# of open pages in Safari

The # of open pages used to appear next to my web browser. I no longer have that functionality. How do I regain?

Safari on iOS 5 uses tabbed browsing and not the thumbnail/page browsing as on previous versions, and you can't change it back - if you want the option of tabbed or thumbnails then you could try leaving feedback for Apple and maybe in a future iOS release it'll happen : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • Keep getting "unable to open page" in safari any ideas how to stop this?

I keep getting "unable to open page" in Safari it's most annoying! Can anyone help please.

    i haven't done anything in console. i don't really
    understand that part of computing.
Console is not something you do anything in, it records what is going , where it logs errors, crashes et.. and where troubleshooting can start from.
I mentioned Looking to see if you had errors logged.
i can access any other site just fine.
The problem, again is Not with Safari or other Browsers, if other sites are fine.
i could understand that it may be the site if i
wasn't able to connect to it from other sources. the
computer are surely online or i would not be posting.
    1) I would not be able to know which computer you are posting from.
    2) Again I can connect to the site and browse, does not mean there is not something wrong with it.My console produce errors as I have mentioned.
also i just got off the phone with Apple Care tech
support. it seems that because i can access other
sites this is not an issue they will support. so,
That is is because the issue us NOT with Safari , rather your ISP, or your Network Settings.
that means that my problem as well as all similar
problems on this board will not get the attention
Apple Discussion is a User to User Forum, folks that reply to you
are not Apple employees, we all give the help we can & plenty of it.
they deserve. i love apple and this really was quite
a slap in the face. i'm still sorta in shock.
    Good Luck.

  • I am having problems opening pages in safari. the rotating wheel at the right end of the address window doesn't stop even after the page has filled up. then if i try to open other pages it gets stuck and won't open them.

I started having problems opening pages today. When first open a page it seems to download the page OK, but the rotating wheel on the right-hand end of the address field keeps rotating after the page is completely filled up. Then if I try to open other pages it becomes slower and eventually stops filling-in the pages, while the rotating wheel keeps rotating.
I wonder whether junk is being downloaded into my mac, or what is going on. Help will be geatly appreciated.

When was the last time you emptied the Safari cache?
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
If that didn't make a difference, go back to the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes then click Reset.
And how much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space. Freeing Up Hard Disk Space - Mac Guides
If emptying cache or resetting didn't help and there's enough free space on the startup disk, login to another user account, launch Safari. Same problems there indicates a system wide problem. Log back into your admin account so you can check the startup disk.
    Launch Disk Utility. /Applications/Utilities
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
I wonder whether junk is being downloaded into my mac
Nothing should "download" to your Mac unless you initiate the download yourself. You can check the Downloads folder from the Safari > Window menu or your Downloads folder in the Finder.

  • My 3G cannot open page in safari because the address is invalid

I have had to reset my 3G iPhone and it is saying that it cannot open page because the address is invalid in Safari.  Can someone guide me through how to fix this situation?
    Thank you

Thanks kiltedtim, that was really helpful. Why didn't I think of that?? But funny enough despite the error message it still loads the page because the address is CORRECT. But it means acknowledging an unnecessary error message for every page you visit! Useful answers please...

  • I have the ipad2 with the latest Os upgrade.  On certain websites, I get the following error message: cannot open page. Safari cannot open the page because the network connection was lost. I have rebooted, turned off wifi and reset the password.

This is happening to only certain websites.  Unfortunately, the work ones that I need to access.  I appreciate any help.
    Error message:
    Cannot open page
Safari cannot open the page because the network connection was lost
I reset the wifi and the password, I also rebooted several times.

Do you have any other browsers on your iPad? If you don't have one, why don't you try downloading one of these free browsers - they will all be "lite" versions (not full featured)  - but if you can access these websites with one of those - then I assume that we can point to Safari as being the culprit. That will not solve the Safari problem, but it will give us another point from which to work.

I have Mercury, iCab Mobile, Opera, Dolphin and Atomic. iCab Mobile - the paid version is great.
BTW ... have you tried to access these sites from another WiFi connection - like a library, a friend's house - any other WiFi network?

  • Unable to open pages on Safari 4!

I can't get Safari to work... It won't open any pages, I went to preferences & changed it to accept cookies but still won't open anything. I've tried Google, Yahoo, Facebook ect... I always get this message: "Safari can’t open the page because the server where this page is located isn’t responding."
I've deleted the cache, re-installed it twice, restarted the computer... Still no luck! Any idea what's going on?
I'm running Safari 4 on Windows Vista Home Premium. My other browsers work (Safari/Avant) so it's not my internet.

IE on my computer is all messed up, it doesn't work & when you try to close it off it tells you it saved a tab & has Chinese symbols... Have to use task manager to close it off.
... I've seen reports of that on the web. Sometimes it seems to show up only in a single user account on a PC.
I'm beginning to think that there might be some issue about the network/internet settings on your current user account that is bollixing up all your browsers (except Firefox). Let's check to see if all the connection/display issues are confined to a single user account.
    1. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
    2. Open Add or remove user accounts (If using the Classic View in Windows Vista, open User Accounts. Then open Manage another account).
    3. Select Create a new account and follow the instructions to complete the account setup process. Give the new account full administrative rights
    4. Once the new account is created, choose Log Off from the Start menu. (Do not use Fast User Switching to get into the new account.)
    5. Log into the newly created user account.
Do any of IE, Chrome, Avant or Safari work any better in the new user account?

  • Problem with WiFi while traveling - connects to Hotspot, but cannot open page in Safari

Local (hotel) hotspot requires login - fine, have account.  But Safari only takes me to login page sometimes, other times simply gives "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding."  Server has not stopped responding, e.g. I can reach it with a laptop.  Problem is Safari refuses to give up on stale connection, start over.  Same problem with iPad.  Same problem with Google browser (different verbiage).  Have tried turning off, on WiFi,  rebooting device.  Any tips on how to get Safari to let go and start over so it gets to local login page?

Found this on another discussion: go to your setting - general - reset - reset network setting
This is a brutal step, should be completely unnecessary, but it seems to work.
Apple needs to fix this - obviously from other discussions, many people are encountering similar problems.

  • Can't open page on safari

This page works GREAT on OPERA 8, but I can't see it on SAFARI 2... C'mon Apple developers, where is the Safari update?? Will we wait until "Leopard" ???
    http://www.kylie.com/

There is no guarantees that anyone from Apple will read your post in this user-to-user discussion forum. Also, Safari is built to strictly render pages written to the accepted html/xhtml standards and is not very forgiving of bad, incorrect, or non-standard coding. It is up to web developers to write to standards; it is not up to Apple to make Safari work with every web site.
The site works in Firefox 1.5rc3. Except for three things, I like the site very much. What I don't like are sites that load automatically playing music, especially at the volume your site loads. I also don't like the lack of options to turn the sound off or lowering the volume. I also tend to not like sites that take over my screen by automatically resizing windows. I do see, though, that there are media controls once you get on the main page.
The intro page loads in Safari. Interestingly, the volume is much lower when this page loads in Safari than when I loaded it in Firefox, and is, therefore, much less annoying. The site will not go past the intro, either by letting the intro run through or by clicking on the Skip Intro link.

Please enable guest logins and log in as Guest. Launch Safari and test. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and disable it if you wish.

  • Safari can't open page as server not responding

I have a 2 iPhone 5s n 1 iPad Air sharing the home router with a few other computers at home. The iPhone and ipad always have problem opening page using safari. Same thing for browsing video using YouTube app. It's just not responding. Other applications such as whatsapp facebook work fine though. Even chrome application works too. Just not safari and YouTube so far. I have tried resetting network setting, clear history and cookies. It didn't work. It should not be the router issue as other application works. Can anyone help me with this? It's very annoying.

Depending on the server software used for the downloads it may be using up all of your bandwidth leaving little for Safari.
Use the Safari Activity window to see how the page elements load while your download is occurring.
If you see "timed out" messages then you're going to have troubles.

  • HAVE NEW 13.3 MAC AIR AND when using it to open sites in safari I have no issue until I go to a link page that is a pdf file or I am trying to save the screen info as a pdf. I only get a black screen with no data, cannot find solution in help menu

when i open sites in safari the page opens fine if it is not a pdf based page.
Once i open a site that has a link to another page that is a pdf based page the page comes up as a black screen with no info showing
If I open a site that gices me an open to save a file to a word, excel type document or a pdf , everything works fine until I try to save the information to a PDF and again the screen goes black
I have tried the safari help site but to no avail, does anyone have a solution to thid problem. (I do have the abode ofr mac program loaded)

If you delete all the Adobe Reader stuff it will probably fix this. For almost everything, the Apple pdf handling works better.

  • Can not open any web page in Safari

can not open any web page in Safari on the IPad.  All other wireless features work fine.

If this does not work then try a reset ,
Reset your iPad by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPad  will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
Good luck and do report back.
