IP of my machine changed. This IP was a part
of the server (my PC) URL and hard coded in many places in the Oracle home related to OEM.
I tried to reconfigure OEM using EMCA utility. Everything was OK until the last point where
the OEM console was starting. According to the log and trace information it failed to connect
to HTTP server.
Here is the line from emdctl.trc repeated many times.
2004-04-21 16:19:59 Thread-1344 WARN http: snmehl_connect: connect failed to (cpe-66-27-144-244.socal.rr.com:1830): No connection could be made
because the target machine actively refused it. (error = 10061)
Does somebody know where to change the server information to fix it.
TIA,
Vladimir.

Here are the steps that i used to configure/re-config EM for a database.
--steps to configure
set oracle_sid=YourInstanceName
emca -repos recreate
emca -config dbcontrol db
--steps to reconfigure
set oracle_sid=YourInstanceName
emctl stop dbconsole
emca -deconfig dbcontrol db
emca -repos recreate
emca -config dbcontrol db
Hope this helps.

  • OEM Oracle10g / Oracle Databases = 9i

    Hello,
is it possible to manage the Oracle Databases previous versions : 7.3.4 and/or 8i, using OEM (from Ora10g or from Ora9i) ?
    Thank you to help me
    Robert

I know it is possible to use OEM 9i to manage an 8i database. OEM 9i is backward compatible with 8i database. If you need the full functionality of OEM 9i, then you might need to install the agent in a different home on the 8i instance server. Otherwise, you can live with the functionality provided by 8i agent.

Does OEM (from Ora10g or from Ora9i) make it possible to manage Oracle Databases previous versions : 7.3.4 and/or 8i ... ?

    Sorry for the mistake...
Thanks in advance for any of your reply.

I also went to OIDADMIN and changed the "portal" user pswd to the same schema pswd used above. However, now when logging in with the "portal" ID I'm getting the error above. Does anyone have any idea what this is and what I should do? THANKS!

  • New targets need to be added in OEM GRID

    Hi Gurus,
I have OEM grid configured and added four targets in that GRID.
    My question is,
    1. is it possible to add SUN application server to the OEM target?
    2. there are some middle ware utilities are running, I want the status of that utility/service. I mean if the service is down it must be notified. Is it possible to configure in OEM?
Please provide some light on this

I have OEM grid configured and added four targets in that GRID.
    My question is,
    1. is it possible to add SUN application server to the OEM target?OEM supports IBM WebSphere Application Server, JBoss Application Server and Apache Tomcat. I am not sure about SUN application server.
To get complete list of targets supprted and plugin required , please check :
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oem/extensions/index.html
    2. there are some middle ware utilities are running, I want the status of that utility/service. I mean if the service is down it must be notified. Is it possible to configure in OEM?
If plugin is available for that middleware then you can configure notification rule for that .
Otherwise you can create an OS script and call it in OEM . You can also configure an alert for that.

  • OEM Reporting Cluster in Broken State

I received a couple of errors in OEM the other day and they don't clear out. The cluster seems to be fine but I have the following collection errors in OEM:
Target is in broken state. Reason - Compute dynamic property takes too long
    Anyone seen this?

Hi, did you resolve your issues? I have simmilar problems with a cluster. It's actually not too bad under these circumstances that OEM timed out while configuring the cluster. If OEM has configured the cluster it will do regular checks which leads to several crs_stat.bin processes consuming lots of ressources. I have seen very high load just from the cluster tools. I shut down the nodeapps and still had about the same CPU usage. Commands like olsnodes, crs_*, srvctl all take a long time to finish.
I have played a few times with OEM to configure the cluster in OEM. I wanted it to fail for both nodes so I don't get the check from the agent until I resolve the underlying problem that caused the error while discovering the cluster. Now that it timed out with "Compute dynamic property takes too long" on both nodes I see dratically reduced load. But OEM is not the problem, it just has these issues, because it depends on the cluster commands.
I have spent some time investigating the problem. It seems to be an issue with OCR:
    $ cluvfy comp ocr
    Verifying OCR integrity
    Checking OCR integrity...
Checking the absence of a non-clustered configuration...
    ERROR:
CSS is probably working with a non-clustered, local-only configuration on all the nodes.
    Verification cannot proceed.
    OCR integrity check failed.
Verification of OCR integrity was unsuccessful on all the nodes.
I cannot find much on this error on Metalink.
    Doc B14202-04 tells me:
CSS is probably working with a non-clustered, local-only configuration on
    nodes:
Cause: OCR configuration error. The error message specifies the nodes on
    which this error is found.
This error occurs when, for each specified node, either the contents of the
OCR configuration file ocr.loc cannot be retrieved, or the configuration key
local_only is set to TRUE in the configuration file of nodes listed in the
    error message.
Action: Confirm that Oracle Clusterware was installed on the node. Correct
the OCR configuration, if it is incorrect. Also, ensure that you have typed the
node name correctly when entering the CVU command.
I now know that something with my OCR is not ok, but:
    1. Clusterware is installed
    2. How do I identify and correct the error with OCR?
    3. /var/opt/oracle/ocr.loc is present. Both OCR raw devices are listed. The
    last line is local_only=false
We have Version 10.2.0.2 wich has been installed by upgrading an existing 10.1.0.5 installation to 10.2.0.1 as per the 10gR2 Clusterware Installation guide and then the 10.2.0.2 patch.
    Best regards,
    Daniel

  • Check OEM Instance

    Hello All,
Can anyone please let me know how can we check in a UNIX shell command that whether OEM is configured for a Oracle database instance for a particular server or not.
    Your Suggestions will be helpful.
    Thanks

You probably could parse the $OH/sysman/emd/targets.xml file. Where the $OH is the home of the intelligent agent on that server.
Don't ask me how to parse the file. That's a question for another forum. :)

  • Email notifications and load balancing

We are load balancing 2 OMS's. The problem is email notifications have embedded links that have the OMS that sent the notification instead of the virtual hostname set-up for the load balancer. The OMS's have been set-up to use the load balancer per the OEM Advanced Configuration and from an agent/Web console perspective, everything is working fine and using the load balanced hostname. Does anyone know where to modify the email notifications so the links point to the load balanced URL rather then the individual OMS host that sent the notification?

Thanks, but I was actually asking about the links that OEM has in the email content sent out as part of a notification. (So you can click the link in the notification and it takes you to the appropriate spot in the Grid console). I've since heard from Oracle support that modifying these embedded links to use the load balanced hostname (rather than the individual OMS hostname) is not possible and is something they say they're working on for 11g.

    what's confusing?
In short, this is what you need to do:
-> Prepare the download script (Modify OMS Host and OMS Port)
After configuring move this to Target host.
-> Make sure you have agent_download.rsp
If you do not have this file, mv agent_download.rsp.bck to agent_download.rsp
-> configure wget, check with your system admin to configure this for you.
make sure you have it under path, verify using "which wget"
Once all this is done, execute agentdownload on the target host.
    ./agentDownload.sloaris_x64
Check documentation for options for this.
However, I don't see the agentDownload file anywhere in what I unzipped.
solaris_x64/agent/installYou should have a file with the name agentDownload.solaris_x64 under solaris_x64
You don't have to download this, you should have this already under $OMS_HOME/sysman/agent_download/version

  • RCA for Oracle RAC Performance Issue

    Hi DBAs,
I have setup a 2 node Oracle RAC 10.2.0.3 on Linux 4.5 (64 bit) with 16 GB memory and 4 dual core CPUs each. The database is serving a web application but unfortunately the system is at its knees. The performance is terrible. The storage is a EMC SAN but ASM is not implemented with a fear to further degrade the performance or not to complicate the system further.
I am seeking the expert advises from some GURUs from this forums to formulate the action plan to do the root cause analysis to the system and database. Please advise me what tools I can use to gather the information about the Root Cause. AWR Report is not very helpful. The system stats with top, vmstat, iostat only show the high resource usage but difficult to find the reason. OEM has configured and very frequently report all kind of high wait events.
How I can use effectively find Network bottle necks (netstat command which need to be really helpful to understand).
How I can see the system I/O (iostats) which can provide me some useful information. I don't understand what sould be the baseline or optimal values to compare the I/O activities.
I am seeking help and advised to diagnose the issue. I also want to represent this issue as a case study.
    Thanks
    -Samar-

First of all, RAC is mainly suited for OLTP applications.
Secondly, if your application is unscalable (it doesn't use bind variables and no SQL statements have been tuned and/or it has been ported from Sukkelserver 200<whatever>) running it against RAC will make things worse.
Thirdly: RAC uses a chatty Interconnect. If you didn't configure the Interconnect properly,and/or are using slow Network cards (1 Gb is mandatory), and/or you are not using a 9k MTU on your 1 Gb NIC, this again will make things worse.
You can't install RAC 'out of the box'. It won't perform! PERIOD.
Fourthly: you might suffer from your 'application' connecting and disconnecting for every individual SQL statement and/or commit every individual INSERT or UPDATE.
    You need to address this.
Using ADDM and/or AWR is compulsory for analysing the problem, and/or having read Cary Millsaps book on Optimizing Oracle performance is compulsory.
You won't come anywhere without AWR and OS statistics will not provide any clue.
Because, paraphrasing William Jefferson Clinton, former president of the US of A:
    It's the application, stupid.
99 out of 100 cases. Trust me. All developers I know currently are 100 percent clueless.
That said, if you can't be bothered to post the top 5 AWR events, and you aren't up to using AWR reports, maybe you should hire a consultant who can.

Another OTN thread on this topic:
    http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jsp?id=988554
The middle of that thread (read the beginning to get the full context) has an answer relevant to your question here.
    ------ begin quoted --------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hello,
JDeveloper 9.0.2 is limited in this area unfortunately. For the use case you are describing, there are two work-arounds:
    1) Use an Ant build file (or any other script) as you mentioned.
    2) Do your testing in the embedded OC4J server instead of an external OC4J server. You should then be able to make manual changes to the orion-application.xml file used by the embedded server -- it's in the Workspace directory and has a name like "Workspace1-oc4j-app.xml".
We were expecting users to use Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) to configure production J2EE applications, since JDeveloper is a development tool whereas OEM is the real server administration tool. For some time, we've debated internally on the JDev team whether that kind of feature separation across Oracle products makes sense. It's clear that developers like you need to perform some administration tasks in the course of testing a production app, so we focused on allowing that for JDeveloper's integrated OC4J server ("embedded OC4J") and left the administration of an external OC4J server to OEM.
For future JDeveloper releases, we will probably have an increasing level of direct support for OC4J administration, but to what extent we will pursue that is still in discussion.
For 9.0.3, I've filed bug 2392697 to track the issue you are reporting (with reference to this OTN thread) to make sure that it is resolved properly for the 9.0.3 release.
