Office Web Apps - "Could not find trace string in ULS logs" unhealthy?

I have reviewed everything I could find on unhealthy WAC clusters as my problem seems unrelated to certificate or missing components.  I've already digested
http://www.wictorwilen.se/office-web-apps-server-2013---machines-are-always-reported-as-unhealthy (Thanks Wictor).
The particular configuration is an Office Web Apps 2013 ([X-OfficeVersion, 15.0.4551.1005]), running on top of Windows Server 2012, configured for http access (SSL offloaded NLB cluster) and finally linked to Exchange 2013, Lync 2013 and SharePoint
2013.  Everything works as expected from client side after setting IIS ARR to handle all reverse proxy bits.

The problem however is an incessant logging on the WAC cluster nodes of event 1204,2204 followed almost immediately by 1004,2004.  This repeats every 4min or so...

I suspect these might be related, but can't seem to find any logical explanation why this should cause the Get-OfficeWebAppsMachine to report HealthStatus of Unhealthy.  If related, is there a way to disable this check or remove throttling in a safe
way?  Alternatively if this is some coding issue (I've not found any other blog/QA dealing with this particularly) it would be nice to get confirmation of this and potentially a fix/solution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi ChristiaanB,
You get this ULS error because you change the log verbosity of the OWA farm. I wrote an article for this on my blog : OWA unhealthy uls issue

  • Office Web Apps is not working

       Hi,
         We have tried to deploy Office Web Apps Server but, after a number of tests, we haven't been able to view PowerPoint presentations. We tested "everything" but it didn't work.
         Finally, to simplify and focus the problem, we just deployed Office Web Apps Server "on its own", that is: just Internal URL, HTTP, Open From URL Enabled and sharing docs from a shared folder in the same server. So we have:
         \\wacserver\share\<Docs> (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
         http://wacserver
         They work both "/hosting/discovery" and "/op/generate.aspx".
         If we try to view Excel doc, it works. If we try to view Word or PowerPoint, id doesn't work.
         For PowerPoint, it appears the PowerPoint Web Apps frame (FILE, START SLIDE SHOW, SLIDE - OF -, NOTES...) and, in the center, an animation
    "PowerPoint Web App .....". After a couple of minutes, it stops with "Either you've lost network connectivity or our server is to busy to handle your request".
         What we have seen from different sources:

         There were some folders and registry keys Network Service was trying to access with ACCESS DENIED response. We gave it permissions and they disappeared.
         SYSTEM is trying to access some registry keys (SpellingWcfprovider.exe => HKU\S-1-5-18, ImagingService.exe => HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options, and 2 or 3 more). It gets an ACCESS DENIED
    but SYSTEM, we have checked, has "Full control" permissions in those keys or folders.
         These errors appear by Office Web Server running itself, although we are not making a PowrPoint file request.

         The cache folder has enough disk size and PowerPoint.pptx file is just 30 KB.
         It repeats this flow 3 times (as for the first HTTP requests).
         During the 2 minutes test (until it fails) there are 14 traces like:

    pid).
         We have tried a number of things but none has worked. The farm has just one server and it says ist's unhealthy. We have Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. We have read some ways to fix the health, like HTTP Activation feature, but it only works
    for Windows Server 2012 as fas as we know.
         Has anybody experienced something like this or have a posible solution? Office Web Apps Server should be so easy to deploy but we have spent a lot of time with this.
         Thank you very much. Your help will be very appreciated.
         Kind regards.

    Hi John,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you cannot view the PowerPoint files in Office Web Apps in SharePoint.
    Was there any error when you view the PowerPoint files in Office Web Apps?
    You can troubleshoot the error following the link below:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687.aspx#tshoot
    I also recommend to re-configure SharePoint to use the Office Web Apps Server to see if the issue still occurs.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687.aspx#ConfigureMain
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Office Web Apps server not working externally

    Hopefully someone with a functional OWA server can help.  When my users try to share a presentation, whiteboard, or poll as an external user or to an external user (coming through Edge), the content fails to share and this error occurs:
    "We can't connect to the server for presenting right now"
    The server functions internally fine and content shares perfectly.  The OWA server has a certificate from an internal CA and it is published through a TMG reverse proxy.  When I hit the discovery URL, it works fine and triggers the reverse proxy
    rule.  However, when I try to share content, it does not hit the rule.
    Thanks for your help!
    Jim

    Hi,
    Looks like the external lync clients can't connect the office web app server. So please check if you publish the web office app to internet correctly.
    Please refer this document about Publishing Office Web Apps Server Using a Reverse Proxy Server:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204665.aspx

  • Office web App Server Not Working Properly

    Hello Everyone,
    We have published Office Web Apps server externally through reverse proxy and it has some issues. Now if we browse the link
    https://owas.schs.sharjah.ae/hosting/discovery (Internally) or
    https://owa.schs.sharjah.ae/hosting/discovery (Externally) I get the XML Page.
    Now when I try to browse any other pages in the directory for example
    https://owa.schs.sharjah.ae/op/generate.aspx or another Url like
    https://owa.schs.sharjah.ae/m/Presenter.aspx whether it is browsed internally and externally I get the error file not found '404' but the files do exist in the directory.
    No idea on how to solve this issue, any help on this matter is really appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sheldon

    What specific issue are you having?
    Are you wanting to use the WAC to open files using the URL? If so, have you set OpenFromUrlEnabled to true? You can
    check this using Get-OfficeWebAppsFarm cmdlet and Set-OfficeWebAppsFarm OpenFromUrlEnabled $true cmdlet.
    I have several Office WebApp instances that I've deployed for Lync PowerPoint sharing where the setting is not enabled and I am also unable to browse to those pages, but PowerPoint sharing works fine.

  • Office Web Apps - Preview not appearing when acccessing via HTTPS

    I have installed Sharepoint 2013 and Office Web Apps, set the wopibinding, and set the wopizone to be https-external. Everything seems to work fine if accessing the web app using HTTP (can open, edit, preview office web app (WAC) documents)... but if
    I access via HTTPS then I run into a mixed content error when trying to preview the WAC documents... I can open them and edit them without issue using office web apps inside the browser though just not preview.
    If I select "New document" it also takes a while to load and displays a blank pop up window... assume it must be related
    Error message:

    Hi  ,
    Before you configure SharePoint 2013 to use Office Web Apps Server via HTTPS, make sure that you have set up Office Web Apps Server by following the steps in Deploy
    a single-server Office Web Apps Server farm that uses HTTPS or Deploy a multi-server, load-balanced Office Web Apps Server farm
    that uses HTTPS.

    Hi I have installed the SP1 update and since then my office web apps features are not coming up in SharePoint. After running the updates and attaching the farm back i see the bindings and settings are applied but somehow the office web apps features are
    not coming up in SharePoint. Can someone let me know what might be the issue?

  • Remote app - could not find library

    The FAQ didn't help me. Is there some port or something I need to open?

    Sorry I was not clear enough.
    I am on wifi.
    I can get the code then I enter it and iTunes says I can use my touch as a remote.
    But when I try to look for the library, it says it could not find it.
    I almost didn't mention this next part because I didn't want to confuse anyone or distract from a potential solution. My OS is in Korean so it's hard to describe a bit but...
    In XP, if I go to network connections, right click my connection, properties, advanced, and check the box for allowing a different network user to connect... i found the library and changed songs once with this. (just once, the next time i tried it didn't work) BUT THEN a xp error box popped up and said there was an IP conflict with another device and I had to reset everything.
    any more help appreciated!

    Hi,
    Trying to access a document preview from sharepoint 2013 i get "file not found" from the office web app server.
    In the OWA server uls logs I can see a messege "disk cache file not found" so i looked at the cachelocation and the renderinglocalcachlocation
    directories and i can only find the doc preview files in the renderinglocalcachlocation dir.
    I also made sure the identity of openfromurlhost and openfromurlweb application pools have access to this documend and i
    run the openfromurlenable command.
    any ideas ?

  • Office Web Apps 2013 - Word app not working on Sharepoint 2013 but Excel does

    Hi there!
    We had some problems with Office Web Apps 2013 not working with Lync, and the status of OWA was unhealty so we decided to install some updates for OWA.
    We have downloaded November 2013 update for OWA.
    We found out a guide for putting updates on OWA and done this steps:
    * Remove-OfficeWebAppsMachine
    * Installed the november update
    * Restarted OWA server
    * ran: New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalUrl https://owasrv.domain.local -ExternalURL
    https://owasrv.domain.local -CertificateName "certname" -AllowHttp  -EditingEnabled
    * Restart-Service WACSM
    - checked in IIS in the bindings if the site useses the correct certificate
    Then we went on Sharepoint 2013 and ran some commands:
    * Remove-SPWOPIBinding –All:$true
    * New-SPWOPIBinding -ServerName owasrv.domain.local
    * Set-SPWOPIZone –zone “external-https”
    Now here are the funny things:
    * Excel word app on Sharepoint 2013 works
    * Word APP not working (screenshot)
    * Lync 2013 powerpoint still not working (screenshot)
    * status of OWA is healthy

    Hi,
    The Friendly name field must be unique within the Trusted Root Certificate Authorities store.  In -CertificateName, enter the friendly name you gave your
    certificate earlier.
    Validate the configuration by navigating to the discovery URL of the Office Web Apps server.  Like
    https://xxx/hosting/discovery
    Meanwhile, the issue is related to Lync, I recommend to you to post the question on Lync Server for further discussion via the link below.

  • Office Web Apps KeyNotFound Exception After December CU

    After applying the December CU to my WAC 2013 farm, documents will no longer open in browser from SharePoint.  The install went smooth.  I followed the instructions to remove the hosts from the farm, install the update and recreate the farm.  The
    secondary server joined the farm without any errors.  When I try to open a document from a SharePoint site, I see the following errors in the logs on the WAC hosts:
    ServiceInstanceFinderAdapter.FindAllServiceInstances() threw an exception: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.Collections.Generic.KeyNotFoundException: The given key was not

    I can't find any online documentation about this error in a post update scenario.  Any ideas on my next steps?
    Thanks

    Remove the WOPI binding from SharePoint, remove each OWA server from the farm (and the farm itself), then just recreate the setup. It looks like it is missing a machine name in the farm.

  • Office Web Apps 2013 - Excel, fine, Word & Powerpoint, unable to view.

    Hi All,
    I am having an infuriating issue where by the following occurs when opening documents via OWA:
    Excel - Preview, no problem, opening, no problem, editing, no problem (even when accessing oData connections for PWA).
    Word - Preview, errors, opening, errors, editing (incredibly!!) works.
    PowerPoint - Nothing works...
    I think I have read every blog post on every error I am receiving in the ULS but nothing is resolving. It is on a VMware VM and I had to reinstall OWA after it was noted that it has rather surprising behaviour if OWA is not installed on the system drive.
    I have installed each hotfix/update and tested after each with no joy...
    Three (possibly misleading) error categories:
    From OWA log:
    Cannot create WOPI Proof Token - could not find valid old proof key;
    From SP log:
    WOPI Proof: Missing Header;
    Useragent not available, file operations may not be optimized (doubt this is causing my problem but the quality of errors in the logs is so bad it may well be).
    For context, the service account for OWA is local admin on the box and has full access to the content databases on the SQL server.
    The symptoms of the error are the biggest concern given the degrees of success I am having with the different apps (kind of rules out security or setup if Excel works fine and Word sort of works).
    Any help will be very much appreciated and may stop my increasing baldness with the amount of hair I am pulling out!!
    Thanks in advance.
    Sam

    Hi  Sam,
    According to your description, my understanding is that Office Web Apps does not work for viewing Word & PowerPoint.
    For troubleshooting your issue, please access the Office Web Apps Server discovery URL to verify that the Office Web Apps Server farm is working for Word & PowerPoint:
    http://servername/hosting/discovery
    Also please add the OWA url into your “Trusted Sites” in IE.
