Office for Mac issues with Lion

Since installing Lion, I no longer have access to my Office for Mac Excel, Word, or PowerPoint...is there a simple fix for this?

Both my wife and I use Excel and Word for work.......would you recommend, then that the upgrade would make sense, as our version is pretty old, anyway?
If you don't use Outlook then you could use one of the freebies, Open Office or Libre Office are often recommended, but they are not 100% compatible with MS Office, there will be minor formatting changes, and if you use VBA or Excel macros to help in your work you will have to do without them.
Buy Office 2011 Home & Student for Mac (no Outlook) should be around $100, if you and your wife have individual computers you will need 2 copies.

  • Communicator for Mac crashes with Lion

Microsoft Communicator for Mac 13.1.1 crashes when using Lion. Any idea for a workaround or fix?

    Hello chrisr1965,
If it's helpful, have a look at http://blog.officeformac.com/office-for-mac-2011-and-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/ - Microsoft's Mac team are working to resolve this known issue with Communicator in the Lion's environment.
Hopefully it won't be too long before it's remedied.

  • Office for mac compatible with OS X Yosemite?

Just wondered if I will have issues  with Office for Mac after loading Yosemite?  I need the Office for Mac programs to run my business and can't afford losing the data.  Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

If you believe that then I have this bridge for sale you might like to buy.
Perhaps you should read a bit more closely. I'm quite aware the current version of Office is missing much of what the Windows version can do. I clearly stated the Mac version is far behind.
The current version is Office 2011 for Mac. As you can see (it was actually released late 2010), it hasn't been updated a bit over four years. It is mostly compatible with any documents created in the Windows versions of Office, but newer features of Office 2013 for Windows may not open as expected under the last boxed Mac version.
The older email Mac client version of Entourage, and the current email client Outlook, have always been behind (often, far behind) the capabilities of the Windows versions.
The upcoming simultaneous Windows and Mac versions of Office 2015 are supposed to be feature equivalent. When MS closed the Mac Division, it didn't just go away, it was merged with the Windows division so they are developed together instead of separately.

  • Syncing Office for Mac Calender with ICal / IPhone etc

I have just installed 30 day trial of Office for Mac on my IMac running mount Lion.
So, I m temporarily running calenders in Office and ICal (the calenders are the same, not seperated for different people or groups or the like).
When I add an event to Office it updates ICal fine, but ICal doesn't update ICloud and so my Iphone and Ipad dont get updated either.
I've just tested by updating the ICal calnder and that updates Iphone, Ipad and Icloud fine, but not the Office Calender.
    any ideas?
    thanks

Outlook 2011 for Mac does not support DAV standards. iCloud uses DAV services for Contacts and Calendars. They will not appear in Outlook, sorry.

  • Word 2011 for Mac Issue with Custom Page Size

I have installed Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac on my brand new iMac.  I'm using Microsoft Word 2011 for Mac and I have opened the "Word Publishing Layout" template (this is essentially Microsoft Publisher).  I'm trying to set up custom page sizes by performing the following steps.  I go to File --> Page Setup and use the following settings:
    1. Settings: Page Attributes
    2. Format For: Any Printer
    3. Paper Size:  I choose "Manage Custom Sizes"
    4. I create a 24x36 page and save it
When I do this, Word 2011 (and Word 2008) for Mac will only go to a maximum of 22 inches wide and 22 inches in height.  Is there any way around this?  I need the big sizes to do digital proofs for my business.  I don't want to scale down to 12x18 (essentially cutting the proof by 50%) because when I import it into my other program that can accommodate any size document, I have to do a lot of manual work to get things back to scale.  Thanks in advance for your help.  If we can figure this out, I'll be grateful.

  • Syncing Office for Mac Files with ICloud

I am using Office for Mac on both my iMac and Air.  I want to sync my Word, Powerpoint and Excel files between the computers using ICloud.  Can/how do I do this?

Office for Mac does not support iCloud.
You can save Office files to iCloud using Pages, Numbers and Keynote instead of Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

  • NVIDIA QUADRO 4000 for MAC---Issues with Adobe Premeire

    Hello,
    Mac Pro (Tower)
    *OS 10.7.5
    *2.8 GHx Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    *16 GB RAM
I've had a multitude of issues with Adobe Premiere on this system and I'm not sure what to attribute it to.  First of all: I have two MAC Book Pro's that run APremiere, with similiar specs and only 8GB of RAM.  These two laptops run APremiere flawlessly and it's because of this reason that I can deduce, that my 'tower' is having issues because of the NVIDIA QUADRO 4000 installed; it's the only difference, besides the RAM, that the computers have.  Has anyone had issues using the NVIDIA QUADRO 4000 before?  Some of the issues I've been having are (please note, these issues are random, happen at random times and on random projects.  The majority of the footage I use is MOV (from DSLR cameras) and MP4's (from a Sony EX-1)):
    *Renders crashing
    *Slow clip playback
*An oddity: certain MP4 files will go out of sync-on playback from APremiere and even in a VLC player
    *AMedia Encoder crashes
Maybe the NVIDIA has nothing to do with it?
Thanks for your time and help.
    Tim S.

Maybe the NVIDIA has nothing to do with it?
One way to accrue evidence would be to turn off Mercury Playback in the Project Settings.
I have that card, and turning of MPE often gets me through a session.  Some here have claimed that the card is the cause of the frequent Serious Errors, and disabling it is the solution.
That's hardly satisfactory when one of the best features of Pr is the ability to use CUDA.
However, anything going through the card also has to pass through Pr and the OS.  Adobe claims that updating to 10.8 fixes some bugs, but according to some here (myself included), not enough.
I had one project recently that I couldn't get the Serious Errors to stop until I re-installed the nVidia driver.
But, your list of problems could be due to corrupt Pr preferences.  If you have a Mac, you need to get used to refreshing your prefs several times a day.  They could also be corrupt media.  That will cause renders to crash.

  • Best webcam for Mac Mini with lion os

WHat is the best webcam to use on most recent mac mini (lion OS)?

I purchased a Logitech HD C910 and it works really well. The non-included software for Mac you have to download is crap, but you don't need it for Skype, iChat, PhotoBooth, Google+ hangouts, etc.

  • I am running 10.6.8 on an iMac7,1 with 2.4GHz, 4Gb RAM.  Other than usual Apple apps, I also run Microsoft Office for Mac.  Am i better off upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks rather than trying to go to Yosemite ?  Thanks!

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on an iMac 7,1 system with 2.4GHz processor and 4Gb RAM.   I also use Microsoft Office for Mac.
I am wondering whether i should upgrade to Yosemite or first go to Mountain Lion or Maverics to avoid sluggishness and other potential issues with using Yosemite on this iMac.

i had thought Snow Leopard was no longer supported hence my idea to upgrade.
It isn't being supported any longer.
If you haven't done this you might want to consider doing it for security.

  • Is mountain lion compatible with old (2004) version of microsoft office for MAc?

I have heard that Mountain Lion is not compatible with old (2004) version of microsoft office for MAc. Is that true?

    Kurt Lang wrote:
... unless, like me, you open up an uber-important Excel 2004 file in Excel 2011 and get the following dialog box which leads to a trashed Chart, which I need access to EVERY WEEK:
Can't say I've ever seen such error messages, and I've opened lots of files created back in OS 8. Also many more much older than that from Windows 95 and even MS-DOS.
Lucky for you; unlucky for me that an important Excel 2004 Chart gets corrupted when opened in Excel 2011!
I suspect the problem is in the conversion routine that Microsoft added to Office 2011 to update Excel 2004 files.  How conversant are you historically with converting Excel 2004 files that contain charts to Excel 2011?  Because your experience with OS 8, Windows 95 and even MS-DOS has no relevance on this issue.
    Kurt Lang wrote:
You will notice, Kurt, that I based my advice to the OP as "if you are unable or unwilling to upgrade to Microsoft Office 2011..."
Yes, I saw it. But if everyone did what you would expect with your statement, no one would suggest upgrading to Office 2011. Besides, you're the one who stated "unable or unwilling", not the OP.
Are you always this argumentative, or is this my lucky day?
Many people suggest upgrading to Office 2011. I do it frequently in my other "workarounds" type of answers to the Rosetta in Lion/Mountain problem.  I chose not to offer that solution here, and as I expected, someone else, namely you, did!
The problem was that you finished your suggestion with this comment: "Particularly when it isn't really necessary."  Since this statement was not true in my case (it IS necessary for me to continue to use my important Excel 2004 file as well as some other historical files I have; and conceivably could be important to the OP), I posted the correction.
You also made the suggestion that: "...the cost of VM software isn't that much less than just upgrading to Office 2011." While certainly true in the vacuum of the OP asking specifically about Word 2004; when the OP becomes aware that his complete library of PPC applications will fail in Mountain Lion, your suggestion about the relative cost to upgrade may no longer be as relevant.
Lastly: Yes, I commonly state to similar OP's that if they are "unable" (because, for example, they may also have conversion problems with Office 2011, Appleworks 6, Freehand or other programs) or "unwilling" (perhaps they just cannot afford to upgrade all of their PPC apps at this time), that here is an alternative that will keep the status quo available to them, and buy them some more time to consider their options while continuing to use Lion/Mountain Lion and their PowerPC apps.
Is the relevance of my post to the OP's problem (and your reply to my solution) sufficiently clear for you now?

  • Is anyone else having problems with Office for Mac and Lion?

Since installing Lion 10.7.1 on a macbook pro 2.53 Ghz 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 I have had no end of problems. Both Excel and Word hang, crash and saving an Excel file is a pain. A 12mb spread sheet just took 4 minutes to save! I have MS Office for Mac 2011 version 14.1.3.
Another problem that may not be related to Office is that opening Finder is so slow and most of the time it takes a minute to display folders in Desktop or Documents.
Any suggestions would be welcome .. I regret installing Lion .. I had no problems with Snow Leopard!
