Office 2004 and Tiger 10.4.6 autoupdate issue

Anyone who is using autoupdate in Microsoft Office:
After installing office 2004 on a Powerbook G4 running 10.4.6 (updated from 10.4.5), I ran the autoupdate function in office, it pulled in autoupdater 1.1.2. After running update again, I get "The Application "Mircosoft AutoUpdate.app" cannot be launched.
-10661
Can anyone who has 10.4.6 installed try the autoupdate function in Office 2004 and see if it works?
any ideas?

Hold off on the 11.2.3 update. It is being said that it is seriously flawed. My own experience is that I wished I never did it. Entourage is close to completely unusable with no way to revert since the update alters the database.
Other problems with the other apps are being reported also.
Beware.
Just went to open Entourage and it says that my database is corrupt and I can not use it. That's just "F"ing great. I have had more database issues since updating. DON'T DO IT!

  • Iv'e upgraded my iMac to 10.6.8 and now microsoft office 2004 and my canon powershot camera software will not work. any suggestions?

I just upgraded my iMac to 10.6.8. Now my Microsoft office applications,(word, excel, ppt) and my camera software to transfer picts from my camera will not launch. (Separate apps but all stopped working as soon as I upgraded from 10.5.8). The software for the Canon Powershot is Ver.37.2. Image browser 6.2 EOS utility 1.1.  Any help would be appreciated.
Also if you could tell me what happens to the individual jpegs that get imported through iPhoto, I would go back to using that instead of the Canon software. I want to be able to go into a folder and see all the jpegs and not have to rely on iPhoto's one enormous file. What happens if that iPhoto file gets corrupt? Thanks, Leesha

Actually, Microsoft Office 2004 works fine with Snow Lepoard OS 10.6.x. However, it does require Rosetta, Apple's app for Classic apps. In your upgrade from Lepoard 10.5.8, Rosetta may not have installed but you can manually install it with the instructions here.
On another note, when upgrading the OS, some anomalies get resolved by repairing disk permissions with Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
One more note, there was an issue with Rosetta crashing with OS 10.6.8 in February 2012. Apple released a security update that fixed it. You can see if Software Update (launch from the Apple menu) shows it or manually download Security Update 2012-001 v1.1 and install it. Software Update will also show other applicable apps available for updating for your upgraded system.
Rosetta is no longer available with OS 10.7 Lion and beyond. Then you will need to upgrade MS Office 2011 for Mac.

Can I install Microsoft Office 2004 onto my new Macbook Pro OSX 10.8.2?

Nope. That truly ancient product only runs on the ancient PowerPC Mac PowerBooks. You need Office 2008 or 2011. Microsoft is offering to sell you Office 2011 and give you a rain check for when the newer version comes out:  http://www.microsoft.com/mac

Since the issue you're having is not related to any Apple products, I suggest you post your question on MIcrosoft's own forums for their Mac version of Office as they're more focused on the issue you're having then an Apple forum, as Apple discussions only provide support for Apple products Plus there's Microsoft appointed "MVPs" there to assist:

  • Office 2004 and other Photoshop will not Load

Part #1 - I have Office 2004/Student Teacher Edition. It has 3 liscences. I am installing this program on my new 17inch iMac. However, when I click on Setup Assistant, you can see it load up in the dock and then it never opens. Then I try drag the files to my application and it does drag them, but then when you click on a program such as "Word", it starts to load up (shows up in the dock) then shuts down with no error message. Any clue?
Part #2 - I just also installed Photoshop CS2 and it installed fine...however when I go to open it in my applications folder it does the same thing that Word does...starts to load up shows up in the dock then Shuts Down with any error message.
Does anyone have a clue what the heck this is?
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Hi Queso!
"1. I recently repaired disk permissions, which took an abnormally lengthy amount of time -- but the computer rebooted without any problems"
There is usually no need to restart the Mac after running Repair Permissions.
Unless you ran it while started up from the install disc.
Or are you referring to running Repair Disk?
Regardless, run Repair Disk & Repair Permissions now, instructions below, and post the results.
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu, on the Menubar at the top of the screen.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
8.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
9.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
10.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP until the only messages reported, are listed here Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.3.x, authored by Michael Conniff
When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".
    Good Luck!

    Welcome to Apple Support Discussions.
I'm not using either but so far I haven't seen any issues with this forum on either on 10.6.5. You can also cross post to the Snow Leopard Installation and Setup forum at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1337
Finally I'd recommend posting to MS Office for Mac Forum located at:

I'm sure Adobe has similar forums however I'm not an Adobe customer so I can't recommend a forum, but I'm sure you can locate one at Adobe's web site.

  • Uninstall Office 2004 and keep license

I purchased my 17"MBP about 2 weeks ago along with Office 2004. When I received the MBP and 3 days later learned of the upgrade I contacted Apple and arranged for the return so I could order the new product. I had already installed Office and used one of the 3 licenses on the back. My question is how to retrieve the license since I reformatted the MBP prior to sending it back although I already registered the license with microsoft. Apple customer support had no idea as to what I should do. I realize I have two more licenses left but I purchased 3 and have not used them yet. Any thoughts?

    Hello,
You should not have to worry. All of your licenses should be available. Just try re-installing using the same code you used for the previous installation.

For future reference, you can get excellent support in the Microsoft News-groups. Microsoft's techs actually monitor that group and respond with help. Obviously, we try to help when we can here in the Apple Discussions. But, you'll find the Microsoft people to be better educated on Microsoft issues.

  • Microsoft Office 2004 and Leopard

Does anyone know if Microsoft Office 2004 will work fine on Leopard? I am currently in the process of upgrading from Panther (10.3.9) to Leopard.

MicroSoft says requirements are 10.2.8 or later, so according to their site, it will work. It shows 10.4.9 or later for Office 2008.
Hopefully someone using Leopard and Office 2004 will post so you will know for sure.

  • Batch Processing .doc 2 .pdf with Acrobat 8 Pro and Office 2004 on Tiger

I have been through the forum posts and for each relavent thread there is the easy batch process that can be done to solve this issue - however, the major flaw I have is (as seen in the attachment) no option to be able to open Word docs. How do I enable Acrobat Pro to be able to open word docs??!?!? It really is an answer I have not been able to find on the web anywhere!

Then what do you make of this persons post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1098036#1098036
"Create a new batch sequence. Select 'Run commands on Selected Folder'. In the source file options enable 'Microsoft Office Word'. Then let run the sequence."
I am able to work out the whole process except in my Acrobat there is no option for "Microsoft Word" as Bernd suggests - how do I get it on the list.

  • Problems with MS Office 2007 and Tiger Server

I have an Xserve hosting file services for Macs and PCs. There is a RAID attached to the Xserve storing user data and ACLs are enabled. Since installing Office 2007 on the PCs there's been the following problem which can be replicated -
When saving an Excel or Word document back in the 2007 suite to the Xserve, the user will be unable to save the document if it is saved back for the third time. In Excel 'Unable to save document is reported'. In Word the document can't be saved due to a network error or a file permision problem being reported.
The above is true for existing documents created in Excel or Word 2003, then saved in 2007 versions, which are on the Server, or for documents created using Excel or Word 2007.
Users are logging on with different user accounts. They first log on to a Windows domain hosted by a Small Business Server then a drive has been mapped on their PC, to give thme access to the Xserve.
As I said things were OK until Office 2007 was installed on the PCs.

I'm having the same issue, allowing guest access on the share did change the logs I'm getting in Samba. Earlier on it was giving errors on the inability of guest access to the share.

  • Application Launch Failure when starting Office 2004 and Adobe Photoshop

I've had my powerbook G4 for 3 months now with no problems what so ever, but recently my word, exel, powerpoint applications and even adobe photoshop cs give me a:

Hi, miek. Welcome to the Discussions.
Here is some general advice on troubleshooting shared library errors.
A shared library error, in general terms, implies a missing, corrupted, or incompatible application or operating system framework. Details on frameworks and shared libraries (heavy technical reading) can be found in the "Frameworks" section of the "Software Development Overview" chapter of the Apple Developer Connection document Mac OS X Technology Overview, and the Framework Programming Guide.
Causes for shared library errors include:
    • The affected application has been corrupted and must be reinstalled.
    • Running incompatible versions of two applications with interdependent shared libraries.
    • Disk or permission corruption.
    • Corrupted operating system installation.
    To resolve shared library errors:
    1. As a start, perform a general checkup by running the procedure specified in my Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption FAQ.
    2. If the problem persists and only one application is affected, uninstall, then reinstall the affected application. See my "Uninstalling applications" FAQ for important advice on uninstalling software.
    3. If the problem persists, multiple applications are affected, or the shared library in question is part of the operating system, then reinstall Mac OS X using the Archive and Install process. See my "General advice on performing an Archive and Install" FAQ.
    Good luck!

  • Migration manager with Adobe CS2 and Microsoft Office 2004

I had already downloaded my academic copy of office 2008 as soon as I opened the computer. To my total aggravation, it too had the stupid ribbon format that office 2007 has on the pc version. Then to my total surprise when I used the migration manager, it moved all my old programs over from my macbook running 10.4.11. This included office 2004. It seems to operate just fine, but am worried about when I end up opening documents from an email or something that it will end up opening in 2008 instead. Also, when it moved my Adobe CS2 it said some type of error message about color matching. That seems to be the case in the color sliders at least, the colors don't look right, but the images seem fine when they open. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks!

am worried about when I end up opening documents from an email or something that it will end up opening in 2008 instead.
Find a document you would normally open with Office 2004, and use the menu in the Finder to 'Get Info'.
In that window, you have an option to dictate which program to always open that file type with, and to apply that choice to all similar files.
Make the change and close that window.
