Office 2008 for Mac - Home and Student Edition - English Version

Hi, i just had a pretty straightforward question, is the version i have referred to above the Equivalent of the 2004 Student/Teacher version? They are similar release prices so i'm guessing they are but they have different names. Thanks.

Actually the opposite is true. Office 2004 runs in Rosetta and the new version is Universal. Rosetta is Apple way of allowing older software that was developed before they (Apple) switched processors from the PPC architecture to Intel. That was a fairly significant switch and it needed someway to work on Intel processors even though it was never intended to work on them. Enter Rosetta. It works fairly well and I'm using Microsoft Office 2004 on both my iMac and MacBook and don't ever experience any fans ramping up or excessive CPU usage. You might try reinstalling it.
However that's not to say it's perfect and the new version is Universal which means it can run on either PPC or Intel processors (without using Rosetta to help it do so) which will enhance you experience.

  • Using ms office 2008 for mac home & student edition with snow leopard serv

    Hi all,
I have a very particular question.
I have a new small business starting up and we want to make full use of leopard and snow leopard server in our infrastructure. We also want to use os x for all our client machines.
We want to use ms office 2008 for mac as our main offfice software but i believe we don't need all the uses or festures of the business edtion and i need to seek good advice and clarity on this.
We won't ever use any microsoft exchange servers but instead willl use the apple mail servers and all the other apple server services.
My question is, based on the fact that we will have an all apple mac os x backend and client frontend but want to use the ms office for mac as our business software, and also based on the fact that we wont use the "Build your Brand clip art, Build your skills by lynda.com, the Remote Desktop for mac 2, the Microsoft Exchange Server Support and the Microsoft Windows sharepoint services support, do we really need to go for the business edition? Can we not just use the home and student edition and get the same functionality using everything else apart form what we listed as we wont need these?
The other question is, the Entourage 2008, Web services Edition, will this work with an apple backend instead of ms exchange server?
Kind regards and thanks for your wise advice,
    Neil Watson

    Thanks, Kurt--I understand now.
One reason I was alarmed was that evidently when the tech installed Office 2008, something went awry with either the key installer or the key code, because when I finished the first two updates (12.1 and 12.2), I tried to open Entourage to see if the problem I'd been having was resolved. Instead of opening, Office gave me a message that my product key was invalid!  I did find the product key, and called the tech, who will come by to see what's wrong (he's an honest guy, so I'm sure it's a legitimate error of some kind, not a pirated copy). But the thought of installing two pages of updates and maybe running into the same glitch every time made me blanch.  So I'm glad to know that Microsoft is still doing Service Packs for 2008!

  • Microsoft office for mac home and student 2011

I bought Microsoft Office package in Italy and all  programs are on Italian.I am not Italian i understand English or Russian,so  can i change language of this programs ?? and how ? please help me
    p.s  i have macbook air 13 (i have already installed programes ))

I think MS Office only comes in one language at a time, so you have to acquire a separate version in the language you want.
Also you can search/ask in the forums dedicated to those products:

  • Office 2008 for Mac: Any advice on where to get it cheaper for a student?

I am about to go into my Master's Degree at Dallas Theological Seminary and I need to get Office 2008 for Mac. The Apple store recommended me get it at my school but my school's bookstore does not have it and journeyed.com doesn't support DTS. Does anyone know how or where I can get this program for less than $100 with a student discount? I really need to know.

Also, be aware that this is a forum for troubleshooting compatibility issues between Mac OS and Windows, and that Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products are the best place to post Office related questions. Good luck...

  • Reusing a license of Office 2010 Home and Student edition

I installed all three licenses of Office 2010 Home and Student edition on my wife's and daughters laptops.  Last weekend, we had to buy my daughter a new laptop for college.  How do I uninstall the license from her current laptop and install

    Hi,
Try to activate it by phone. I suggest you contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support, telephone (800) MICROSOFT (642-7676).
    In Canada, call (877)568-2495.
Microsoft Customer Service hours of operation:
Monday through Friday, 5:00 AM - 9:00 PM Pacific Time
Saturday and Sunday, 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM Pacific Time
I also want to re-assign one of three licences for this version of Office, but I went to the Support website, which prompted for the product ID and indicated that the "free support"period had expired.  Can the reassignment be organised at the time of
activating on the new computer by phone?  Would a person be speaking with a human if doing a phone activation?  Will there be a charge and what's it likely to cost?
I also have a suggestion for Microsoft: a de-activation routine that would enable the licence transfer process without the need for human support.

I was getting support for my Office 2008 for Mac, and the support tech said my OS was very slow. I have latest update for Snow10.6.7. Question; How can I speed up my Macbook?

    Hi
In the first instance, I'd use Onyx and run through its sequence of maintenance and tune up tools:
    Verify, Maintenance, Cleaning.
I'd also reset the SMC and PRAM (Google them)
If that doesn't help then I'd look at System Preferences.. > Accounts > Login Items tab (not Login Options).  Check what processes get started at login and decide which ones you don't want.
After that I'd use Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor to see if any processes are using a lot of computer power or if anything else nasty might be happening.
If none of this helped then my final step would be to reinstall OS X.

  • I Have office for mac home and business 2011, can you install on both users on one iMac?

I Have office for mac home and business 2011, can you install on both users on one iMac?

That's often a permissions problem. Try launching Disk Utility and running the Repair Permissions. That may fix the problem. Also confirm that the Office 2011 folder is in the Applications folder at the root of the hard drive, not a folder within your wife's Home folder.
If that doesn't help. post back with further details; your version of Mac OS X, whether you installed Office via a user account with admin privileges or not, and what happens when you try and launch Office from your account including error messages if any.
    Hope this helps.

  • Office 2008 for Mac and hyperlinks

I am shortly to get a Macbook Pro. In my work I use a large table of jobs - a Word document - representing reports and each named job is a hyperlink to the job itself; this is in Word for Windows and works seamlessly for Office 2003 and Office 2007. The hyperlink can be to another Word document, a TIF file and probably a range of other file types.
In Office 2008 for Mac will I be able to do the same thing? Indeed, will I be able to import the same Word document to Office 2008, use the hyperlinks, add to the jobs and the hyperlinks, and then export it back to Word for Windows and have all the hyperlinks still work?
    Leon

This is a Leopard Installation and Setup forum. I suspect you will find that your files will work fine, but why don't you ask a Microsoft forum to be sure? Microsoft supports their Mac Office users.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    You have two options:
    1. If you have another Mac or PC, use Remote Disc to install it on your Mac > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5287
    2. Buy an external optical drive and use it to install Microsoft Office.
Both options work correctly. If you are going to use the optical drive once, use Remote Disc, but it will be much slower than using an optical drive connected to the computer

  • IWork on iPad & Office 2008 for Mac

    Hi everyone,
I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but are the iWork apps on the iPad capable of exporting documents to the Mac in a format that is readable by Office 2008 for Mac (i.e. .doc, docx, etc) or is it only iWork 09 on the Mac that is capable of opening documents created by these apps ?
    Thanks,

Actually the responses here are not correct. Steve Jobs specifically said to Walt Mossberg that he could type a document in Pages on the iPad and then send it from the same device in Word format. The iWork apps on the iPad are going to be able to both read and export to their MS Office equivalents.
To hear Jobs state this in regard to Word, go to http://kara.allthingsd.com/20100128/boomtowns-apple-ipad-day-starring-walt-mossb erg-plus-a-steve-jobs-cameo/ and look for his comments at around the 3:25 mark in the video.

  • Safari Keychain error after installing Office 2008 for Macs

I installed Office 2008 for Macs this morning. It then checked for updates to download, found a couple of big ones, and they were downloaded.
Since then, when in Safari, I keep getting a message saying something like "A keychain cannot be found for Safari" with 2 options: Cancel or Return to Default. Neither one changes anything.
I use only web-based email (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo) so this is a major annoyance for me.
From Office 2008 for Macs, I really only need to use Word & Excel, so I would like to uninstall Entourage, Messenger and probably PowerPoint as well. However, at this point I'm, afraid to do anything else. (Also, i thought it was strange I didn't have a chance to pick w/ Office products to install.)
Any ideas on how to get rid of this Keychain message in Safari?
    MTIA!

Follow Up: A few days later, there was a Apple software update. After it was installed, the keychain error message went away.
The keychain error was so annoying, I had decided not to install Office for Macs on my iMac, but since there's no longer a problem on my MacBook, I will probably go ahead and put it on the iMac.

I have updated to os x 10.8.4 and I am trying to install office 2008 for mac from a flashdrive of my friends, but it won't work. Anyone know what I can do?

That said, finding support for illegally installing it from a flash drive of your friend's... no ;-)

  • Installing Office 2008 for MAC

I don't see a specific place in the forums to post this, so I thought I'd start here.
Does anyone have any tips for a new mac user before installing office 2008 for mac?
    Thanks,
    Paul

My recommendation is go ahead and install Office for Mac 2008 with confidence. Once installed then choose Help from the top menu of any office application and the choose *Check for Updates* and update the installation to the latest version right away.
    After that it works well.
FYI - MS Excel 2008 for Mac does not have the functionality to run Macros. Just thought that you should know.
