Office 2013 Administrative Templates & GPO

Hey, everyone!
I’m sure someone here will know what I’m doing wrong, so hopefully it’s something simple.
This is my first attempt to utilize Office 2013 Administrative Templates in a GPO. I downloaded the templates from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35554)
and extracted them.
I then created a new GPO so that the policy folder was created in logonserver\sysvol\%userdnsdomain%\policies\Adm.
In that folder, I copy the appropriate .admx files and the en-us folder.
Then, when I go to edit that GPO, I get an error:
The following error has occurred in \\Hudsonchapel.org\SysVol\Hudsonchapel.org\Policies\<GUID>\Adm\proj15.admx on line 1: Error
51 Unexpected keyword.
Found <?xml
Expected: CLASS, CATEGORY,
[strings]
The file can not be loaded.
This occurs for any .admx file I’ve tried.
I’m not sure what else to try. I’ve followed what I know to do.
Could someone help me figure out what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks!
-Eric

Hi Eric,
>>I then created a new GPO so that the policy folder was created in logonserver\sysvol\%userdnsdomain%\policies\Adm.
In that folder
How is it going? Did we follow the article provided by Zanderol24 to create the Central Store for admx files? The location of central store is:
%systemroot%\sysvol\domain\policies\PolicyDefinitions
Regarding ADMX files, the following article can be referred to for more information.

  • Office 2013 Administrative Template files (ADMX/ADML) and Office Customization Tool

When I download the Office 2013 Admin Template files (ADMX/ADML) and OCT I get 3 files. Admin, AMDX and a excel spreadsheet. Is the Admin
folder the ADML folder? Reason I ask is b/c I'm trying to disable the Offie 2013 Startup screen via GPO and I have been directed to save the ADMX to %systemroot%PolicyDefinitions and ADML to %systemroot%PolicyDefinitions\en-us
on my base image that I am creating so obviously the ADMX is straight forward, but not the ADML since all I see is Admin. thanks,
    SSC

    Hi,
When you downloaded an Office Administrative Template files, please extract them to your driver, say
D:\.  You need to copy all .admx file under D:\..\ADMX folder into
    %systemroot%\PolicyDefinitions. It’s a root-level folder, which contains all language-neutral ADMX files.
Then please copy all .adml files under D:\...\ADML\en-us into
%systemroot%\PolicyDefinitions\EN-US. This subfolder contains the language-specific ADML resource files. You can create subfolder of %systemroot\PolicyDefinitions for each language that you will use.
For how to load the Administrative Template files, please follow the instructions for "Loading the ADMX templates" in Use Group Policy to enforce Office 2010 settings:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179081.aspx . Although the article is for Office 2010, the Administrative Templates information also applies to Office 2013.

  • Office 2010 Administrative Templates - Missing Policies

I have an Office 2010 GPO that needs to enable a policy called "Disable username and password" located at:
Computer Configuration --> Admistrative Templates --> Microsoft Office 2010 (Machine) --> IE Settings
It seems that policy, and any policy that should be there, does not exist.
I have added the admistrative template (.adm) files  for the Office 2010 32-bit version. I have even added the .admx files to \\mydomain\sysvol\mydomain\Policies\PolicyDefinitions as well as added .adml files to "" ""\en-us.
Is there a step that I missed? Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Jasmin

    Hi Jasmin,
Before going further, I want to confirm where we got the administrative template files. Besides, we can follow the path of the central store to open
the admx file of Office 2010 to check whether some files are missing.
Regarding Administrative Template files for Office 2010, the following article can be referred to for more information.

  • Office 2013 Document Templates

    Morning All,
I have successfully installed the ADMX templates for Office 2013
Changed the workgroup path to the server where I stored all the letterheads etc
However by default in MS Word the workgroup path hasnt changed to what it should be I have to select it manually
The GPO should force it to the path I entered unless I am mistaken?

I did ineed, I tested it with a SG and although the workgroup templates are there.  the path on each machine still is blank so I have to point it at the share on the server where the templates are stored.
if you check the registry directly, is this registry path correctly populated?
    HKCU\software\policies\microsoft\office\15.0\common\general!sharedtemplates
If you set the setting by using the UI, it will set this key instead:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\General!sharedtemplates

  • App-V 5 Client + Office 2013 (Administrator OK, user Not OK)

    Dear MS,
I've installed App-V environment onto our Windows 2008 RDS farm with your tech documents successfully.
Then I test it with a simple sequenced app (Mozilla Firefox and XML notepad) and it ran successfully.
I've also sequenced Office 2013 with ODT (Office Deployment Tool), no errors at the end.
But now the problems starts: when I log in as a normal user, then Office 2013 will show in Start menu, but disappears after a short time.
Logging in as Administrator doesn't have the issue, Office 2013 works perfectly.
The MS Office 2013 has been sequenced onto Win 2008 and 2012.
(yes, I know the 2012 sequencer is not ok for 2008 RDS, but the Firefox and Notepad were sequenced on Win 2012 and ran perfectly on Win 2008).
I did'n found related information on the technet forums.
What could it be? Kind of permissions on VFS? Where can I fix it? Or is the issue related to the sequencer?
ps. also tried installing MS hot fix 4 (and 5) for App-V 5 client, but the issues keep coming back.

What messages are in the App-V log in event viewer that might be applicable?
The message beneath viewed when an user log in. As an administrator, the event doesn't show up
Part or all packages publish failed.
published: 2 (Firevox and XML notepad)
     failed: 1 (Office 2013)
Please check the error events of 'Configure/Publish Package' before this message for the details of the failure.
    EventID 19104
Are you redirecting the Start Menu to the network?
Nope, the start menu shows only default applications when the user logs in.
The App-V Folder in Start Menu from Firefox and XML notepad are visible, but the office folder doesn't come up.
As an administrator, both Firefox, XML notepad AND Office folders are visible.
    -but-
When I use Start Menu folder redirection, no one App-V application is visible (Event shows that Applications are loaded), how can I fix it here?
What are you using to manage user profiles?
I use AD User and Computer configuration to manage profiles
Does the application run if you browse to the EXE in Windows Explorer?
What does this to do with app-v? Because when you sequence the app, then is it no more EXE.
But, these EXE runs flawless in Windows Explorer (so there is no problem with the OS and the application).
    Please help?

  • Server based Office 2013 - New template, template not showing header content in one work station only

This is for Server based Office 2013 - using Word
All computer work stations are running Windows 7 professional
I have Word 97 - 2003 templates saved on the shared drive on the server. I have these templates "pinned" to the opening page on all server user accounts, so when anyone starts word on the server anyone can see the company templates.
On most of the work stations, when I create a new document from one of my templates - Word successfully shows all the Header and Footer details.
But on one work station there is no content in the Header or Footer, no matter which server account is signed into the server on that workstation.
    Any suggestion

... ... no matter which server account is signed into the server on that workstation.
    Any suggestion
Do you mean it happens regardless of which acount signed in? If so, maybe update the workstation?

  • Office 2013 macro warnings GPO

How do we enable all macros to run that are stored from our LAN?
At the moment we receive warning below the ribbon in excel and word advising that some content maybe dangerous and to enable macros. Also we receive a Security warning after enabling macros; Do you want to make this file a trusted documents? All files stored
on local drives and network shares should automatically be trusted so users are not faced with these prompts.
Please advise how i can suppress this using GPO?
    regards

using office GPO templates, you need to change settings in Word and Excel - its under Word, Word Options, Security, Trust Center, Trusted locations. Excel path is similar. You can set trusted locations using gpo too.
    The policy keys are at:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\word\security\trusted locations
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\excel\security\trusted locations

  • Office 2013 - File New Default Location

In Word when you go File - New is there any way to get it to default to the "Shared" templates instead of the "Featured" templates?

    Hi,
You will need to do this via GPO.
First you need to download Office 2013 Administrative Template files (ADMX/ADML) from this link below:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35554
Press Win + R, type "gpedit.msc" in the blank box, press Enter.
Expand User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Microsoft Word 2013 -> Miscellaneous -> Find Show custom templates tab by default in Word on the Office Start screen and in File | New. Select Enabled and Apply -> OK.

    Hi,
We can disable OneDrive in Office with Group Policy.
First, please download Office 2013 Administrative Template files (ADMX/ADML) from this link below:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35554
Then, press Win + R, type "gpedit.msc" in the blank box, press Enter.
The settings can be found under User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Microsoft Office 2013 -> Miscellaneous. Select the “Block signing into Office” option in the list of settings. In the Properties window, click “Enable” and select
the option “None Allowed.” Save the settings and open Word to check, there should be no OneDrive option for the user.

  • Office 2013 H&B Click to Run - First Run Wizard Keeps Popping up

I repeatedly get this popup happening. I run though all the steps in the wizard and close program. Next time I open it the wizard pops up again. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling twice.
    I tried to run the command: secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose

  • Office 2013 - Templates contacting MS Server

    Dear Community,
I've installed Office 2013 Std. on one of our Windows 7 (32 bit) without Office templates. But when I start Word or Excel, the system is always asking for a username & password. This message popups, because our proxy is blocking the connection to: office15client.microsoft.com
We won't allow the access to that and what I don't understand is: we installed without templates, but Office 2013 wants to connect to the internet. Has anyone an idea how to disable that?
    Thanks for helping/discussing.

    Hi,
How did you install Office 2013 without templates?  Based on my test, only Access and Outlook have templates in the installation.
And try to uncheck File>options>trust center>trust options>privacy> "Allow office to connect to the internet" option in Excel 2013 and Word 2013 to check the issue.

  • Office 2013 GPO Silent install doesn't run consistently

client is all Dell Win 7. Servers are 2012. Project is to install Office 2013 silently with GPO at computer start. Everything is configured correctly and it works on some computers. I set it install in a larger group by linking the GPO to that group of computers. Told everyone to reboot and waited. Nothing. It didn't install. I know it works because I haven't changed it and I have seenit work multiple times. Try another reboot. Nothing. Then one of them works. Then another. Then another. Not all at once and not always at reboot. Some of them just install in the middle of the day. Is this a "load balancing" feature where all of them are not installed at once so the server isn't overwhelmed? If not, why does it work sometimes and then at random times. The actual install doesn't take very long. Maybe my server doesn't have the horsepower...
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

I've not tried the Dashboard connection yet.
I will try to connect and setup permissions using TDADM.
    This is my thoughts etc. so far;
problem starts when running dpconfig.exe - therefore I can skip re-running (and 'repairing') the install using the MSI
dpconfig doesn't appear to have any command line options? (ran "dpconfig /?" from a command line and still just launched the wizard)
so far, even if permission are or get set correctly, processor hasn't been linked to the share yet - only dpconfig can do that?
had installed the Processor on Server 2012 in Core UI. Thought dpconfig might be trying to launch Explorer, which isn't available in Core, so went up to "Server with GUI" (bypassing "minimal"). However, this didn't change anything. Left at Server with GUI
for now (although would prefer to run as Core if supported - nothing says it isn't?)
by default, our server config blocks all Firewall ports incoming (the out of the box config) only opening up ports as required. I'll try turning the Processor Firewall off.
    Seems like not a lot of people do this (install the 2013 Telemetry), as very little online apart from Microsoft pages. Trying to dig through the Powershell script posted (by you Jill?) here;
http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_resource_kit/archive/2012/09/25/quickly-set-up-office-telemetry-dashboard-on-a-workgroup-or-domain-joined-computer.aspx . However, looks like even in this one that for domain joined machines, dpconfig is launched interactively,
so still no cmd line options!

  • Office 2013 ADMX files not being read by group policy editor?

Okay so I'm having a real problem with the ADMX files for Office 2013. First of all we have a mix of 2012 R2 DCs with one 2008 R2 DC. The 2008 R2 is currently the primary DC. Here's what I've done so far:
Downloaded the ADMX files both 32 and 64bit.
Copied from my machine (Win7) to 2012R2 DC.
Downloaded and copied directly to the 2012R2DC policy definitions location
According to the research I've done, the Office 2013 template is supposed to appear under User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates. However it doesn't show up no matter what I do.
I consider myself fairly knowledgeable with GPOs but I'm stumped on this one. Can someone tell me what I'm missing here?

    Hi,
Have you copied the ADML files to the language folder in the PolicyDefinitions folder?

  • Ie11 administrative template settings not applied

2008 R2 domain with mostly windows 7 clients running ie8. upcoming project to upgrade them to ie11.
I copied the inetres.admx and inetres.adml files from the PolicyDefinitions folder on a windows 8.1 PC with ie11 and pasted them into the central store.
I created a new GPO that configures "access data across domains" to "disabled" from user configuration/policies/administrative templates/windows components/internet explorer/internet control panel/security page/internet zone.
I logged into four test machines with the same user account.
    windows 7 with ie8
    windows 7 with ie9
    windows 8 with ie10
    windows 8.1 with ie11
all four machines show this setting correctly Disabled with my GPO as the winning GPO in RSOP, but *only* the ie8 machine properly shows this setting as Disabled in its Internet Settings. the ie9, ie10, and ie11 machines all have the setting Enabled in their
    Internet Settings.
full disclosure: there is an old-school Internet Explorer Maintenance GPO in place that sets this to Enabled. but in theory, that GPO should only affect the ie8 and ie9 machines, right? and yet the ie8 machine is the only one getting the correct
setting from my new administrative template GPO.
is there an easy way in GPMC to tell if i'm actually working with the ie11 version of inetres.admx or not? some setting that's new for this version?

    ARRRGHHH!!!
found it. *somebody* set up a Computer Settings GPO applying these same administrative template IE settings to all workstations. I'm going to guess this GPO was set up prior to my arrival at this job in 2005 because I don't remember doing it, and
it would never have occurred to me to put these settings on the machine side--as evidenced by the fact that i've only been looking at the user side in RSOP during this whole thread. the IE settings in this machine GPO also match up with the settings
in the old IEM GPO we've been using, so it appeared as though IEM was configuring everything.
thanks everybody for your time and your help.

  • Office Administrative Template installation with 32 and 64 bits clients

    Hello,
I would like to install the Office Administrative Templates (2007, 2010, 2013) but I don't really understand how.
I have several clients computers :
-Windows XP and 7 (the XP will disappear but not now so I have to handle with)
    - 32 and 64 bits (OS and associate Office version)
    - two Office languages (English and French)
In this case, what I have to put in the domain controllers (or in the central store for GPO, not matters), to cover all the cases ?
I do not understand the x86 or x64 Office administrative templates versions neither how the languages are managed.
    Thanks a lot.

The Office2013 Admin Templates+OCT is available in both 32bit and 64bit formats
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35554
Because the download contains the Templates *and* the OCT (OPAX/OPAL and various DLLs etc), and, the OCT itself and also the OCT output file (a customization MSPfile) is architecture-specific, that is why there is a 32bit and a 64bit download.
The ADMX/ADML files themselves, are not architecture-specific.
ADMX and OPAX, is language-neutral, the language-specific details are contained within ADML/OPAL.
