Officejet Pro 8500 a909n with laptops

I have a client with 2 Dell Windows 7 laptops, connected wirelessly to an Officejet Pro 8500 a909n at home.  Both laptops are carried between office and home locations.  They also access the office remotely from home via a VPN to a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server running Easy Print.  The 2 laptops are identical, and the same version of the HP Printer Software is installed on both.  But one of them keeps having a problem where the print queue on the laptop stops working.  Documents are hung in it, and its Port IP address is different each time this happens.
Someone before me set it all up, but I am ready to do a total redo!!!  What is the most reliable way to set this printer up?  Will a static wireless IP address fix it?  The printer itself has a fixed IP address, but that is always different from the wireless addresses showing up on the laptops.
It seems like the queue problem occurs after the laptop has been taken offsite and brought back home again.  But the other one works fine after going offsite.  The only difference between the laptops' offsite network is: the one with the problem has a USB-based docking station at work, and the one that works well has a Dell docking station that uses the laptop's native dock port on the bottom.
When I run the Windows 7 built-in Printer Troubleshooter, it does not find any problems besides documents stuck in the queue.  When I delete all the documents out of the queue, it does not find any problems, but it still does not print.  I have downloaded the HP Troubleshooter, but not used it yet.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I would suggest to try the static IP method first before doing an uninstall/reinstall. You might also want to try using the diagnostic utility I linked below.

  • Constant Printing Restart on a networked HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909N Series printer

    Hello,
I'm curious if anyone has run into this problem before.  I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909n Series printer that I have setup as a network printer.  This has been accomplished through a print server.
I installed the printer's drivers based upon the cd that came with the printer, in the box.
The problem is that whenever a user prints, say it's a simply one page document... the printer will repeatedly print that single page until it runs out of paper.  I have stopped/restarted the print spooler.  I've rebooted the printer and the print server.  I have deleted the drivers and readded them.  I've tried installing drivers from HP's website and then installing those.  I have attempted to delete the printer from the server and start from scratch.
When I monitor the print queue, I can see the service restart after each document prints.  I can't figure out how to get this to stop.
Does anyone have a suggestion; or has anyone run into this problem?  I'm not sure which forum to put this in.  I chose the Networks/Wireless forum, even though this is running on a wired network with wireless disabled.
    I certainly appreciate any asistance.
    -Craig

It ended up being an issue with the port.  I had used the same port as the last HP printer that I replaced.  This printer needs to run on a TCP/IP port, and not an HP port.
    Problem solved.
Oh, and it was wired, with wireless disabled.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909n

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909n that I have had for awhile.  Recently it starting printing in pink although my settings was for black ink only.  Then it stopped and started printing in black again.  Would like to know what caused this.
Also, wanted to know if in order to print in Black if the color cartridges have to have ink in them.  I read somewhere the carridges themselves have to be in place but it didn't say the color cartridges had to have ink in them.  I don't use color and don't want to buy new color cartridges if I don't have to.
Would welcome some help on these 2 items.  They may even be related to the problem.
    Thanks.
    This question was solved.

    Hello @JCooper615!
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
You had mentioned that the printer printed pink when you had black cartridge only selected.  I am not too sure exactly what caused that to happen but I can provide some suggestions that may prevent it from happening again.
Its possible the printhead in the printer needs to be cleaned.  To run a printhead cleaning on the printer just press the "setup" icon on the printer screen.  Once your in the setup menu press "tools" and then press "clean printhead".  The printer will run the printhead cleaning and print out a report.
Another thing I suggest is to remove the printheads and manually clean them.  Sometimes ink can mist up onto the copper contacts of the printhead.  this can cause a poor electrical contact and may result in poor print quality.  For instructions on how to manually clean the printhead click: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01609042
The printer takes 4 cartridges and 2 printheads.  The printheads are what actually put the ink on the page and they need to be replaced from time to time.  If the issue continues you may need to install a new printhead.
You also wanted to confirm if the printer needs color cartridges to print.  The printer requires all the ink to be installed in order to print.  If a color cartridge is empty then the printer will display a message that it is depleted.  The message will not go away until that new cartridge is installed and will prevent you from printing.  When printing in black the printer still uses a small amount of color.  This is to ensure the ink tubes do not clog and the printheads do not dry out from lack of usage.
Some printers take cartridges that have printheads built into them.  Some printers like the ENVY 5530 and Officejet 4630 do not require the color cartridge too be installed in order to print.  They can print in a single cartridge mode.  So if you run out of color you can just remove it and continue to print in black and white.
Thanks again for posting on the HP Forums!
    Enjoy your day!

  • How do I set up wireless printing of my Officejet Pro 8500 on a laptop with Windows 8?

How do I set up wireless printing from my all in one Officejet Pro 8500 printer to my laptop with Windows 8?

You can set up your printer for wireless pretty easily if you have the Full Feature Software installed on your computer for your printer.  The setup is done as part of the installation.
Read through below, then select how you wish to proceed.  There is a video to assist - see below!
                                                               Install Printer Driver / Software
If your printer stops working (and it’s not a hardware problem), it may be due to software or driver issues.  There are tools to help you diagnose the problem and help documents to guide you to success.
You might just desire extra features for your printer, or need extra tools to help with scheduled maintenance.
In many cases, you can (re)install the Full Feature Softwarefor your printer to enhance its capabilities.  The HP Solution Center is an integrated part of the FFS.  For e-print, you will want the e-print software.
If you have the CD that came with your printer, use that to install your Printer software  -- IF the CD is compatible with your current Operating System.  If you do not have the CD, or if the software on the CD is outdated, then you can use the online installation tools.
(Re)install the basic driver or HP Printer Full Feature Software or other software for your printer:
Drivers control hardware connected to the computer (wired or wireless)
Software controls the programs that interact with the User
Go to the top of the forum page to Support and Drivers
     Officejet Pro 8500 Series
Enter your Printer Model information, and then go to Software and Drivers...
Enter your Operating System in the Drop-down menu...  Click NEXT and Scroll down
Look for category Driver - Product Installation Software
Select the appropriate Basic Driver, e-print, or Full Feature Software, as appropriate
NOTE:  You may also wish to download the Print and Scan Doctor and / or other Tools from Category - Utilities
Save the *.exe installation package(s) on your computer
Pay attention to the name and the location of the file(s) when you save the file(s).  The file(s) will likely save to the "Downloads “folder.
You may remove your existing printer software with the following tool.  Fixit is of particular use when the existing printer software is being replaced due to severe problems with the printing program.
Fixit -- Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled
NOTE:  If you have a recent working version of the Full Feature Software on your computer, you may opt to skip removing the existing printer software in the above separate step.  During installation of your Full Feature Software, when the installer package detects the “old” printer software on your computer, the program will ask you to remove that old software:  The program will then invoke an internal printer software removal program that is written to remove printer software.  Once most of the old printer software is removed, you will be asked to Reboot your computer and log back in.  After you log in, the final bits of the old printer program(s) are deleted and the new software will be installed.  Depending on your system, the whole uninstall and install process might take as much as eight to twelve minutes.
Remember to Install the programs from Category Utilities first, if applicable, as these are smaller in size.
Install the downloaded Printer Software package last.
If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.
    NOTES:
If using: Download and install the driver software before connecting a USB cable.
After the initial installation is complete, be sure to check for and install any relevant updates  - check Category  - Update.  The Updates are important and can mean the difference between software that works as expected and software that does not work.
You may also wish to check for a Category named Firmware.  Installation of any package in this Catagory is personal choice and must be based on the contents in the package and whether or not your printer is working as expected.

  • Officejet pro 8500 a909n Unable to locate - The printer is not connected

Something, unknown to me, must have recently changed with my printer and or my iMac and MacBook Pro.  I was suddenly unable to print.  When I attempt to print I get this icon on the dock:
I then click on the icon and this is the window that is displayed:
I completed a #6 restart and restarted the computers.  I had no problem establishing a connection with the router, which is a Time Capsule.  On the OSX Printers and Scanners Page I initially had a green light, but after attempting to print the light changes to amber and states "in use Last Used".  If I turn off the wireless radio, I can connect using USB, but prefer to use wifi.  However, after I walk away from the computer for awhile and then come back to print I get the same message.
Is there something I can do to fix this.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909n -- SOFTWARE DRIVER UNAVAILABLE

Hello, I've tried to install the driver for the above printer however, the error message comes back that the driver is not available. Can you please send me a link or advise how to rectify this issue. Thank you Lisa Majewski [email protected]

You guys really need to relax. A stable version of Windows 7 has not been released yet, nor has the Release To Manufacturers(RTM) version of Windows 7. I don't think any manufacturer will write software and drivers based on beta and test versions of OS's. Though I'm sure they're developing the drivers and software as we speak, I don't think it'll be released to the public until the final version of Windows 7 is OFFICIALLY released. So please, don't starting hating on HP just yet.

Hello there mayberrysheri, welcome to the forums
I noticed your posts about the ink cartridge or printhead issues you are experiencing with your Officejet 8500 model. My best suggestion to you, would be to have you try all of the steps in the guide below for this issue.
    I hope this helps!

  • Installing OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless on Windows 7 laptop with no network

Just purchased the OJPro 8500 Wireless and am trying to install on a new laptop with Windows 7 installed. First the CD that came with the printer didn't like Windows 7, so I downloaded the latest drivers from HP and things started happening... but no cigar.
I'm trying to connect the printer to a laptop using wireless<-->printer, there is no wireless network involved. The equipment is as follows:
    - 3-IN-ONE HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 wireless
    - Laptop MSI CX600 series with wireless/bluetooth
I would really appreciate any info on how to accomplish this.
    Thanks.

1st, thx for clue about ad hoc (wireless) NETWORK (on pg. 10 & 11) in hp OFFICEJET "Wireless Getting Started Guide".
Windows 7 HELP & HP Solution Center were both pretty useless.
    (Specifically)
Type "ad hoc" in Search Programs & Files (under START icon).
Results will be; "Set up an ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network". (Click on this)
Results will be; Dialog box to give name to network & set security, then SAVE.
NOTE: My Officejet Pro 8500n recognized "Security Type" = "No Authentication (Open)" & "Encryption Type" = "None"
    (Go to)
Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Connect to a network
Results will be; (in Dialog box for "Open Network and Sharing Center") a listing of your ad hoc network name & message (in bold) "Waiting for users"
Finally, on Officejet Pro touch screen, Select "Setup Menu", "Network", "Wireless Setup Wizard",  [Name] (given to ad hoc Network in Windows 7), & OK.
(Opps, 1 more thing) Also, follow instructions on pg. 10, to "Change from a USB connection".

  • Hp officejet pro 8500 wireless a909g scan with Windows 7

I have been using HP officejet pro 8500 a909g wireless with windows xp with no problems scanning.  I got a laptop with windows 7 64 bit and cannot scan to the computer from the solution center software on the computer or from the display on the unit like I used to be able to do.  When I try to scan, it says that it is scanning and then quits after a short time.  Nothing happens with the scanner.  The Solution Center also sees the document is loaded.  I have tried the scanning software program to see if something is wrong but it says all is fine.  What do I need to do?

There is a way to launch the scan application directly.
Go to c:\program files\hp\digital imaging\bin and double click on hpiscnapp.exe
See if you are able to complete a scan this way
    If that doesn't work,
    Rename the twain folder:
Navigate to C:\Windows and double click on it
Scroll down to the twain_32 folder, and rename the folder twain_32 old .
Then, Delete the whole Digital Imaging folder in the program files above and then do an install/reinstall which will repopulate the folder. NOTE: If you have multiple HP imaging devices (other printers, scanner, or cameras) Do not delete the Digital Imaging folder or you will need to reinstall those items.

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless printer conneted via WiFi to my LYNKSYS WRT54GS wireless router.  I do not have a USB cable or ethernet cable plugged to the printer.  I am able to use the 'scan to email button' and the 'scan to network folder' button on the front of the printer and I can pint from the PC to the printer with no problems.
I installed the HP printer software from the CD, choosing network/wireless connection, without having to install any USB cables from the PC to the printer in the process.  many posts in the forum mention having to connect USB cables in the wireless installation process.
Can I install the software in the same fashion on the other two laptops? Or, do I need to do something differently?

The USB cable is used on those printers which do not have display or front panel wireless setup is not possible. We configure the wireless settings during install and save those settings in printer's memory by transferring through USB cable. Therefore the USB is plugged in during wireless installation temporarily. In your case I don't think plugging in USB cable is necessary as the printer is already on network and had IP address. Connect the laptops on wireless network and proceed with regular install, the printer should be detected automatically.
