Officejet Pro 8600 Plus Duplexing Problem

When I print a document that is one sided the printer stops and lets the ink dry and pulls it back in as if it were a double sided document. Is this normal for this printer. This is my first HP printer and it didn't do this on other printers that I had. The other printers sensed weather it was a single or double sided document and printed according to the document. Any help please.

Hello soundfx411,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the paper being drawn back into the printer as if it was double sided print job.
This could be cause by a few different reasons.  First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Just so you know, HP products already have built in surge protector and if you have it connected to a power bar/strip, the unit will not get all the power it needs to function properly and this could cause other issues that you may not see on the surface such as Ink system failures or skewed or crooked printing or ever scan/copy issues.
So I can better assist you, please respond with which Operating System you are running.
Which Windows Operating System am I running?
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
Write me back when you have time and I will be happy to explore other options if needed.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus duplex printing not working

I am running Mac OSX leopard (10.5.8) and just bought the officejet pro 8600.  Everything seems to work great except I can't figure out how to print on two sides.  The option isn't allowed in page setup
I have checked the settings on the printer and can't see anything to indicate how to switch on the option for double-sided printing.
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi,
Please follow the steps below to configure the driver for automatic duplex printing:
    1. Verify the duplex-printing accessory has been installed properly. To verify this open the System Preferences and go to Print & Fax. Open the print queue of your printer. Click on Printer Setup and from the tab menu choose Driver. Verify the box next to HP Two-sided Printing Accessory (Duplexer) is checked.
    2. On the File menu, select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Click the blue triangle next to the printer name to see all available settings.
    3. In the expanded Print window you will find next to Copies the checkbox for Two-Sided. Check the box.
NOTE: If the checkbox does not appear within the specific application print dialog, skip this step.
    4. To select the binding type click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.
    5. Select Layout from the drop-down menu.
    6. Set the Two-Sided option as Long-Edge binding (Portrait), or Long-Edge binding (landscape).
You may save the settings for future use by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset...
Please let me know of any problem,
    Shlomi

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus ADF Problems

I had the same problem and tried EVERYTHING... finally I pressed the lid down while sending the fax and it went through.  I put a couple cans of motor oil on the lid for pressure and it works.  That was a month ago.  It has been sending faxes fine with the oil cans on it.  Nothing else worked.

  • Officejet pro 8600 plus e-all-in-one color managment problem.

please help, I'm a photographer and I own officejet pro 8600 plus e-all-in-one printer. I want to print my photos using this printer, but it never print them right, so I bought Colormunki photo to calibrate my monitor and my printer and match them together. The problem is I can't control the printer color management  !!! I want to disable it, so I can use the printer profile in Photoshop or other applications to get the right prints. my prints are darker when I set the color management to be handled by the application, or I make the printer handle it but I will end up with wrong colors. I really really need to change the profile of the printer. how ?????? otherwise I really have no use of it in my work.

    Jassim,
Kudos to you for figuring out how to better control the outcome for what you require.
I have learned something new today.  Smiling!
Did you create the new profile manually or add it in from a previously saved setting?  Filename / filetype?
It has been a while since I used Photoshop.  I am thinking I may take another look at my old favorite.

  • Problems with my printer HP Officejet pro 8600 Plus + Yosemite

Hi got problems with my printer HP Officejet pro 8600 Plus till I installed Yosemite it is not recognized so what can I do now.. No new drivers found by HP

    Thanks for this AnnRT!
I've spent the best part of a day trying to figure this out. Everything was fine and then one day nothing worked! I have narrowed the issue down to Bonjour via WiFi as everything worked fine via USB, and via IP over WiFi.
I've now set a static IP for the printer and things seem to be working fine again
    Thanks!

  • Hp Officejet Pro 8600 Plus network printing problems

I hard wired my Hp Officejet Pro 8600 plus with an ethernet cable to my router to enable other computers on my network to print to my printer.  Several problems have resulted because of this:
    1. I cannot find my printer in the Device Manager: it shows as an "unknown device"
    2. Sometimes pdf files will print and sometimes they will not. Word and Excel files sometimes print, and sometimes don't.
    3. Sometimes documents will spool, but then I get the following message: "Unable to communicate with printer." Then it asks me to make sure all cables are connected and power is on, which is the case.
I have tried all kinds of troubleshooting with information found in Hp forum and on Hp website. Finally, using the HP Print and Scan doctor, I deleted and reinstalled the printer and updated the Full software and drivers. Then I got a message saying "the printer is on your network, but the network software is unable to find it using the typical network discovery method. You can install the printer and operate it normally over the network using the IP address of your printer." I inserted the IP address and it took me through various steps to final installation.  I typed a short message into a new document on Microsoft Word and it printed, Then I tried to print some information from the HP website, but this did not print; it didn't even spool.
My router is not detecting the printer on the network either, the light on the port bearing the network cable connected directly to the printer has never been shown to be on, like the other lights. I have been struggling with this for the last several months.
I have an Hp computer, running on Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit). I prefer to use my printer over a network ethernet cable instead of wireless.  Please help!

I believe this is the cause of your problem.  First, try another known working port in the router.  Next, change the Ethernet cable with a known good cable.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus "unspecified printer problem"

I just set up my HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One.  The set-up seemed to go okay, but when I go to the "devices" tab for "HP Connected" it has a yellow yield sign and says that I have a problem with my printer.  When I click on the yield sign symbol, the box says that "An unspecified problem was reported. Please check your printer."   When I check the printer pannel, there are no problems reported.  The machine seems to print okay, but I'd like to clear up this error that is shown.  Any ideas?
Also, I've already done the restart and sign-off/sign-in stuff, so we can move on to second-order trouble shooting.  Thanks.

    HELP!
I am having exactly the same problem. I am simply swapping out an existing Deskjet 3512 that worked perfectly at all levels, so i KNOW i dont have router/port/network issues. eprint was and is flawless. I just plugged it back in to check and it still works just fine with eprint.
Using my new Pro8600, I send emails to my eprint address and they seem to go...and then nothing. they just don't print.
I get the"Officejet Pro 8600 Plus "unspecified printer problem"" message but my front panel reports no issues.
I'm a step away from taking this back and buying an Epson.
My experience with their support has bee stellar at a commercial printer level.
This seems to be a very common problem and I just dont have hours to monkey around with something that should work out of the box.
    any help will be appreciated.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus will not print but is connected and says that the print job is 100% Complete

    Hi All,
I'm printing from a MacBook Pro using OSX Lion. It says that Officejet Pro 8600 Plus is connected and that the print jop is
100% complete except that nothing comes out of the printer. I've done all of the test prints and they've printed just fine.
I tired all of the troubleshooting steps listed on the support guide and still nothing. HELP!

Not a reply but another plea for help.
There seem to be so many people with wireless problems that a) it seems silly to start a new thread and b) which one to enter my own plea.
-Printer bought about 2~3 weeks into Sept 2012
-Installed onto Macbook Pro running Lion (full updated at that time)
-Both wireless scanning from printer to computer and initiated from computer worked fine.
-Printer, with full choice of duplex, layout etc, worked fine. (Even left 5star feedback somewhere!)
-Set up eprint. That OK, too. Fine from iPad2 and SE Arc S printing photos.
-Somewhere along the line it stopped communicating with my MBP
-Out of interest, since there seemed to be no problems with an Acer laptop running Vista, I booted the MBP from an external drive on which I'd done a backup of my 10.6 system iMac (>300Km away: can't try that). Installed HP software from disc. Seemed fully functional. Odd. Very odd.
-Restarting with Lion on MBP, tried again. Looks as if it might work, but loses connectivity. Tried manual address on printer.
-Booting from 10.6 system again, reinstalled Lion on MBP (wondering if conflict between HP and Apple updates)
    -Reinstalled HP software from disc.
    Still didn't work.
-Brought Lion up to date. Downloaded most recent dmg file from HP. Looked for updates. Have applied firmware update to printer
8600 doesn't list my MBP as available computer to scan to
[But all the test pages done whilst in HP Utility, and others, get sent through]
Am getting rather fed-up with all this; never, ever before have I had so much printer problem.
There seem to be a number of Lion users out there with the same problem. So far -but very infrequently tried- other machines/systems seem OK, therefore I am coming to the conclusion that it is an Apple<> HP conflict. If not sorted soon the printer will be returned as it is not fit for purpose. I'll revert to using my seldom problematic, non duplex A3 Brother.
    Hrumph
Please help, someone! Either with a pointer to something I've not yet tried or by analysis and rapid availablity of updated software.
    Thanks,
    Mike W

  • Officejet Pro 8600 plus: trouble with double sided printing

I have just installed Officejet Pro 8600 plus. My iMac is running on OS X 10.9.2
I want to print a double sided brochure. And I have succeeded. However, the printing on one side of the paper is upside down.
    To achieve this:
    Print <Copies & Pages <Layout - turn on two-sided - long edge binding
    Layout direction is greyed out
How can I fix this please

    Hello xxzz,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that the flip on long edge option is greyed out for you when you try to print double sided. I will try to help you with this.
Usually if an option is greyed out, it indicates that the software wasn't installed completely or correctly. That or the printer isn't capable of the task. Knowing that this printer is able to duplex, it could be a problem with the software/drivers.
    Try the following.
    Uninstall the software.
    Reset the print system.
    Verify/Repair disk permissions
Re-install the software - software download
Test to see if you're now able to choose the options.
Let me know how things go, thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus Scanner Software

    Hi,
I'm a big fan of HP products.  My last several printers, scanners and computers have all been HP.
I recently purchased the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus to replace an older machine with similar capabilities (ADF, duplex printing, etc).  The previous machine was also an HP printer.
The problem that I'm having is that the software seems to  have been downgraded.  The software on my previous machine had the ability to automatically parse pictures laid on the flatbed scanner into individual JPGs.  With the software on this machine, it seems that I need to manually crop each image.  The options for optimizing each image, by removing scratches, automatically adjusting color, sharpening, etc. are all gone.
I really miss these features.  I did find that I had been using a 'Basic' version of the software.  I installed the full version and found it slightly different, but it still lacks the automatic image selection and image tweaks that I made such heavy use of.
Is there any way to get these options back?
    Thank you,
    --MrXmas

    NeonSkeleton,
That is unfortunate.  It's a **bleep** nice machine except that the software is really a step backwards.
Is there any way to use the older software from another HP device?  The standard microsoft scanner drivers don't do anything towards my need.  The network connection seems to be a stumbling block for most of what's out there.  I'd be happy to hard-wire via USB if that could get me the software upgrade (the speed over USB is a considerable improvement as well).
If it isn't possible to use another HP driver, do you have any recommendations for 3rd party drivers?
    Thanks for your help,
    Jim

  • Configuring "Scan To E-mail" on HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus N911g

This is the same issue reported by several other users in this forum to which no solution has been provided.
I have been unsuccessful in setting up the scan to e-mail option for a HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus N911g purchased on August 12th 2012 and using the firmware CLP1CN1150CR.
I am trying to do this through the Embedded Web Server interface to the printer from an iMac running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and HP Utility 5.8.0.  More specifically the page under "Scan -> Scan to E-mail -> Outgoing E-mail Profiles".
I have tried 2 different SMTP outgoing servers, each of which works well to send e-mail from the computer: Apple iCloud e-mail service (formerly known as Mobile Me, formerly known as .Mac) and AT&T Net e-mail service.  I verified that the server name, port number and authentication login/password values were all correct.
When scan to e-mail is used from the printer, I get an error message:  Cannot connect to server.  Check server name and address.
When tested from the computer during the setup of an outgoing e-mail profile, I get an error message:  The device could not send the test e-mail message. (EmailAccounts-timeout).
When I try to configure the page under "Settings -> E-mail Alerts -> E-mail Server" and use exactly the same values as the ones in the outgoing e-mail profile above, the Save and Test option fails with an error message:  The device could not send the test e-mail message.
Interestingly enough, I am able to use the computer's e-mail client with the option Scan To Computer -> E-mail as PDF or E-mail as JPEG.  With this option, the file is scanned and added as an attachment to a mail message from the Mail client under Mac OS X.  When I press the Send button, the e-mail is sent successfully through the same SMTP server.
All the error messages seem to indicate that the printer's e-mail client software is unable to establish a connection to the SMTP server.  However, it is not clear what configuration parameter is the one that could be causing the problem.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

After further research, I noticed that there are other possible default Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) port values:
Port 25 is the standard SMTP port number.
Port 465 is the port number for SMTP over SSL, Secure SMTP (SSMTP).
Port 587 is the dedicated port number for a Mail Submission Agent (MSA) that uses a variant of the SMTP, as specified in RFC 6409, which requires that clients are authorized and authenticated to use the mail submission service.
I had been using port  number 25 as this is the standard one.  However, all tests were failing.  Hence, I decided to try the tests with ports numbers 465 and 587.
Port number 465 failed with the same errors listed above.  However, the tests passed with port number 587.  After saving the successful configuration with port number 587, I tried the scan to e-mail option from the printer and it worked.
A mail submission agent (MSA) is a computer program or software agent that receives electronic mail messages from a mail user agent (MUA) and cooperates with a mail transfer agent (MTA) for delivery of the mail.
Historically in Internet mail, both MTA and MSA functions use port number 25.  However, many Internet Service Providers (ISPs)  and enterprise or institutional networks restrict the ability to connect to remote MTAs on port 25.
With a dedicated port 587, it is always possible for users to connect to their domain to submit new mail.  Availability of a MSA on port 587 enables nomadic users to continue to send mail via their preferred submission servers even from within others' networks.  Using a specific submission server is a requirement when sender policies or signing practices are enforced.
I know that many users may find the technical details boring or confusing, but I just wanted to include some background to those who actually care about this level of detail.  I also wanted to provide a possible solution to other users who are experiencing the same problem.
So, in a nutshell, if the Scan To E-mail option is not working for you using port number 25, then try one of the other SMTP port numbers listed above.  If none of them work, check your mail provider for other possible outgoing server port numbers.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus - Scan software doesn't have 8.5x11 letter size option

Just bought a new Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.
The included HP Scan software will only let me choose A4 or A5 paper sizes (as well as 6x4, 7x5, 8x6, 10x8).  No 8.5x11 option, which is what I want to use most often.  (this is from the dropdown options after clicking the "Scan..." button)
Is there something I'm missing?  I'm generally pretty good at figuring this stuff out, but I haven't even seen this issue mentioned on forums, so I'm confused.
Also, when using the Scan To Computer function directly from the printer, I get the same result - it will scan my 8.5x11 document and output an A4 size file.
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.  I have installed all software and firmware updates I could find.  I have my printer's region set to Canada, and bought the machine from a Staples in Canada.  Wondering why I can't use any North American size formats?

@Simple1234 - I have reinstalled the software from HP's website, and no change. (it's actually the same version that came on the installation CD - 12.23).
@Sethaniel - I have definitely tried every combination of settings in those drop down lists, so that's not it.
Ruling out OS issues, my girlfriend is running 10.8, and the HP software is doing the same thing on her computer.
Using the System Preferences scanning method, I can choose paper sizes if set to scan from document feeder.  If I change to flatbed, I have the option to manually type in the dimensions I want, but then I'm forced to manually drag the crop area to which 8.5x11 portion of the flatbed it will scan.  Again, there's no way to just have the flatbed scan a letter size document automatically when placing the page at the top corner of the flatbed, where it shows you to place the page for letter size.
This seems like the most basic function of a scanner!  I'm really perplexed by this.  I would imagine most people in north america would just want to place an 8.5x11 sheet of paper on the flatbed and have an easy way to scan the correct size with no added fuss.
Printing works fine, and I can choose letter size, and many adjustable settings, so I think this is just a problem with HP's scanning software.  I have tried all the usual basic steps, like restarting my computer & the printer, reinstalling software, running software update, looking through all the settings in the HP Scan software, any global settings I could change in System Preferences, tried using a different computer and OS X version, googling the issue, and posting on this forum.
    Any other ideas?

  • WiFi Wireless Setup Wizard produces Blue Screen of Death on Officejet Pro 8600 Plus

The wireless setup wizard on my Officejet Pro 8600 Plus is failing immediately after "scanning for networks". I get a blue screen of death with error message B8494B00, followed by "turn printer on and off" with flashing screen.
I bought the printer about one month ago and it has worked perfectly so far. My Apple Time Capsule failed yesterday, so I bought a new one (latest model) and had to set up the wireless network again. When I tried to do so on the printer, I got the error for the first time. Nothing else had changed. Other devices are working with no problems on the new network. The computer is an Apple iMac running OS Mountain Lion.
I have tried turning the printer on and off, disconnecting the power and reconnecting, then turning it on again, but no result. I have restored the wireless to factory settings, but no difference.
    Please help.

Right off I have to tell you I do not "speak Mac".
I assume the "Apple Time Capsule" is a name for a network router?  A syncing device?
    Unless I am mistaken:
You do not need the Wizard to set up the network -- it is pretty software for an HP PC; when it works, it can make things easier.  The setup Wizard is not necessary for the process.  I should think this is true for the Mac.
    =====================================================================================
If you cannot get someone from the Printing group to answer your specific concern,
you may have succes with the following:
The User Guide has pretty good detail on how to set up the networking necessary to get the printer connected to either a PC or Mac environment.  Assuming you can get the printer to "Reset network settings" (User Guide, page 222), then you can re-enter the information you require manually.  It is a bit tedious, but is may work better than fighting the Wizard.
    OfficeJet Pro 8600 User Guide
You may be able to circumvent sone or all of this by reinstalling the Full Feature Software for your printer -- that assumes you are first able to "reset network settings", at least, and get a printout test page to verify that the reset actually worked.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus - "Scan to Computer" issue on Mac OSX 10.8 or 10.9

    Hi...
I have started experiencing the notorious "scan to computer not working" issue on my 1-month OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus, after having used the feature a number of times flawlessly.
There are a lot of potential solutions mentioned in dozens of relevant posts for both Mac and Windows, e.g.:
"Failed to open a session on the device"...
Scan to computer does not work...
Problem scanning to computer with an 8600 wireless
Unable to enable print to computer...
Enable Scan to Computer - Communication Error
Officejet Pro 8600 Utility does not show my Mac computer in scan settings
A 'Connection Error' or 'No Computer Detected' Error Message Displays during Scanning
HP Wireless All-in-One Printers - Communication Error between the Scanner and Your Computer...
    Etc.
However, in my case, no solution works, after several frustrating hours of trying to fix the issue, in Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), or after upgrading to Maverics (10.9).
The behavior of the device points to a software issue, since:
The printer is visible on the network
The print function has been working fine
    The HP Scan function works
The generic Scan function from System Preferences works (although in earlier times it did not, or it stopped working soon after invoking it)
The "Scan to Computer" option does not appear in the HP Utility screen (although occasionally, after random sequences of unistalling and installing the software, it reappears)
The HP Installer crashes before completing the installation (this is a latest symptom, apparently happening before unvoking the HP Setup Assistant, which still works fine)
As already mentioned, I have tried all possible solutions, including software and firmware updates, Apple drivers, HP drivers (full featured software), clean (un)installations, followed by computer and printer restarts. Nothing seems to work.
The "Scan to Computer" feature of the 8600 always works on my Windows 7 laptop, after initial configuration.
The next step will be returning the device for a refund, but before resorting to that, I am giving it a last chance, in (the unlikely) case there is something new I have not tried yet.
    Thanks,
