Officejet 5610v Power Off Problem

New to the site, hoping someone can help me solve this problem.
When I go to turn off the power, I press the power button and the display reads "shutting down." It will stay this way and don't turn off. I have to unplug it, plug it back in, press the power button, and the display reads "Fax Failure, Unable to send or receive faxes, press OK." I press OK and it is ready to print. Ideas?
TS

I have had my Officejet 5610V now for over two years on my Windows Vista PC. The HP Officejet 5610V that I have has been a turd since the day I bought it. After numerous contacts with tech support and numerous un-installs and re-installs and software downloads and in-stalls, as well as resetting the printer back to the factory settings, I still have to pull the power plug out of the wall socket to turn the HP Officejet 5610V off and plug it in to use it every time. I have never had such a dirty rotten piece of junk in my life!!! I will never purchase another HP Printer again. Tech support was no help at all and I was never offered a replacement printer due to all my problems. Cannon printers have always worked great for me, and it looks like I'm going to have to go buy a new Cannon Printer once I use up the ink in this junk printer. I was looking foreword to having this HP Officejet 5610V printer because it offered so much all in one unit, but I never expected all this hassle and problems!!!

K7N2 Delta Upgrade Power Off Problems

Thanks for the various suggestions. I can confirm:
- 4 pin cpu power plug connected
- front bus frequency changed to 200MHz, processor now recognised correctly as Athlon xp3200+
- I have been assured the cpu has not been overclocked
However power off problem persists. System shuts down after approx 1 minute whether i am in BIOS or start initiaiting xp repair from CD. As the system shuts down after such a short time the xp repair will not complete. The system wil not power on again until at least 15mins has elapsed then promptly powers off again.
I have fitted the D-bracker diagnostic tool and this shows 'operating system booting', ie four green lights.
I note from the motherboard maunal that a cpu thermal protection system is installed for the Athlon cpu platform. If the mechanism senses an abnormal temperature rise it automatically shuts down the system. As noted in my original post the system is powering off with the cpu temp at <40 deg C. The cpu warning temp in the BIOS PC health check stsus facility is set at 60 deg C so do not think this is the issue?
System details:

• Power off problems ----

I was thinking about buying a MB - but --- It's always my belief to not buy anything as soon as it comes out - wait 6 months to 1 year....and read read about the product - I like consumer reports where they rate products.
What are your opinions --- since the MB was released in May - maybe wait until year end ? maybe Apple will have the issue resolved with the power off ? I know it's not all but don't want the possibility as a known possible issue..
Bob

While you plan might sound good, by waiting 12 months there'll be another revision of the MacBook for you to evaluate over the next 12 months. Normally with Apple computers a good time to buy is around 3-5 month after release of a first revision and around 3 months after the release of subsequent revisions.
There will always be issues with ALL computers of one type or other so basically you will need to take a "risk" of one type or other. As of today I feel that the current MacBook is as good as any other release.

I have a Kt6v board with 512 mb ram, leadtek geforce fx 5500, maxtor 40 gb hdd, athlon xp 1800+; I have a problem when i'm trying to install winxp. Just after the first blue screen (when it loads the drivers in the memory) after 35 seconds it switches off my computer, the power button won't work only after unplugging from the ac outlet and reconnecting. Winme works fine (i have it installed right now), I can play 3d games for hours (10-15 hours) without any switching off, but when I try installing Win xp this happens. I really don't have a clue what could be wrong.

• Firmware Fix for Power Off Problems?

I'm running out of time to exchange my 5G and I'm not sure if the general consensus is that a firmware update will fix the problem with the failure of the Ipod to power down while watching a video. Pressing and holding the play button will not cut off the Ipod. I have to go all the way out to the main menu and load a song before it will cut off. Anyone know if this will or can be fixed with firmware? Thanks!
TreoBud

That's exactly what it is. While watching a movie, the hard drive is almost continually spinning, especially towards the beginning. Sometimes, you do have to pause it, go to the main menu, and wait a minute or two before it will turn off. You can tell by the vibration in your hand - if it's vibrating, it won't turn off. The second it stops, it'll turn off. It's kind of annoying, but that's the way it works. No firmare update will fix it, it's a hardware thing.

• 6330 Power off problem

I've installed Windows 2000 on an MSI-6330 System with no problem and it runs fantastic...
EXCEPT when I power it down ..it wont shut down completely. I get the "it is now safe to turn off your computer screen"
I've disabled the ACPI Functions and udated the BIOS???? any help would be appreciated

If you go to Control Panel --> Power Options --> APM
Then check the Enable APM Support and apply you should be set. Automatic powerdown at shutdown should work.

• Major Freezing and Power off problems.

So this is going to be kind of a long post, but if there is anyone out there who knows what the **** I can do to solve this issue I would really appreciate it. I bought an 8gb iPhone when they were first released last summer. Just 2 days ago the phone started to power itself off if it had been in sleep mode for more than a few minutes. I tried everything in the book (reset, reset settings, restore, etc.) Nothing helped. I went to an apple store and since the genius there was able to reproduce the issue they just gave me a brand new phone right there. Awesome right?! Wrong! After syncing the new phone with iTunes I am now having even worse issues. The brand new phone powers off in the middle of calls and other apps. And sometimes the phone will freeze completely. I tried everything in the book again. Finally I did a restore, and this time tried erasing all media content (music, photos, videos.) This seemed to do the trick as I didn't have a problem all night and pretty much all day. But just about 15 minutes ago the same problems started again! I'm losing my mind over this! Please help!

It was taken out of a white box at the store. On the side of the box there was a label that said "Replacement 8GB iPhone."
You probably got a bad refurbished unit. It happens. If they rebuilt a unit with an intermittent problem, and they don't catch it during testing, the next guys going to have a problem. I repaired a lot of RCA XL-100 solid state modular TV sets in the 70s. Every module we got from RCA was rebuilt. I would say we had problems with about 10% of them. They would work out of the box, but usually would act up after they got warm.

• Overheating or Power Off problem...still

I am curious if I'm the only one. I have a first gen iMac G5, and like most people who own this machine, I had problems with it suddenly turning off, which I was told at first was due to overheating. I had the motherboard replaced twice (once by the Apple staff, once by myself), and it worked fine for about a year, until, two weeks after the warranty ended, the problem came back and was much worse--to the point where it would turn off after being on for five minutes.
Well, I sent it in to be repaired, and they replaced the motherboard again. Now it's been a week since they fixed it, and the thing has started turning itself off again. I've read the Apple repair extension program announcement (http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/), and it mentions a "specific component failure", but no one will tell me what that component is. Is it really on the motherboard? If so, why is my computer still on the fritz? And, does anyone else have this problem still? Are there any potential software solutions? (I've used Yasu to run all the cron scripts and updated everything. I've also put the processor performance on reduced.)

K. Karr,
10.4.3 never caused those issues for me. What did happen more recently than previously was that I found myself with intermittent startup issues whereby the machine wouldn't start up on its own. A sleep shutdown issue may just be a software issue. These apparent system upgrade issues can be due to bad permissions (which can be repaired through Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility), or bad caches, preferences, or sometimes a bad directory. Occasionally they may be due to an incomplete update, and that latter issue can usually be resolved through using the combo update found on this page:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxupdate1043combo.html
The directory I would repair by first backing up your data, and following the advice on this article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Preferences and cache can be a little trickier, and if you find you try first permissions, then the combo update, and aren't able to solve this with a directory repair, come and tell us how the directory repair went.

• Power off problem

Hi, thought I'd post this as a seperate question to my last... My iPod Nano seems to have an issue when it comes to powering off. I find myself having to press and hold the play button 3 or 4 times before the unit turns off. The Nano is only a few days old and it seems to be already suffering problems, is anyone else having this simular issue and if so how can I go about resolving this problem? (is there is a way at all) Thanks.

The Nanos have been having a lot of problems. I haven't had that problem in particular but in a few weeks your screen will probably crack and you won't be able to see anything on the screen. I suggest you trade in the Nano for something else.

• U430 power off while on battery

Hi,
I have had my Lenovo U430 touch for about a month now, and have noticed a problem with it. Sometimes when I leave my Lenovo u430 touch alone (with full battery), and sometimes it will just power off without me doing anything. It even happens occasionally when I dont use it for a few minutes while im working in front of it.
It is definitely a power-off problem for me, rather than hibernate/sleep as my programs are no longer running when I turn it back on.
Hasnt caused any lasting damage as yet but am worried it could happen while im working on something important.
Happy to give more info if needed (will need instructions on how to get it though - im not that computer-savvy).
Thanks for any help.

Hi Olaf9500,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing an issue with system turn off when the system is in idle in your U430 laptop.
As you have mentioned for the drivers please check the below link for the drivers.
Click here for the energy management drivers if the operating system is windows 8(both 64bit and 32 bit).
Click here for the energy management drivers if the operating system is windows 7(both 64bit and 32 bit).
If you are using windows 7 then go to start search type power option, under on battery there is option for turn off the display, select never option and check for the issue.
Also there is option for the sleep under the power option select never option and check for the issue.
Hope this helps! Do post us back for further queries.

• Anyone own a MackBook WITHOUT the random turn off problem ???

I'm very disappointed that after a few weeks my Mackbook exhibit the power off problem that MANY of you have encountered.
It's so odd to me that nobody at Apple seem to acknowledge there's a problem.
Anyways, my dealer is nice enough to take it back or give me e new one...but after reading through 600 odd posts, it's seems that even a logic board swap won't even garanteed a working machine....so, anyone out there own a WORKING Mackbook ???

Me!!! No problems at all(knocking wood!).
After two weeks with mackbook, it stopped working-completely dead. The local retailer replaced logic board, and for 3 weeks now, everything is normal.
For the past week, i am pushing the machine to its limits by being a member of @Seti.....Macbook is searching for aliens(!!), 24 hours, every day for the past week, and no problems so far.

• Unable to Connect to WiFi after iPhone power off; WiFi & internet are working with MBP; common problem, no solutions?

Here's my setup: Internet <> Comcast/xFinity supplied cable modem <> new Apple Time Capsule <> iPhone 4 & MacBook Pro (see below for hardware details)
Internet on my iPhone 4 has been acting slow since yesterday evening. My MacBook Pro was running fine, but just to be sure I checked the Comcast website to see that I have only used 50GB of my allotted 250 GB of data for the month, so it's not that.
I decided it must be a problem with just my iPhone, so I opened up the multitasking bar and quit everything in there manually, and then I held the on/off button, and slid the slider to power off. When I started back up, I could not connect to the same WiFi I had just been using. I tried to reconnect and nothing. I tried to forget the network and try again, nothing. I tried to reset all network settings, nothing.
I have tried all the steps listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398 "iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections"
Toggled WiFi off and back on
Made sure I am in range of the router (it's about 8 feet away and my iPhone reports full signal from the network)
Made sure all the hardware is connected and on
Checked other devices (I'm successfully connected with my MacBook Pro right now)
Checked for router firmware upgrades (I have a new Time Capsule from Apple with the current 7.5.2 firmware which I've been using for a month)
Restarted my device (again)
Checked that the network is available (it does show on my iPhone)
Restarted my Time Capsule
Checked my router configuration as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3727 "Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network" which involves simply checking to see that WMM is turned on, also stating that WMM cannot be enabled or disabled for Apple's AirPort products.
Reset my network settings (again)
I have searched and searched for fixes to this problem, and I have additionally tried:
Enabling/disabling Airplane Mode
Disabling any network password protection/encryption (no luck), re-enabling it (no luck)
Changing the network password
Checking for hardware addresses present in iOS Settings > General > About (they are present and not zero'ed out)
Switching Bluetooth off (nothing) and back on (nothing)
....and probably a few other things I can't think of right now
I have yet to try:
The "Freezer Trick" which apparently involves chilling the iPhone to get a temporary fix?
Restoring the iPhone (I would really rather not)
A different WiFi network (other than my own Time Capsule home network or guest network, both of which give the same Unable to Connect error)
So, after all of that, are there any more ideas? Is there a reliable solution to this issue? So far I've just seen a lot of "mess with the settings," "the freezer trick worked," and "blame it on the iOS 4 update."
Here are my hardware details:
iPhone 4; iOS 5; 32GB; AT&T; no cellular data plan (July 2011)
TimeCapsule6,113; Firmware 7.5.2; 2TB (September 2011)
MacBook Pro 3,1; Mac OS X (10.7.2); 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; Hi-Res Display; 4GB RAM; 500GB HD (August 2007)
...and the Time Capsule config:
http://cl.ly/BCUt

Ugh. Apparently "messing with it" is still the answer. I decided to try the LinkSys router I was using before I bought the Time Capsule, and my iPhone connected with no problem.
I went through the steps again, and after rebooting my Time Capsule this time, I can connect again. The troubling thing it that this started with a power-off of my iPhone. No changes or installations, just a reset. Am I going to have to reboot my Time Capsule (which has no power switch, just a cord I have to unplug) every time I reboot my iPhone?

Hi Fred,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

My iPod Touch is stuck. I can't get it to power off. All that comes up on the screen is the Apple Logo. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

You may need to hold the sleep/wake button and the home button until the apple logo appears. Or anther thing you can try is draining the battery until the battery is dead. That's what i tried and worked. You may need to do those things more than 2 times. OH anther thing is you can try connecting you ipod to your computer and see if it appears on itunes. If those don't work you can send it to apple. So that's what helped me I hope I answered your question.
