Office 2008 for mac on os x 10.8.4

I have updated to os x 10.8.4 and I am trying to install office 2008 for mac from a flashdrive of my friends, but it won't work. Anyone know what I can do?

Office 2008 should work.
That said, finding support for illegally installing it from a flash drive of your friend's... no ;-)

  • Office 2008 for Mac: Any advice on where to get it cheaper for a student?

I am about to go into my Master's Degree at Dallas Theological Seminary and I need to get Office 2008 for Mac. The Apple store recommended me get it at my school but my school's bookstore does not have it and journeyed.com doesn't support DTS. Does anyone know how or where I can get this program for less than $100 with a student discount? I really need to know.

Also, be aware that this is a forum for troubleshooting compatibility issues between Mac OS and Windows, and that Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products are the best place to post Office related questions. Good luck...

  • Using ms office 2008 for mac home & student edition with snow leopard serv

    Hi all,
I have a very particular question.
I have a new small business starting up and we want to make full use of leopard and snow leopard server in our infrastructure. We also want to use os x for all our client machines.
We want to use ms office 2008 for mac as our main offfice software but i believe we don't need all the uses or festures of the business edtion and i need to seek good advice and clarity on this.
We won't ever use any microsoft exchange servers but instead willl use the apple mail servers and all the other apple server services.
My question is, based on the fact that we will have an all apple mac os x backend and client frontend but want to use the ms office for mac as our business software, and also based on the fact that we wont use the "Build your Brand clip art, Build your skills by lynda.com, the Remote Desktop for mac 2, the Microsoft Exchange Server Support and the Microsoft Windows sharepoint services support, do we really need to go for the business edition? Can we not just use the home and student edition and get the same functionality using everything else apart form what we listed as we wont need these?
The other question is, the Entourage 2008, Web services Edition, will this work with an apple backend instead of ms exchange server?
Kind regards and thanks for your wise advice,
    Neil Watson

    Thanks, Kurt--I understand now.
One reason I was alarmed was that evidently when the tech installed Office 2008, something went awry with either the key installer or the key code, because when I finished the first two updates (12.1 and 12.2), I tried to open Entourage to see if the problem I'd been having was resolved. Instead of opening, Office gave me a message that my product key was invalid!  I did find the product key, and called the tech, who will come by to see what's wrong (he's an honest guy, so I'm sure it's a legitimate error of some kind, not a pirated copy). But the thought of installing two pages of updates and maybe running into the same glitch every time made me blanch.  So I'm glad to know that Microsoft is still doing Service Packs for 2008!

    Hi
In the first instance, I'd use Onyx and run through its sequence of maintenance and tune up tools:
    Verify, Maintenance, Cleaning.
I'd also reset the SMC and PRAM (Google them)
If that doesn't help then I'd look at System Preferences.. > Accounts > Login Items tab (not Login Options).  Check what processes get started at login and decide which ones you don't want.
After that I'd use Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor to see if any processes are using a lot of computer power or if anything else nasty might be happening.
If none of this helped then my final step would be to reinstall OS X.

  • IWork on iPad & Office 2008 for Mac

    Hi everyone,
I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but are the iWork apps on the iPad capable of exporting documents to the Mac in a format that is readable by Office 2008 for Mac (i.e. .doc, docx, etc) or is it only iWork 09 on the Mac that is capable of opening documents created by these apps ?
    Thanks,

Actually the responses here are not correct. Steve Jobs specifically said to Walt Mossberg that he could type a document in Pages on the iPad and then send it from the same device in Word format. The iWork apps on the iPad are going to be able to both read and export to their MS Office equivalents.
To hear Jobs state this in regard to Word, go to http://kara.allthingsd.com/20100128/boomtowns-apple-ipad-day-starring-walt-mossb erg-plus-a-steve-jobs-cameo/ and look for his comments at around the 3:25 mark in the video.

  • Safari Keychain error after installing Office 2008 for Macs

I installed Office 2008 for Macs this morning. It then checked for updates to download, found a couple of big ones, and they were downloaded.
Since then, when in Safari, I keep getting a message saying something like "A keychain cannot be found for Safari" with 2 options: Cancel or Return to Default. Neither one changes anything.
I use only web-based email (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo) so this is a major annoyance for me.
From Office 2008 for Macs, I really only need to use Word & Excel, so I would like to uninstall Entourage, Messenger and probably PowerPoint as well. However, at this point I'm, afraid to do anything else. (Also, i thought it was strange I didn't have a chance to pick w/ Office products to install.)
Any ideas on how to get rid of this Keychain message in Safari?
    MTIA!

Follow Up: A few days later, there was a Apple software update. After it was installed, the keychain error message went away.
The keychain error was so annoying, I had decided not to install Office for Macs on my iMac, but since there's no longer a problem on my MacBook, I will probably go ahead and put it on the iMac.

  • Office 2008 for Mac and hyperlinks

I am shortly to get a Macbook Pro. In my work I use a large table of jobs - a Word document - representing reports and each named job is a hyperlink to the job itself; this is in Word for Windows and works seamlessly for Office 2003 and Office 2007. The hyperlink can be to another Word document, a TIF file and probably a range of other file types.
In Office 2008 for Mac will I be able to do the same thing? Indeed, will I be able to import the same Word document to Office 2008, use the hyperlinks, add to the jobs and the hyperlinks, and then export it back to Word for Windows and have all the hyperlinks still work?
    Leon

This is a Leopard Installation and Setup forum. I suspect you will find that your files will work fine, but why don't you ask a Microsoft forum to be sure? Microsoft supports their Mac Office users.

How can I download Micosoft Office 2008 for Mac on my new Macbook Air? I have the DVD and product key

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    You have two options:
    1. If you have another Mac or PC, use Remote Disc to install it on your Mac > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5287
    2. Buy an external optical drive and use it to install Microsoft Office.
Both options work correctly. If you are going to use the optical drive once, use Remote Disc, but it will be much slower than using an optical drive connected to the computer

  • Installing Office 2008 for MAC

I don't see a specific place in the forums to post this, so I thought I'd start here.
Does anyone have any tips for a new mac user before installing office 2008 for mac?
    Thanks,
    Paul

My recommendation is go ahead and install Office for Mac 2008 with confidence. Once installed then choose Help from the top menu of any office application and the choose *Check for Updates* and update the installation to the latest version right away.
    After that it works well.
FYI - MS Excel 2008 for Mac does not have the functionality to run Macros. Just thought that you should know.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
Open Console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & next startup for clues.

  • Is Office 2008 for Mac more compatible with PC's ?

    Hi,
I currently have iWork 09. Sometimes, I save my documents to a .doc format for instance, but when I re-open it, I always have error messages saying that this thing or that thing has been modified to fit the current format etc...
    If I use office 2008, will it be a 100% compatible with PC's ?
    Sincerely.

Yes, Office for Mac should be fully compatible with Office on Windows.
The reason errors are popping up on your iWork documents may be because you are using things that aren't supported in Word (such as image reflections, or different fonts).

  • Font Problem in Mail after installation of Office 2008 for Mac

Since I installed my 2008 Office for Mac I have had occasional problems with the font display in IMail. Sometimes the fonts are just gibberish but will become readable again if/when I change the font sizing. Any suggestions? When I installed Office 2008 I had previously deleted the Trial Version of Office for Mac 2004 and the installer for Office 2008 did not find any prior Office installation.
    Thanks

Download Font Nuke. Close all other applications you may have running.
Run Font Nuke and click on the "Nuke Font Caches" button at the upper left. The panel will fill with other choices. At the lower right, first click "Update Caches List". It will search your hard drive for font cache files and list them. The purpose being simply so you can see what is about to be removed. Click the "Nuke Font Caches" button at the bottom right. Your Mac will restart. Don't attempt to stop the restart. You should always restart immediately after removing any cache files.

  • Is it worth it spending $200 dlls in the new Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac?

I am trying to decide whether to upgrade my Mac to the new Microsoft Office 2008. Is it worth it? What are the differences between the new version and the old one?

There are more differences than would be practical to list here.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicrosoftOffice_2008_forMac
might be a good place to start, as well as Microsoft's website for a full description of new features. ArsTechnica also has a review of it on their website somewhere too.
Is there any specific reason for upgrading? If not, then I would recommend sticking with 2004. I went out and got 2008 about a month ago (student licensing, so it only cost me $40) and I'm not at all impressed. It's slower than 2004, even on my quad-core Mac Pro. The overall responsiveness of the application is sluggish, especially in Powerpoint. Dragging textboxes and other elements around the page, for example, is incredibly laggy and feels imprecise. No to mention Microsoft broke Endnote compatibility in Word 2008 as well, so if the Cite While You Write feature is important to you, forget about it. I'm sticking with Office 2004 and iWork for now. I don't feel so bad since I only spent $40 on it; no way would I justify $200 unless I needed 2008 for a specific reason (ie work compatibility, etc)
